This concert may have been in 85, but the album Back In Black dropped July 25th, 1980 and I remember it oh so well. For a long time, at least a couple years, you couldn't drive around town without hearing SOMEONE blasting it in their car and it's STILL one of the best selling albums of all time. I can't help but think of how much fun it would be to sit down with you two, listening to classic jams and relate what it was like to be alive and be there when all of this stuff you have been playing was brand new. Society has changed a lot between then and now
‘Back In Black’ is the biggest selling heavy-metal album of all time and the third most selling album of any kind. This came out my senior year in high school! It was a great time to be alive! Society has changed a lot.
@@thewiseoldherper7047 I was also a senior 80-81. My good friend Marvin and I would blast this sitting in the parking lot, "Getting our Mind Right" before walking into school. He passed few years back, but what great memories.
You guys should check out AC/DC's Ride On with Bon Scott on vocals. The song was almost like Bon Scott had a premonition of his death when he and the Young brothers wrote it and it's not your typical AC/DC sound. 💯🔥✌️
Bon Scott passed away February 19th 1980. Almost 43 years ago. Brian has been there screaming for a very very long time. 🙂 No wonder his chords needed work! 😉
One week to the day before my birthday. 13 years old, and it was a shocker. I just began getting into ACDC with the release of Highway To Hell, then tossing High Voltage and Dirty Deeds into the mix for variety. Bam! Thought it was over already.
I have a friend who worked at the Publix in Sarasota, FL, on the corner of Clark and Tamiami Trail. She said Brian Johnson used to come in there quite a bit and was the nicest and most humble human on earth to everybody. I love hearing those stories so much.
Saw them live in Philly in 1992 and they blew the roof off of the Spectrum! Incredible high energy from the first note till the last. You never sat down ever during an AC DC concert. They still bring the same amount of energy from what I have seen and heard, far more than most Rock bands half their age. HOF Legends, top 10 GOAT Rock bands ever.
Bon Scott died in February 1980. That spring Angus and Malcolm had Brian come and sing with them, and had him write lyrics to the album BACK IN BLACK as a tribute to all of their friend, Bon. It is in the top 3 of most sold albums EVER. It is still be sold, and many people continuously wear out their albums, cds, and cassettes, and get new ones IMMEDIATELY. Bon was the one who made ACDC what they are, and Brian was perfect to continue in his absence.
Brian is from Newcastle England (on the border of Scotland) and Malcolm, Angus, and Bon were all born in Scotland before transferring to Australia in the late 50s when their dads were looking for work. They all have that sandpaper voice. Angus and Brian famously drink their tea, smoke endless cigarettes backstage. Their drummer had a meth problem 15 years ago, and Malcolm was addicted to alcohol. They never got into the drugs like their contemporaries.
There is a rumor that has some substance that Bon Scott had already written 50-75% of the Back in Black album before he passed. It's also said that they didn't credit him because they didn't want his heirs to get any profits off of the album because the band really didn't like them.
Bon Scott wrote this song along with every other song on BiB and at least half of FTATR. Angus can play the shit out of a guitar but he can't write for shit and Brian can't find a rhyme for moon or June. Just look at the lyrics for any of the later stuff and compare it to ANYTHING written by Bon.
brian johnson is a great guy. but in my opinion he was not a perfect replacement for bon scott. His voice too high and raspy for my liking. never liked him as a singer . loved all of AC/DC albums with bon scott. Back'n'Black is a great album but sadly the rest of the albums is crap.
Saw them a few times right around this time, AC/DC was always a great show. When you see Brian in interviews he is just a fun English gentleman. He joined in 1980 shortly after Bon died earlier that same year.
You should check out some Brain Johnson interviews. His speaking voice will surprise you as it is much deeper than his singing voice and he seems like a very humble down to Earth guy with lots of humor and funny stories. His interview on the Howard Stern show talking about the circumstances leading up to the audition was really good and interesting.
This song was the band's tribute to Bon Scott, their original singer, who died from aspirating his own vomit while sleeping off a wild night of drinking.
This was a song we used to play for a drinking game...every time he sings have a drink on me, you drink! Definitely a challenge after a couple of plays! 🤣🤟
i agree with some of the other comments in regards to the 45 i believe that line has dual or multiple meanings a 45rpm record, sunblock, or pistol it was an attempt at not only being witty but reaching out to music lovers from other genres brad is correct this song makes you want to dance on the beach because your on vacation in hawaii without a care in the world for 2 weeks and lex being supportive as always great reaction guys lol
I don't know if it's been said yet or not, but I have read that this song was a tribute to Bon Scott, their first singer. The article I was reading said that the term "Have a Drink On Me" in Australia means a group of friends gather and have a drink to say cheers to their dearly departed friend.
