Wait a second... Vapes contain LOADS of glycerol! If there's a gene that causes glycerol to become toxic, is there a chance that anyone of any age potentially possessing such a gene who heavily vapes could start experiencing some degree of hypoglycaemia and dehydration similar to what the boys had, albeit considerably milder? I know it may seem a bit farfetched, but people haven't been actively inhaling heated glycerol for all that long, so I wonder if enough could potentially be absorbed to cause a level of intoxication...? Maybe the coffee machine knows...
sugar tax has shown numerous benefits for the health of children by drastically reducing obesity and pre-diabetis. who wouldve imagined that companies would rather quite literally directly poison children than pay a tad more for sugar.

Wow, i used to have slushies as a kid and never heard of this. Good to hear slushies puppies have removed glycerol. Thanks for informing us of all of the dangers
I gonna venture a guess that very very few children, at least those who weren’t undiagnosed diabetics, had such severe reactions to full sugar drinks not containing glycerol. It’s rather ironic that attempting to save children from sugar effectively poisoned them.
Hey, you, paranoid person watching this. Look, listen to me. *This will not happen to you. You will be okay. This is not normal, and it won’t happen to you. You can still enjoy slushies, it will be fine.*
I didn't know that slushies were a sugar-dropping drink, They were sold at my local cinema and they weren't any warnings listed on the machines. Thanks for this clever information i guess.
I used to drink 7/11 slushies and icees all the time when I was little. I never got sick from them though. Either I was older than 4 when I started drinking them or the regulated amount is different in Canada.
I don’t know where you got your info from but Warwickshire and Glasgow aren’t 3 miles away. It’s good the boys were both ok and this is disgusting that hey can put these things into items designed for children.
As an adult (well, ISH, I was technically 17), I had a similar but milder reaction to glycerol. I'm an insulin-dependant diabetic and the glycerol sent me into severe hypoglycemic shock. I couldn't stop trembling, was sweating PROFUSELY and my blood sugar dropped so low I couldn't get off the floor. Like, I could not even elevate my head. This was made especially bad as since slushies have a LOT of sugar (or glucose/fructose) in them, I had taken insulin before drinking it.
Wow! I kept my kid from slushies to avoid the high fructose corn syrup. We make our own slushies, at home. I didn't know about that other thing. Glad to stay away from it.
I got glycerol poisoning from a slushy a few days ago, the slushy syrup didn’t even have a warning for it containing that chemical, luckily its being recalled
Good news: the brand Snappy uses Glycol which has a different structure than glycerol. I wanted to be sure because I sell snow cones in my shop and the syrups are essentially the same.
It does actually have a very important role in metabolism. Which just goes to show that anything, even things you need to survive, can be dangerous if made too concentrated.
Just goes to show when you make alternative sweetners like aspartame the boogeyman in a country it won't stop manufacturers from using something even more toxic to replace it
That's not why it's in there, glycerol is not only a sweetener, but keeps it at that consistency. And glycerol definitely isn't more toxic (if aspartame is that toxic at all), it's a super important molecule that your body manufactures. It's essentially the main component of your cell membranes and is broken down in your body into glucose daily. But taken in large quantities it is used as a laxative, which in general can be unsafe for children - so definitely shouldn't be in a children's drink. They also mentioned there's this theory that some people may have a deficiency in the enzyme needed to break it down, and you won't know who until it happens (and children will be getting a bigger dose comparatively.) But yeah, not this scary super toxic thing food manufacturers pulled out their a because aspartame is getting a bad wrap lately.
@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 just because something is useful in the body like iron doesn't make it not toxic when found in an over abundance. As our body can make glycerol in order to form phospholipids for cell membranes, we do not need dietary sources of it. Part of my point is that Aspartame is actually not very toxic and has been made into a boogeyman. I understood that the glycerol was added to reduce the amount of sugar used due to laws specific to the UK and sugar content ( I checked 7/11 slurpee ingredients for several flavors in the USA and glycerol was not listed) but I may have misunderstood.
@sunshine4ndrainbows397 well I already explained. Literally everything is toxic in the right quantities. Aspartame is not very toxic, but MY point is that neither is glycerol. And in this case, glycerol is not being used in place of aspartame just because aspartame is in the media, glycerol was ALREADY being used in these drinks because it helps keep the consistency of the slushy. And yes, we don't need dietary sources of glycerol, but you get it when eating whole foods - everything with cells and fats, plants and animal alike. I'm not saying it's okay to use large amounts in foods/drinks that are advertised for kids, because I already explained it's danger - and so did this video. But it is not a boogieman ingredient to be afraid of all of a sudden. The same problem would probably occur if they put any sugar alchols in as a sweetener, since they all have laxative effects (so be careful giving sugar free sweets to kids).
Last time I saw a slushie machine, they literally just used 2-liter sodas as the mix and the machine made it slush. Anyway, the average person would be shocked at how many toxic things are allowed and how many "food defects" are allowed because it's considered "safe enough".
I haven't seen Slush Puppy since I was a little kid, in California I typically only see ICEE and Slurpee brand slushies. I think I would rather have Slush Puppy but honestly it's been a few years since I've even had one. Neat video though 😄👍
@EvelynSaungikar last time I checked most (looking at you red 40) food dyes are not cancer juice, also carrots are comically orange so should we not eat those? Let's stop eating leafy vegetables because they are very green also! Alot of plants are brightly colored, do we stop eating them? Bright colors in nature don't exactly mean poisonous, and there isn't much meaning to poisonous frogs being brightly colored other than predators learned to avoid those colors the most
@@Joseph_InTheDarkYes, and Annatto is a fruit used to make cheese orange and a lot of other foods. I’m allergic to it though and can’t have orange cheese or anything else with it in it. When they dye food with beta carotene from carrots, then I can have it.
Tbf, there are a lot of things that are technically considered toxic that are sold to people all the time (Alcohol being the big one), but yeah, in this case, it probably shouldn't be in there at all considering how heavily it's marketed towards children.

I imagine personal experience would tell you no, if you do vape a ton.
This is awful. These poor babies and their families….

As usual, legislators don't know what they're legislating on and people pay for it with their lives.
It’s an additive called Glycerol. Which I wouldn’t have known not to give under 4 year olds…
It’s used in baking as well
It does actually have a very important role in metabolism. Which just goes to show that anything, even things you need to survive, can be dangerous if made too concentrated.
I'm glad i haven't come across a food that made me extremely sick..... yet.
Hopefully, it never happens.
They also mentioned there's this theory that some people may have a deficiency in the enzyme needed to break it down, and you won't know who until it happens (and children will be getting a bigger dose comparatively.)
But yeah, not this scary super toxic thing food manufacturers pulled out their a because aspartame is getting a bad wrap lately.
neither aspartame or glycerol are toxic, so long you are not a toddler
Aspartame is bad for you.
HOORAY! It's been a while since Brew served us a happy ending. And it was a double.Very cool. But nontoxic.

It shouldn't be in food at all not "wait till they're 10"
Disagree a bit.
Forexample Honey is absurdly poisonous to babies/very small toddlers, but we become Immune very early
Tbf, there are a lot of things that are technically considered toxic that are sold to people all the time (Alcohol being the big one), but yeah, in this case, it probably shouldn't be in there at all considering how heavily it's marketed towards children.
food that is only for adults due to reasons like this then should be "wait till they're a 10"
