James, just up the coast is Winterton-on-Sea. There are Norfolk Round Houses that you can stay in. The beach and dunes are great. Some of the 'Dads Army' programme was filmed in the area.
If you go to tourist Information and ask for details of the town wall you can explore the medieval town wall or just go and find it. Some of it is at the side of Sainsburys car park, a good place to start maybe?
Brilliant, you should go to Norwich and Wroxham on the Broards. Norwich is amazing and take a Boat tour on Broards. They do a tour of Cathedral that you can probably record. My sister lives near by if you wanna Park up.
Roy’s town ! 😀 I know it so so well, done Broads Tour many times plus Mississippi Boat at Horning, where my ex sister in law owned a tea shop on the Staithe where I stayed so many times. Such a wonderful place
Glad you liked it. Living in Norwich its alway been my go too seaside spot. The beach next door at Gorleston on Sea is worth a look. North Norfolk is another place that's worth a trip, very picturesque.
I’m Frumptarn mesen, and we regularly went to Yarmouth. It’s a big part of my childhood. Loved it then and still do now. Excellent vlog as usual, and nice to see you enjoyed it
Great to see you in Norfolk! Yarmouth is a classic English seaside town. It's a shame you didn't get to experience some of the coast line further up in north Norfolk
Was there recently on a bank holiday weekend and did not come away with a good impression - it's amazing what a bit of sunshine and about 1/6th as many people does for a place. Now I wouldn't mind going back!
I watch Walk With Me Tim. It’s his hometown, so has featured Great Yarmouth quite a lot. It really looks a great place for a family holiday, or even just a short break. Really enjoyed your take on it.👍
Thanks for sharing your visit to Gt Yarmouth. I lived there for 23 years. Saw many changes. Now live in West Sussex near Chichester. Some great beaches down this way too. Thanks again Mike
I used to stay in the Hopton holiday park not too far from Gorleston. Back then, you can walk from Hopton to Gorleston via the beach. Not sure if you can do so now since they've been placing boulders on the more vulnerable areas in order to combat the coastal erosion. Great Yarmouth is a great place to spend a few days. You certainly don't realise how much you do walk. Great vid, good sir. Always good to see these places again.
Surely it'd be better for businesses to slash their prices to get people through the turn styles. I'm not talking about people selling goods, I mean places like the pirate golf and the model village. Those prices would put me off but half it and I'd be in. I'm sure thousands of others think the same way. It's better to have 500 people paying five quid than 50 people paying ten quid.
I've known Yarmouth since 1954 and each decade a little bit of it disappears, like....South Dene's caravan site stretching from harbour mouth to the pleasure beach...The waxworks...The ferry service to the Netherlands...all the department stores...the vibrant outdoor market with the chip stalls...The pleasure beach when it was free admission & Wellington pier when it had show's ( were the fish and chips cooked in oil or beef dripping) nice vlog by the way 👍
@@bythecurb But saying that if folk's are going for the 1st time it makes no difference. Still plenty to do & see and when the sun's shining it's still a cracking resort.
We had fantastic holidays when l was a kid in the 60s, have not been for 15yrs ,because it was so different worn down unloved , maybe l will go back one day 😊
Happy memories of visiting Great Yarmouth when the kids were young, always really enjoyed it. Loved going to the circus and the shows at the pier theatre
Mate btw saltburn is my favourite and local beach to go too wish I bumped into you..I was there Saturday and was absolutely packed as hottest day of year...also the pier in chippy probably the best at saltburn..it’s expensive but worth it
I went today , unfortunately the Corner Fish and Chips restaurant couldn't serve us because it was out of season and so they didn't have any food ready ,and whilst the beach is really nice the town centre and shops are terrible , lots of dodgy people wandering around ,avoid !
So, I'm a US citizen, but also dual UK citizen (my mother and her family are from London/Kent area). Last time i was over in the UK was 2006 (so at this point, the longest I've gone without a visit back). Spent much time over there as a kid visiting grandparents & family, and lived over there for a bit as a younger adult - would visit every few years pre 2006 (when my daughter was born, and my UK granny died). I used to love the holidays we'd take on the coast growing up - mostly the south coast and Cornwall. TBH I have no desire to go back and visit London, but I'd love to explore the parts of England I've never visited. Your videos have given me an idea to rent a van and do a month of UK "van life" travel. Looks like it could be a cheaper option than hotels/AirBnB and coach/car rental/train travel - and I could see much more. Going to investigate the possibilities! Thanks for the videos mate! All the best to you and Helen.
