Notice how Olajuwon would bang with a 300 lbs Center on offense and then go play defense and check Karl Malone. Malone was very good on offense, but Olajuwon was All-World on both ends of the court.
great battle between 2 of the best big guys ever...hakeem had 41p-13reb-6as-3bl in this game to!in the series malone avg 24p-10.6reb-5.2as...and hakeem avg 27.8p=10.2reb-4.4as-2.6steals and 4.6bl!i am sorry dwith and griffin but there are such great big guys right now in NBA.
Hakeem Olajuwon 41 points 13 rebs 6 assists 3 blocks in Game 2 1994 WCF 4 series 27.8 ppg 10.2 rebs with O.T. PF 4.4 apg like a David Robinson Barkley and Malone and Shaq , 2,3,4,5&6 of that 90s Gen Karl Malone 24 ppg 10.6 rebs 5.2 apg and apparently less than Hakeem worthy defensive work.
Malone was great for 20 years. But that series only shows how great is sometimes not legend as Olajuwon. Malone was over 52% that series. Hakeem was over 60%. He just couldnt miss specially having a terrible center (just like all that played in Utah) guarding him. And that Houston was incredible. Olajuwon had the perfect players around him. You could count on everybody. Kenny, Mario, Horry, even Thorpe and Cassell and Drexler later. I mean, Malone had Stockton and Jeff and...thats it. Orstateg on bench. LOL. But Malone was incredible. No other PF spent 20 years with 24-10-4 as average with long range, mid range, running court like he used to.
This Rockets team was a tough matchup for every team even the Sonics had more difficulty beating them. The Rockets struggled more with the style the Sonics played when they were overmatched at PF.
Hakeem 2-3 in 5 playoffs series vs Utah 1985 2-3 vs #6 Utah L 1994 4-1 vs #5 Utah W 1995 3-2 vs #3 Utah W 1997 2-4 vs #1 Utah L 1998 2-3 vs #1 Utah L 0-1 vs Eaton, Griffith, Dantley, Bailey. 2-3 vs Stockton 2-2 vs Mailman Karl Malone
Otis Thorpe was Houston's second best player from 89 or so when he came to Houston thru to 94. Whatchu mean? Even O.T. Thorpe made the Rockets formidable with Hakeem first and foremost.
Not true. There's some Karl Malone highlights on RUclips showcasing his various abilities, from his famed mid-range jumper to his low post game to his drives to his basket. Not to mention, of course, his pick-and-roll prowess with Stockton. By all means, based on those highlights, Malone was anywhere from competent to elite in most aspects of offense. HOWEVER, he lacked the extra gear or elite ability that could help push his team over the championship hump. Hakeem had his otherworldly quickness, explosiveness, and footwork. Combine that with a highly competent midrandge and turnaround jumpshot, and you had someone who was virtually unstoppable in the playoffs (90's illegal defense rules helped, admittedly). Malone's one elite ability was his immense strength. He couldn't be moved easily. Otherwise, he was above average quickness-wise (quick hands, good north-south running on his drives to the hoop or off of picks), but not elite. Same for his mobility - above average, but not elite. His strength allowed him to seal deep in the post, but his average length, height, and quickness made him merely a highly competent low post player rather than an elite one. As he aged, his iso game was mainly based on the threat of his mid-range jumper, which allowed him to bait his defender into biting his fakes. But when his jumper failed him from time to time (like at the end of the 98 Finals), he didn't have as many weapons to fall back on as the truly elite. His lack of length made his low post game a somewhat dicey proposition, especially against taller defenders (like Luc Longley). He also wasn't especially tricky around the basket like Hakeen was. Ultimately, Malone was just a weapon or two short from being a truly elite player who could carry his team on his back in playoff basketball when his teammates weren't scoring. But he was far from a one trick pony as the OP stated.
Karl Malone was statiscally better than Hakeem Olajuwon throughout their careers.Karl also had 2 Regular Season MVPs to Hakeem's 1.The Mailman also proved to be more durable than The Dream with solid 20 years of All Star level basketball. Olajuwon's only edge was his 2 rings nothing more if you go by the numbers.
Great match up
great memories
tha Mailman
tha Dream
Much Love 100%

Makes me wonder How many rings Malone would have if he had a team around him

Siapa John Stockton marlone? Bisakah ada yg tau dia
..
if only hakeem joined the utah jazz, they might have beaten MJ from 1997-1998
How ugly him in a Utah jersey
Dude one championship means alot u dont even know what your saying
malone never had hakeems footwork and post moves malone was only a great midrange shooter thats it

Malone was faster, stronger & a better scorer floor runner.
Karl Malone was elite in every way as a true NBA superstar. He just wasn't destined to win rings.
Olajuwon traveled a lot.
i think sometimes Hakeem gets too much credit. Malone would have been on the same level with hakeem if he had won a championship.
Olajuwon had Otis Thorpe 14 & 10 in 1994 Karl Malone had no front line help. Hakeem had Thorpe & Horry
The Jazz the following season had hca and the Rockets didn't have a real PF they could've won that series.
