I love the footage of the design process and workflow instead of just copying the staircase design plans that are already online on woodworking forums and 3D print pages. I mean, it is still a similar end product but we get to see the shop creative process almost live.
i really enjoy seeing the design process. PLEASE more of this in the future! it is so interesting and cool to see how y'all solve problems for real.
I love seeing Bennet's process! I also like seeing Johnny designing solutions. It is great to see people progression over the years and great that Wyrmwood has room to allow employees to explore, develop and move up in the company
if there was a way to get the dual dice tower idea to work it would be amazing for crucial opposing rolls. Would be amazing to have for those tense moments to roll vs your dm
I wonder if they did something like a split feed part way through, so down the middle there was a divider and then half tilts one way and half the other
Or they could make a double wide of their original dice tower. One facing forward and the other facing back
Dueling Towers!
any advantage and disadvantage roll would be awesome too
@@JanKenk it's wide enough that they could split it down the middle and have them spit out sideways away from each other at the bottom. Perfect for the Hexy tray (probably not for other trays)
I love seeing the product prototyping, more of this please!
This episode may me smile just about the whole way through. Definitely a great pick-me up to start the weekend right!
If I were to buy this, I would want a top section with crenellation or some other aesthetic topper
Yes! I want my tower to look like an actual castle tower!!
crenels and corbels.
if they weren't there, I would 3d print something to fit
Could we, perhaps, possibly, have...
MACHICOLATIONS!?
that wouldn't be genre-neutral though
@@OrphicMonkey seen crenels all over warhammer-- it's just architecture
This episode really made me realise how creative Bennett is at solving prototype issues and also making products that are desirable/customisable
Bennet is the new Jason
Dude u should have a full blade on the outsides of ur dado stack. Ima need 2 come up there
Is that so? why is that, if you dont mind me asking?
Also, congrats on your nuptials!
@@IamNOTatoaster91 safety. You usually never use chippers only. They’re typically sandwiched between full blades. But don’t quote me, do your own research if you plan on using them.
@@IamNOTatoaster91 For a cleaner cut at the edges. My dado stack has about 3/4 of the rim toothed, with a gap for the fillers to stack without grinding teeth.
I miss the live chat
Same here. It is fun comparing and commenting live with people.
I don’t think there was one. I didn’t get the 15minute warning
Absolutely love the crafting and design episodes, its so cool to see the problem-solving and progress and how these products are really put together with care and love of design. I miss the crafting vids of how each product was made, and every so often I'll rewatch the crafting vid of Matt's DM screen. More process & crafting vids please! We love them!
What can I say, I'm a simple person.. I see Benny.. I click.
Love his work and cant wait for more. Seeing his process was awesome and I hope we will see more in the future!
Call me crazy but I think this is one of the best videos I’ve seen lately, I love the process and seeing Bennett going through his creative flows and would love to see more designers going through these processes.
Yeah great craftsmanship. Awesome shots. Seeing the progression. It's like the old school videos they used to do
Modular Dice tower...i hope you do Toppers for it with different themes...like different castle tower tops. Like 1 covered in vines and flowers, 1 that is clean, and 1 that is battle damaged maybe...i'm sure there's lots of other ideas for Tower toppers.
The design and woodworking episodes are a lot of fun, there's been so much business end content recently.
RIP rainstick sounds :(
Oh wait, their back :)
I think seeing the design process is one of my very favorite things on this channel. Can't wait for DM screen development :)
Maybe I'm the weirdo, but I see no reason to have stackable extensions.
right here with you. fun for the unique, but i would feel no need to purchase, especially with the already elegant and accessible dice tower w/ tray combo which is more appealing. Continual functions.
I echo the desire for some sort of topper level that makes it look like some sort of tower.. whether crenellations or a wizard roof or something
Sounds like they could make a whole bunch of different styles kind of like the character classes. Princess turret with pointy roof would be fun. Treasure chest with flip open top.
The dueling tower is such a RAD idea!!
And that closing shot!!! Im impressed you attempted it!
Okay, I have an idea. Hear me out.
I've hoped for a long time that you'd develop a table accessory where you can connect a tabletop tile (or several) to the table's magnetic rail. But you could kill two birds with one stone if this hex tower also had magnets to connect it with the tabletop tiles system, assuming it could be the same dimensions. Then you can put the hex tower in facing different directions by re-orienting the hex, but the same table accessory would allow you to insert whatever tabletop tile you wanted. Additionally, this means the hex tower would click into a set of tabletop tiles.
Sure, you wouldn't be able to smoothly rotate the tower, but I think this would provide more options with fewer SKUs. Just a thought.
Damn it's fun watching Bennett work.
