@@rocketrigby5845 I whispered titan bubble to my girlfriend next to me when It happened and I had several people cackle behind me. The joke was a success
Imo the humor in this one was much better than Thor 4 because this one had funny situations (Modok, holes etc.) vs the characters and heroes constantly cracking jokes in situations where they shouldn’t. This one felt more like classic mcu with humor interlaced with serious things when Thor 4 felt just like a big joke that none of the characters took seriously. There was obviously a tone problem here but it’s in all of the mcu movies and I don’t really have much of an issue with it
Yeah I fully agree with you - Thor 4 was definitely much more egregious in this regard, and I thought that this movie had enough moments where they completely stopped with the jokes, in order to make the serious moments land. I understand the critics’ perspectives on the tonal issues, but I can’t say it impeded on my enjoyment as much as it did for them.
The first thing I thought when Cassie was talking about building the Quantum communicator was "Cassie Lang was able to build this in a basement! With a box of scraps!"
Ikr! Like it was so cheap that they just get to go back. Would've been so much better if they were stuck in there cuz that would add stakes and consequences.
Yeah, avengers 5 can’t come soon enough. Where are Wanda, Thor and Captain Marvel where you need them because good god the avengers will need them against the Kang Dynasty.
7.5 for me. I really enjoyed it. I thought they handled MODOK as good as they could have. He's a wildly ridiculous character and I never thought he could be a main villain. I personally like that they used Darren. It made sense.
Given the character of Modok is generally a creation of A.I.M. and not really the most interesting villain I get trying to add depth like making him Darren. Although I just wish they didn’t do the CGI face.
I think what made Kang so threatening is how distant Jonathan Majors plays him. He's in touch with some part of his humanity but he's also so cold and solemn towards all the feelings people have for him. He doesn't care because he knows so much more than the people he's fighting, and in his mind that justifies his mission in every way. Majors did an amazing job adding so much to the character, making him feel human and so distinctly inhuman at the same time.
Probably helps that no one is joking and all the other characters take him seriously as a threat except maybe Scott when he first meets Kang. But you could argue that’s nerves or he’s trying to keep Cassie from getting scared.
Sean absolutely hit the nail on the head. I’m liking Marvel movies less and less because the same problems are in every movie recently(minus Wakanda Forever) and aren’t being fixed. There’s been 18 projects in the last 2 years, and most of them have suffered from this problem. I felt Quantumania was painfully meh and a step down from the first 2
I personally enjoyed it more than ant man and the wasp but that’s my least favourite marvel film. This one was painfully mediocre and I’ve already forgotten a lot on it.
I don’t at all think this Kang is dead tbh. His “death” was VERY similar to that of Darren’s in Ant Man. We see him get shrunk down and vanish, but not lying dead and breathless. If you notice too, his death kinda looked like it was going into a crystallized structure just like the energy source for his ship. So I think he actually teleported out of there unintentionally, and the other Kang’s simply BELIEVE he is dead. I have a strong feeling this Kang will return in Kang Dynasty and ultimately end up victorious over the others In regards to the Council of Kang’s, the three main ones there were Immortus (the one with a raspy type voice and the emperor looking clothes. The comics Immortus is a lot like He Who remains but in the MCU they’re two separate characters. Rama Tut was the Egyptian one and actually the first ever Kang variant to appear in the comics, in an issue of Fantastic 4. Then the last one is I THINK Scarlet Centurion but his design is a lot different here. Then finally the one in the Loki scene was Victor Timely, who was Kang Prime who time traveled back to the past to set up his future rule All in all, despite its flaws, I really loved this movie and would give it a 8.5/10. The future of the MCU is very bright imo
yes this all sets up avengers 5. Where are Thor, Wanda and Captain Marvel when you need him because the avengers will need them in this huge multiverse war.
Just realized that perhaps Tony had bequeathed the glasses to Peter “a dead teenager” on purpose as 1) a way of honoring his name and character, but also 2) ensuring that no one got that technology. Though I wonder if SHIELD or some government agency would have seized that tech if there was no living recipient…
My Spoiler Thoughts Scott Lang Post-Endgame: Pretty much agree with everything you said. Just wish we spent more time in San Fran before getting thrust in the Quantum Realm. Cassie the Rebel & Genius: I like that Cassie is trying to help everyone. We know that Scott is her hero, she grew up watching him help those in need. They overtly state this in the second movie, she tells her dad that she wants to be his partner. So from her point of view, he's taking the easy way out, he saved the universe and now he's taking it easy. Whereas she sees the world in a different way and is trying to push her dad to be her hero again. Even in the Quantum Realm, she continues to push her dad. He doesn't want to help the Freedom Fighters, he just wants to get out. But she sees people in need. I do wish that this was more in the center of the story, as it gets lost in all the grand scope stuff. And I think this idea would've worked better in a movie outside of the Quantum Realm. As for Cassie being a genius now, I didn't have a problem with it. Again, it was rushed. We just get lines of dialogue of how she's been studying Hank's work and all. It makes sense, I mean look she probably studied a lot during the Blip on how to save her dad. But I wish they would've showed more of her genius rather than just tell us. Everything in San Fran was rushed just to get to the Quantum Realm, and I didn't like that. Inciting Incident: To start off I didn't even connect the dots between the Ant-Man and the Wasp post-credit scene where they send Scott into the Quantum Realm and the inciting incident here until you brought it up. It is very weird. Like Janet was there in the post-credit scene, if she knew how dangerous the Quantum Realm, was why would she sign off on sending Scott there, even if it was for 10 seconds. To me, it just feels like the post-credit scene was necessary for Endgame and they didn't care about it for the context of this movie. I mean yes, Ant-Man and the Wasp was written way before they had any ideas on what this movie would be like, but still, it's frustrating, I feel like this could've been somewhat fixed with a few lines of dialogue, but no, we just have to get straight to the Quantum Realm in this movie Star Wars of the MCU: Not much here. I liked exploring the Quantum Realm. It felt a lot like Star Wars to me, but as soon as we got there, I wish we went with another direction for the third movie of this franchise. It just didn't fit with its predecessors. Everything in the Quantum Realm felt like it would've worked better as a Disney+ show set in between Ant-Man and the Wasp and a proper third Ant-Man movie. Would've it have been ambitious for a Disney+ show, sure. But I don't particularly care. Also, we spent a lot of time just meandering in the Quantum Realm before meeting Kang, but all of the time spent is pointless because it's all just exposition and characters telling us about the impending doom. I wish we could've actually explored the Quantum Realm. Kang: Not much here either. I loved Kang in this movie. Agree with everything said. MODOK: Similarly, MODOK didn't work for me. I think he could've worked better as the main villain of another Ant-Man project later down the road. Just didn't fit with Kang at all. Was gonna touch on all the chapter markers, but I ended up agreeing with you a lot near the end haha. In the end, the movie was fun, but poorly paced and I just wish they went in a different direction I gave it a B Fun, well-made movie, but should've been a lot better
I think this Kang was the He Who Remains reset because at the end of Loki he said he’ll end back on top anyway. Now that presumably Scott and Hope killed him now the Other Kangs are now free to do whatever they want without another Kang replacing He Who Remains.
