I have been recording and engineering for a LOT of years...since the early 70's and I feel like a beginner after seeing many of the folks on this amazing show. I learn more in one episode than I can otherwise learn in a healthy length of time. Not only about technique but software and equipment that the everyday man can often use as well. Thank you all so much for giving so much of yourselves. I'm sure it is deeply appreciated by all of us out here is audio-land!
I engineer, mix, and master a lot of noisey punk for vinyl, and I think this episode was one of the best/most informative. Pete's explanations of how to handle high and low end, the physical properties and limitations of vinyl, etc were concise and clear in a way I haven't seen anywhere else. Team Pensado does a tremendous job each and every episode, thanks y'all!
These insightful shows are for more than just audio engineers. I think all musicians should watch them. I hope Pensado's Place has another 100 shows in them! Thank you Avid, Vintage King Audio, and Art Institue for the support to make this invaluable information available to me.
Excellent 100th Episode Pensado Peeps! This is an amazing resource for Engineers, Producers, musicians and educators alike! Thanks so much for the advice Dave and Herb! You are both amazing inspiration and I think with the skills you provide you are doing a massive service to our industry in the States and Internationally! Thanks so much guys! Much
I have watched every episode! Congratulations to you both! I have learned more from watching you and listening to all the pro advice then I ever could have with my nose in an audio book. Once again you guys are the best! Pensado's Place is amazing! Here's for 100 more!!
Recently discovered your show. Been doing audio engineering & I.T work for decades and have worked in more or less all aspects of both fields, so I believe I'm pretty well informed. Your videos a are a treasury of useful information and I learn something from each show. Thanks so much. I've got a lot of catching up to do.
@ 31:20 - YES, i agree that when you listen to the vinyl you get more of the Artists 'concept' of what the album is about. Very interesting interview !!
great itl...very cool plug in center from waves...dave what about an itl on tuning kick and snare (when to do it or not to merge with bass or whatever)
There is one thing I don't get regarding ITL's topic: If we pan low harmony voice more to the side and leave main voice in the middle and move the hi harmony voice more to the center, wouldn't we get unbalanced and "side heavy" mix?
its a lot to do with the vinyl cut vs cd master. CDs limitation is the peak level where vinyl is much more affected by the rms level. So the mastering engineer takes a different approach
***** ok, what I ment is how you explain or describe low frequency being out of phase? What state is that? What is going on? Does it just mean, too much bass on top of each other? or sub being in stereo?

And you guys do it again. Thank you, I nominate you for the most professional, dynamic, serious and entertained engineering show of the web.

Please never stop being so awesome! You guys are the best :D
Cool interview, good insight on mastering, I love vinyl too for the same reasons, mixing or mastering debate was fun
Awesome show! Really informative and get's down to business. Your friggin amazing Dave!
Very informative. Always cool to learn more about things like vinyl, even though I barely have any experience with it.
Congrats guys well done.. Look forward to the next 100 :D
damn good show
great itl...very cool plug in center from waves...dave what about an itl on tuning

great show, I really wanna know about what looks like a "paint can" under Dave's ns10's!!!!!
Great episode!
this guy mastered halsey's album "badlands" .........
HE IS A LEGEND.

Drop the needle needle on the bar! Great quote

Once again great show. BUT PLEASE CAN YOU DEESS the lady introducing the show? sizzle like crazy...for an high end audio show :-)
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and as a Serbian i LOVE the Yugo joke! :D :D :D
batter box was hilarious!!
Yo dave, how come the frequency of a professionally mastered track stops at 17k or so?
mynameisnobody99 - when they master for vinyl, they found this. 16 or 17 k, cut all from above
That guy reminds me of Nate from The Office
Second! :D
But let me be constructive off (or... on?) topic: Try Abbey Road plugins! EMI Comp/Limiter is fantastic for drums! :)
Cheers guys!
How do I know that low freq is out of phase? What tells me that?
***** ok, what I ment is how you explain or describe low frequency being out of phase? What state is that? What is going on? Does it just mean, too much bass on top of each other? or sub being in stereo?
Need dat itl on mixin vox over 2 track beatz
ha ah loved the sarcasm :D
I am edm producer in newyork looking to team up
Holy shit I got so lost on this one haha
There's just usually not a ton of musical information up there, to my knowledge. Dithering could play a role, but I'm not certain.
They're NS-10s.
pensado reminds me of a wise goat
Tell me about it, lol !!
cya
I keep hearing VietNAMM. Haha!
1st !!!
