She's got some bloody acting chops on here, she's SO compelling in this role. I haven't enjoyed a series quite so much in so long. The acting all around is wonderful and the storylines are brilliant
I am proud to say - my kid does! He's exactly the same age as Ryan and is very like him in a lot of ways. I was brought into school many, many times and I literally have fought for my boy to be fairly treated and understood from the day he was born and I will never stop. He has ADHD and autism, and I am by no means saying he's an angel - far from it but he was used as the fall guy a lot throughout his school career. Catherine and I are extremely alike and I have handed teachers/authority figures their a$$ on many an occasion! I am not a police officer - I am in health care but I feel like some days I have missed my calling lol :) Where my boy is concerned - it's a case of never say die. It was an absolute pleasure to watch every episode of this drama, as I could relate to it in so many ways. And the best part is there are no mannerisms. Even great actors like Meryl Streep or Jack Nicholson sometimes have distinctive mannerisms that they depict in nearly all their acting roles but Sarah doesn't.
I love the little detail showing how good of a detective Catherine is and used to be. After Hepworth denies chasing Ryan and Chesko in his car, Catherine asks him "did you drive on the curb" which he promptly says "no" instead of saying I didn't chase them, thus confirming to Catherine that he did chase them. People can't help but contradict people, detectives know this and use it during questioning. The writing of this series is so good, I'll miss it.
Sarah Lancashire is absolutely tremendous in any role in which she is cast but this role is absolutely brilliant and she nails it every time. The woman is an absolute genius!
Sarah Lancashire as always, is extraordinary. What an exciting, magnetic actor she is - hard to believe it's the same woman who played the drippy barmaid in 'Coronation Street'! 'Happy Valley' is above all a hit because of its superb scripts and plotting. ALL TV drama (and comedy), ultimately stands or falls on the writing, and Sally Wainwright is a genius. But casting Lancashire in the lead role elevated this show to something very special indeed. As Wainwright herself said, 'Happy Valley' is so much more than just another 'police procedural'. It's a beautifully observed, authentic, in-depth story of one woman's trials and triumphs, and the human relationships depicted are utterly compelling.
The storyline fell apart in the final episode though. Having spent so much time and effort invested in the story of the games teacher, his wife with drug issues along with the Asian Pharmacist, it was never properly concluded with just a few words at the end! It's as if they ran out of time to finish it properly, it made this parallel story completely pointless. Just my two-pence worth, thought it let the series down by the lack of a proper conclusion for what is supposed to be the very last series.
This show is the greatest show I've ever seen. This was just about the best scene among many great scenes in the enthralling 3rd and final series. Late coming to Happy Valley and never watched the first two seasons but will definitely go back and catch up with them. Totally brilliant drama as was Sarah Lancashire.
One of my favourite scenes in all of season 3, thought the bit where Ryan is waiting outside the office for Catherine and you can hear Hepworth talking to the principal assuming that because his dad is out of the picture and his granny works shifts, he'd be an easy target. Until he find out who granny is.. Also the fact the Hepworth didn't know anything about Ryan's background shows that the school really kept that on a need to know basis.
When it comes to a child's confidentiality its on a strictly needs to know basis. Ryan's head of year may beaware of the family situation but he can't reveal the full extent to the rest of the staff, they would be aware for instance that there is a safeguarding risk to Ryan involving his father but they wouldn't know the details that Catherine revealed to Ryan's headteacher in series 1 about TLR raping Becky and Ryan being a result of that, the headteacher is bound by confidentiality she can only reveal it if Ryan is at risk and even then only to those who need to know.

Some of these same teachers- with kids who travelled to school and mixed with kids of front line medics and care workers (regularly exposed to worst 9f Covid in its most terrifying form) were ostensibly so petrified of Covid when it was weaker and everyone had had the jab! ie during the aftermath year they refused to teach if a child (jabbed and had previously had the bug with zero fever etc) had sat even 4 desks away from a kid who tested positive for Covid! They can get an extra £30/hr tutoring or doing 'holiday camps' during 5 out of their 11 week holiday p/a (still 6 wks clear) and/or after their 7 hr day!

