It would be very easy to be an "I am this or that" after the success of The Spinners, but Mr Edwards comes across as a very humble and thankful man; an excellent interview with a real gentleman...
I can say from personal contact, that John is been exactly that, and was brought on to replace Phillipe Wynn after he self-absorbedly quit in 1977 over naming rights. With John and his remarkable vocal style and range, The Spinners moved on to their next plateau of success. "Working My Way Back To You" and "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time" were perfectly produced for the Disco era.
