I don't think that's accurate. I think animals know that humans really are supposed to help them but they know that humans have betrayed them and thus they are surprised to find humans doing what they should be doing. That's why animals who have never encountered humans come to them willingly and without fear because we are distinctly different from them and meant to be care takers of this world.
@@CandiceGoddard Most of their thought process is instinct based, pure survival. Although I'd like to think they're thinking the way you said. Humans should be the caretakers of the wild, since we've dominated the world.
The first pup with st Joseph’s shark attached definitely knew they were helping her! Although she was in pain and afraid… she knew!! I love watching these guys work❤

Thank you for doing what you do, any animal who is hurt in need is lucky when a animal hero like yourselves come there way even if they don't understand it at first.
I agree with the second part, but not with the first part, since a seal getting bitten by a shark isn’t really one of the mistakes of our race. However, this would of been accurate if this comment was on another one of the videos on this channel, since most of them were mistakes of our race.

@noobenstein Meh. It’s not bad to be for animal conservation at all. It’s a broad brush though to lump in good people with bad people. No need to be anti-human.
@@gordonlin6120 When did all resources belong to humans? He's very right. Yes, a lot of legal fisheries ensure conservation is met, hence why many fish, even Tuna, are farmed instead. But there are many illegal fishing ships that damage the ecosystem. The whole point of balance is give and take. We have enough agriculture to feed the populace, yet people still go out fishing illegally. Food isn't the issue, though. Money is.
I wish more people would watch these videos so they can be conscience about leaving fishing lines and nets on beaches and in water. Thank you guys for helping these sweet creatures. ♥️
I might be wrong but I think it’s a money/convenience thing, it’s easier and cheaper to cut and dump them than it is to recover and repair them, so they just cut them, it’s very common worldwide and it’s a major source of plastic in the ocean… not to mention tangling up everything
Most fishermen try to recover their tackle and only cut / break the line as a last resort. We pay good money for weights, swivels, hooks, and other tackle and don’t like losing it. Sometimes you can catch a fish and it will tangle you up in something on the bottom. You can’t get it free and end up breaking the line. If the fish is still on the other end this is sometimes how the seal ends up getting tangled. It goes after the fish. Not only did we lose money in our gear, but we lost our dinner too. Every time someone sees an animal in distress like this they automatically think and blame the fishermen. It’s rarely the fishermen’s fault. I’m not saying that there aren’t cases where some idiot tosses line in the water. But most of the time it can’t be helped.
It's just amazing how the young seal changed behavior after you took the shark barb out of it's neck. It realized you helped him and instantly ceased to be aggressive! That's amazing! //edit: What have I started? Guys, this wasn't even an all too serious comment. It seems I've involuntarily started a crusade.
I like how the seal with the shark in its neck didn’t immediately leave after you helped it. I’m guessing it took a liking to you for relieving it’s pain.
First the seal did not know he is being helped Second: That seal is probably in reduced mobility because of the poisoned barb on that shark. He didn't leave right away because of those two things rather than your own interpretation of things.
while what these folks are doing is great, it is harmful to anthropomorphize animals this way. the seal can't run, so it's standing its ground to defend itself. you can tell from the way it's posturing and showing its teeth.
@@mataschmata Second one was showing teeth, but first one wasn't. It wasn't even tense, more like confused and a bit wary, but not angry or afraid. We are animals ourselves, pretty much same feelings are shared in all pack animals. OTOH you can't always tell what animal is thinking by it's behavior, a yawn by a monkey is not sign of it being tired, it is showing it's teeth.