I have no idea what this show is as it just came into my feed but looked interesting. Gotta say I just love the officers performance. Makes me want to watch the show!
Sarah said when she was prepping for this character, she got on average, probably about five hours sleep per night to try to perfect the accent of that area. She also said that she needed to take a break from that character because it was so intense and having watched it several times I can certainly understand that she’s a brilliant actress.
I binged watched first two seasons having seen a number of these season 3 clips on RUclips for some reason. I think the lead actress brilliant, even the villain played it well. The lead actress and the writing really shows the gosh awful situations police have to deal with and that they deal with it by risking their physical and mental and emotional well being. And the wit brilliant. Oh my goodness. And the compassion. When they saw the red vehicle knowing the danger and then seeing the body and the OD and focusing on that alone the scene with her trying to save the women in her arms and hearing the confession. Gosh. How does a human being process all that. The instinct to save the woman. I mean she put 1+1+1 and got 3.
Sad Happy Valley ended with Just 3 series ,Sarah Lancashire was brilliant as Sergeant Catherine Cawood , Beautiful locations also ,And James Norton was brilliant as the ruthless Tommy Lee Royce . Brilliant Drama .
I had not seen any happy valley. Hearing all fuss being made thought I'd watch it. Yes some of it slightly far fetched and maybe too many coincidences but it is brilliant and Sarah Lancashire as always is fantastic and thank you BBC for having the guts to not release all the episodes to iplayer all at once bring back event TV
I agree that there are a few coincidences and it would appear that Catherine is involved in rather a lot of incidents. Living in a rural area, you could be involved in more than the average Police Officer. However, speaking as an ex-Police Officer, it is one of the most realistic Police dramas on tv. I tend to agree about what others have said about the title, as it put me off watching the series 1 & 2. When I began to idly watch series 3 with my wife, I realised what a good program it was and immediately watched 1 & 2.
Instead of streaming and binge watching, It was a return to how good dramas were televised 'back in the day' when they were the topic of the conversation in the workplace the next day, some 'old' things are good.
@@paulbradford8240 I did exactly the same and became hooked right from the start of the first Series. One thing I couldn't help noticing was how the sound quality of series 1 was so much better than series 2 and 3. it's a really noticeable change from a very clear sound to a more modern mumbled variable sound that needs subtitles to follow the storyline properly. According to The Guardian, 40% of TV dramas are now watched with sub-titles to help comprehend the mumbled sound that they are now recorded with.
I also found it a little too far fetched at times, things always resolve themselves a little too neatly like the chemist story-line. Season 3 came across as rushed and not as well written, it felt like they were setting up and repeating the same storyline from season 1 with Tommy.
I just binged watch season 1 and 2 after seeing some of these RUclips clips of season 3. I can not imagine what you mean by far fetched or coincidental. Most realistic police drama I ever watched. Anyone is capable of anything. Crime connects with other crimes.
This title is weird and wrong. That said, this scene is really good indeed and the two moments with the lighter made me laugh every time. This actress is a powerhouse!
I disagree. She exposed the head teacher for calling a meeting without checking the facts. The gym teacher was shown as someone who makes unsubstantiated allegations and also acts on spite and possible chases pupils in his car.
@@wadefite The title makes it sound like all teachers are awful. An already overworked and underpaid profession. We don't need to insult them on top of everything else.
Thank you for highlighting that, Taissa! As a rule most teachers are dedicated and work extremely hard (and yes, that also happens during the 'holidays' that people are so keen to cite). If teaching was such an easy and well-paid profession they would be inundated with applications whereas the reality is that they are now leaving in droves and it's getting harder to recruit replacements. They no longer just teach, they also are involved with social problems, health issues and special needs amongst their pupils and often spend their own money bringing resources into their classrooms. They also have some pupils in for breakfast and tea, thereby offering a child-minding service so that parents can get the chance to work and earn a living. Yet, on the odd occasion where a teacher is accused of behaving badly (and where the full story is rarely seen) this seems to be eagerly seized upon as an excuse to attack the whole profession. Even in dramatisations such as this one, it seems to be the case. I wonder what the motive was for that title and whether the person who chose it also knows their own 'place'.
@@randomuploadsism Of course that is true for some of them. I’m not against teachers in general and surely not all of them are privileged. However, that is very often the way they are perceived by some people publicly or maybe their communities.

Sarah was perfect in this scene, really “ showing up the teaching profession, a hard job, but common sense is always a good thing!😊
I have no idea what this show is as it just came into my feed but looked interesting. Gotta say I just love the officers performance. Makes me want to watch the show!
Sara is so lovely and gorgeous in real life ..it’s amazing how they make her look like well worn brilliant cop she’s a great actress
Just simply brilliant acting from a super series!
Sarah said when she was prepping for this character, she got on average, probably about five hours sleep per night to try to perfect the accent of that area. She also said that she needed to take a break from that character because it was so intense and having watched it several times I can certainly understand that she’s a brilliant actress.
Idk who this woman is or what this show is...
But I already love her immensely. This was therapeutic for me 😌
it's called happy valley it was on the BBC.
Sarah is an amazing actress ❤️
“I’ve seen your drawings the one on the car not yours “ that’s grandma energy
I love Sarah Lancashire's character; she doesn't take shit from anyone! She just gets the job done.
What a great character!! I think any tv show can't be bad if there's a main character like Catherine.
Sarah Lancashire we all salute you. You are a marvelous actress.
A great sense of humour in this 🤣
The last line killed me.
That’s talent
Sally Wainwright and Sarah Lancashire rock. Best of British drama.
Such a shame they finished this series it was absolutely brilliant! Brilliant! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love her.
Her last line, HahahahahaHAhahahaahahahahahah
Love happy Valley, Sarah Lancashire is amazing 👏
Based on this one clip and no other information I clearly need to find and watch this series.
I love the reason she knows he is innocent is that the graffiti on the car is better than what he can draw.
Putting teachers in their place? And where is a teacher's "place"?
Under a tory thumb it seems
In the home teaching their own kids and none else's
Behind the picket line..?
On holiday(s).
@@olearyma57 ah yes Michael, everyone should be working 365 days a week
@@denydeni144 Utter BS. Teachers are afforded no privilege whatsoever. People often dislike teachers because they disliked one of their own teachers.
@@randomuploadsism Of course that is true for some of them. I’m not against teachers in general and surely not all of them are privileged.
However, that is very often the way they are perceived by some people publicly or maybe their communities.
Wow I wish I could watch this show here in the United States. This looks like an awesome show.
Come on you missed the bit where Ryan asks Catherine isn't she too old to have a taser. That and the ending is the best bits
Brilliant series...🇿🇦
I have loved all of Happy Valley.
Gritty. Tense. Well written. Excellent.
I wish I could watch this series. Oh well...
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY everyone! 😄👍✨
M 🦘🏏😎
Happy Australia Day!
YES!!! I've had so many conversations that I wish had gone like this instead with teachers.
I would have loved this exchange:
Ryan: I didn't do it, FYI
Catherine: I know you didn't
Ryan: How?
Catherine: Because I did
Happy Valley is one of my favorite Crime series (USA here)
Absolutely brilliant actress and show