Its videos like this that make me appreciate how easy 3d print prototype is
Having options is good, but uhmm... why is it not made to fit the current hexy tiles with the magnets adn stuff? Like you have a hexy tile that is made to be a receptacle for things going up like the tower, make it modular if you have more upwards scaling things you wanna make and it fits in for everyone that has regular tiles ?
Looks like the table saw blade could use a changing
Legit getting more videos like this where we see the process of developing and finishing up a product, or even an idea of one is super cool and I hope you'll do more of this stuff
I think we need a dedicated segment called Designing with Bennet or something like that. Or even a separate channel for woodworking basics of something. Man, you guys could even sell little projects for people to do at home along with some videos.
Love the stackable concept. How insane would it be to make the modular toppers "tuned" to different pitches or timbres? Maybe different hardwoods, thicknesses, cutouts, etc. Not so far as a marimba tone, but just maybe a selection of general "tones" to make a giant tower even cooler and more personal than just the height of it.
Maybe have something like Classic Adventuring Party version?
You know, if you put a band around the top of each modular piece, including the base, that sat up higher than the edge of the section, it would hide the lines where the pieces join up. You could do different looks for different classes. Hefty iron for dwarves, light scroll work for elves, etc.
I could watch Bennett design things all day. Please make more of these. Or give him a show.
This is kind of the idea
Now build a transforming box-case that's just a DM screen/standing-desk/multi-tool so some of us can go to conventions (eventually) again like a damn tactical loadout boss. Tired of showing up looking like I kidnapped Nezuko from Demon Slayer.
Old folks: buying dice towers based on color, luster, and grain.
Kids today: buying dice towers based on xylophonic tones.
The timber vs. timbre debate rages on...
I have an awesome idea! Since it's hex you can make it a dice tower AND a new type of hexy tray. Here's what I'm thinking...
You'll have two parts. The bottom and the stackable barrels. As we've learned, barrels really only need two platforms to bounce well. If you want more you can stack them. Exactly the way he designed is perfect. My idea is all for the bottom.
First, get rid of the first two platforms on the bottom. It should just be the ramp. This will also justify the modularity. The tower you currently have designed doesn't actually need the extra barrels. Next make it thicker. Elevate the ramp up higher. Since it's a little higher you'll want a shallower angle which will also help with the next idea.. Flip it over and make it.. *drumroll.. THE DEEP DISH* hexy tray.
Now, if you don't need a rolling tower it doubles as a very predominant and elevated dish for a large shared bank of tokens.
'
And since it's a hex tray now you might even be able to add the compatible connecters as well. It would be easy for the bottom. The top would be tricky but if you could make that work then you could use other hexy trays like the tavern tile as a lid. Not sure if that functionality is worth it but maybe.
The deep dish tray makes me think of the waffle tile, and doing a cast iron deep dish tray, that you can make Hexy Time Hexagonal pizza in. ;)
@@jonevansauthor Thin crust uber alles.
That said, Tory got a good point.
@@brucemaximus3797 Thanks, I just drafted it up in tinker cad and im gonna email it. It too good of an idea for me to not throw it at them.
Very cool to see the design process, but I'm left wondering what problem is the modular portions of it solving exactly?
awesome video. maybe the best yet. now... i got an idea... i want a window in that tower... i want to see the dice go boopediboop... in fact... i want a fucking marble run for that dice tower. but istead of marbles. it rolls d20s.
At this point, just say "Fuck it" and make an hexagonal Wyrmwood logo.
Absolutely loved this video. It's great seeing the personality behind the craftsman, their design process, and we get to feel the excitement of how a product is being invented. Also, that ending footage was so relatable. Lol
I would watch episodes of just Bennett and Jonny building things.
YES! I think this may possibly be the best video you have ever posted. Loved everything about this
This episode had it all: crafting, prototyping, testing, smiling jason, cool dice.
All of the design work is great. I love watching Johnny, Bennet, and Crazy Ed do some magic with a saw, then something awesome comes out.
Possibly my favourite episode of wyrmlife ever! Combining the discussion and sneak peaks of classic wyrmlife with the crafting videos
As an amateur woodworker, this was a blast to watch. Note the handsaw work at the end. You can have every tool in the world but more often than not, it comes down to the craftsman's hand and eye.
All I wanna do is *gunshot* *gunshot* *click* *cash register noise*. Iconic.
also would love to see like the same sort of process stuff for the deck boxes. like a more detailed processing video haha
You could call it a the dice keep
Woah, super long episode today! Reminds me of the first few seasons of Wyrm Lyfe!
This design seems to be too complicated to be machined effectively, these are gonna be expensive if they ever do come out
I’m sure prototypes are always more complicated because it’s a one-off that must be refined as they go. Once they have a working prototype, they can work on streamlining the manufacturing process.
since is stackable what about a 6 piece tower that when taken a part fits perfectly in the rolling tray?
