GOOD LUCK with the expo!!! U guys giving back to the new generation is awesome. Love these podcasts. Bring the expo to the UK!!!! and thanks for ur hard work.
The world said the same about the validity of rap music (i.e. 2 turns & mic vs. a band, rhyming vs. singing/harmony), and...well... Change is inevitable.
Dylan is one of my favourite guest on Pensado's Place he always gives lots of information and he doesn't treat the listeners as babies he just speaks tech talk and music talk and its fab you can tell that Dave loves it too. Sometimes he's just like yep, yep, yep so... But when Dylans on he is way more talkative as far as tech and music talk.
Because the idea of "good" and "bad" is not based on some intrinsic sonic quality. Good and bad is based more on peoples taste, so when a large group of people start enjoying a certain sound. that now becomes "good" Because kids with laptops in the last 5 years have been creating music that's being enjoyed by so many people, that "sound" is something that is being chased after. In my opinion, it's more exciting than backwards. The playing field has never been more leveled!
Can't tell you how awesome that ITL was. If you're ever put in a situation in a situation without high end reverb our 3rd party plugins there are always still great work arounds with just stock plugins
There is no limit to ones creativity if you can do it on a laptop and it sounds good fine. I have done mixes on my macbook pro with logic pro and harrison mixbus and people thinks its a big studio . so no limit guys. All i have also use the logic auto tune to enhance vocals and it does a good job.
Hey Dave and Herb. I think you should play short clips of the songs you are talking to the guest about so that if you don't know the song you can still understand the concept of the technic
i love how they ignore the fact that steve angello and sebastian ingrosso were jointly resposible for this is love. will probably just sat in like a fly on the wall
Daft Punks latest song "Get Lucky" was recorded analog with JR robinson(drummer on "Thriller" and Chaka Khan & Rufus) on live drums, Nile Rodgers on guitar. These guys could be my father, but it proves that you don't have to follow the masses.
it's not about lower quality, it's just a different dynamic. somehow the kids and teens, which represent the bigger chunk of money in pop music, got used to that kind of sound and now they're expecting it, and the record engineering world, which is a service sector, has to act accordingly.
It's also because of how people consume music now. So much music is being listened to on laptops, that if the "big studio" guys didn't "work on a lower level" so to speak, to make things sound good on a lower quality sound system, there mix would sound worst for the majority of people listening to it.
Actually, I'd say that all my friends who are active in production have done it. We've all done it and I'm not embarrassed to admit that I've done it plenty of times and actually still do it. Nope, I never gave you that percentage. Plenty of artists make their own stuff. I'm just saying that anyone can afford it. I don't think people on either side understand what it actually entails. I think we're going to make a video on this. Thanks!
I think it's just you, mate. I doubt these pro's are really trying to sound like they're really mixing completely inside the box. If anything I think the pro's are now getting used to working in a hybrid flow between the two. And thats only because the "in the box" technology game is finally worth getting into.
Seems to be one rock producer/engineer for every 10 cheese-pop guys. I know the creator of this show is known for mixing Pink.. but I long for the engineers who deal with bands and acoustic instruments.
The only problem I have with the theory that they are trying to match what "the kids" are doing on their laptops is, when did it become cool to lower the quality of our work? Out of all the guys that have been on this show, I have never heard one stroke a producers "ego dick" the way this guy did for Will I Am. And get over it, we all know you aren't trying to "disrespect a craft" Not the best guest Herb and Dave has had on...
watching the show now, just have to say this before I resume it: popular DJs nowadays may have records out with their names on them but 99% of them, and that's a conservative figure, are ghost-produced.
This is my new favorite episode. Don't get me wrong, I think the will.i.am record sounds like half-cocked garbage - but I'm all about intention and you should be too. If you don't have particular intentions with your art, how the hell are you going to do something that has a point to it? It's fine if you're not ready to let your taste and knowledge make decisions for you, but maybe you should downsize the time you spend on production and start developing actual passion instead.
I've worked with will I am in 95 and 2001. He is very creative and talented, however in recent years it seems he has gone the pop route trying to keep up with the trends. Its disappointing that he recently stole that song for his latest album. The old Will would have made fun of the music the current Will is making as opposed to artist that evolve while maintaining their integrity.
They wouldn't be where they are if they did. To each their own. Most people would choose being happy and overweight over being a superficial, skinny kid with a laptop.
Will.I.Am is an embarrassment, and this episode is too. When whole tracks are lifted from someone else, you can't just go on the show talking about all the production that was involved, without addressing that.
1. They don't have very physically demanding jobs. 2. These jobs make them money, so they enjoy life. Caring about the looks of an engineer is absolutely ridiculous. You're definitely a kid with a laptop.
I like hiw the address kids with laptops blowing them away. As will I am steals songs from younger prouducers. As he did to arty and mat zo. Will I am is a hack.
Will I am ? Daft Punk 2013? I smell fear! pathetic need to overcompress, hit your head and sell desperatly, vulgar overspicy/salty food..... CREATIVE ? you mean GOTYE.
I love Pensados place but saying will i am is original and creative!!!! No way HE STEALS EVERYTHING.. quintino - epic and doop this time. William creates poor versions of tracks he steals the ideas from. Thats all he does. He has no creativity at all and steals everything, he should have no respect hes the biggest sell out in music.
GOOD LUCK with the expo!!! U guys giving back to the new generation is awesome. Love these podcasts. Bring the expo to the UK!!!! and thanks for ur hard work.
thanks for such a great/in-depth episode guys!!
uffff, it was f**ng Great!!! Dylan Thank YoU so Much!!!!