Kang dynasty is gonna be earth shattering, Avengers better hope WANDA isn’t dead, also call up Thor and captain marvel they need all the hope they can get against the Kang dynasty
I was pleasantly surprised by the movie when I got out of the cinemas. I thought both visually and on a worldbuilding basis, it was leagues ahead than most of the other MCU output over the past few years. I also did not notice the tonal problem as much as critics did. However, I would say that the one major problem I had with it was the lack of development in the relationship between Hope and Scott. Throughout the movie, they barely even interacted, which felt like an odd juxtaposition with how their dynamic was explored in the previous movies. For me, it just made the “I love you” at the end ring really hollow, particularly when they ended up just making their way back to the real world straight afterwards anyway. Idk - we have seen through WandaVision that Marvel is clearly capable of developing good romances, so it feels like they really dropped the ball with this one.
7.7/10 pretty solid film, i actually thought they didn’t over do it with the comedy like they usually do. It was just maybe a bit too much star wars like for me, too much CGI. I thought that the end fight was amazing, I didn’t like how Kang was written off.
I personally feel like there’s a difference between popping in quickly to the Quantum Realm to suck up some energy and sending ongoing communication with it. Remember in that post credit scene Scott was supposed to be in and out if not for the snap.
If Janet hadnt freaked out so hard at the idea of them doing anything quantum realm related id get that, but it felt like she pulled a 180. Some of the logic issues I had like that made me wonder how preconceived the movies plans were before end game
I thought she cleared this up by the “you didn’t look deep enough” line. She sent Scott down there at a controlled distance. I don’t know why people are calling it a plot hole. I mean even in the second movie, she told hank to go down to a very specific location. She freaked out cuz she wasn’t there to over see what Cassie was doing. Sending someone down to a specific location is completely different than sending down an unsupervised signal.
My personal opinion: Ant man and the wasp Quantumania was amazing. GREAT plot, BEST villain in the entire MCU besides Thanos, best MCU movie of phase 4, overall solid 9-9.5/10 for me! Screw the reviews! Well made movie, more serious tone than the last two ant man movies, Not too many jokes, but just enough- Gave me hope for the future of the MCU movies again! My only gripe is the modok thing but I mean what else were they really gonna do with modok ever? Just a little too silly imo but still was fine with it.
Idk why no one is talking about this, the movie should have been longer, like cassie should've gotten a character arc, they should've spent more time in the real world, and they should have had more world building, and explore the rebellion and the quantum realm more, so maybe it should've have been 20 or 30 minutes longer
I saw Quantumania last night, and I currently think that is just okay-maybe leaning mixed-negative. However there are very noticeable issues with this movie for me that are part of a growing problem with the Muliverse Saga as a whole so far, and I have a lot of things about this that I feel I need to discuss. Between Quantumania and Multiverse of Madness, I am starting to believe that Marvel is afraid to make smaller and self-contained stories. If you think about it, the first Ant-Man and the first Doctor Strange were both focused on their characters and very sparingly touched on connections to the wider MCU, and many fans over the years complained about how they were not relevant enough to the wider overarching story and were too boring compared to Avengers and other big Marvel crossover movies. So it seems that with Ant-Man and the Wasp, they tried to appease this vocal section of the fandom by constantly reminding them within the movie of how it takes place after Civil War, and giving exposition to how the quantum realm will possibly factor into Endgame. Then with Multiverse of Madness, they hijacked what should have been the next step in the development of Dr. Strange’s self-contained character arc by giving exposition into how the multiverse works and seeming cutting out the 2nd act at the last minute and replacing it with Illuminati cameos. And now with Quantumania, they got rid of Luis and the supporting characters from the first two Ant-Man movies and rushed right into the quantum realm where the entire cast of this movie is sidelined in favor of exposition for Kang. It’s almost as if Marvel was afraid that they would lose the attention of a portion of the fans if they didn’t force exposition for Secret Wars into these regular releases instead of saving cameos and setup for an actual crossover event movie. Instead of quickly jumping from Endgame to setup for the next end-of-saga event, Marvel should have had Phase 4 build up to a smaller Avengers movie on the level of the first or second that they could then use as a starting point for the ground work of the Multiverse Saga. But I imagine that not wanting to upset a portion of the fandom with an Avengers movie that is not an Endgame-level experience, Marvel decided to have the next proper crossover event be at the very end of the saga in five to six years and relegating groundwork for the next big event to Ant-Man and Dr. Strange movies. With both of these two sub-franchised just happening to be the one that this portion of the fandom have complained about for not having enough connectivity and spectacle. I fully respect MCU fans that are already excited for the next big end-of-saga event and one who wish that some movies have more connectivity, but self contained-regular releases are what give films like Infinity War and Endgame the weight and significance in addition to the scope and spectacle. The best parts of Quantumania for me were the beginning and end when we got to see Scott, Cassie, and the Pyms as a family now, and I felt that needed to constitute the entire first act instead of the first five to ten minutes. When I was watching the movie, It seemed like there was a first act about the Pym family and a second act about the world building of the people of the quantum realm that were completely cut out so we could hurry up and get the the Kang exposition. I also thought that MODOK was a good enough character for what he was given, but he was just there in addition to the empty setup. If Marvel focused on Quantumania as an individual production rather than an exposition piece, they could have had something of a double act where MODOK was the eccentric comic relief and Kang was the serious straight man. Like I said, Quantumania was not terrible but not great either for me, but I am incredibly frustrated that Marvel has hijacked another regular release in favor of empty groundwork for the Multiverse Saga. But with the entire Pym family serving this movie at the end, I hope that Marvel can take the opportunity for one last smaller, self-contained, and personal Ant-Man movie before Kang Dynasty.
