Beaver Dam Removal | Unclogging 4 drains

- Doing the Saturday morning drain cleaning route. Today we go to a new location to remove a board from a culvert resulting in a great water flow. Also presented with a heavy log obstacle that needed the aid of the 4-wheeler to pull it out as well as an unexpected whirlpool.

That big log really fought me. Be sure to catch the next video when I am properly geared for getting in the water!
Well if you weren't able or willing to get wet, awkward and difficult were pretty much guaranteed, huh?
@@jakesmerth1919 aside from the water being near freezing temp, I was willing, just not equipped on that day.
You raise a lot of corn
@@danielcrawley8407 just depends on the year, last year was none, year before was quite a bit.
If I had been in your shoes, that whole section of the video would be beeped out. Even watching it, I was cussing on your behalf! 🤣
Post 10 would have the waders
Thanks for the video today. Great progress made. See you on the next!😊
Thank you!
@@BarrettFarms I’ve seeing on Post 10’s channel a site in Massachusetts where they’ve installed a triangular “trash rack” that the beavers can only build around and easily can be cleared if you’re in the water
@@davidscott3792 I think it will make a huge difference being able to get in the water. Some of them it's just hard to reach. The triangle grate sounds like a good idea!
That is a lot of water! Great job. Cheers from Canada's Capital 👍
Thank you!
Man, use could use Post10’s help. This is right up his alley.
I suppose if you count his content, he has helped a bit. I definitely picked up some tips and such from it. He's knowledgeable on this subject for sure!
I have done a lot of this in my life. Always amazed how tight leaves, twigs & debris packs in so tight with an inch or more of rain. It builds quite an appetite removing & nap after.
It sure does!
Post 10 would probably like this video
You've done a great job 👏 👍
Thank you!
Have you seen the Triangular Trash Rack that Massachusetts uses to stop beavers from clogging their culverts? Best idea out there, multiple videos of it on Post 10's channel. If the water overflows, it acts as a spillway. That way you don't have to worry about the way the beavers are blocking your fence like devices with the square gaps.
I'll check it out.
I was watching one of your older videos where a commenter asked why the beaver didn't reuse the materials. It is believed that even though it's there, the beavers think those materials are defective since they didn't hold the dam so they won't reuse it.
Beavers certainly don't cut corners. They seem to have their process they follow for sourcing and storing food and supplies and don't deviate from it just to save a little time. They are also quite intelligent and very cautious of things humans do like setting traps and piling up sticks.
So enjoyable Thank you from Oahu Hawaii🌴🍍🌺🤙🏽🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
That looks like a full time job braking those dams up
As long as the beavers are around it is definitely a daily task!
you just need a good beaver trapper ,it will never stop
True, although beavers will sometime move on if they get tired of being messed with, its rare. Trapping is about the only way to really address them.
Very nice work!
Thank you!
Awesome vid as always x
Thank you!
May I suggest you use something like a magnet fishing hook( or something like it) tied to rope to pull leaves out that you can't reach. Possibly add some weight to loosen dirt. I am sure on the farm you have something to rig up👍
Well done on all the work you have done
Next time I hope to be suited up and in the water and have better reach. That might be good idea though for some of those places where I can't get in. Thanks for watching!
@@BarrettFarms good luck and stay safe.👍
Nice farm and nice video from North Carolina
Thank you!
Where are you all at

good job 👍👍
Thank you!
Perhaps if you figured a way to make or find a way to get a metal framework aspect to lay across the top of the structure to be able to stand on for better leverage of the larger side of your structure to help...
That would be really helpful indeed
It's too bad you stopped filming the whirlpool, those are always fun to watch for a good long while
I bet I will get it again next time. I'll try and get more of it.
Add a shovel and a logger’s hook to your equipment!
Shovel is generally useless due to the way beavers build. The loggers hook, though, that might be handy.
He nearly fell in while trying to move that big log now that would have been funny as hell and worth watching
I've nearly fallen in a dozen times, keep watching as it's bound to happen someday!
You were not giving up on this one. Great job
I wish there was a contraption there that would automatically remove debris. One day if there's a major rain storm it can cause major problems
If people would only understand that if you put Culver’s in a wooded location that there would be potential for leaves and sticks to block the path of the water flow through it or possibilities for a beaver to block it so prepare yourself for that situation
The beaver who has blocked the drain griddle will go in berserker rage. But the guy who has destroyed the beaver's dam will be congratulated. But there are three more drains to unclog. Difficult but not impossible.
You said it wasn't a beaver dam so how does mother nature pack the leaves and stick debris with mud after clogging it up with leaves ?
Not sure off hand without going back and watching but I would guess I was talking about one of the far west grates. Those are the two that a couple months ago that seemed like they were mainly clogging with debris in the water and the beavers didn't have to do much. I am sure they contributed a little but nothing like they do at the other dam sites. The colony has probably grown as the activity we see at all the locations is the work of beavers.
You need chest high waders
How did that board get there? Looks like it was put there intentionally. Or maybe it just happened to get blown there.
My guess is intentionally put there by people who wanted to hunt one of the nearby fields and was intended to hold back water and flood a field. No biggie but the responsible thing to do is promptly remove it when the season is over. That usually doesn't happen.
Secondo me con un rastrello piu piccolo il lavoro veniva meglio...scherzo. ottimo lavoro💪💪👍👍
Your back must hurt the next day.
Usually my back is fine but my knees not so much.
Мне интересно у них там вилы не производят что ли? 🤣 Какой то тяпкой постоянно ковыряют.
Que Estado es de USA?
Hola estoy en Arkansas.
You need to get longer boots an get up in their
Yeah, this was early on and I was ill equipped to do the job, tools and skill wise. A couple moths after this you see me in the water in chest waders. I will mention, I am in the south and during the warm months I generally stay out of the water due to some of the reptiles we have around here. Thanks for watching!
Et voilà ce qui arrive quand on n'entretient pas annuellement le réseau d'évacuation des eaux.
What is all over the lens
Not uncommon to get water and mud splashes on the camera, without going back and watching, I would guess that's the case here
Надо было белый костюм одеть
Sorry, where is the beaver?
In their lodges when we are around. I am deploying some trail cams and hope to capture some of their activities soon.
We used to blow up real beaver dams in creeks for irrigation using tnt fun!!!
That does sound like fun!
Owning a backhoe works better than that hand rake that you are using
Dad tells me we will have one on the farm soon. Personally, I would rather all culvert cleaning be done manually with the rake. The ditches definitely need some work the a backhoe will be a great help with.
You know if you would get rid of some of those trees along the creek you wouldn’t have so many leaves and broken branches jamming up around your drainage pipes
Yep, it's a work in progress. Something we work on in the cooler weather.
Please clean the lens
Sorry about that, didnt notice. By the time I get to the last drain everything is filthy so I should have know to check.
goes to prove these cages don't work.
They don't stop them from building, but they do change the way they build and help keep the dam and debris out of the pipe... most of the time, not always.
I THINK THEY SENT THE WRONG PERSON TO CLEAR DRAINS, NEED SOMEONE WHO IS NOT AFRAID OF GETTING WET / DIRTY
Thanks for watching Bob, hope you have a great week!
