GUYS FROM EXPERIENCE! I had to pay $3k because of that second gear grind. It broke my synchorings and needed a whole new transmission. I was still under warranty but they were saying warranty only covers defects. It was a $6k bill for everything and after 4 months of talking to Honda they were able to cover half. So my fellow fk8 brothers, please do this to your cars❤️ I got a video of my fk8 on my channel if you want to check it out.
Just received the information I will be paying 4K to replace a worn shift sleeve and 2nd gear worn and countershaft. I purchased the car in April and was getting the second gear grind and occasional lockout(though once the first time happened, I never ripped the car from a dig) until one day, I left the store around the corner and when I tried to shift to 2nd I was completely locked out of the left side of the shift gate. Unfortunately for me a friend recommended I put Ac Delco Syncromesh fluid in the vehicle and I did, about a month ago. Honda said I voided my drivetrain warranty by putting any other fluid than Honda brand in it, though they drain the transmission there was no debris in it… fuck the drivetrain warranty they can get out of it and every way even saying “hard shifts” because you know you don’t wanna shift A track/race set up vehicle… 🤦🏻♂️
I removed it when I still had a slave cylinder but honestly setting the clutch engagement point while removing the play in the master cylinder rod at the clutch pedal to fully disengage the clutch while shifting will stop the 1-2nd gear grind. As a tip removing the plastic delay valve use a pic to pierce it in order to get pull it out of the slave cylinder. You will destroy it when doing this but you’re not going to be using it anymore after.
@@baranUtube To an extent, yes. But for ENGAGEMENT of the clutch, you should remove the clutch delay valve anyways. Properly bleeding the clutch is also very important. Some people don’t bleed their clutch slave cylinder from the factory for a long time, and I believe that causes issues too. As the spring inside of the clutch slave cylinder breaks in from brand new, it also needs to be re-bled, basically the pedal won’t sit exactly right anymore and has shifted.
I’ve only had this to me once or twice in 1 year of owning my 21 BB TR. I don’t really push my car from a stop. Which was the only time it ever happened to me never while I’m driving. (13k miles only driven weekends)
@@anthonypilpa7586 oooooooooooo okay okay makes sense but that’s not true they still have the issue. This past Sunday I floored it from from 10 mph, went to second and it grinned.
THIS WILL INSTANTLY VOID YOUR WARRANTY. IF YOU HAVE A 20-21 under 60k miles I wouldn’t do this yet. Honda just got me for 4K and I don’t have the delay valve delete I put AC Delco synchromesh fluid in the Trans, because many many people do and a friend recommended it and because it’s not a Honda brand fluid, they blamed all the way on me even though I bought the car just five months ago. Shift sleeve worn second gear, worn and counter shaft worn. Though they drained the transmission and said no debris was found, they blamed the fluid. Complete bullshit. Just a heads up you all!
Short block is ready to be put together! Gonna head up this week to film it but still waiting on the cylinder head at the machine shop. So full engine build will probably be hopefully done middle next month is the goal.
That’s true, but something about the engagement to the clutch changes. Fluid pressure changes inside a bit I’m assuming, from the lack of the restricting delay valve. It will disengage (pedal down) quickly, but it doesn’t “rev match” quite the same without the delay valve. You can notice it when timing shifts differently, with and without the CDV in. What you’re saying isn’t wrong, but in my experience, after the CDV delete and not adjusting literally anything else, grinds, lockouts, etc. tended to be resolved a bit somehow. Perhaps it might just be in our minds, and the hydraulics might have just been needed to be properly bled? That’s my other assumption, besides obviously adjusting the clutch pedal/clutch master cylinder.
2020 and newer doesn’t get the 2nd gear grind. They fixed the issue don’t waste your time or money if newer tha 2020. I’ve never had this happen to me same with all my other buddy’s
False. I own a 2021 and I've gotten the 1st to 2nd gear grinds. About 6 times in a year of ownership. You can't hard accelerate or it will happen 100% of the time. If you do 85% throttle max in first and delay your shift slightly then you can avoid it. I know of others that, own 2020+ and either did the clutch valve delay or clutch pedal adjustments to solve the issue. Some have also used Amsoil synchromesh in conjunction with doing the other methods.

I did mine, and YESSSS finally. Smiles per shifts
Clutch pedal adjustment fixed me and my buddies fk8's. Both had the same issue.
Thats all that took? is the adjustment of the clutch pedal?

Ok brother. We need to do this on my car. You guys are having way too much fun with this💯
“Pretty much” count: 22. Only jokes. Really enjoy your videos, super helpful. Keep it up.

So what I found out is that almost every ctr past 2020 no longer has the issue

Delay valve is there to protect the transmission from shock, especially bell inexperienced drivers.
you guys are the best🔥🔥🔥
idk if i missed it but what are you replacing that piece inside the cylinder with? is it a more solid piece? none plastic? great vid!
I just got a used 2018 fk8. I have had it slip out of second gear a few times. What exactly is the cause for that? What can I or should I do?
No chance I’m doing this shit, but if I want to get this done at a shop what should say
I need to do this for the Si, sometimes it doesn’t do the 2nd gear bs but when it does I notice it’s during spirited driving turns. It’s weird
did you do it buddy
Great video, on my 2021 BB I haven’t had that issue 🙏🏼
Link doesn’t work. Probably got my type R late lol

Off topic but where did you get your mirrors? The carbon ones
I just want to lube the slave cylinder. So the best way to access is to remove the Intake box?
definitely doing this to my FL5 soon!
Updates on your motor?

Hey how will I purchase this from you guys
Why are you sitting so close to the steering wheel?
Yaaa boii mad short
is this only a thing on the fk8's? i have a 2017 si and was wondering if i should do this.
Delay valve only damps clutch engagement, not disengagement

Pretty much
Is this available
The link provided can’t open
🔥🔥🔥
So honda dealer does not have this part ?
Pretty much !
Going to need you to do mine. Lol
What’s the brake fluid got to do with the slave cylinder?
Wdym?
It’s the same fluid to operate the hydraulics of the brakes AND clutch operation
🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💪🏾

lol drive faster. 2021 2nd grind at 150 miles changed the whole system the first 7 days shifts fine now