I feel like the whole Janet situation about her not being worried in Ant-Man and the Wasp may be related to the fact that in Ant-Man and the Wasp, they weren't sending signals, they were just sending Scott inside (And Hank before that), so there was no way Kang could've detected it. Even on Quantumania, she was pretty chill about Cassie building the quantum manipulator UNTIL she heard it was sending signals. Before that, she had only heard it was a map of some sort. It wasn't until just after Cassie talked about signals that she started panicking.
I really hope they bring back M.O.D.O.K., he is easily a villain Marvel can use in multiple movies, like Loki. Although I love Corey Stoll, I would prefer who M.O.D.O.K. actually is, George Tarelton. I don’t care if it’s a Variant or if Kang just picks some random guy to take over the mantle, I want one of my favorite comic book character to have way more time in the spotlight.
I definitely agree there was a lot of missed potential with Scott and Cassie’s relationship. I feel like there are still ways to explore their disconnect even with this quantum realm storyline. Scott missed 5 years of his daughter’s life. She’s a completely different person now than the little girl he left behind. There’s so much potential there for emotional character arcs but it’s barely touched on at all. Instead, we get MODOK, easily the most embarrassing thing the MCU has ever done.
I personally enjoyed it It was a fun time I give it a 8/10 I honestly don’t see the hate to it I’m not one to hate the MCU I love ALL the projects being that said I don’t hate anything from the mcu but I don’t love everything either like éternels I’ve seen once I need to watch again but long story short I love the MCU and I always will this was a great set up to kang dynasty and I can’t wait to see it again Edit - the one negative I do have Is no Luis
I agree with a lot of what you said. But for me it wasn’t MODOK, it was just the uninspired nature of the quantum realm. It wasn’t a cool, jaw-dropping place for a movie to be set, it was like a bad episode of doctor Who, or a spy kids movie.
I couldn’t relate more to what you said about the out of theater excitement fizzling over the last couple of years. I told my dad after the movie that I just don’t remember the last time other than Spider-Man that I felt giddy and blown away after watching a marvel movie like I did in phases one through three.
I personally wish we got to explore this variant of Kang more.. The MCU is just killing off villains left and right and not allowing us to build any sort of relationship with the character.
Dylan Durrance Oh trust me, this Kang will be back. Don’t for a second believe he’s dead. His “death” was VERY similar to that of Darren’s “death” in Ant Man. I think he just shrunk down and vanished to another realm. My theory is that he’s either within the multiverse itself somewhere, or the Beyondverse. Either way, I definitely believe this specific Kang will return, along with the Council obviously
I got the sense that Cassie had significant help from Hank and Hope in building the device, yes she learned a lot and had the idea after reading Hanks journal, but it seemed like Hank and Hope were clearly helping. Also, why are so many people convinced that Kang is dead? I know the other variants mention it at the end but it seems like that could very easily be a misdirect
I think that MODOK had the potential to become the darth Maul of the mcu. He could hate ant man for turning him into a monster and becoming a slave to Kang and he could even trying to kill Cassie for revenge. But they made him a goofy character that died in the end.
In my opinion I loved Cassie’s character. Even if she did start off like that, she had a good character development from the middle to the end and she became way more likeable from the middle to the end so in my opinion she is a good character. She admitted her wrongs, apologized to her dad and she is nice. So that’s my hot take since there are people that don’t like Cassie so no one please don’t get mad at me for liking Cassie’s character, it’s just my own opinion and I respect all of your opinions for not liking her. Also Kathryn Newton that plays her did an amazing job, she’s really talented
I felt like this movie suffered greatly from the same issues that, Thor Ragnarok & Multiverse of Madness suffered from. There'll be a serious scene that has tension and building it up.. Only for it to throw a joke at us. Thus cutting the tension and undermining the entire scene...Just like Ragnarok. It felt like there was so much potential to show us a lot of interesting stuff and really explore the quantum realm... But it just gave us the most boring, uninteresting version of the world that we could have gotten...Like in Multiverse of Madness
I don't know what more u wanted to experience from the quantum realm. This was a great movie it was antman not avengers so keep your expectation according to the movie..