And if you want raw, one of my favorite cuts off the previous album, highway to hell, the last one with Bon Scott, there is an extremely fun song and actually one of my favorite rock and roll riffs for guitar ever. The day I learned how to play that I was so excited. It's called, beating around the bush. It's just nuts, it's a total Banger and it's not very long. It was at the end of side a as I recall and what a great way to end an album side. Came out when I was in high school and I bought it and my friend talked me into going to see them open up for Cheap Trick and I'm so glad I did. That was one of the most memorable concerts and I went to so many. It's just hard to describe how intense it was in the arena was kind of small because this would have been like 79, and it was just fantastic it's just wow. Sadly, he died not long after. And then we were kind of shocked when they came back from the grave so to speak back from black and death and funerals, with their smash album back in black. Which is what this is off of. It's like wow, they came back through and I went to see them again only this time, Cheap Trick was opening for them!
Brian Johnson's frontman energy is like a friendly bloke at the bar waving ya over to sit down and have a good time while Bon Scott's frontman energy was like you better watch out walking through the alley to get to your car otherwise Bon may jump out from the shadows and stab ya for your wallet.
You guys should find some stuff on RUclips where Brian Johnson is just talking to someone about stuff. His voice is low and real gravelly, and he's hilarious! He seems like one of the nicest guys. 🤘😎
Love AC/DC … interesting a tribute to Bon Scott who died of alcohol poisoning, R.I.P. Brian is good but Scott was next level… with his whiskey washed voice. ❤
My dad passed away last summer and my brother just got around to going through his belongings. He found a hand written note that said, "When you assholes find this"!Have a drink on me"🍺🍻RIP GENO! Miss you old man!✌❤🙏🍻🍺
Angus Young has that thing truly great guitar players seem to possess. His own tone. When you hear his playing, you have no doubt who's on the guitar. Very distinctive sound. You would say the same about Eddie Van Halen, or Randy Rhoads.
theres still so many amazing songs from them hopefully you will react to them some of them are: whole lotta rosie, walk all over you, rock and roll train (the riverplate version is amazing with the crowd), if you want blood, hells bells, shoot to thrill, etc...
I remember when AC/DC was new. I was into more bluesy rock at that time, and Southern rock. If they hadn't done those "Hell" songs I could have gotten more into their stuff.
Brian Johnson and Bon Scott met once in the 70’s. Bon as a member of AC/DC went to a gig to see Geordie, Johnson’s local band (in Newcastle) . Bon told the other members of AC/DC of this great singer of whom was belting out the lyrics. Unbeknownst to Bon, Brian was suffering from appendicitis and was screaming his lyrics because he was in agony. Bon didn’t know this , but thought Brian was awesome. He was sent to the hospital via an ambulance after the show. A few years later when Brian auditioned for AC/DC (after Bon’s passing) the band mentioned Bon’s praise of Brian’s singing. During his audition, Johnson screamed his lyrics (as Bon had recollected) and the rest is history. See Johnson’s interview on Howard Stern to see this and how a Hover vacuum changed rock history. So technically, Bon helped pick his own replacement.
P.S. this song off of AC/DC’s epic “Back in Black” rubbed some AC/DC faithful the wrong way as it appeared disrespectful as Bon died from drinking and this song was saying have a drink on me.
Wow I was 10 when Bon Scott passed, which I remembered how devastating it was. Which I loved all the songs before Brian started. I like Brian but Bon was ACDC. He put along of character in his singing. Miss Bon Scott.
He may sing with at a high pitch, but actually has a very low voice when he talks. This song was off the album right after Bon Scott died. The whole album was a tribute to him, this song is not exactly poking fun, but more just being a smart ass, about the fact that he was a huge party animal and died after he got absolutely hammered, passed out, suffocated and died. They have a bit of a twisted sense of humor I guess.
I do have a diff list you may enjoy from ACDC : Little Lover - Love Song - You Ain't Got A Hold On Me - Love At First Feel - Ain't No Fun ( waiting round to be a millionaire ) - Love Hungry Man - Let Me Put My Love Into You - Let's Get It Up - Evil Walks - Rising Power - Nervous Shakedown - Got You By The Balls - If You Dare - Night Prowler - Ride On 🤙
