Stokely has the absolute best, by far, side arm instruction I’ve ever seen anywhere, especially that video he posted 11-12 years ago that mentioned the article he did in some disc golf magazine. I struggled to learn side arm until I found his content. Now, I can rip a sidearm better than any other old guy!!
Great vid! Explains perfectly why occasionally I can't seem to generate any, well, "core-strain", and end up throwing only with the arm. I've understood it's a timing issue but have thought of it in terms of arm vs. torso. Not hips vs torso & arm. It makes so much more sense now!
Thanks for the knowledge Scott! I've been playing since 96. Always considered myself an above average player. My 13 yr old son is crushing the disc past mine and I need to study up and work on my technique.
A huge aspect of making sure to utilize your core is also throwing out your lower back. We want our spine in alignment, and when we jerk twist without following hips to shoulders we can really mess up our backs.
I recently started experimenting with a baseball pitcher windup and throw, and it sure seems like I picked up some distance. It seems to force the “mechanical chain” (hips, shoulder, arm, wrist) into action. Have you ever seen anyone try that, or tried it yourself?
In his clinics he explains that a good forehand should feel like throwing a baseball. Not everyone is a pitcher, but the same idea of throwing a baseball sidearm far with that body-whip motion applies.
@ Cool. I’ve never seen anyone do the whole pitch routine, picking up the leg and then dropping it and coming through just like a pitcher, but so far so good.

2019 quarterly PDGA magazine thing right?
Did you leave out”the best” in your statement? It read weird. I agree with you
Facts!!!
Just listening to Scott talk for two hours in person and applying what he taught made my forehand usable and improved my form and consistency.

I remember when I finally started bombing forehands, my oblique on the opposite side of my dominant arm was getting ridiculously sore.
Looved, thnx!!! (Edit: What i got> don't forget to also engage and flex the torso "coil" !)
Slick shirt, love the big graphic !
I am SMASHING some forehands with my Cardinal. Love that thing! I still need to learn how to aim it better though.
Ty, great instruction. Will it get me 50+ ft?
It’ll had 100 ft easy!
Any chance you'll visit Austria sometime? I'd love to take lessons.
100% I will some day!!!!

It took me months to get hips and shoulders separation. But once I did, I was launching.