I can’t imagine how much it must sting for the seals to run into the salt water with open wounds. This is just so difficult to watch, even tho you guys are life savers. Thank you for the miracles you make happen.
It does sting but at least the main factor that is causing the cut is gone so now it can properly heal. Salt water is a disinfectant so it will heal fast. I had a cut once, didnt know about it, ran into the sea, stung like hell but healed in a day or two. Amazing stuff.
I think the deal might've been in pain all along. The barb wire might have been constantly irritating the seal too.But at least now the wound will heal. It was a necessary evil I guess.
most larger marine life secrete mucus on contact with sea water to coat injuries, keep sea water out, and promote clotting. the seal probably barely felt it for more than a few seconds
As a beginner at completing my practicum as a vet tech, I found this fascinating about the care people take for wild animals while monitoring a herd ( forgive the terminology). I admire the compassion taking on them to restrain the animal and control them in the most humane way, to assess and assist, if possible. I have dealt with dogs that were wicked and could take up to 3 people to restrain it, always with care, but they were dogs; meaning limited muscular response... predictable, and able to manage the most difficult animal. This is because we understand them and they have become completely domesticated. These seals are huge animals, with notable power, to move their weigh on land, and in sea. I am just saying, that what I viewed just now, was as completely contained and restrained capture for treatment. This did this in such a way to minimize stress to the patient.
@@simrdownmon6431 many wild packs of animals are monitored researched and helped in a similar way to these guy's with their seals. It's one of the best ways to get knowledge on what could be affecting other populous such as shared sicknesses or changes in diet. It can be hard to watch a scared animal be treated but it really is the best way to help them
Stuff like this really makes one question the sociological aspects of humanity, I see stuff like this quite often and it's amazing how humans can communicate and emotionally connect with animals while simultaneously being unable to achieve the same thing with other humans, just running along the beach and grabbing random seals to pull barbs out of them and not a single misunderstanding when you let them go, they all just waddle off okay with the whole encounter. I think ultimately it comes from the human tendency not to view other humans as animals and it overcomplicates interactions.
I hate to be that guy, but I would recommend trying to avoid unnecessary commas. This post was a little awkward to read. Don't take it personal though! I really liked what you had to say!
That first one that was growling when you got to it. Then, after you removed the barb and it realised you were there to help it, it stopped growling and just watched you, was really cool to see. While naturally still cautious it was clearly grateful for your help. 😊👍
He was obviously confused trying to figure out if he was in danger. I don't know if they are fully aware that they are being helped once the objects are removed. They must feel a relief afterwards and do they associate this relief with the benevolence of the human intervention ?
There are no words to express thank you🌈🙏❤️ I wish there was a vet on hand to take care of the really damaged area. Or at least a antibiotic spray. God bless you all for your love amd kindness 🥰
We have been advised by leading pinniped specialists that, unless we are able to keep the animal in a sanctuary for rehabilitation, we should avoid applying medicines on their wounds. The Cape fur seal goes straight to the water as soon as we release them, washing off any topical cream. Water resistant sprays may lock in bacteria and aggravate their injuries. We do not want to introduce drugs in a population of wild animals. We see healthy recaptures every single day, proof that sea water acts as a very efficient wound cleaner and healer, and that Cape fur seals are extremely resilient animals.
@@Antiteshmis They can obviously be categorised as most understanding to the least - Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Insects. But then food for thought- in India, during parched summers we have seen huge king cobras coming to humans for water year after year. Maybe some memory better in certain reptiles than others
@@Antiteshmis Familiarity and trust or even love, especially if sight/smell/manner imprinted from childhood for mammals - those lovey dovey videos of mammals remembering their benefactors even after decades attest to that. Young animals usually have to be taught for a while to be scared of humans. You can see how deeply ingrained it is into the bigger, older seal. The first one probably didn't see humans as as big of a threat, and when they made the pain stop, that totally fucked its perception of reality. I can't even imagine what was going through its brain after that, but going off its body language, it didn't seem scared.
These men are doing great work. Truly heartwarming. That said, unfortunate outcomes stem from every positive thing. Fishing is not just important it’s necessary. My biggest question in my search for a higher being is why he would allow all the suffering that has gone on for millions of years - horrible suffering and misery. I hope there is an answer, but, if there is, it has eluded me for decades.
@@Kaitri Not really sure I know what you mean. So, are you saying that the fact that there is so much suffering means there is no god, or at least there's not one who cares?
We say it all revolves around resources, people, and education whether it be science or experience, but who puts these people in the right place and the right time? Take for example the person who had an accident a few years back near mountainous/cliff areas and was lying there for 3 days without any treatment or help before someone found him, what kept him alive? Now another person has a similar accident or an even less serious one and he makes it to the hospital within minutes but does not survive, so is it our intellect and resources ultimately?

I don't think that's accurate. I think animals know that humans really are supposed to help them but they know that humans have betrayed them and thus they are surprised to find humans doing what they should be doing. That's why animals who have never encountered humans come to them willingly and without fear because we are distinctly different from them and meant to be care takers of this world.

@noobenstein lmao when did all fish belong to seals?
@noobenstein i truly cannot believe all the idiotic replies to your factual statement
So true

@@mataschmata Second one was showing teeth, but first one wasn't. It wasn't even tense, more like confused and a bit wary, but not angry or afraid.
Wow beautiful! Thank you so very much for this 🙏
@@simrdownmon6431 many wild packs of animals are monitored researched and helped in a similar way to these guy's with their seals.

This way, if the bag gets opened up at the landfill, the line doesn't become an entanglement risk for other animals. I keep a pocket knife in my pack just for this.
@@Angel-hm9so psst if you ever go to England check the size as if it’s too long then it’s illegal

2:25 That poor little guy went from wanting to eat you a minute earlier to wanting to hug you after you pulled the shark from it's neck.
That was great. His reaction after they pulled the shark off, he sat up and just looked around like, "Whoa, nice."
Oh my god 😢😢😢
That's so painful for the poor animal 😢😢😢😢
It couldn't even express it's pain😢😢😢
Thanks to some real life heroes like you that the poor speechless animals are being saved from dangers. Lots of love from Mauritius island ❤❤❤