@@suzrysai6368I wasn't at all expecting an avengers movie. I was expecting an antman movie that was still goofy. But not THIS level of goofy. The humor is ONCE AGAIN too much. Maybe that's Disney's fault, I don't know. But they gotta learn to dial it back.. We don't need a joke thrown in our faces every 30 seconds. Just because it's an Ant-man movie. Doesn't mean they should be trying so hard to make us laugh. Which sadly has become a common re-occurring issue in the MCU. Every joke feels forced. Which messes with the tone and the characters.
Personally I think that they should have killed off a few major characters. That would establish Kang as a huge threat, and it would mean that the avengers movies would be a bit less crowded
I hear all your concerns about how this movie could've been in the real world and told a more personal story between Scott and Cassie. But honestly, the logical progression of the Ant-Man franchise for me had to be eventually them going into the Quantum Realm and spending the whole movie there, and what better movie to do it than the end of a trilogy. Put it this way, the quantum realm's been such an important part of every movie Scott's been in, there's no way they wouldn't have actually shown us the world.
5/10 in my books. Exactly what you expect from a middle of the road Marvel movie. It had some great moments, but a disappointing finale, MODOK was treated as a joke, and the Ant family beat Kang? Not very impressed as the start of phase 5 but I'll still with a 5/10.
i don’t know about modok’s CGI, I feel like it was better then I expected it to be, I thought it would be cheaply rendered stretched face, but it looked as good as they could’ve made it look, I think they should’ve saved modok for a later movie, where he could really fit the tone.
I enjoyed the movie. This is the first time since before Endgame that we actually got a tease of what’s to come. A view of the bigger picture. I’m so hype
I liked it and thought it was good, but definitely not great. Kang, Ant-Man, and Janet were all great, loved them, but I felt I definitely had some issues with the rest of it. When it was serious it was really good, but it REPEATEDLY undercut itself with bad humor, particularly with MODOK and the rebels. Also, it wasn’t even an Ant-Man and The Wasp film, Hope was disappointingly absent. Also, I totally agree that Cassie was a HUGE missed opportunity. For example, she says about the quantum telescope thing; “if I had built this while you were in the quantum realm I could’ve found you.” That would’ve been a good way to show that she wasn’t just naturally adept at Quantum science lol, she was desperate to learn whatever she could to find Scott. I personally really liked the first 2, and I do like this one, but it could’ve been much better. It’s a 7/10 for me personally.
I basically agree, it wasn't bad. If I was to watch it a second time I think the novelty and spectacle will wear off and it won't be no where near as good tbh
I think there was about 3-4 times in this movie I can remember when a character has 2 guards escorting them and they break free from the guards. Kang has this massive army and he can only spare 2 guys for his most valuable hostages? Even after they break free and then get captured again later?
I think the reason there feels like there’s a gap in Janet’s behavior after end game to this movie is because Scott got stuck in a time vortex so time basically didn’t move for him for 5 years and Janet spent 30 years in the QR
Hate how all the critics almost made me not watch the movie I honestly liked it I give it a 7/10 wish they didn’t just kill off MODOK and used him as a more serious villain he could have not been added to the movie and it wouldn’t have mattered wish the tone was more serious as what he said in his video
It feels like in every mcu movie they introduce a teenager who can create technology better than all the other established characters. First w shuri then iron heart and now Cassie.
What absolutely didn't make sense was how Janet was fine with Scott going into the Quantumrealm in the Ant Man and the Wasp post credit scene, but here she doesn't even want to here the word quantumrealm.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I gave it an 8/10. Could possibly lower to 7.5/10 after another watch but I enjoyed it. Worst part for me was the visual aesthetics of MODOK cause, like you said in the non-spoiler review, it felt like my eyes were going cross eyed. I’ve had vertigo twice in my life and man I felt the same way looking at him. I did not necessarily feel the tone was drastically changing but naturally changing. A lot of relatable humor aside from Modok. Tbh I just have never been a fan of Modok whether that’s in the comics or the Ultimate Alliance Game. Kang is….wow. I can say that based off what I have seen that I understand his motive and like his villain role more than Thanos as crazy as it sounds. Beginning and end of the movie was weird. I feel like there was a few cuts missing from both sides. What was even the point of the last scenes of the movie on Earth(yes I know the QR is still on Earth but smaller). If you cut that out the movie still goes the same. The beginning I wish we could have seen more of Cassie and be able to understand where she is coming from. I do understand why people can be confused why Janet would have her mood change about the QR suddenly in the beginning of this movie compared to the end of Ant-Man & The Wasp but it is possible that Janet was specifically giving Scott direction to a completely different part of the QR that Kang would not be able to find him or track them. It would be like if Aliens went to the edge of our solar system, in all likelihood we wouldn’t know and if we did then it would be way too late. Gotta remember the QR is like another universe and is huge. Michelle Pfeifer(Might be butchering the spelling) was great. Michael Douglas was solid. Hope….kinda disappointed in her role in her and Ant-Man’s movies. I mean The Wasp has always been important and sometimes more important than Ant-Man in the comics. They treat these movies like she’s a Nightwing to Ant-Man’s Batman if that makes any sense. If you titled this Ant-Man: Quantumania nobody would bat an eye cause they aren’t using her like a major character. She comes in to save the day but we have had little character development from her and that is one of the top issues i’ve had with the MCU. Again I enjoyed it. It felt like a Wizard of Oz type of vibe. New place with crazy people/creatures. Antagonist wants something from the Hero and their life and family are being threatened.
But that ending scene with Scot having those internal conversations was cool though. That he might have done something bad, what if everyone dies because of this and did they really kill him. It puts uncertainty even in our minds " is he really dead?" And i think he will come back most likely
I agree with the people who said that the visuals weren’t great at the beginning. But I think it was enjoyable but I feel like something’s missing within the final battle because I think it maybe should’ve been longer with Kang. Overall I think it is pretty good, 7.5/10
I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. Considering that the Ant Man movies have always had lots of humor, I didn't think the humor ruined it. I also thought they kept most of the Kang stuff serious without getting too jokey during it. Honestly liked it a lot.
