This kit was pantographed off of the filming model. Monogram was owned by Mattel, so a couple guys went over to Universal Hartland and took measurements. (Unlike the Galactica, which was patterned from a suite of 300 photographs...badly.) A friend of mine who worked at Monoogram's Morton Grove, IL plant found the photos and showed up at my doorstep and handed them to me. I felt like an accessory to grand larceny. They were lost in a series of moves.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 You and me both. When my first wife and I separated in 1993, I just booked it out of the apartment and ended up leaving stuff behind. That included my complete set of the Mattel 3 3/4" BSG action figures (including the ones distributed to Kay•Bee in 1981).
I always loved the music cue that always played whenever a Cylon base star appeared on screen. The sounds of Galactica were every bit as memorable as the visuals to me.
Thank you for this great information . It helps to know what is possibly out there to collect . Never use reboot and Battlestar Galactica in the same sentence . Original only please. 🙂
I wanted this so bad in 1981 or so. DAMN! I was in the mall and they had it for 20 bucks. That was a lot of money back then for a kid. My allowance was like 75 cents a week or something. I did not get to buy the darn thing and have regretted it since. I had the cylon model and the viper model. Never got this basestar or the galactic.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing (and I wish that you still had those photos!).

I agree! Stu Phillips did an amazing job with the music!
I'll never forget the exciting day this kit arrived in the mail after a decade of searching..the Base Star has always been my favourite BSG ship.
It’s a fun kit! Thanks for watching!
I found one in a German toys-r-us store in 2000. I built it and its still sitting on my shelf. My wife tolerates the nerd toys in moderation.
Nice!!
Just stumbled across your channel and immediately subbed!
Now I'm gonna start making my way through ALL your videos!!!
Thank you!! I really appreciate it!!
I live in Tokyo and picked up this model. Still in the box.
Great find!!

I’ll only do that when I have no choice!
@Battlestar Collectica Has Ronald D Moore, got incriminating photographs on ya? Lol
I have modern Japanese kits and they aren't cello wrapped. I believe The band is called an obi.
Did not know that! Thanks for info and for watching!
I got the American Version of that kit...now I just need to find someone that can put models together..that actually knows what they are doing.
I'm a professional modelmaker, but live in Los Angeles.
@@dalethelander3781 And I am Professional All Thumbs! Why do they make glue so Permanant!? 🤣 Thanks for the reply to my silly joke though!
The kit is easy to put together. Now the Viper and Cylon Raider are another story! :)

Thanks for sharing that memory! I think all of us can relate!!