Looks Amazing, and Sounds even better! 🙂
I simply adore "I think I got it :)"
I would just love to see more Bennet! This is my favorite Wyrm Lyfe episode to date
Bennett at work. My favorite Wyrmwood videos.
This is why I can't wait to watch every new video. Outstanding content done by outstanding people. Thanks!
When will this dice tower be in production??? I need this!
I love these woodworking videos the most.and the r &d process is inspiring!
This has to be one of the best videos and I love WyrmLife. Seeing the design process and going from step to step was amazing.
Please please please keep showing us the design process, that was insanely fun to watch!!
Absolutely would LOVE more of these. It's amazing to see the craftsmen behind your products and the work they put into creating something genious.
Omg. the tease at the end... please complete the i! please!
Just math... so much math. Stay in school kids.
Hex mugs is the next step in the Hexy evolution.
Tabletop Tiles Keychains!
I love Bennett as a designer and I've been incredibly impressed by his work and aesthetic in the past, but this one falls flat for me. What unique innovation is here and what problem does it solve? Just that you don't have a current dice tower that can nest inside the party tray? I have a P tray, T tray and dice tower, and I've never wished that the dice tower would consume a larger footprint on the table. Towers also need to be accessible to players, so I'm unclear on the need to magnetize to an edge. Lastly, each of those incremental layers to make it taller will be what, $40-$50? The current dice tower is elegant in it's simplicity - works with all trays, it's collapsible and magnetic to nest in the P trays, and doesn't take up too much table real estate. Anyone could have looked at your existing hex line and thought of a clunky hex dice tower to complement, which is what disappoints me about this one. Keep innovating. I'd expect something from you guys like a dice tower "insert" that magnetizes to the tabletop tile rack so that it still has a purpose when all your tiles are in use.
bennet should craft a DM screen next!
I know not every episode can be this involved with creating a new product but this was great I really enjoyed getting to see Bennett work and watch all Wyrmwood's ideas come to life. Great episode probably one of my favs.
These are my favorite types of Wyrm Lyfe episodes. Perfect blend of problem solving and design from a master craftsman.
This is giving me more hope for a hexy table
Would love to see a new take on a DM screen!
IDEAS: You guys have a lot of player focused stuff, but less DM focused stuff. Any thoughts on an initiative tracker tool? How about a nice wooden carry case/briefcase for travel or a set piece display case for a lot of minis and or maps?
I enjoy the look of the tower one, and am continuing the comment shouts of a Topper for it (at the tippy top) you could make it look like a castle's crenellation. However, your dice tower as is is great because of its ability to break down and carry. But on the flip side, if the idea is more "all players travels to THIS dice tower" then its a Better set piece than the current dice tower, as evidenced with the party tray.
Great video you guys, happy to see this kind of work again. Bennet, even if your design isnt what I want as a player (I like to roll without towers) your process and enjoyment is really what I want to support more with buying Wyrmwood products, the freedom of thought and ability in a creative space. Great work!
This is true. We have ideas for DM's too but when it comes down to it theres just way more players than DM's. Not saying that they will never happen though :)
@@souperfast9814 yes thats totally fair, seeing that more players = more purchasers, its the smart move; I DM and I still buy player specific stuff. Wyrmwood does do higher tier stuff for DMs, but idk how successful that is for sales.
YES! A 20 second drop for a critical save/death save; the suspense will be KILLER!!! I have faith that a beautiful form will evolve from this functional design. OH! How about a musical dice tower, like a wooden wind chime? That would be AWE-MAZING! Watching the organic design process was inspiring, fired up my 3D printer to make stuff again. Thanks!
This was amazing! Love Bennett. But also seeing the process of how you develop your stuff. If you ever go to like 3-5 times a week I'd love to have a day a week for development or the crazy creative people like Bennett!
this took 4 days just to film LOL
@@souperfast9814 yes and if you do a weekly that makes sense. Since you would have let's say 4 episodes a week of WL. Nr 1 standard, Nr 2 keystone. Nr 3 media land, Nr 4 development with Bennett
I think this might be my favorite episode of the season! So satisfying and interesting to see the design take shape. Also I love how the dice tower sounds.
Nice process. very entertaining. you could even sell a line of modular tower segments that would allow the DM to keep track of time for the Players' day in 6 four-hour sections like Dawn, Morning, Day, Sunset, Evening and Night with a base called Time. Each segment would be decorated and stained to resemble it's period of time. You're welcome! Keep up the great work.

Oh…OH!!!