For me the reason Cassie knows how to fight in the suit and such is because of Hank and Hope… they taught Scott in the first one and I feel like they had a part in it. We know at the start that they are in on it a bit it never really says they are helping but that’s how I think of it I guess.
My biggest question is how much time passed when they were in the quantum realm. With Janet it was around 30 years both on earth and quantum. With Scott it was only 5 hours when in reality it was 5 years. Please someone make it make sense
He wasn't in the quantum realm. He got stuck in a time worm hole on the way to the quantum realm. That's how the avengers were able to figure out time travel because of how he stuck in a time hole. So because of this he didn't have the same aging affects has Janet because he never actually made it all the way there.
I have now seen this movie. And I honestly did not mind it. In fact I liked it a lot. Some of what the critics say are true, but most of the issues people have with it I believe are from people going into the movie super hyped with expectations so high the movie couldn't possibly live up too those expectations. Like Eternals, I liked that movie. It's a good movie that moves the MCU plot forwards and sets up future movies. But it didn't live up to the hype that it was getting beforehand. Same with this movie. But overall I did not mind this movie at all.
I think with Modok's design they should have taken inspiration from Zola in winter soldier. In the comics Zola is a goofy face on the chest of a robot which would have taken away from the tone of the film so instead they made him a supercomputer in a bunker. I understand staying loyal to the original design but sometimes artistic deviation is necessary
I wish Kang had so much more screen time. The fist 50 minutes they kept mentioning Kang has “him” or “he’s coming” and a lot of scenes could’ve been cut and nothing would’ve changed. Same problem with Gorr, two awesome villains that could’ve been so much more.
I think Tony changed his will the day before. He had time to record his hologram among other things in case of his death, so he thought ahead what could happen. So he hoped the plan would work and bring everybody back, and in the case of his untimely death he updated his will just in case. So in that head canon far from home makes a lot more sense😃👍 He was optimistic that the plan would work and therefore he prepared Peter for a new life without him. That note was very short so if he hadn't die Tony would throw it away.
I actually really liked this film. The problem I have with the mcu now is phase 1-3 each character film had its own genre. The newer films all just feel the same with different characters. Also marvel have the same problem as star wars now, they are trying to aim their films at both kids and adults and thats hard to get right
Saw it last night, it was good I had fun with it. Modok wasn’t great, he was bad. And I didn’t like how they made Hank a comedic character. He was funny before because he was grumpy and annoyed by everything going on. Didn’t like how he was cracking jokes in the movies.
I liked the movie, thought it was a fun stuffed movie, Kang was a show stealer for sure, MODUK yes was a swing and miss joke. Marvel really gave us a big preview of Kang because we see that stadium filled with more dangerous looking Kangs.
It was a fine movie but I did feel like it was a little boring at times and the emotional moments really felt empty. I really enjoyed Paul Rudd and Jonathan majors. It just sucks that it seemed like they had to nerf kangs abilities so that ant man could contend with him at all. I think it would have been better if ant man was absolutely decimated and it wasn’t close but he does saving his family. The ants were realy freaking cool though loved seeing hank get a win like that
I think marvel nerfed down Kang honestly because this is isn’t even the biggest and baddest Kang, we saw at the end their is an entire stadium of Kangs.
In the post credit scene they had control and knew where Scott would be going in the quantum realm. Everything was under moderation to make sure it was safe. Cassie’s device was a signal just to the general quantum realm which could have reached anywhere
Your doing a better job with having interesting story concepts and themes that should play out in the story then the actual paid writers. Please get into the movie writing side of the movie industry Sean
to me i felt mostly bored until the very very end when all the ants show up to attack kang, everything after i was interested in also i noticed how come when Scott was in the quantum realm he said it felt like 5 hours but for Janet it was as if she was there for actually 30 years instead of 30 hours
This movie is getting way too much hate! Remember this is an ant man movie which is supposed to be ridiculous! If this wasn’t the movie to introduce the next “Thanos” this would’ve been no different then any of the other ant man movies… I am watching this before eternals, multiverse, and the Thor movie. Overall too much hate
Not gonna lie I hope the Ahsoka live action show has similar vibes… Thrawn out in the Unkown regions in the this “New Beyond”, and he needs something to escape with his new army he’s been building
Spoiler reviews are my favourite, because I never watch those movies (because of bad script-writing), but I enjoy the storytelling and long and thorough reviews of movies
I think the reason Janet was reacting differently to quantum realm stuff in this movie compared to endgame is because of specifically what was being done with the quantum realm. In endgame and ant man and the wasp, the quantum stuff was a short term travel through the realm or quickly collecting samples. In this movie, Cassie was specifically sending a signal down to the quantum realm and planning to do long term stuff there.
Okay hear me out and this is gonna be a hot take. This movie’s biggest problem is the tone. It’s the same thing with Thor 4 except kinda the opposite where this movie took itself too seriously sometimes when it didn’t need to. So here’s my hot take: The best solution to actually making this movie tonally consistent and in line with the franchise, Kang is the big fat wrench that didn’t need to be there. Especially with how they treated him at the very end DX. If MODOK was the big bad guy and Kang was the puppeteer (like something similar to the Thanos/loki dynamic of Avengers) I think this movie could’ve been a lot more entertaining and enjoyable to watch… If you fix the design and cgi on him.
