Really impressed that you did this while working in such cramped conditions. Well done.
Nice work and lovely sound at the end after all that surgery
I wouldn't even know where to begin. Good job!
Looks fairly easy , everyone elese makes it look like a mission. Thanks for the video!
You have to be a heck of a mechanic to tackle a job like this, I'd be scared that something wouldn't work right if I were to do this job myself.
I've never done this job but I've done bigger. Honestly it takes good detailed instructions, organization, and patience. Frankly, I'm pretty impressed that regular people are tackling maintenance, repairs, and builds with the help of youtube.
@@Re.T986 Its because of $$ bro
Great to see another home grown BMW engineer
Well done man . Motivated me to do it myself .
Can’t wait for your channel to blow up! Great content
Thanks appreciate it.
Wow thank you for sharing this! Now seeing it for myself it doesn’t look too bad
Maaassssiiiiveee mfn props to you brother!!! As an F82 owner, I badly want to do this to my car but am honestly terrified!
I am comfortable with doing everything except the actual hub install itself. Nobody seems to thoroughy show it. Also the fact that this requires meticulous work around the vanos/cam gears themselves is what really gets me!
It is so nice to see another owner doing this vs taking it somewhere!
I may just decide to do this since no shop in Ohio seems to want to do this. They all refuse to touch it because its not OEM, and is of massive liability "they say".
GREAT VIDEO! Love your M!
Thanks appreciate it.
He's a bad man doing it it in a tiny space like that! 🔥
Great video bro keep at it 🫡‼️
Nice job, thanks for the vid
Respect mate! 💪🏽
Nice Good Job 👍
"crank hub" and "diy" are two things I didn't think I would ever hear in the same sentence lmao
*Edit* well done though!
🤣
Nice! Was about to tackle it myself but RSR has a special for 2k with parts. I’ll be having them do it
That’s not a bad deal, with all OEM parts and a new valve cover. It cost me about a $1000 .
What’s the address to it? I live in Oregon but travel to SoCal often.
Very impressive JnP! That is no easy job that you just did! I'm impressed by your confidence to DIY this! Looks you have can start another source of income since you bought all the tools!
Thanks appreciate it, I already had all of the tools, except for the timing tool. I am a Diesel Mechanic.
@@Jbonly21 makes sense now. That part where you tighten the crank bolt back is pretty heavy lifting for some. I had mine done at a shop instead, went with the spline lock approach. Happy miles to you and your car. If my turbos ever fail, here come the Pures :).
@@m3drivr happy miles to you and you car as well. Are you tuned?
@@Jbonly21 I am. Running a less aggressive tune than BM, but I’m 2+. Not bothering with flex fuel as I don’t really see the need except for bragging rights. I did the hub because I just didn’t want to worry about the car long term. The crank issue is a little overblown; it really happens to very few stock cars. But if you’re keeping the car for longer, it might make sense. F80 is built like a tank compared to the prior M3 generations. I saw that you were tempted to tune in a prior vid :). The downside is that the car gets more twitchy on pedal tip in, just use some type of either 1) tune adjustment or 2) pedal modulator.
Yes you are right, I plan on keeping my car for a long time that’s why I did it too. I track the car so I don’t really need a whole lot of power. I might just get BM and run the GTS or CS tune and maybe a stage 1. The multiple map seem like some cool to have.
Nice! Ready for 1000hp now 💪
Thanks, I know right, I have to figure out the smog situation in Cal, before I tune her.
@@Jbonly21 yeah that’s a pain in the neck. I hear that guy kubax is good. I think the safest bet might be to do the dealership reflash when the time comes.
@@tractioncontroldelete yes, that’s what I have read, but has it been confirmed that some body actually did that and passed?
@@Jbonly21 yeah. That’s confirmed from two different Bimmerpost members
Hello everyone. Impressive and very detailed video! What is the reasonable,or book labor time, one should be charging for this job?
Anywhere from 10 to 15 hours, depending on the shop.
Nice job! Also doesn’t that make it hard to take off like if you have to do an oil pump or something? Since the crank hub presses into the crank
💯 you probably have to removed the front end to put a pulley on the to remove it.
Hi, I am going to replace the crank hub on my m4, when you torqued the crank hub did you use a different tool to hold flywheel ? Or just the timing kit ? Thanks
Yes, the flywheel lock pin.
Do you need to replace the crank hub if you don’t tune it? Also, why not get an M18 aluminum valve cover? I’ve read that the valve covers will crack & cause oil leaks….
You don’t have to, but it’s recommended, haven’t seen a good review on aluminum valve covers.
Do you have the link for the 2 covers? Do I also needa get the front main seal as well?
Everything you need f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1788445.
great vid, did u use the special tool for the front main seal?
No, I pry it out and use a socket to install new seal.
thx for the reply!! one more question, i have a manaul if it matters- is locking the flywheel under the car using the special claw tool not needed? i see some guys use it and some dont- cant wait to attempt mine in the coming weeks, will use this vid as reference every step @@Jbonly21
@s55ny the tool is necessary needed it’s just for extra security. The flywheel pin will do. If you buy the kit I use, I will recommend you buy another flywheel pin. The one in the kit is a little off. There’s a great write up in the description as well.
should have listened to you lol got way to ahead of myself with this job, shitty china flywheel lock pin must have bent once i broke the crank, broke the crank bolt and my flywheel starts moving smh, any tips to get this pin out w/o dropping trans? i did spin flywheel few times to try and wiggle it out no luck, its literally kicking my ass and winning smh@@Jbonly21
Can you change the crank hub without changing out sprocket and carrier?
Yes.
Can i ask what happened to the friction rings between sprockets? How did you stop them falling into the engine
I have them, you can use a magnet to grab them.
@@Jbonly21 thankyou
@@Safsbmwlife no problem!
How strong is this fix compared to a 4 pin? & why did you choose this? I’m planning of going hybrid turbos on my M4 and was wondering if I should pick this hub
This was the first fix on the market, and been around the longest. And personally I don’t feel comfortable drilling my crank, I feel like that put extra stress on the crank. Someone in the the f80 Facebook group, just broke his crank, making 700 hp and had a 2 pin crank hub fix.
But how would you remove the spline hub if you need to service something?
I just watched this and I don’t even own a s55 lol maybe someday
Could you help me do my crankhub? I’m in so-cal myself.
Hey quick question when you loosened the crank bolt did you use a flywheel tool or counter hold before loosening the crank bolt? Or did you just rely on the pin
Flywheel pin and the cam lock tool was all I used.
I did this with cam lock and flywheel pin lock only and bent both tools .Took me an several hours just to get flywheel pin out, not to mention needed a new tool set. God bless.
@Jbonly21 Did you bend your tool and had trouble to remove it??
@dawlessbeats6223 yeah, I had to pry it out.
Did this hold up I just got a solid one
So far so good!
hello,fuel line installation require torque?
No, they are flare fitting, so just snag .
@@Jbonly21👍👍
Does the same apply for n54?
Not really, unless you are making crazy power.
I wonder how much bmw would charge for a job like this?
They charge almost $10k and they will only install Bmw parts. No after market parts.
I think people red line there car too much pushing 600 plus bc you can have stage 2 & straight pipe with no issues it depends on your driving style
💯