Great vlog again James totally agree about pubs was in the other night tennis on one tv football on another and bloody jukebox playing looks a lovely place Great Yarmouth
Looks smashing 😊 As a fellow Midwife I can imagine Helen is very busy in September it being around 9 months since Christmas 🎅She’ll be ready for a break
Big man as i said before i look forward to you uploading a new production lol , as it happens i have just returned form a week in Hemsby just North of Great Yarmouth with the Grand Kids , your right the beach there is perfect , where are you off too next ? you Yorkshire guys are almost as tight as us jocks lol my pockets are so deep when i have my hand in there i can scratch my ankles lol , you are also a very lucky man your lady is also so funny i love too watch the interaction between you two it is so funny , see you soon James
We love seeing u not jus Helen lol wat a lovely full time job you have see some beautiful places really liked the flint walls on church loads of history omg could almost taste those fish an chips could hear crunch with fish so yummy X glad u had a good day and loved that you took us with you ❤😊
Been to Great Yarmouth, once was enough! However that was one of your best vids, Why? Because you didn't add any music but let us hear the local sounds. Please do that more often.
I loved Great Yarmouth as as kid,I thought it was the best place in the world. Hot doughnuts on the pier in the rain on my summer holidays. Great video ,thanks James.
Try Thorpeness it’s a little village on the Suffolk coast it’s like something from a fairy tale it’s a beautiful place I’d say your be better of going to Southworld instead of Lowestoft I think your going to be rather disappointed with Lowestoft maybe try Southworld instead then travel down to Thorpeness and you could go into Aldeburgh afterwards which is only a couple of miles from Thorpeness 😎
Have been to Gt Yarmouth many times in the past but it out last visit was a disaster ! The hotel called The Gable End didn't help as it needed a good clean.
It is not as bad as some but it has for a long time, ( or that east coast and it's surround ) had a massively higher unemployment and crime rate than the rest of Norfolk - at times, as high as Middlesbrough area in terms of unemployment. Notorious for attacking ner do wells. Many people's only experiences there end badly. No way at Blackpool levels but it is a declined Victorian resort and declined port and fishing port. There were mooted plans back in the 90s to build a ferry terminal to Europe there and revitalisation plan but cheap flights ended that idea I guess. It has it's charms. The Wellesey Road Spots ground is where Great Yarmouth Town FC play, it has the last remaining orginal Grandstand at a football ground, so a lot of football tourists go there. It is magnificent and a grade listed building. Yarmouth deserves a club that play at a higher level, like Kings Lynn. The Grandstand was closed in the early 00s due to disrepair and safety concerns. With Lottery funding, many appeals, meaning a stop start process to renovate it, eventually, ten years after closing, it was reopened. The club have only had two grounds, first for a few years until in the 1880s, moved to the Wellsey Stadium, that used to have bike race meets, athletics and various other sports - have some of that Wrexham, oldest and I think ONLY Grandstand still at a football club.
Oddly enough James we teavelled down from Rhyl to Great Yarmouth on Sunday for the week, I did think it was your van I spotted on the prom. We had a trip to Lowestoft today and off to Hunstanton tomorrow.
The ‘church’ was the largest parish church in England. It’s now a minster. As you left the grounds,on your left is a White House with vertical black beams. This was the birth place of Anna Sewell author of Black Beauty.
Love Yarmouth, my parents took our family there every year and we all wanted to go back the following year, I will always have a soft spot the place, so glad you enjoyed it mate and thank you for sharing this fantastic vlog 👍
Good to see Great Yarmouth again the place is looking well, spent some time on the construction of that power station just there behind the van lifers location, some great times and worked with a great bunch of lads
Hi James, I used to take my girlfriend to Great Yarmouth most Sundays, great place to go when you are in your teens. We have now been married over 49 years. If you are down this way again try Sheringham. It's completely different to Yarmouth but has some nice independent shops and a steam railway oh and some pubs. We alway have fish & chips in the Trawler opposite the clock tower. Like the videos when Helen takes you on a 10 mile hike.
I do love fish and chips, but refuse to pay the current prices. I am not a fan of McDonalds, but for example, a large Big Mac meal with drink and fries is £5.99. These fish and chips with water are double that. I am thinking about making my own fish and chips, haven't done it for years but I still have a deep fat fryer that has barely been used and has been sat in a cupboard for years.
