    Every Maiden song is an adventure story or reference to history or historic event. The group has been together now for over four decades. Bruce Dickinson, the band lead singer, is somewhat of a historian although most of the songs are written by Steve Harris the bassist. Bruce is also an accomplished commercial airline pilot, the band has their own brand of beer, their own video game, etc. Keep exploring the band, there is lots of cool stuff to discover. React first time with us, and listen to the studio versions after your reactions to keep them pure. Rock on bruh!

    • @igorcort
      @igorcort 7 месяцев назад +3

      Dickinson is recognized as a historian for some songs such as Powerslave or Revelations.
      But Harris has many more, like. Rime of the ancient mariner. Alexander the great. Or Where eagles dare.

    "Hallowed be thy name" is also a key line in "The Lord's Prayer".... probably a popular prayer that many a condemned pray before they are put to death.

  • @erikthompson619

    Did you notice that famous "gallop" groove that Iron Maiden are known for? Bassist Steve Harris, the band's leader and composer of most of their songs - including this one - loves to write in order to make his basslines go really fast and busy in a "tagga-dum, tagga-dum" way, and the resulting groove makes Iron Maiden very distinguishable from other bands. Next time you listen to this or any other song by them, listen out for that bass groove and I'm sure you'll pick up on it immediately. To my understanding, you rap guys know a little something about rhythm ;-)
    And yeah, big concerts can be intimidating, but biased as I am, I have heard from outsiders as well that metal concerts, even big ones (and Iron Maiden draw HUGE crowds) are still pretty comfortable to be around, since us metal folk at concerts are all about being one big family joining to share a common passion, and if you're there as a newcomer we want to take care of you so that uneasiness, shyness or fear don't prevent you from having the same fun that we're having. At least that's the European way, to my understanding metal culture is not nearly as prominent in the US as here overseas, but I'm cautiously optimistic that US metalheads share the same attitude and whenever you feel up to the task, you can attend your first metal concert knowing that you will be looked after and made to feel welcome as a new arrival to the community. We are all brothers and sisters of metal!

      I agree with everything you said particularly about Steve and Maiden's trademark galloping bass lines. I've watched many reaction channels and many have been black Americans that grew up with mainly hip hop, rap and RnB and they immediately vibe with a lot of classic metal bands especially bands like Maiden where the Bass is very prominent because like you said people with rap backgrounds know a good flow and rhythm when they hear it.

    Fun fact: Bruce Dickinson is a literal example of a polymath (someone with a lot of knowledge in a lot of areas). Not only is he a lead singer (who got throat cancer and came back to sing better than ever), he's also a pilote who flies Ed Force One (the band's private jet), a fire safety instructor, a member of the British national fencing team, has several honorary degrees, published author, radio host, and had a direct hand in the creation of Iron Maiden's own brand of beer, Trooper.

The singer is flying the huge airliner for the bands tour. They show him flying at the beginning of the music video. Its so impressive how good they sound 2 and a half decades later. And the crowd is like 3 dif generations of fans. There are 20yr olds to 50yr olds in the crowd. Fimed in Toronto Canada. Packed auditorium.

    Great reaction.
    Iron Maiden's studio stuff is great, but those bands who succeeded in the early 80s did so despite being banned from radio airplay. Their success came from live shows and selling cassettes in the parking lot. Hence, live is always where they truly shine.
    I often find that people with a strong appreciation for r'n'b / hip hop understand what makes Maiden great. Bass player Steve Harris is the primary song writer and has that strong galloping bass lines; singer Bruce then drops bars about life, religion, society and real history

    Its funny that during the 80's there were all these different tribes of people that liked different music genres, heavy metal, punk, pop, soul, ska, blues, rock and roll, new wave etc, but then there was hardly any cross over, you may get your head kicked in by your mates if you liked any different style. it took the start of rave and the acid house scene at least in the U.K. to break down these barriers, and people opened up to enjoy different genres of music.

    I’ve been a maiden fan my entire life. Whenever I fire up a tune like this it makes me really wonder…..do modern kids really prefer modern music or have they just not heard musical masterpieces like this..