I enjoyed most of the movie. Obviously, Kang and Johnathan Majors steal the show. I was glued whenever he was on screen. I also loved how weird the movie gets at times. Sure, it is random, but at points it really worked. There are some great visuals (and not so great visuals). The pacing is good and the whole story works. I do think the side characters aren’t memorable, the first act was the weakest part of the movie, MODOK was poorly executed, and I wanted more charm similar to the other movies. At the end of the day, however, this isn’t the worst MCU movie and is pretty enjoyable. I do understand why the reviews are the way they are, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. The post credits were awesome with the teases of the Kang variants. Bring on more Kang! My score is an 8/10.
Hey Sean 2 thoughts on the movie 1. for me Darron cross MODOK was like Topher Grace as Venom I like them when they are full suited in their character but they look is the problem whenever I try to take it seriously and if you remove them or edit them out of the movie the movie is MUCH MUCH better. 2. As far as the Quantum realm problem I didn't mind that because in the last 2 Ant-Man movies their a like different layers to the super small and that the quantum realm is not like 1 place their like a voyage downward like when they where shrinking you could see them passing through smaller more bizarre things and I think that since the Quantum realm is entirely outside of time their was like a area in between the real realm and the Quantum Realm where its kind of half in half, and in the first Ant Man he goes subatomic but returns to Cassie in almost real time I get why their a little bit of a plot hole their but that didn't bother me to much I agree with you I think the first act should have been longer to establish fuller character arcs and to expand on the relationship between the ant family. Overall still liked the film not perfect at all but I enjoyed it most of it and was neutral for the rest the whole way through B- would watch again
MODOK looks pretty ridiculous in any medium including the comics and I appreciate that the film embraced it I mean it is a comic book movie and I appreciate that the MCU has been embracing some of the more ridiculous and whacky side of the comics
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is kinda like an episode of your favourite TV show... not as good as other episodes, but you need it as well to understand the end. My cynical thoughts would be: Most of Quantumania is a directionless, poorly constructed, tention-less mess that doesn't know it's own tone, doesn't really give it's main character a definitive character arc any more than the Avengers movies and makes us (the audience) feel like we're still stuck in Phase 4, if not for Kang who finally gives the MCU the focus it needs. My more optimistic thoughts would be: The jokes weren't forced on Kang and they never made him look stupid in any way (Thank God). Though it suffers from the sickness that plagued Wakanda Forever (trying to do so much in one movie), Quantumania still doesn't really waste any time. It doesn't fully know where it's going, but it gets there quickly. That's it. Quantumania, 5.9/10. Marvel, please learn your lessons. Prioritise story over the comedy... and make it marvellous!... like you used to 😔
Re:why Janet was okay with Scott in the QR in post-credits scene: there are different levels to the QR/QR is large enough that Kang wouldn't detect Scott. It would explain why various people did/didn't experience time travel.
For me it's a 7/10. I liked quite a bit of stuff and there was also a lot that didn't work for me. Jonathan Majors as Kang was the absolute standout for me and I really felt like Kathryn Newton as Cassie was a great addition to the cast. I adored the world building of the Quantum Realm and that kind of world building was what I originally wanted from Multiverse of Madness. But I wanted a lot more from it especially because this was supposed to be a big introduction to Kang. I needed more darkness and higher stakes for it to feel like a necessary story and then they decided to defeat Kang with ants and immediately killed him off and so the movie felt fun but really unnecessary. I wanted more from Scott and Cassie's relationship because a lot of it felt really surface level (I generally found there to be a lack of character development throughout the movie). And one of the most frustrating things about the movie for me was Janet. Her not telling them anything felt like such an overused and tired trope and a lot could have been avoided if there was either a reason for her to not tell them anything (other than her wanting to protect them because that's the usual justification) or her actually being honest.
I felt like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was mostly a good film, but I had a few issues. 1. I felt like the movie was too short. The movie could have easily been 2.5 hours if more backstory was given to Janet or Kang. Or even just a clear vision of how Scott is doing after the events of Endgame and his work (we could have had his friends back to). We could have also been shown a progression of Scott and Janet's relationship. I feel like the 1st part of the film went too fast and if Marvel took some more time for the 1st part of the film, in San Fransico, the film could have been way better going into the Quantum Realm. 2. I am very confused with Janet's time in the Quantum Realm. Cassie is sending "signals" deep into the Quantum Realm and then Janet snaps. The first scene of the movie got me confused as time went on. Where was Janet in the Quantum Realm, deep in or not? Hank was able to save Janet in the Quantum Realm without any "signals", but "signals" became a thing in the next movie. It got me really confused. 3. I hate the reliance on comedy and humor in this movie. It is ok if it has some humor here and there, that won't hurt, but when it is repeating humor, it gets a bit annoying. When the tension was building for an hour while everyone was exploring the Quantum Realm and the tensions of Kang kept building, comedy shot down that tension. In the final battle, same thing with MODOK. I also felt like the trailers revealed too much as we all knew what was coming in the movie. If the trailers didn't reveal Kang, it would have been a gamble, but it would have payed off. If the humor and comedy didn't interfere in the Quantum Realm scenes, the movie would have been way better. The humor in San Fransico is very fine to me. If I had to rate this film, I would give it a solid 7. This movie has improved a lot compared to other MCU projects. Did it start Phase 5 off with a smash? A little bit, but I had my issues.
@@jasonnelson5251 Well, she's that as well. But it's the trope of the Mary Sue (flawless in character and ability, no weaknesses) that Cassie fits perfectly.
I’m gonna say the simple explanation for Janet being cool with the original quantum research (such that led to endgame) is given the second hank talks to her in the quantum realm, stating that he’s never seen this stuff in all his research, and she replied that he didn’t look deep enough and elaborates a little further. Yea it’s a small explanation, but I think the point is she wouldn’t have let them go further. I will say the fact that she smashes the machine before saying “hold on, let’s talk about this” is a lazy explanation for how the movie starts, and not writing a good reason why Janet, who lives with hank, would have NO idea what hank and Cassidy have been up to.
