      Just a little seldom stated fact about the title that "Bulls on parade is a reference to police in riot gear rushing unarmed protestors like bulls using force to control you. Some songs you should check out now for your rage binge, Darkness of greed, Sleep now in the fire, Calm like a bomb, No Shelter, Guerilla Radio, Freedom. Genovevo De La O was a General in the Mexican Revolution. He was a solid soldier and a great fighter who won many battles for the liberation of Mexico. Also he was one of the main reasons the Zapatista movement continued to fight after Zapata was murdered. Small role, big impact kinda guy.

      @@susiejo143 I don't think it's about formal education. It's like in the lyrics that the libraries have become mind cemeteries because they've removed the books that tell a narrative they don't like. That's not the education you need. Educated, here, means you know what's going on -- you're able to see past the culture wars and see the people financially benefiting from war while our fellow workers go homeless or can't afford other basic necessities.
      IMO, somebody with a formal education likely has just as hard a time seeing through the smoke to what's actually going on than someone without. We need to be educated about the lies and justifications for the terrible things our government and private corporations do, and the relationship between them.

    Not long after I really listened to the words and message.

    (Stock market) Bulls on (military) parade
    De La O = mexican revolutionary and then governor of Morales
    "Terror reigns"= both...Zach is a master of the double entendre (this is why everyone says to follow the lyrics)
    "Rally round the Family, pocket full of shells" = I've heard this interpreted a few ways. The 2 most viable are either:
    1: A diss on Republicans claiming to be the "party of family" while promoting war. Or
    2: (My fave) a warning to the masses derived from the phrase, "go far enough left and you'll want your guns back"
    "They don't gotta burn the books they just remove 'em" = burned or removed, the first books on that list are always politically far left.
    There's also some bold iconography in the music video. (Notably a red flag on a greyscale scene of people climbing a hill)
    Another solid reaction ✊🏽❤️
    "Know you're enemy" or " "Take the power back" next please.

    • @JPindanga
      @JPindanga 11 месяцев назад +2

      not northamerican and native english speaker but as far is i know see and read, bulls on parade also means "cops are comin" some kind of black panthers slang or somethin, sorry but i'm brazilian but that it's what i heard and make total sense based on RATM's and Zach's stories.

    • @richardlandrum1966
      @richardlandrum1966 11 месяцев назад +5

      @JPindanga They have 3 major themes.
      1: Calling out systemic racism and police brutality
      2: Anti-imperialism and accurate history, and
      3: Anti-capitalism.
      With the context of the rest of the lyrics, this song is definitely in the anti-capitalist group.....but those 3 themes go hand in hand, and Zach loves the double entendre, so it's likely both.
      In other songs, more directed at police (killing in the name, down rodeo) I would absolutely agree....but (stock market) bulls on (military) parade is an often overlooked metaphor, and the line "Weapons, not homes......" makes this about more than just cops coming.
      Edit: Systemic racism, Imperialism, and Capitalism are the 3 evils in Martin Luther King jr.'s 1967 speech, "3 evils of society". Its a good listen

    A little conversion for you - "they rally round the family, with a pocket full of shells" - 'They' are the police and authorities 'rally round the family' the family is people in charge of society, tradition, old money, 'with a pocket full of shells' refers to the authorities reserving the right to violence for themselves, they kill at will and justify it later, 'Bulls on Parade' is a reference to the columns of black police SUV's that rolled through the neighbourhood when they raided somewhere...

    • @ramirezj7267
      @ramirezj7267 11 месяцев назад

      I always wondered where the title of the song stems from. Thanks. In addition I think that the "rally 'round" line also gives me the sentiment that "they" ("The authorities") can use weapons and arms in small numbers to rally and control the masses. It brings to mind a literal un armed family being gathered at gunpoint. It can fit so many actual scenarios regardless of time or culture. A reference to a sad truth.

    • @Iyanden1432
      @Iyanden1432 10 месяцев назад

      This line always makes me think of how politicians will make themselves out as family oriented people with good values and family views, literally they “Rally round the family” then their actions are completely contrary to that with wars, bombing, terror propaganda etc.. “ The pocket full of shells” … So they say one thing to get in office then do the exact opposite.

    Thanks for doing this reaction your reaction/analysis made my day.
    My favorite Rage song is "Renegades of funk." It's an amazing cover and the official music video is like a three minute time line of some of the all time great influencers, in terms of music, politics and human rights.
    Keep up the great content.

      Did you know America has arms warehouses all over the world. But their biggest one, by far, is in Israel.
      Do you know how quickly the prison cells of Israel, fill?

    I’m with you on CRT… they’re not scared their kids will be ashamed to be white, they’re scared their kids will be ashamed of them. Back in the 80’s and 90’s “family values” was the favorite phrase of most politicians, especially conservative ones so I thought the chorus was pointing out the hypocrisy of family values when you’re pushing war and guns. I could be wrong. I loved your reaction. You really get what they’re saying and you catch even little double entendres I missed despite being a fan for decades. I’ll definitely be back. Really enjoyed watching.

    Rally round the family with a pocket full of shells, referencing the military industrial complex and how politicians will “rally” round “family values” all the while waging war, making weapons of mass destruction, sending young men off to war etc etc.

    “Voice Of The Voiceless;” “The Ghost Of Tom Joad” (cover of Bruce Springsteen;) “Testify;” “No Shelter;” “Freedom;” “Year Of The Boomerang.”
    Also, checkout Saul Williams’ “Act III Scene 2 (Shakespeare)” feat. Zack De La Rocha. And, I’ll recommend Saul Williams’ cover of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” feat. Trent Reznor (NIN.)

    In my opinion, Zack is an old-soul poet who also raps. As someone else here commented, good on ya for taking the time to break down and really think about his lyrics. His bars are deep with many layers of meaning that can be inferred. I've been listening to them for roughly 30 years now and I'm still able to find new nuances or subtle hints at the ways he ties things together. As I read somewhere else, the great thing about Rage is that, 30 years later, the music is still relevant. The bad thing about Rage is that, 30 years later, the music is still relevant.

    school book bans in the 2022-2023 school year, and found 3,362 book bans affecting 1,557 unique titles, with more than 40% of the bans occurring in Florida.

    • @billsmith8825
      @billsmith8825 6 месяцев назад

      Most of those books that are banned are basically gay child porn or books that push radical leftist theories like communism and critcal race theory.
      The book called This Book is Gay teaches young boys how to use the website Grindr to contact adult gay males for sex. I would hope you don't want that in elementary schools..or even high schools.
      They still teach black history, just not critical race theory.. which purports that you have to look at everything through the lens of race, which is very divisive, and not something want to teach our children.
      It teaches that white people are the oppressors and black people are the oppressed. That's not something you want to teach children in an age where we all have equal rights under the law. It gets better every year and there's no reason to divide us further.

    In my opinion they’re saying “they rally around the family with a pocket full of shells” is talking about how politicians talk about family values but enact policies of violence worldwide and continually.