I didn’t even realize that this was Wyrmwood that I was watching! I just thought it was some fancy dice tower for fun, but now that o Linder that it’s Wyrmwood, the guys that Critical Role loves and loves to do giveaways!
Chalk up a new Critter onto your subscriber list!
This is lovely, I love the rainmaker sound, that Nat. D20 from the tower and of the fact that this was done in an entirely safe way rather than some of the stuff that gets on youtube that's almost jackass style reckless. I've subscribed to you guys now. Oh, also great Spongebob references!
A suggestion would to be to paint each section of the tower in a different elemental style, fire, earth, wind, water etc.
I almost bought one of your products a couple years ago. I just didn't quite have the funds to justify it at the time, though. That said, as soon as I can, I will be picking up one of your towers. They're so nice.
So what could be cool for the dice towers and modularity is making like a little lid/topper in the style of a wizards tower, maybe help it fit in with the wild monsters theme that was in one of the recent campaigns. When I saw the tower getting larger with the modular aspect it just made me think of Orthanc and Isengard. Could be pretty sick
How well do larger dice like Wingspan dice work in the towers?
Suggestion: With the stacking dice towers... offer game-specific, or other customized branding/designs for the 'add-on' top sections.
Awesome insight - but that dice tower! I backed a party tray for wargaming, in W40k when Orks and Berzerkers are in melee you can easily be rolling 40+ D6s!
Such an incredible video, as for what to design next, I want to s the dm screens return
Way to sexualize sawing and gluing! 😅
Side note, does Wyrmwood make initiative trackers? With the hex tile storage rack and now this stackable dice tower, I feel like something could serve dual purpose as an initiative tracker. Smaller sections that represent a player? That sounds insane… anyways, I feel like an initiative tracker is hidden already in some product of theirs and we just haven’t unlocked it.
Epic!!! Love the stackable idea! You can have many different styled stacks for each one. Brilliant!!!
After seeing this, I was hesitant only buying a magnetic tower to go with the CAP trays and vaults. I’m all-in on MGT and hex system. I ended up inky getting the CAP vaults and hoping the hex towers will deliver.
You need a tray and tower that fold flat enough to fit in a standard binder for easy travel.
This guy - you can just read the happiness he feels working on this and having his vision come to life. I will always respect and love people are this passionate about what they are doing, and I gotta say this guy probably needs a promotion just for his wonderful attitude
a little late, but its kinda weird how i designed something much like these before i saw your video. Mine are entirely 3d printed and I still have some things to improve. But yours look amazing!, my dice towers currently have 3 different modules that tumble the dice in different ways. Was wondering if you could do something similar, making different modules, such as a peg design, and slope, or water wheel-ish thing, that all work in the same tower.
Definitely one of the top 5 videos you guys have made. It combines the craftsman videos with the wyrmlife vibe. More please! This video= *Chef's kiss
Yes Bobby!!!!!! I'm waiting for the episode where you stack the tower to the roof and drop dice all the way down. Seeing the design process is great and loved the music accompanying each bit.
Idea! What if the stackable towers are painted or designed like Fantasy towers? Wizard tower? The possibilities are endless!
I’m picturing a D&D Wizard tower and the party tray could have some cool colorized leather that is themed to look like a swamp or motte.
Joining the chorus.
I like all the videos, but these "follow the design prototyping and creation" videos just hit differently. There is a certain calmness that comes with watching the act of creation of something new.
Also, the product seems SO satisfying to use, the only downside will be the constant "I could add another piece and make it even bigger". lol
Seems like the new Baby CnC machine would have done this faster, and more accurately... giving you more stacky things to play around with.
Jason, no. If it is smaller, it won't be the same width as the hex tiles. Did you see how crestfallen Bennett got when Jason negged the hex tower? SO. And he's USED TO IT.
Can you go horizontal instead of just vertical? I'm thinking dice CASTLE!
This was one of the best episodes ever! So inspirational to see a craftsman at work.
Wait aren't the current dice towers able to be broken down?
Also, the OGT can slap onto the side of both the party tray and the reg hex roll tray too?
I'd rather have the collapsible tower that can work on all the rolling surfaces, than a hexy tower that has can only use the party size.
Using the other hexy tiles to make a negative space surrounding the "dice roll radius" could provide a controlled area for dice.
With this, anyone that bought the hexy rolling tray and wanted to implement a dice tower is kinda SOL, if the hexy went forward.
I know why everybody uses dado stacks like those, but in 4 years of cabinetry we have always used 50T full kerf with racker teeth and spacers if we wanted to be exact. They give such a clean edge, unless it’s plywood or mdf, than forget it
Make modules that allow dice to be loaded from the sides, so u can have more input. FEED THE DICE TOWER!
