    I am an antique dealer, and have always had mixed feelings about private people's personal possessions coming up as auction items, but seeing your love for Marilyn and how much her makeup inspires you, it seems clear to me that collectors like you are the perfect people to be the caretaker's of an icon's belongings. There's so much potential for exploitative behaviour and avarice out there, it always seemed important to be that these things were cherished, and it's so rare and lovely to see that in the antique world.

    • @erinparsonsmakeup
      @erinparsonsmakeup  Год назад +531

      I collect vintage makeup so it all belonged to someone somewhere. I also wear vintage clothes. I guess everything, the antiques you deal, probably belonged to someone who has now passed, perhaps just less well known. I feel we should appreciate history - it’s great what you do because you put something beautiful in the hands of someone that will appreciate it like you do, like the previous owner did. I do feel precious about all the items I have but Ofcourse Marilyn has a huge special place in my psyche ☺️

      @Erin Parsons Makeup As a fellow lifelong lover of vintage items, yes, some people feel strange about purchasing things that belonged to a now deceased person... I stick by the sentiment that it is honoring and giving new life and love to something special. It wouldn't be available to buy if a family member wanted it. I have jewelry, clothing, furniture, etc, all saved from landfills because I saw the same special aspect the original owners most likely did, thus creating a connection to the past and keeping their treasures safe and loved. One of my favorite finds is a handmade leopard print coat that came with matching bellbottoms! I just miss 90's thrift store prices!

    What a fabulous video! I used to have a massive collection of books, fun stuff, that were a tribute to Marilyn. Never had any treasures like you do. I’m so glad these items are being loved and preserved. To me, Marilyn was inspirational. Came from nothing but her talent, beauty, and hard work made her legendary. Yet I always had the feeling any of us could have sat down and had a conversation with her she seemed approachable. I love seeing her makeup. As a makeup junkie, it’s if interest, but knowing these belonged to Marilyn, holy grail!! I’m in the midst of redecorating my bathroom where I do my makeup, and making it to be a homage to Marilyn.

    Gosh I love this so much. I have been a super fan of Marilyn since I was little, likely because I was named after her. As a young adult (19), I became a makeup artist and I have studied her makeup inside and out just like you. I began collecting vintage makeup about 10 years ago. Since I know I could never afford anything in Marilyn’s collection, I search for items that were in her kit. That’s the closest I’ll ever get. It is fascinating to watch this video and see things up close and see someone so deserving, own pieces that were once hers. I love that real people are given the opportunity to have a little piece of her.

    I'm not a makeup person, as in like I wear makeup. However, I'm very intrigued by the beauty industry and always amazed when I see someone like yourself take makeup and show your love, and true artistry of and for it. I've been following you for a tiny bit now since I came across your channel. And I think the way you talk about makeup and beauty in general, and how to you it's not just a casual hobby. But, your true love and admiration and respectfulness of it is amazing. Because even in the case of how you talked about Marilyn Monroe, I feel I got from you it's not about having her makeup so you can use it..but how you truly admired her, and how makeup was a big part of her looks. And you wanna preserve her image and the legacy of the makeup, instead of just tarnishing it and I think that's something to be extremely admired.
    And I loved your collection video (which is how I came across you awhile back. An algorithm recommended your channel so I had to explore).

I especially appreciate that you don't treat her legacy as a commodity and really focus on her as a human being, a woman who faced plenty of adversity and hardships. Her story is fascinating and far too many want too associate themselves for nefarious self promoting reasons. With you, its clear the admiration and respect are real.
