Mama bear was protecting her cubs. Dogs were protecting their owner's territory. The human was protecting her dogs. Mammals have such a powerful protective instinct to protect what matters to them most.

Yes, you wrote what I also wanted to say---the Mother Bear wasn't attacking the dogs---more or less the reverse. The Teen girl is damn lucky she didn't get bitten. I hope Momma Bear and her babies do find some other places that are safer.

@@Theyralltakenfu Mama bear and the cubs were trying to find a path. Most likely trying to find new foraging grounds but ended up at a human's nest(the house).
They were both being Mama Bears.

both the "specialist lady" and the negative comments , fail to understand the efficiency of ACTING FAST and with commitment. Yes the bear was in kind of a "narrow" situation , but make no mistake, THE SPEED and commitment to actions is what took the bear by surprise. In other words , this girl's energy and action dominated a scene where normally she would have been at a disadvantage . That's how you do it !!!

What a brave dog mom! It was fortunate that both the Bear and the girl had the exact same intentions and the bear probably understood and decided to take her cubs elsewhere. I thought it was funny that the girl said she probably wouldn't do that again, but personally? I think she would. That kind of instinct is hard to squelch.

Instead of rushing at the bear face first, she could've grabbed a fork or something. But for that they should've kept things like that prepared. They know it was by sheer luck that the bear fell (it lost its footing because it was disctracted by the dogs and startled by this crazy girl coming right upto its face, and more than all that thankfully the wall was very narrow). If the wall had been 2 feet wider, the news would've been entirely different. That bear would've swiped her face off, picked her just like that and left, instead of the dogs.

That's what I came to say. I live in Florida, and occasionally, we get a black bear in our neighborhood. I could never just stand by and watch the bear kill my dog. It's instinct to protect who you love.

If one of my pets or 'fur babies' were in grave danger I would do my best to intervene and so would many other pet lovers. Pets, children and family members are equal, if you had a missing child they would send a dog out to see if there was a scent to follow. Dogs detect bodies underwater, they can detect illness, drugs etc. If you were unfortunate to go blind you my well find a guide dog very useful and give you your independence back. Do I really have to state the obvious. My advice stay away from pets, it would be cruel if you had one and cruel to the pet.

@banjwolf Yeah it's possible but rare with black bears. It would take a human being purposely aggressive, going after their cubs for them to attack or if food was scarce and they are starving and looking to eat you.. Now if this were a grizzly bear then I would 100% agree.

I'm just saying I'm not surprised this bear didn't try mauling her or k*lling her, which it easily could have done in 3 seconds, because it's a black bear. Now if this was story was about her and a grizzly I would be more impressed that she escaped death was my point.
@@Naturefan354 Seems like I once read a magazine article that said more people are actually EATEN by black bears than by any other type of bear. If that was accurate info, I'm sure the higher numbers of black bears (and the higher numbers of humans nearby) play major roles.
@Fuzzybeanerizer Real man eating bear attacks are rare. It typically only happens when the bears are diseased or food is scarce. I actually remember reading similar literature that stated majority of attacks from black bears were from males and not from female black bears with cubs. And I wasn't trying to imply black bears are "harmless" to humans, only that they are less likely to attack as a defense to humans compared to grizzly bears. And that true predatory attacks are rare from black bears and more common with grizzly bears
Dude this was a momma bear with 2 cubs. She is soooo lucky this bear was caught off guard. A female bear with cubs is something you just don't mess with. EVER! Can you say brave and lucky as hell!

Yasss, a girl with strong mommy instincts. She's very brave to be protecting her dogs from an animal as big as a bear. I'm quite a small woman, but even my instincts have taken over when a dog is in danger. Fortunately, I've only had to protect from other dogs, and none above medium size. Those dogs are very lucky to have her as their person!

Fish and wildlife nothing. Despair was looking for food many dogs go missing because bears take them for lunch. There's been more than one person to fight off a bear for the Love of their animals. The stand back watch your dog being eaten is not an option. Most bears are kind of cowards to begin with. They don't expect you to rush them.

When a pet is in danger, you do not hesitate. You get the pets outta there, and get that animal away or get away from the animal. Sure, it should be a shame if the mother bear was hurt and couldn't help the cubs, but I'd much rather value my pets lives over a wild animal.
I can't be mad at the human mama or the bear mama in this situation. I'm so glad that no living creature was hurt.
Lol I love her. And her decision was more logical than people or even she herself is giving her credit for. She made a quick assessment that the bear was on very unstable footing and could not attack her from that position and acted with perfect timing and the right amount of force.

what a great story and just goes to show that people still posses a degree of instincts. She did not think about what she did, it was a split second response fired by a threat to family whom she loves. Just like the mama bear protecting her cubs from the dogs, she was protecting her dogs from the bear.

Two mama bear's protecting their babies: This girl is lucky the bear was on a wall however, and therefore had minimal balance, helping the bear fall back... giving just enough space for the situation to cool off. If that was flat ground, that could have ended very, very differently. Still, bravo to her for acting without hesitation; that definitely caused the bear to step off that wall!

I’m from neighboring Sierra Madre/Arcadi and this is part of the program. I now live in South O.C. beach town and Coyotes come out every night and are super healthy. Little Dogs and Cats go missing all the time. . They were here a long time before any of us. The Bear saw the Dogs as Food. Well done by this Warrior Princess. Standing her ground.
