Can you imagine if they did this now? EIi's voice is even more powerful now. "OH Sherrie" is a Steve Perry solo song from 1984 or 1985. Also it would be so fun to have a camp for adults with Voice Play and Home Free.
That would be a camp I'd pay big bucks to attend!

I was gonna say, am I the only won who would love to see Voiceplay do new arrangements for a bunch of their earlier covers now with "Rock Tenor" Eli, "Five Plus Octave" Geoff, and Cesar? A lot of their earlier arrangements, based on what I've listened to (I haven't listened to all of Voiceplay's music) seemed to fall into the cliche trap of "Bass Singer Must Sing Only Bass And Not Be Allowed To Sing Lead." I have to admit, this is one of things that irks me about Home Free: the fact that they, often times, don't let Tim sing. Like, guys, he's probably got the widest range of the group and you're pigeon-holing him into only doing the bass line. Give him one verse per song, at least. Come On! Luckily Modern Voiceplay has pulled out of that trap with Geoff. And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that they started letting Geoff be the one to arrange a lot of their songs. Because, if you'll notice, in the songs he arranges, he always gives himself, at least, on verse and he likes to showcase his range. Again, something that their earlier "Earl Era" arrangements never did. And I think that made Layne sit up and go, "Oh Crap! Geoff Can SANG! Definitely gotta feature him more in my arrangements..." In fact, it would not surprise me in the least if Geoff not being afraid to showcase himself in his arrangements is what ultimately led to Layne practically begging Geoff to sing lead for his Hellfire arrangement.
I would say, chronologically, the first time Eli introduced grit was Panic In 4, which was 5 years ago. Not a ton, but it’s there. Then again a little bit later in Kiss. But his first real rock god Eli song was Carry On Wayward Son, which was a pivotal change in sound for the whole group, imo.
I haven't watched this in ages and forgot about the mash-up! As a pre-teen/teenager Journey was my group so I especially love this!
As you probably know by now, the song is "Oh Sherrie", a solo effort by Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, and it was released in 1984.

One of my reactors did this and surprise - she knew that camp counselor who was shooting pictures! When I first listened to this one by VoicePlay working and playing with these kids VP did it all for me. What great guys from the bottom of their hearts! Just Sing was used to help musicians that were having problems working through covid. The props and costumes that they auction off so kids without means still get a Christmas. I love them and always will.
And I love this one because it shows, again, what genuinely nice people these guys are!!
Don’t think you noticed in the little working video clips, it I’m pretty sure VP actually gave talks about working in the field to those campers.
Just wanna say, there ARE adult music camps, and local playhouses always need former drama kids who never grew up. I still play in an adult pep band, and a trombonist buddy of mine went to adult band camp last month. She said, "It's all the best parts about band camp, except with wine."

I've several times been a participant in a large group music camp/course (as an adult, but there were also a lot of teens). The feelings and emotions inspired by being a part of producing such a phenomenal group sound are indescribable.
I like how they come to a full stop after the words "don't stop". When arranging voce painting there are two ways you can handle it: either have the music lterally embody the meaning of the words, or have the music ironically do the exact opposite of the words. This is a wonderful example of doing it the ironic way.

Can't remember if you've checked out their Death of a Bachelor, it's my favourite one featuring Earl. So different. Some say that Eli changed with the full beard. Could be true! Is this the most joyous video they've ever done?
I'm not crazy about the song Death of A Bachelor but I love VP's version, especially with Geoff's parts. Fun detail: look at their feet. Earl wore white shoes that day, not knowing they were filming on a white background.
The brake down really is just 🤯and made a loop of just it omg so good.

I am a big Steve Perry fan. they have to do better then this to even meet Steve's perfection. I'll give them a plus for trying this song. May have been better with just one voice. Steve Perry is an Icon with a voice like an angel, strong with no thinning. It does look like they all had a lot of fun doing this.