Hi james I wouldn't want too be a fire fighter down that narrow street ginnel, those f&Cs looked champion bit off putting being empty. If that was magpie @whitby they'd be queuing around the corner.great vlog once again.
Always looking forward to see a new Vid James and Helen, but we rerun the ones you have already done, loved them all, keep up the great work both of you, Dave and Lynda
You made my evening with a new video, James. Really interesting as always. I’ve never been to Great Yarmouth or Norfolk but the beach looked lovely. Very typical seaside town although not as down at heel as some are. Absolutely head and shoulders above those you visited in Essex, though. Loved the old timey amusements/penny arcade! I’d love to go there, right up my strasse 😂 Aren’t you getting a bit sick of eating fish and chips now? Maybe you need to try a Wetherspoons cheapo meal or a Chinese etc. You could hear the crunch on that batter though 😀
Thanks for that video James, I was there a couple of months back but only had a few hours so it was nice to see all the places I missed. All the best, David
Oh im salivating at the fish and chips 😋 definitely looked best one yet. Loved the tour as never been to Great Yarmouth and beach looked really good. Enjoy rest of your week James 😊
another brilliant video james them fish and chips look really nice ive never been to great Yarmouth what a beautiful place it is very pretty and a nice clean beach. 😊
I've never been there either but my Grandma was born and raised there, sadly I only found that out when I read her obituary. She sadly passed away 40 years ago so I can't ask her whereabouts in Great Yarmouth she lived. Xx
We had a small guest house in Great Yarmouth in the seventies just opposite the pier it was one of the happiest time of my life, l use to take my dog on the beach each morning before cooking the breakfasts happy memories.
I sure John was down there must been 3 years ago, definitely nice place but try parking in car parks near beach absolutely ridiculous. Plenty to do. Enjoying these blogs
Many thanks for that James - the nearest I've been was way back in the sixties driving a 46 ft. cruiser up Breydon Water into the teeth of a summer gale - all the other vessels fell in behind me, presumably thinking I knew what I was doing! It took full throttle to keep going forward but we eventually made it. 😆
Great Yarmouth is doing its best to improve itself but there are some other RUclipsrs who can't wait to put the boot into the place. It's got the traditional problems which seaside resorts have, especially in late autumn and winter. But it's ok. Loads of snobs like to sneer at the place but it's ok. It should make more of its history. The town is very old
Here's some trivia about Witherspoons that you may, or may not already know. All the carpets are different between pubs. They're designed to reflect the local area history or the specific building's history. No two carpets are the same, they're all individually designed. Anyway, great video as always James and good to see you continuing to enjoy van life. Do you have any plans for when winter draws in?
Here some interesting trivia about the Gt Yarmouth Wetherspoons. It’s called The Troll Cart and was named after the barrows that were thin and long so they were able to manoeuvre down the hundreds of very narrow Rows where families lived in tiny property’s. If you go to the local Time and Tide museum there is a ‘mock-up’ of what it was like to live in one of the rows.
I love Yarmouth but my personal favourites for holidays are Hemsby and Caister, Cromer and Hunstanton (my local) id say sit just behind them in my opinion but that comes with emotive bias to be honest. Gt Yarmouth is pretty rough around the edges sadly wtih some very unsavoury characters around that I have never encountered in Caister where I often stay (I live in West Norfolk but the east coast is the nicest), a shame the town has become what it has but they're making the effort to their credit.
I thought I knew Yarmouth but i didn’t really recognise some places you went to……..you like history??? Find the fishing museum down the other end near the fairground, very interesting!
That brings back some memories. Havnt been there since I was a kid many years ago lol. Loving yr travels James. Looking forward to seeing ur side kick when she’s not at work. Sithee Maxxx
Another good video James we love Yarmouth especially the new market food hall. We are due to go there in a couple of weeks, in fact right where you parked up. keep up the good work mate and Carry On Regardless. Also I think you have made a good career choice for the future, you seem to take to presenting very well along with Helen.
I wintered there a couple of years back and am thinking of doing it again this year, with the Norfolk Broads close by it's a great place, obviously most things are closed then but it's still got a nice vibe and the weather is milder that further north.