GOOD SHOW ALWAY'S GREAT THANK'S GUY'S THE BEST''

so so so good still
The Gear Expo is going to be epic. See everyone there!
Just listened to "This is love", its an ordinary overcompressed dance track,
and they praising it like it's "Dark side of the moon".

excelent!
I love it when I find good videos with no dislikes :).
Will-I-Am is amazingly creative in renaming other works as his own.
great itl!
Gotta do a gear expo on the east coast!
Hey Dave and Herb. I think you should play short clips of the songs you are talking to the guest about so that if you don't know the song you can still understand the concept of the technic
Did anyone else catch Herb's gesture telling dave to get off his phone right in the beginning? lol
What episode was the ITL with the reverse reverb they're talking about in?
good point!!
21:20 "rip it off" don't worry about it Dave, Will knows all about that!
i love how they ignore the fact that steve angello and sebastian ingrosso were jointly resposible for this is love. will probably just sat in like a fly on the wall
No not yet! lol Herb Rocks!
Daft Punks latest song "Get Lucky" was recorded analog with JR robinson(drummer on "Thriller" and Chaka Khan & Rufus) on live drums, Nile Rodgers on guitar. These guys could be my father, but it proves that you don't have to follow the masses.
Vintage king needs to open a store in Australia
If you didn't take in some of that mixing knowledge the hell with you lol. Great episode one of my favorites
it's not about lower quality, it's just a different dynamic. somehow the kids and teens, which represent the bigger chunk of money in pop music, got used to that kind of sound and now they're expecting it, and the record engineering world, which is a service sector, has to act accordingly.
It was my question on the end in corner office:)but a little bit modified
Yea I've done always I'm speaking of the engineering producing of music to sound substandard, Happy recording Bubbles LOL

He moved. I think it was like 5 or 6 episodes back he was discussing it.
Oh and SHM produced this is love, so dont give will i am the credit please.
Subjectivity is a beautiful thing ;)
is it just me or did Dylan avoid answering the qustion about the Britsh Brittany?
"That dude Will that makes me rich every day is a dim hack." said no one who ever wanted to keep their job.
I think it's just you, mate. I doubt these pro's are really trying to sound like they're really mixing completely inside the box. If anything I think the pro's are now getting used to working in a hybrid flow between the two. And thats only because the "in the box" technology game is finally worth getting into.
I totally agree, most of his so called productions sound like beginner stuff.
i wish i was there now! dammit my teleport button is jammed. maybe is the wrong frequency
Like this for Fab Dupont to be a guess on Pensados Place!
If top studios tend to sound like a kid on a laptop, thats their problem =D
Seems to be one rock producer/engineer for every 10 cheese-pop guys. I know the creator of this show is known for mixing Pink.. but I long for the engineers who deal with bands and acoustic instruments.
You should get Alan Parsons on!
😃

Not the best guest Herb and Dave has had on...
Left plays right and right plays left.
pensado's place forum coming soon? gearslutz is sorta anti top 40
3 WAY POUND BROTHERS*
herb needs depends just taking about gear expo!

lol 3:45 , thats me.
They wouldn't be where they are if they did.
To each their own. Most people would choose being happy and overweight over being a superficial, skinny kid with a laptop.
On Pensado's??? That's weird...
The sad part is will rips off younger producers. Who aren't mega millionaires
waait wait wait ... lets just bring the deadmau5 guy in and then talk about REAL kick drum :)
Will.I.Am is an embarrassment, and this episode is too. When whole tracks are lifted from someone else, you can't just go on the show talking about all the production that was involved, without addressing that.
but... Better are small fish than an empty dish:)
Why did Will-I-Am blatantly rip off Arty & Mat Zo's track "Let's Go"... he kinda lost any credibility to me.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh do u even lift bro, or just eat cheeseburger 24/7
This is an ongoing problem.
1. They don't have very physically demanding jobs.
2. These jobs make them money, so they enjoy life.
Caring about the looks of an engineer is absolutely ridiculous. You're definitely a kid with a laptop.
Not a deal breaker, but yeah. lol
danny mcbride? why is everyone so overweight? im a kid with a laptop i guess
I like hiw the address kids with laptops blowing them away. As will I am steals songs from younger prouducers. As he did to arty and mat zo. Will I am is a hack.
its really unhealthy to be overweight like that and i hope they do more with their lives than work! exercise is good stress relief!
Two thumbs down for this episode, except for the ITL
You are clueless. 99% can't afford it.
Will I am ? Daft Punk 2013? I smell fear! pathetic need to overcompress, hit your head and sell desperatly, vulgar overspicy/salty food..... CREATIVE ? you mean GOTYE.
