I was dating a girl like this. A heart of gold. So loyal, thoughtful, compassionate, sefless, kind - you name it. The problem was - although she was pretty - I was not attracted to her and more than that, she was not a christian. Thank you for this, Pastor John! 1 Peter 3:1-7 has been my favorite passage on marriage for awhile, but I had never heard this particular exegesis regarding the "outward adorning" part. I had never considered it applied to a wife trying to win over her husband with outward adorning, but that fits the context. This is a very interesting way of looking at this pointed instruction to wives. I am blessed to have a God-fearing husband who leads with love and service to God, however I do pray this scripture almost daily, asking for God's help to have a gentle and quiet spirit and not to fear anything that is frightening.

I needed to hear this. My husband has recently been saved praise God! But the situation that led to this was him being unfaithful and now I’ve been preoccupied by my looks since I’m not endowed (was always thin and small but after some health issues and children I struggle with being underweight) … I try so hard to focus on my face so I can make up for what I lack below my face. My husband had typical lust problems and it was just his problem but it became our problem too unfortunately it affected my self esteem even more. Guys love big boobs or whatever I tried so many years to accept it and when I thought I did he did the unthinkable so I’m still trying to lean on God for validation. I’ll never be good enough for my husband as much as he loves me and regrets how he was I still struggle with the what ifs. You are good enough and more than enough. The lust that your husband might feel for some woman out there is temporary. Lust is temporary, that is the nature of lust, and it can never be fully satisfied. Please place your focus on loving the Lord and allowing Him to transform you into the beautiful woman He has made you in Him. And all along just continue to love your husband and pray for Him. That's a great question. It's definitely not easy. I think about how unfair it was for Jesus to suffer and die for our sins, while He knew no sin. When I look to what Jesus endured for us, my suffering seems small. We have to reflect the love and grace of Christ. God will give us the peace that passes all understanding. Philippians 4:4-7 NIV [4] Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! [5] Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. My mother is also in this situation. I as a Christian really don’t know how to process this type of abuse. My mother is also a Godly Women but my father always puts her down even tries to use the bible to degrade her when she didn’t do anything wrong😢 help?

KJV is pretty clear that if a husband does not obey the word of God, he may be won by her chaste conversation (talking). The word clearly is the word of God. Newer translations twist this around but go back to the original Greek manuacripts too.

That's a great question. It's definitely not easy. I think about how unfair it was for Jesus to suffer and die for our sins, while He knew no sin. When I look to what Jesus endured for us, my suffering seems small. We have to reflect the love and grace of Christ. God will give us the peace that passes all understanding.

Personally, I think you should break up with him! If you feel in your gut that he is A) looking at other women and B) not fully cherishing you in the dating stage, imagine what being married to him will be like!