I agree with a lot of what you said, but the plot hole with Janet in the post credit scene not being scared of the quantum realm can be explained with Loki. When Janet was in the quantum realm, He who remains from the end of loki was keeping the multiverse and all the other Kangs at bay. Sylvie kills him, and now all of the sudden it’s like he who remains had never been trimming the multiverse. Janet’s history has changed because now all the Kangs throughout time and space exist, and the conqueror was exiled to the quantum realm. I’m not sure if that makes any sense in writing, Feige really needs to give us some sort of proper explanation of how this all works so we don’t have to piece it together
Something I noticed early on that kind of bothered me with the mechanics of Pym particles was Hank's use of drops to enlarge a mini pizza into one to feed the whole family. It's funny for the nanosecond before you realize that Ant-Man could have solved world hunger! 🤔
35:22 Yeah, I leaned over to my dad and quoted one of my favorite Dr. Evil lines: "No I'm just gonna leave them to die and hope everything went to plan." Or at the very least, I just commented in general about Kang not bothering to check that his enemies are dead.
Hey Sean just thought you should do a ranking of all the mcu projects since endgame because ant man and the wasp quantum mania makes it 20th since endgame (if you include I am groot and all the disney plus shows)
For me I liked it fine. I agree with you on it being a wired direction for the ant-man franchise. What I like about the ant-man movies is him interacting in the real world. (Making cars into hot wheels cars, giant people ect.) When you put them in the quantum realm, it takes away some of the fun. It feels like it's trying to be guardians of the galaxy with the different world.
22:18 in the ant man 2 post credit scene i’m pretty sure they say they are sending him to the quantum realm to get particles so they can study it, I think that’s why Janet is on with it
I think the explanation for why Janet wasn’t concerned about the quantum realm in Ant-man and the wasp was explained in a line or two when she said that there was a world deeper in the realm. Perhaps they weren’t sending Scott down to the part that was actually inhabited.
I actually was kind of liking the adaption of M.O.D.O.K. into this film for the first half of his introduction. Saying that Darren Cross became all physically mangled and was rebuilt into this was an interesting idea. I was also ok with A FEW jokes being made about his look because he is an inherently goofy character. He seemed to have a hint of insanity to him and I was curious to see what they did with him. However, they completely ruined it at the end by trying to redeem him. They definitely shouldn’t have killed him either. He could have escaped from the quantum realm and started AIM.
My favorite part was definitely when all the ant men started working together like ants. It’s one of the few times the visuals looked really good.
Yep it was an amazing sequence.
I feel like MODUK is the sole reason for the bad criticism, because Kang was the show stealer while MODUK was a joke.
And then kang went and popped his ward of dawn for that weapons of light

"Cassie Lang was able to build this in a basement! With a box of scraps!"

7.5 for me. I really enjoyed it. I thought they handled MODOK as good as they could have. He's a wildly ridiculous character and I never thought he could be a main villain. I personally like that they used Darren. It made sense.
Also, I love the fact that they used the comic look. I didn’t know they were, and it looked as weird as I imagined 😂
MCU sheep

“He’s stopping worse Kangs from conquering” so true !!!
I have a strong feeling this Kang will return in Kang Dynasty and ultimately end up victorious over the others
In regards to the Council of Kang’s, the three main ones there were Immortus (the one with a raspy type voice and the emperor looking clothes. Then finally the one in the Loki scene was Victor Timely, who was Kang Prime who time traveled back to the past to set up his future rule
All in all, despite its flaws, I really loved this movie and would give it a 8.5/10. The future of the MCU is very bright imo
I mean, his engine was called the multiversal core - so i think he got sucked right into the multiverse itself. Could mean basically anything
Yeah I understand the hate for the film, but I was burned out on the MCU and now I’m super excited for the future
@@maday5-019Just saw it, I’m convinced MODUK sunk the movie with all the critics.
yes this all sets up avengers 5. Where are Thor, Wanda and Captain Marvel when you need him because the avengers will need them in this huge multiverse war.
Great in-depth analysis of Kang and his variants!
My Spoiler Thoughts
Scott Lang Post-Endgame: Pretty much agree with everything you said.
I mean yes, Ant-Man and the Wasp was written way before they had any ideas on what this movie would be like, but still, it's frustrating, I feel like this could've been somewhat fixed with a few lines of dialogue, but no, we just have to get straight to the Quantum Realm in this movie
Star Wars of the MCU: Not much here.
In the end, the movie was fun, but poorly paced and I just wish they went in a different direction
I gave it a B
Fun, well-made movie, but should've been a lot better
Great comment that deserves more likes!
I agree with everything you said.
@@lukerota1547 thank you 🙏🏻
I think this Kang was the He Who Remains reset because at the end of Loki he said he’ll end back on top anyway.
Just watched it and thought kang being killed was pretty good. He was destroyed by his own creation and his craving for conquering.
My personal opinion:
Ant man and the wasp Quantumania was amazing.
I personally enjoyed it
It was a fun time I give it a 8/10 I honestly don’t see the hate to it
I’m not one to hate the MCU I love ALL the projects being that said I don’t hate anything from the mcu but I don’t love everything either like éternels I’ve seen once I need to watch again but long story short I love the MCU and I always will this was a great set up to kang dynasty and I can’t wait to see it again
Edit - the one negative I do have

I agree with a lot of what you said. But for me it wasn’t MODOK, it was just the uninspired nature of the quantum realm. It wasn’t a cool, jaw-dropping place for a movie to be set, it was like a bad episode of doctor Who, or a spy kids movie.