I like Great Yarmouth and Gorlston I really enjoy it there is a new thai restaurant the food was lovely in there on the beach front at the other end and we always have a great time 6 days. We love Thailand but we like Great Yarmouth market row have a place cafe Turkish origin make a beautiful roast in 2016 2018 it was £5.50 for a roast but about £8.50 £9 now days
Nice video J. Brings back some distant memories although the main holidays for me with mum and dad were in Walton on the Naze and Frinton which have awesome beaches as well. I am sure the last time I went to Great Yarmouth we went to banger racing but I have no idea if its still there.
Ive lived around Gt Yarmouth all my life. It gets a bad wrap but it has some beautiful places, things to do and alot of history and heritage. Its the people that reside there that make it bad...
Norfolk has some stunning beaches. Southwold also nice. This weekend is Holmfirth and Huddersfield food fests. Some great pubs in Holmfirth with O’Briens and Magic Rock, The Nook
🙋♀️ Never been to GY so thanks for the walk-about 👍 It would have been nice to get a birds eye view from the 'big wheel' you were sitting next to, but it prob was another expensive ride ... I think fish/chips always depends on how hungry you are - the hungrier the nicer they taste ... but it looked good 💯💯
My neck of the woods down the road in Lowestoft, should have grabbed your chips of the market mate bangin! Gt yarmouth used to be rave central back in the day, good times
Hi James .. Really enjoyed the sound of the sea Never been to Great Yarmouth so again it'll be my visit as now too decrepit to travel that far from Somerset. It looks like an old fashioned seaside town. I loved the old wall at the church they get me every time - as I touch as feel the vibes and only wish bricks could talk. I haven't had fish and chips for ages but every time you post, especially at the seaside, I can smell them and get tempted ! What a quaint ginnel so vintage looking. Reminded me of my late 70's college days in Weymouth. Oh yes, that's another place to go - Dorset. Keep up the good work you have no idea how much I look forward to your vlogs. You are wasted on youtube I still think you need a TV series . Take Care. Janice 👵 xxx
Janice I don't know your health situation but you must be my age or there abouts by your college year's unfortunately I don't drive but deciding I'm going going somewhere and it coming to futrition is great and keeps me going xxxx
I Went in that arcade a while back, the one with no shoppers, i personally found the adverts over the speakers annoying and can see why few go in. Be nice just to enjoy walking through and shop without ads blaring out.
Loved this mate , grew up in Yarmouth till the age of about 35 , this brilliant, great work 👌
For all its faults, still home . Thanks for such a positive presentation!
Cromer and Sheringham are well worth a visit. Smaller, but much nicer than Yarmouth.
Not full of foreigners like yarmouth
My son lives in Cromer can't wait to move to Mundesly to get away, horrible snobby place same with Sherringham.
Much more to do in Yarmouth
Really pleased to see Great Yarmouth still maintaining its charm. Loved the old machines in the penny arcade
Loved it in there
James, just up the coast is Winterton-on-Sea. There are Norfolk Round Houses that you can stay in. The beach and dunes are great.
Some of the 'Dads Army' programme was filmed in the area.
Seeing this video brought back SO many memories of GY, lost count of how many times I’ve been then since I was young to now my ripe old age of 65 !
My late parents always went GY for coaching holidays never been myself but looks nice .i enjoy your vlogs both with or without Helen
Thank you

Really enjoyed that walkabout James. GY is a lovely town & so clean.
Glad you liked it. Living in Norwich its alway been my go too seaside spot. The beach next door at Gorleston on Sea is worth a look. North Norfolk is another place that's worth a trip, very picturesque.

Yes she's shattered. We're going away this weekend though 😊
Nice to hear Del Shannon singing “ So long baby” takes me back.
Should have gone on the Gt Yarmouth eye ( Big Wheel) for some panoramic views

Thank you mate, I appreciate that
I live in Southwold (Hamstead on Sea) and we LOVE Gt Yarmouth. Loads to do, proper seaside resort.
Been to Great Yarmouth, once was enough! However that was one of your best vids, Why? Because you didn't add any music but let us hear the local sounds. Please do that more often.
Nothing wrong with winging it, no preconceptions and less bias, it gives for a true account of what you find. Great video, thanks James.
Thank you
Thank you for letting me join you I really loved it I’m from Lowestoft and didn’t realise how interesting it is We’ll done x
Thanks James I have never been there but looks great ,enjoyed that walk with you
I loved Great Yarmouth as as kid,I thought it was the best place in the world.

