Hi, Mark! Looks and sounds like a great layout to come. I am sure adjustments will come as you go along and new ideas hit, but you are well-grounded and off to a flying start!

Hi Mark good plans for the layout. Don't really know what ideas I would come up with other than what you've got. Less is more but as we all do we want to include as much as possible for interest. All that I would think about is transporting it to shows. Scenics, different levels of track etc could be damaged and the more you include the heavier it becomes. Look forward to seeing it progress cheers Andy

Thanks Andy, have been thinking about transporting so going to try and make it as robust as possible.

They are some brilliant ideas but the plans you mention makes me think it could be too much track, but for a Exhibition layout to get kids involved think it a good idea to have too much track, great update

Thanks Simon, I am keeping an open mind on it so I can make changes as the build progresses.

    Hi Mark,
    Looking good.
OK, letting the public run the trains; Brave man.
    If it were me, I'd:-
limit the speed the locos can run at.
Ensure that there is no way that the TMD and Engine shed tracks can cross.
I presume you're thinking of giving people 'set pieces' of tasks to perform rather than just running back and forth.
A remote decoupler and a (simple) shunting puzzle, that sort of thing.

and yes, I had to Google TMD 😀

Thanks Tom some useful ideas there will be using them.

Hi Mark All sounds good to me, if you are going to exhibit the layout you may ned lots of storage tracks to serve a constant 'service' as it were, although I think I would add a canal scene maybe next to the 009 track as an 'industy' to give some more scenic options. Although you siad you wanted at TMD and an Engine shed, could the two not be combined in some way (?). Just a few thoughts. But its your layout, do what you feel is best. Thanks

    Hi Mark.
    Looks like a brilliant plan.
Don't make the Same mistake as me though, I'm having to re design part of my layout after the scenics have gone down.
It's to do with the radius, I tested the track with a Hardy little loco, do it with something like a warship, not much turning on the boggies. Bachmann locos not as forgiving as hornby. Just keep testing with the bigger locos.
    Radius 3 is excellent.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but thought it was worth mentioning.
    Stay safe buddy.
    Pete.

Great plans butyou ask for ideas,
Given you're including a 009 fpr narrow gauge Donegal why not have the main 00 layout somewhere compatible like London/derry to act as passenger interchange to the 009: the two double tracks from a terminus (?L/Derry) being (1) existing line via Coleraine> Belfast and (2) the now closed line via Strabane>Portadown. Possibly also incorporating liveries for both NIR and CIE latter for a fictional direct service London/derry to Dublin like exists Belfast-Dublin today.. Former to be main terminus both lines.

@@DonegalDadRail Glad you liked idea. Depending on logistics maybe could also have second syayion at Strabane so the 009 could also go Donegal- Strabane-L/Derry asm in days of yore.

Looks good, sir. are the trains going up the incline, coming back down the same incline with a loop at the top? I've been trying to get a single line incline up and a single line incline down from the 'Upper Level' so the trains can come back down without reversing down the incline they came up. I hope the mis-alignment is nothing serious and that all's good. Excellent work, and as we've had a chance to see the build happening so far, it looks like a stunning lay-out, for sure. The OO9 circuit is a nice touch. All the best, sir and here's to seeing what you've got in store with the scenic side of things. Thanks Mark. All the best. Cheers!

Hi Mark, sounds like a good plan, have you mapped it out on any software, Anyrail or similar? I found that really helpful when planning Amberlea. Chris

    • @DonegalDadRail
      @DonegalDadRail  6 месяцев назад +1

Yes I use Anyrail, I like to plan it out on paper and then use anyrail to see how it fits together.
