I like sandals,so I picked up the new,Xero,H-Trail. They are huarache inspired, and they are nice looking, and comfortable. They are part of Xero Shoes current sales-event(Like the Ridgeway that is being reviewed here). Thanks for the great review. Peace!
Nice! I´ve been thinking about getting these or scrambler low for summer. I need more protection for the trails where I walk daily. Didn´t expect the outsole to be that rigid though 😬Did these fit true to size? Same as the prios except slightly wider toe box? Thanks!
I just got mine & im a woman & kind of wish they offered more colors, but my first impressions right out of the box is that they’re perfect, I’ll have to wear them more to be sure.
Ive been looking for a mountain bike shoe for years that will fit a "barefoot width foot". Since making the transition i can no longer wear conventional flat pedal mountain bike shoes. These look potentialy a perfect solution. However my vivo primus lite are a snug fit so i presume these would probably be too narrow?
Yea, Xero's are similar to Vivo's, sometimes even slimmer. For mountainbiking the Ahinsa Chitra might be a good option and it comes in an optional extra-wide width. ruclips.net/video/RHJnkMezZdo/видео.html You can also filter for width, activity, etc, with the shoe finder tool on my website: bit.ly/4dvs0FA. Any shoe that works for "Trail Running" would also work for mountain biking.
Hi. My boyfriend walks 10 miles per day, barefoot. In the heat of summer, he wears shoes to guard against the pavement, but if it were up to him, he'd go everywhere barefoot 24/7. He has hobbit feet (extra wide toe box). He is a stout person who is heavy into fitness. He mostly walks on pavement, but occasionally enjoys going out into the woods for a good hike. I was thinking, maybe the Freet Howgill for hiking because of the wide toe box and all the other features, but I was wondering if the water resistance might make them hot? For the pavement walking, what shoe do you think would best mimic going completely barefoot while offering some protection against broken glass or scorching heat?
Hey KT, the Howgill does indeed get hot/sweaty, and it's kind of overkill for anything but super rocky trails. The best near barefoot extra-wide options are the Vibram V-Trek ruclips.net/video/gN07dkOloU4/видео.html for warm/dry conditions and the Realfoot Trekker Low bit.ly/3spPqJX for all season use. Both work on trails and pavement.
No prob! I did try one Barebarics sneaker and didn't much care for it. The sole felt fairly stiff compared to Be Lenka's regular shoes. ruclips.net/video/B8upIEBndAc/видео.html
I know it’s not the purpose of these shoes, but how would you rate the Ridgeway Mesh Low for city walking on pavement? I walk anywhere from 10-20km primarily on pavement and I’ve been really interested in these shoes because I love the look as well. Thanks for the video!
They're definitely stiffer than most barefoot shoes, although the slight padding helps. Overall I think Xero has much more comfortable options, like the Glenn, which is only 5.5mm thick and has great flexibility for road walking. bit.ly/491wCjZ For roads I wouldn't go thicker than 6mm.
@@AndrewFolts Hey Andrew, I think I want the same as Josh. In fact I will try to start barefoot shoes but I can walk a little bit without any shoes in the street if I want, it is ok for my feet. Atm I want to improve my walk and I decided to try (in some months) 50 km, but I live in Belgium, if you don't know it is between France and the Netherlands, it's a flat country, super flat and very dense in population, so I'll probably do 50 km on a flat road xD But I search too if it's possible shoes to train in the gym (yesterday I did heavy barefoot deadlift). Personaly I tought about the very versatile Prio neo ??
@@morgant6508 The Prio's a great all around trainer, as long as you don't have wide feet. I used to leg press 500 lbs in my Primus Lite's, so barefoot shoes def make great lifting footwear.
great review, thank you! the Ridgeway Mesh Low looks cool and solid. would you say these would be suitable for multi-day hikes with heavy-ish backpacks?
Yea, that would be a good use case for it, as long as you're willing to trade ground feel and horizontal flex for higher protection and padding. They are def still lighter and more flexible vertically than a traditional hiking shoe.
Never had a pair of Xeroshoes. They look interesting: not only they seem to provide enough protection against rocks on the sole and at the tip thanks to their stiffness, they also have that mesh fabric on top which helps with the incoming summer temperatures. They also look good and I think you can wear them with casual clothings. 👍 #xeroshoes
If they made these with a gusseted tongue and waterproof these could take over the disc golf market. A lot of pros have switched to barefoot shoes and Vivo is taking over the market in the scene. If Xero could make a more affordable waterproof option they would conqueror the market. Currently all their waterproof low options don’t have the correct sole for disc golf. We throw off of concrete teepads so my WP Mesa 2s lugs get worn out way too quickly. The ridgeway has a perfect tread pattern to them.
They said if the shoe does well that they will probably make a wp version eventually. You could just get the normal ridgeway too if you don't care(it's waterproof).
I’m currently getting my first set of backpacking gear and these are definitely the number one shoes on my list right now! Not only are they sexy but I’ve also always wanted to try barefoot shoes so my toes can be the same. I’ll probably buy them anyways, but winning a pair in the giveaway would definitely be super helpful! Backpacking gear is crazy expensive. #xeroshoes
Are the Xerox’s narrower than vivobarefoots? I tried the Vivo trail today and am going to send it back, waaaaay too narrow for my foot. They’re not even as wide as my regular trainers. I was hoping that Xero might be a good alternative. Really struggling to find decent barefoot shoes that are wide enough. Funnily enough, the cheap toe shaped ones on Amazon fit great but the durability is terrible. Maybe I should just join the circus.

Hi I just had a random thought when watching the video. Isn't flexibility test when you flex the shoe upwards kind of pointless because our feet never going to flex in that direction anyway? Flexing it downwards would be much more useful to see, imo, because this can actually happen in real life. Like when you are standing on uneven surfaces. Not a critique, just an idea that I got
Our feet do in fact flex a shoe upwards. Every time you take a step your toes stay planted and your heel lifts, which flexes the shoe in the way I show. Obviously not that extreme, but it's about how easily the shoe can bend. Sometimes standing on uneven terrain it could flex the opposite way if you had a large rock under your arch, but very little compared to the motion of walking/running.