Where are all the seagulls when your eating on sea front ? Usually get mobbed

It's a lovely place. I liked it
Years ago, Jim Davidson own the Pier. Met him in Long John Silver's Bar, so down to earth, no Heirs and Grace's, just a genuinely affable bloke
The only church ⛪ you like, church taverns, and church Inn 😅 awesome

At 8:32 there was an admiring smile for you James. 😮
Oo err!! 😊
Another great vlog mate stayed. At that park where you parked up few years back and a one caister nice place is Yarmouth keep up the good work 👍
Always liked Gt Yarmouth as a kid. Tend to avoid Weatherspoons though, they're like drinking halls and I refuse to pay Tim Martin anything.
Why do Tim Matin haters invariably spell Wetherspoon incorrectly?
I use to love that arcade of shops there were always antiques to find , what a shame it’s so quiet!
Thanks for that video James, I was there a couple of months back but only had a few hours so it was nice to see all the places I missed. All the best, David
Thanks David
used to go there as akid 65 years ago loads takeaways sold jellied cow heels and bowls of green peas and mint sauce
Love the sea! Even in stormy weather. Brilliant this, those fish n chips looked good x
Oh im salivating at the fish and chips 😋 definitely looked best one yet. Loved the tour as never been to Great Yarmouth and beach looked really good. Enjoy rest of your week James 😊
Thank you Sandra
another brilliant video james them fish and chips look really nice ive never been to great Yarmouth what a beautiful place it is very pretty and a nice clean beach. 😊
They were the best ones yet! 😊
Hi there its a lovely place got some shops there mate
I've never been there either but my Grandma was born and raised there, sadly I only found that out when I read her obituary. She sadly passed away 40 years ago so I can't ask her whereabouts in Great Yarmouth she lived. Xx
We had a small guest house in Great Yarmouth in the seventies just opposite the pier it was one of the happiest time of my life, l use to take my dog on the beach each morning before cooking the breakfasts happy memories.
Great blog James looked a decent place and beaches lovely . Well done 🎉🎉x
There is a chippy there that cooks the old ways, in oil with beef dripping added. Like in Scotland.
The town is very old
Hi James, you should try ‘pipers’ in Tenby the best fish and chips ever !!!
Thank you, that's an interesting fact 😊
Here some interesting trivia about the Gt Yarmouth Wetherspoons. It’s called The Troll Cart and was named after the barrows that were thin and long so they were able to manoeuvre down the hundreds of very narrow Rows where families lived in tiny property’s. If you go to the local Time and Tide museum there is a ‘mock-up’ of what it was like to live in one of the rows.
Come to Lowestoft walk up a empty front and not forgetting the empty street lol there are a few places that do fish and chips.
lovely day out fish an chips looked great xx
Hi, Now I need to go to Great Yarmouth, I went 14 years ago, I used to live in Wisbech , now I'm based in London, greetings!
That brings back some memories. Havnt been there since I was a kid many years ago lol. Loving yr travels James. Looking forward to seeing ur side kick when she’s not at work. Sithee Maxxx
She'll be back next week 😊
As always great video... much love from another Barnsley lad
Thanks mate
Another good video James we love Yarmouth especially the new market food hall. We are due to go there in a couple of weeks, in fact right where you parked up. keep up the good work mate and Carry On Regardless.
Also I think you have made a good career choice for the future, you seem to take to presenting very well along with Helen.
Thank you! :-)
The ginnels in GY are called Rows, where as in neighbouring Lowestoft they are called scores. fun fact for you lol
I always watch your videos on an evening, all settled with a beer and you come on with fish and chips. Bloody starving again now again lol
Oh dear. Sorry about that 😳
I won't bog off I love watching your videos.
I think fish/chips always depends on how hungry you are - the hungrier the nicer they taste ... but it looked good 💯💯
I should have gone on but it was a tenner!
My neck of the woods down the road in Lowestoft, should have grabbed your chips of the market mate bangin! Gt yarmouth used to be rave central back in the day, good times
Hi James ..
Really enjoyed the sound of the sea
Never been to Great Yarmouth so again it'll be my visit as now too decrepit to travel that far from Somerset.
I’ve never been. It sounds like a cliche but it looks really quite smart and well looked after as you said. Nice to see the sea, sat here in February.
I Went in that arcade a while back, the one with no shoppers, i personally found the adverts over the speakers annoying and can see why few go in. Be nice just to enjoy walking through and shop without ads blaring out.
Yes I agree, it spoiled the atmosphere
