Sadly, the game was never released in the US at all, since Nintendo ended with “Wario’s Woods” as the last NES game ever made in the US, and the last unlicensed NES game was “Sunday Funday”, a religious clone of “Menace Beach”.

This is actually basically a hobbled port of the Game Boy version - down to the graphics still being stored in GB format and being converted to NES CHR format on the fly.
Personally I'm a Master System guy and it has my preferred version of the game, I can't say I've played the NES version, maybe I should to form a better judgement. Does anyone know why Capcom wasn't involved in making this game? They had already made most of Disney's games from that era, such as Aladdin, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck and Chip 'n Dale. I'm surprised the Lion King wasn't included.
They clearly were losing interest in Disney licenses at that point. Either that, or Virgin had the upper hand against them in getting this. Actually, the only thing they ever did with The Lion King was publishing the Japanese Super Famicom version of the Virgin game.

It's true that beyond 1995, Brazil still produced like some 20 exclusive games, most of them which were lazy Game Gear conversions (and about three unreleased titles intended for Europe), but it's funny how most people give merit to Brazil the fact that it got so much games beyond the end of the Japanese and North American markets, when I'm sure that if it wasn't for Europe, not so much games would have been produced and probably Brazil would have had to deal with it.
This looks bad indeed :) In Scandinavia this game is a holy grail cause it's very rare(the SCN Version) It was the last game released for the NES In Scandinavia, and Aladdin second last.
It's ironic how this game looks like a pirate whereas the pirate looks like a licensed game. I guess it is expected since it was time to give up the NES. Don't get me wrong, it looks bad, but that's because the game itself looks outdated in terms of console standards.

This looks like a bootleg game judging by the abysmal music and horrible graphics. There is a total of 6 levels and no cutscenes in between levels; meaning that you would not understand everything going on in the game unless you watched the movie. Simba lived the rest of his life in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa, Scar still ruled over the Pridelands, and somehow the game acts that Simba became the new ruler of the Pridelands with no proper final boss fight, unless Scar was a giant white ape. Really?
***** I couldn't believe it was made by the same people who made the SNES and Genesis versions.
