    I actually learned this from a weird source that was very responsible.
    We have a local liquor shop that serves only slushies that have in-house recipes, and they serve both alcoholic and nonalcoholic slushies. They use glycerol in all their slushies to keep them from melting despite the alcoholic content which lowers the melting point.
    They have an age minimum for the alcoholic slushies (21 yrs) and the nonalcoholic slushies (10 yrs).
    I was informed of it because I'm sober and the DD for my friends, so I buy the nonalcoholic slushies. They mentioned it at the register in case I was getting it for a kid.
    I wish more slushie sellers were required to explain this when you purchased one.

    • @Unknown_Genius
      @Unknown_Genius 2 месяца назад +8

      I mean, they're not required, most just tell it to you if there's an age restriction on something and you're buying it while there's a child around - just to make sure they said it.
      Well, and then you got those who don't care at all and even sell cigarettes to children, and no matter the potential trouble they get into they'll do it regardless.
      But I like how you can read out that you're american given the 21 years old for the alcoholic one - never understood why america got such a weird system with limiting alcoholics to 21 given the other decisions you're supposedly old enough for years prior.

    Wait a second...
    Vapes contain LOADS of glycerol! If there's a gene that causes glycerol to become toxic, is there a chance that anyone of any age potentially possessing such a gene who heavily vapes could start experiencing some degree of hypoglycaemia and dehydration similar to what the boys had, albeit considerably milder?
    I know it may seem a bit farfetched, but people haven't been actively inhaling heated glycerol for all that long, so I wonder if enough could potentially be absorbed to cause a level of intoxication...?
    Maybe the coffee machine knows...

    Just goes to show when you make alternative sweetners like aspartame the boogeyman in a country it won't stop manufacturers from using something even more toxic to replace it

    • @foolishlyfoolhardy6004
      @foolishlyfoolhardy6004 2 месяца назад +6

      That's not why it's in there, glycerol is not only a sweetener, but keeps it at that consistency. And glycerol definitely isn't more toxic (if aspartame is that toxic at all), it's a super important molecule that your body manufactures. It's essentially the main component of your cell membranes and is broken down in your body into glucose daily.
      But taken in large quantities it is used as a laxative, which in general can be unsafe for children - so definitely shouldn't be in a children's drink. They also mentioned there's this theory that some people may have a deficiency in the enzyme needed to break it down, and you won't know who until it happens (and children will be getting a bigger dose comparatively.)
      But yeah, not this scary super toxic thing food manufacturers pulled out their a because aspartame is getting a bad wrap lately.

    • @jim3998
      @jim3998 2 месяца назад +2

      neither aspartame or glycerol are toxic, so long you are not a toddler

    • @sunshine4ndrainbows397
      @sunshine4ndrainbows397 2 месяца назад +2

      @foolishlyfoolhardy6004 just because something is useful in the body like iron doesn't make it not toxic when found in an over abundance. As our body can make glycerol in order to form phospholipids for cell membranes, we do not need dietary sources of it. Part of my point is that Aspartame is actually not very toxic and has been made into a boogeyman. I understood that the glycerol was added to reduce the amount of sugar used due to laws specific to the UK and sugar content ( I checked 7/11 slurpee ingredients for several flavors in the USA and glycerol was not listed) but I may have misunderstood.

    • @wrenbyrd1093

    • @foolishlyfoolhardy6004
      @foolishlyfoolhardy6004 2 месяца назад +1

      @sunshine4ndrainbows397 well I already explained. Literally everything is toxic in the right quantities.
      Aspartame is not very toxic, but MY point is that neither is glycerol. And in this case, glycerol is not being used in place of aspartame just because aspartame is in the media, glycerol was ALREADY being used in these drinks because it helps keep the consistency of the slushy.
      And yes, we don't need dietary sources of glycerol, but you get it when eating whole foods - everything with cells and fats, plants and animal alike. I'm not saying it's okay to use large amounts in foods/drinks that are advertised for kids, because I already explained it's danger - and so did this video. But it is not a boogieman ingredient to be afraid of all of a sudden. The same problem would probably occur if they put any sugar alchols in as a sweetener, since they all have laxative effects (so be careful giving sugar free sweets to kids).

    I haven't seen Slush Puppy since I was a little kid, in California I typically only see ICEE and Slurpee brand slushies. I think I would rather have Slush Puppy but honestly it's been a few years since I've even had one.
    Neat video though
    😄👍

    I think there should be warnings when you buy a slushy. 🤨🥤😢❓

      Look at the colours though. Nothing that colour should go in your body, it’s the reason poison frogs are those colours.

      There is, but no one reads those things. I actually learned about this when someone explained it to me at the register when I purchased one.

      @EvelynSaungikar last time I checked most (looking at you red 40) food dyes are not cancer juice, also carrots are comically orange so should we not eat those?
      Let's stop eating leafy vegetables because they are very green also!
      Alot of plants are brightly colored, do we stop eating them? Bright colors in nature don't exactly mean poisonous, and there isn't much meaning to poisonous frogs being brightly colored other than predators learned to avoid those colors the most

      @@Joseph_InTheDarkYes, and Annatto is a fruit used to make cheese orange and a lot of other foods. I’m allergic to it though and can’t have orange cheese or anything else with it in it. When they dye food with beta carotene from carrots, then I can have it.

    We really need to have better regulations on food.

      Disagree a bit.
      Forexample Honey is absurdly poisonous to babies/very small toddlers, but we become Immune very early

      Tbf, there are a lot of things that are technically considered toxic that are sold to people all the time (Alcohol being the big one), but yeah, in this case, it probably shouldn't be in there at all considering how heavily it's marketed towards children.

      food that is only for adults due to reasons like this then should be "wait till they're a 10"
