I really like the U.S. Army M5A1 light tank from WW2. The British were delighted with the original M3A1 because of the tank's mechanical reliability, speed, and agility. The M5 series was an improvement mostly in hull design. The M5A1 light tank was clearly obsolete by 1943 but well over 5,000 had been manufactured so there was no question of continuing its use which still proved useful for screening, flank security, and reconnaissance. M5 tankers still had to try their best to avoid duels with any German tank, easier said than done. Even several German heavy armored cars mounted lethal 50mm and 75mm high velocity cannon which proved detrimental to the M5A1's thin glacis hull armor.
The more advanced, modern M24 Chaffee light tank, lauded by WW2 tank historians, was supposed to replace the obsolescent M5A1 but that did not happen due to time and limited numbers. Therefore both light tanks served concurrently in the ETO.
The typical M5 tanker usually thought well of his Stuart tank. The biggest gripe was the light 37mm cannon, derisively referred to as, "The peashooter". One M5A1 tank commander remembered a tense confrontation when his tank crested a slight hill to look down on a Tiger I below trying to cross railroad tracks. The Stuart light tank fired 37mm shell after shell only to see the projectiles ricocheting up and away from the German tank. Finally a M10 GMC tank destroyer joined the Stuart and was able to knock out the Tiger I with its 3-inch anti-tank cannon.
The U.S. Army quickly disposed of the M5A1 Stuart after WW2, many being transferred to Allies or friendly nations as military foreign aid. Several countries, attempting to rebuild their army or modernize it were delighted to obtain free M5A1 light tanks.

Like the tank except the speed is RC car not tank. Thank you for taking it apart and being through in your review of the tank.

It does not have three servos. The turret rotation device has only two wires connected to it. A servo needs three. Therefore the turret
rotation device is a dc motor just like the heng long rc tanks use. So that means you could swap out the control unit with a heng long tk7.1 board

Once again, I would like to thank you for taking the time to do these videos. I am still inspired to complete my T-90. With the summer heat here, it's sometimes to warm to work on it. Hit 37 C here atm.

Don’t be silly, thank you for watching my nonsense! And that’s really hard to spray paint in, it drys before it hits the model.
Sorry for not getting back, work is still nuts, I’ve done no modelling, the unboxing is soooo much easier to do, I just talk nonsense! 🙂
Have a great week, and in GB it’s flipping strange weather, one minute really hot then it chucks it down for a week! 😂

Thanks so much for the video! It was very helpful, especially with the adjustment of the gun elevation. Personally, I think this little fella would have been the perfect tank if they could just slow down the running speed and get the sound to work properly...but hardware wise, it is definitely top notch。

Thanks shading and have a great week!

Just wanted to say that your videos and our brief conversation finally convinced me to get a Leo 2A6 from Toucans eBay store. Went with one that has metal road wheels/idler, metal tracks with rubber pads, and a 360 degree slip ring turret. Have been really impressed with it since it’s arrival on Monday. A completely different experience compared to what I had 15 years ago with HL.
Rough plan is to follow some of your videos for the view ports/optics and rough painting/screw hole filling. But I am thinking I might try to make it look like some of the Leo’s that have lots of tree branch’s and some black/colored tarp to break up the silhouette as seen on some of the videos showing Leo’s during training. Or I might try to make a Ukrainian leopard 2 with some Kontakt 1 ERA or try to make the one Leo that had slate armor around the turret that I believe was knocked out near Avdiivka and I believe was on display in Moscow for this years May 9th celebrations (I would of course do the pre-knocked out leo, though I would probably use some of the photos references of the destroyed tank).
I did also have one question for you, is there any serious concern I should be having with running all those metal road wheels/tracks on a stock chassis that doesn’t have any internal bracing support? I plan to mainly drive it inside on hardwood flooring/very flat carpet and maybe some light driving outside on concrete/pavement with very minimal off road dirt driving.

      Hi!
Yes there so much better than 10 years ago, night and day!.
And no, if you magnetise the hull, you may need braving because the screw bosses have male and female, which when screwed together stops all the twist (well 90%) if you watch my t-72 running vid, your see the hull twist, and that’s just hull magnets.
There quite fun ranks now, and sorry for not getting back, works still nuts.
      Have a great week!

    Culin Hedgerow Cutter.
Hopefully you can adjust the slack out of the tracks by dropping a few links.
I wonder if their Leo 2A6 has the same design - thinking I could perhaps gut the Coolbank and put it in the Tamiya?

Looking for advice from anyone who is knowledgeable, is there a quality difference between Heng long and Tongde? I have a few heng long but want to buy the Tongde M1a2 SEP

    • @mrtankalotrctankschannel
      @mrtankalotrctankschannel  Месяц назад

      Hi
The tongde stuff is exactly the same heng long electrics. The plastic is a bit more hard? The details are okay, they look a little soft, but I’m sure they can be modded.
I also believe it comes with torsion bar suspension.
Have a great weekend, and thanks for watching!
