    Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we meet Paul the owner of BARRAZUZU! A Isuzu NPR400 Truck Originally Turned Barra Swap! This is truly a wonderful mad creation that just again shows how good the Barra motor just is! this is a WORING truck.. that regularly gets booked for jobs haha you just have to love it! Is the Ford Barra Australias Best Engine??? Comment Below.
    Introducing The BARRAZUZU* A Barra Swapped Isuzu Truck!
    The people I would like to thank for help with putting this together are:
    -Craig Simpson - Go Hard Engineering.
    Craig fitted the motor and BTR Auto with custom engine mounts, Shortened the drive shaft, and designed and manufactured the truck handbrake assembly on the output shaft of the BTR Auto. He did a great job and we did not have any major teething problems.
    / gohardengineering
    -Nigel Veerhuis - CAN Solutions.
    I used Nigel's "CANBarra" to interface with the truck and keep everything as factory as possible.
    Nigel provided great support via email and on the phone. Little did I know at the time, but Nigel had spent some time redeveloping CANBarra to accommodate what I was doing and the 24v system in the truck.
    Nigel also took time out of his own schedule to meet up with me and help get the settings right for the factory Isuzu gauges.
    cansolutions.c...
    -Jim Lemonis - Sideshow's Performance Wiring
    Even though I did my own wiring, Jim helped with some ECU programming to accommodate the way the auto changed gears while having to deal with the 6.15:1 diff ratio.

    Interesting review of the “BarraZuzu”, Ross. I love this thing, you don’t see these to often. Goes to show how good the Barra is, after 300,000km it can still pull a 4ton truck from 0-100km in 28 seconds. The old Diesel engine that was in it would have been no where near as quick. It’s made a big difference to this truck. The auto being added to it would make it very easy to drive too. Thanks for the review.

      @@Low760 Let's be honest here, from what I could see it really struggled to get to a 100, could just be the crappy auto they use but I'm positive it was empty so once you put a few ton in the back it's going to be hopeless, atleast with the turbo you will have the torque needed, there's a reason why trucks use turbo diesels.

  • @brokensuave
    @brokensuave Год назад +19

    Just a shame it wasnt adapted to the original manual gearbox, that would have been a good combo. Otherwise the ZF 6 speed would have been a better choice for both performance/economy, but also longevity. The BTR isnt the most bulletproof of boxes, hopefully its got a good transmission cooler. Plus the tall first gear in the BTR would be torture fully loaded versus the lower geared first and second in the 6HP26. Just the same, I reckon the Barra would be a fantastic truck motor and I really love the uniqueness of this build. Love that its a proper work truck in revenue service. Also extra points for the custom stickers.

      surely tall gearing would have been rectified somewhat in diff ratio?

    • @brokensuave
      @brokensuave Год назад +3

      @@RossReviewsau Yeah adapting to the original manual gearbox would have required custom bellhousings and modification to the input shaft and various other drive train re-engineering. I reckon getting a donor with the ZF 6HP26 would have been more ideal, but we all know how ideal life is. Certainly having the incredibly short truck diff ratio would make up somewhat for the tall 1st in the BTR, but the extra gear reduction in 1st and 2nd with a 6HP26 would make for a much more energetic launch, and generally be more driveable. The 6HP26 is a much snappier and less lazy natured transmission than the BTR, and more suited to truck work. But again, when something comes along for the right price then beggars cant be choosers. As it is this would still be way easier to drive than the original diesel and manual combo for the average person hiring a truck, and still provide smooth power.

    One of the best engines out there, period!
    I love the practicality of it though. Dirt cheap compared to original replacement, huge bump in performance and drivability, dead simple to maintain (even intake manifold gaskets would be piss easy in that engine bay) and even if say it does crap out a few hundred thousand KM down the road, just swap it out with another readily available engine as all the finicky shit has already been done 👍
    I'm actually kind of surprised that more companies aren't doing this with the LPG motors more specifically as LPG and synthetic oil would require infrequent servicing, and if you have the propane setup to run forklifts, just use that to run the delivery vehicle. It just makes sense!

      I got the shifter from the USA and the BTR from the donor car. In Oz, finding an auto shifter was hard. There were very limited numbers of diesel autos before Isuzu shifted to AMTs (Automated Manual Transmission). In the US, They were mainly V8 Autos.

    The only newer Isuzu that doesn't do a DPF regen (Burn) which is a good thing. Nothing wrong with the Isuzu motor, besides the annoying DPF burn, and the extremely sub standard quality of the EGR valves.
