  • Don Carson, president of TGC, provides a simple explanation of how people were saved in the Old Testament. God has always required that his people exercise faith, even when that faith lacked the clear connections to Jesus that we can see today.

Always by grace through faith. Sad that many don’t understand this and claim they were saved by works instead. I have dealt with this on my channel as well.

For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

This is partially true. Christians believe the Apostles creed. Some modern Christian cults object to it. People of the Old Testament went to a place in hell called Abrahams Bosom. You can easily look this up. The Apostles creed says "Jesus descended into hell ". Their he preached the gospel to them in Abraham's Bosom and then after 3 days in the grave he arose and lead captive free to heaven. All this is easily researched

The Apostle‘s creed is not a basis for biblical truth. Also, were does it say that Jesus descended into Abraham‘s Bossom? And what do you make of Enoch and Elijah assuming into heaven?

The people in the OT probably had no clue what the Messiah would do on the cross, but hoped for a deliverer from enemies. The people in the OT were saved by grace, but not through faith! Paul says, "But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the Law, being confined for the faith that was destined to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our guardian to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian" (Gal. 3:23-25). You see they weren't justified by faith prior to Christ. Abraham was a prophetic type of this age of faith and justification.

    New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by
husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.

If you read about King Saul or King David in the book of Kings you will find that God was pouring out His Spirit through anointing by oil by the Prophet Samuel.
Also God's Spirit was in the Ark of The Covenant. Traveling around with the Israelites.
After God came, in the person of Jesus Christ. He became The Ark of The Covenant.

They were in paradise under the earth. Jesus took them out of paradise to heaven when he went to paradise in the earth when he died. The center of the earth was divided into paradise on one side, and hell on the other. With a space between them, Remember when the rich man died he called to Abraham to send the beggar with a drop of water to cool his tongue.
Ephesians 4:8-10. Now when we die we go straight to heaven. Absent from the body, present with the Lord.

Jesus told the thief on the cross, today you will be with me in paradise. Not heaven. Jesus ascended to heaven 40 days after He was raised from the dead. All of the Old Testament saints went to paradise in the earth.
The difference between the Old Testament saints, and the New, is the old testament saints could lose the Holy Spirit. New testament saints are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise when we believe First Corinthians 15:1-4. Ephesians 1:13-14 and Ephesians 4:30. Hebrews 13:5 And be content with such things as ye have, for He hath said, I will never leave you or forsake you. John 6:37 I will never cast you out.

The Psalmist of Psalm 49:15 and other Old Testament figures shed light on this. Hell was the common grave of humanity. All men descended into hell, where there is darkness. But the Psalmist, David, and others had faith in their God, that He'd ransom and free them from the shackles of prison. Christ descended into hell, broke their shackles, as He promised and they believed, and lead them to His Father in Heaven. Now under the New Covenant, in the age of Christ's Church, we can have access to the previously forbidden realm of God, Heaven itself, by believing on His Son. No longer must all men go down into hell in gloom, but by the Power of Jesus Christ the sinner who repents and believes the Gospel is admitted into the Father’s bosom, and the Age to Come.

Eternal life was not available immediately in the OT because the Holy Spirit didn't dwell inside a believer to give strength to overcome sin. The new covenant bekiever is given this gift so they can crucify thier carnal nature and be made perfect in Gods eyes. By this sacrifice of the elect sons in the NT are the OT saints redeemed who lived by obedience and faith too. It wasn't by just ones mans death. Its by all elect sons death to self. Fulfilling the feast days within each of us.

      @RoseSharon7777
There is only ONE Mediator who can save from sin, our Lord Jesus Christ. No other sacrifice is sufficient, nor necessary, nor possible. We do not save even ourselves by our own merits, let alone the saints who died before us. All our obedience is the fruit and evidence, not the root and source, of our salvation.
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time" (1 Timothy 2:5-6).
"And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance" (Hebrews 9:15).
"...we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified" (Hebrews 10:10-14).
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
Why would anyone hope for salvation from us who by our flawed and imperfect obedience are not even able to save ourselves, when we have a sinless, perfect Redeemer who willingly offered Himself to bear the sins of ALL in every age who look to Him for release from their sin and guilt? Turn to Jesus Christ alone for salvation; His work is perfect!

@@margretmeyer4268 You need to buy a lexicon and read the OT. Jesus is not God, there was no miracle conception in Isaiah 7, the virgin daughter of Zion is not a woman named Mary, there is no sacrifice for willful sins in the OT, human sacrifice is an abomination to God, God did impregnate a married woman, there was no crucifixion nor a prophecy about a crucifixion, and there was no bodily resurrection. All these doctrines are a deception of the catholic church which you were told in Revelation is the beast. Nothing Christians have been led to believe is true and a strong delusion just like they were warned. But the prophecy that their blinded eyes will be opened in the day of affliction in Jer 16:19-21 is actually happening now. Millions have COME OUT of the harlot church and returned to the Father ALONE, our ONLY SAVIOR. 1st commandment.
Isaiah 43:11, Isaiah 45:5, Deut 6:4, Deut 13. If you haven't read Isaiah 40-60 in awhile I suggest you do so. A lexicon and interliner is required when studying the bible. And not everything in the bible came from God but from evil scribes who deceitfully handled the word of God as Paul, Jeremiah, John, and others warned about. Thats why you were told to establish the logos of truth by 2 or 3 witnesses line upon line precept upon precept. Thats why the gospel stories contradict each other. And also the OT prophecies were cherrypicked out of context, misquoted and mistranslated leading people into apostasy and idolatry. I hope you spend more time studying the logos b4 you meet your creator YHWH. The ONE who said he has no equals and there is none other but him alone. And if anyone comes teaching something else, they are to be stoned.

Men can only recieve the Holy Spirit from Jesus Christ. You are in dangerous error for your mockery, because you do not believe and seek to attack others. The saints of old believed on God and His Promises, and were declared righteous. They awaited their Lord in the bosom of sheol. The saints after the Cross believe(d) on God and the Promises of His Son, and are declared righteous. Christ descended into the depths of the world, and lead the captives into freedom. Both us and they, and those to come; Christ has saved God's People through His death and resurrection. You must believe on the Gospel of our God to also recieve eternal life, by God's Grace and Mercy. If you will believe that Jesus is Lord, and that the Father raised Him from the dead and into Glory, you shall be saved. Repent, believe, and be baptized into Christ the Lord, my dear friend.