I watched it yesterday... It was fun but I had some certain issues with it... i'd give it a 6.9/10
I couldn’t relate more to what you said about the out of theater excitement fizzling over the last couple of years. I told my dad after the movie that I just don’t remember the last time other than Spider-Man that I felt giddy and blown away after watching a marvel movie like I did in phases one through three.
Been waitin’ for this one. Let’s go!!
OMG, you (Sean Chandler) is so right about many of the plot holes about Quantumania... but I still luv the movie cause it's super entertaining 🤩
6/10 for me, just for Kang
I personally wish we got to explore this variant of Kang more.. The MCU is just killing off villains left and right and not allowing us to build any sort of relationship with the character.
Dylan Durrance Oh trust me, this Kang will be back. Don’t for a second believe he’s dead. His “death” was VERY similar to that of Darren’s “death” in Ant Man. I think he just shrunk down and vanished to another realm. My theory is that he’s either within the multiverse itself somewhere, or the Beyondverse. Either way, I definitely believe this specific Kang will return, along with the Council obviously
No chance this Kang is dead. He'll be the final boss Kang for the Avengers to take down
When Modak revealed his face I laughed really loud in theaters thinking it was hilarious and the rest of the theater was dead quite
The movie wasn’t terrible like some people said but it didn’t blow me away. 5/10
Saw the movie last night and I didn’t enjoy it. I don’t feel like Kang is really a threat and I agree there should had been more consequences
This right here. Kang has now died in every project he's appeared in and hasn't killed anyone or made a presence.
Jonathan Majors is so good in his role as Kang that I felt bad for him when Janet found out that he is evil.
The mcu has a real problem recently with making just randomly smart teenagers.
I really really liked this one. I thought it was funny and charming, nothing special and not devoid of flaws but a good time.
It was okay movie for me. I liked it but definetely not top movie. 7,5/10 I think.
I’d give it an 8/10, it was good imo
Yea I actually enjoyed it and I didn't care for any of the 3 offerings from last year I was pleasantly surprised
Ehhh, it was fun nothing more nothing less. I’d say a 6/10 personally
Sheep 🐑 3.5 movie.
@@YaBoyCori how am I a sheep for having an opinion?
Really enjoyed this movie a lot.
Hate how all the critics almost made me not watch the movie I honestly liked it I give it a 7/10 wish they didn’t just kill off MODOK and used him as a more serious villain he could have not been added to the movie and it wouldn’t have mattered wish the tone was more serious as what he said in his video
@@damaribrackett1159totally agree, thing is MODUK has always been a humor comedy comic book character, once Kang was introduced he stole the show.
@@jamesjamaica7189 ok thank you for clearing that up
I have now seen this movie.
But Kang is gonna be in plenty of other movies. Gorr is most likely never returning
I know right! Cassie has no development and she just comes off as ANNOYING
I’ve been waiting for this spoiler review, and you did not disappoint!
I honestly agree with everything you said.
to me i felt mostly bored until the very very end when all the ants show up to attack kang, everything after i was interested in
also i noticed how come when Scott was in the quantum realm he said it felt like 5 hours but for Janet it was as if she was there for actually 30 years instead of 30 hours
The problem with rotten tomatoes and metacritic is that so many people just downvote because they don't like franchise or movie
Not gonna lie I hope the Ahsoka live action show has similar vibes… Thrawn out in the Unkown regions in the this “New Beyond”, and he needs something to escape with his new army he’s been building
I didn't like it, I really didn't like the tone, I really miss the one from the first three phases. My vote is 5.4
Spoiler reviews are my favourite, because I never watch those movies (because of bad script-writing), but I enjoy the storytelling and long and thorough reviews of movies
If MODOK was the big bad guy and Kang was the puppeteer (like something similar to the Thanos/loki dynamic of Avengers) I think this movie could’ve been a lot more entertaining and enjoyable to watch…
If you fix the design and cgi on him.
Same I feel like MODUK and the silly jokes the first 30 minutes is the reason for those bad reviews, MODUK was a joke
This is a fantastic review. Maybe my favourite of yours, nailed every point
Hey Sean 2 thoughts on the movie
1. for me Darron cross MODOK was like Topher Grace as Venom I like them when they are full suited in their character but they look is the problem whenever I try to take it seriously and if you remove them or edit them out of the movie the movie is MUCH MUCH better.
2. As far as the Quantum realm problem I didn't mind that because in the last 2 Ant-Man movies their a like different layers to the super small and that the quantum realm is not like 1 place their like a voyage downward like when they where shrinking you could see them passing through smaller more bizarre things and I think that since the Quantum realm is entirely outside of time their was like a area in between the real realm and the Quantum Realm where its kind of half in half, and in the first Ant Man he goes subatomic but returns to Cassie in almost real time I get why their a little bit of a plot hole their but that didn't bother me to much
I agree with you I think the first act should have been longer to establish fuller character arcs and to expand on the relationship between the ant family. Overall still liked the film not perfect at all but I enjoyed it most of it and was neutral for the rest the whole way through B- would watch again
MODOK looks pretty ridiculous in any medium including the comics and I appreciate that the film embraced it
I mean it is a comic book movie and I appreciate that the MCU has been embracing some of the more ridiculous and whacky side of the comics
@Do Good I think MODOK was made ridiculous looking on purpose😂
Great commentary on Cassie's character Sean! I thought the same thing
I Had Fun But It Did Have Issues 🎥 7/10
Hey sean another problem with the film is the wasp 🐝 she didn’t do as much work in the movie 🎥
37:01 I love how you're desperately trying not to call Cassie a "Mary Sue", when clearly that's exactly what she is.
Ha, nice call. I was thinking woke.
35:22
Yeah, I leaned over to my dad and quoted one of my favorite Dr.
