Pro tip on removing old carpet. Goof off. Buy several gallons, use a pump sprayer and soak the carpet with it. And I mean soak it. Let it sit for an hour or so, it'll peel right off, AND all of the glue will be soft to where you can use a plastic scraper to remove about 90% of it. Then use more goof off and rags to wipe up what remains. Follow up with acetone to get it squeaky clean. Goof off doesn't have the fumes of acetone, but you'll still need a little to get in the nooks and those stubborn spots of glue.
My favorite boat, this has been done a while ago,but I have restored a lot of bass boats, the way I did my carpet was to start pulling it up and use a vibe cutter, flat blade, blasted that carpet, then I use the wire cup wheel on the grinder, blows away the dried glue,it was fast it pissed me off,all ot my glass tops got a layer of glass mat, sanded and new carpet,I put all my batteries side by side,
The boat I bought not long ago had a "soft spot" on the floor. Decided to rip up carpet and even bought an oscillating tool to help. I was able to rip up th carpet one handed without any tools to find that the only thing tha made it a "soft spot" instead of a gaping hole was the carpet. So fun. At least the engine runs great.
