Thanks for the video. I'm troubleshooting why my '96 S10 will cool like crazy, and then turn around and not cool and the only change was that I killed the engine, went in a store, and came out and went home. This is an absolute great start for me.

Thanks for the video! You’re the only one who showed on the actuator,s location. I have a 1994 s10 and the blend door is stuck open. Still boggles my mind as to why gmc design 1994-1997 year dash this way. Now I need to get a dremel tool to remove that section.

I just got someone with small hands to push the blend door to the cold side. Works great

Toby Thank You! If you are not a teacher you should be. You sounded as though you were having fun. I learned a lot today from your video, in fact all I needed to know about my 96 S-10 blend door actuator and most certainly that unbelievable shortcut, "worth the watch by itself". You made my day better! I live in Texas, summer is here and dang if I don't have to change my actuator. Nothing but heat here.
Also I don't want to remove my dash, again.

Toby, that big bundle of wires creates a huge problem because it sits directly over a screw that needs to be removed and it's got to be raised high enough to remove the actuator. I can pull that bundle toward me enough to feel the screw, but getting a tool to remove the screw over the top is unlikely and under the bundle, I'm not sure it's possible either. OK.... it appears if I can get enough slack in the BIG bundle of wires in order to push that bundle to the firewall I can get a socket and a small rachet on the screw. Getting the slack I need is the challenge. You also need that bundle out of the way to pop the actuator up to remove it. You are right, it's not going to be easy. @ small blocks of wood set to either side of the actuator cut to the right length wedged in should hold that bundle of wires pushed toward the firewall. Giving me the clearance I need to remove the screw and the actuator. OK....what I discovered was I could not push the wires toward the firewall enough to get clearance to remove the screw. So instead I looped a cotton clothesline rope by going up through the ashtray after removing the tray looping the rope around the wires and back through the opening of the removed ashtray pulling the wires toward me. Then using a deep 7/32's socket with my fingers loosened the screw and removed it. Removing the actuator took more time than reinstalling it. I used hot melt glue to mount the piece I removed to access the actuator.

I’m sure this is a dumb question but how do I figure out if my temperature knob panel is bad? The knobs will turn all the way around and not stop now. I can’t get my fan or anything to blow now. I replaced the blender door actuator a few years ago. It’s stuck on hot now. I have to manually turn it when I don’t want heat. Thanks in advance your video is great.

Sounds like the knob switch is broken internally. Is it the temp. knob that goes around and around?

So if it’s not a digital readout then I would need a manual actuator? I have a 99 Blazer with the same looking dials and think I bought the wrong part. The auto actuator was $147 but the manual one is only $44.99. Thanks for the info. ✌🏽

a little late but yes you would need the Manual one. Auto actuator has 5 pins and manual has 4 pins.

my 1996 Blazer with the A/C on cold and the fan to high works perfect blows very cold for about a minute then the extreamly loud noise comes from the center of the dash i can even see a voltage drop in the lights on the cluster. now while its screaming if i turn the fan down two clicks it stops but can barely feel any air coming out of the vents. if i turn it down one more click there is no air flow what so ever. i hope one of you guys can tell me what to replace and thank you ahead of time for your response

I have inherited a 96 S10 and the heater blower fan does not push heat through the vents. It only blows thru the defrost and the floor vents. I can change the heat temperature too... Do you have any idea what is causing this? Great video.

@Scott Lawder hey partner I had the same exact problem your having with my 1996 GMC jimmy SLE about 6months back, I found a video called (HVAC in an S10 blazer full system repair) it helped me figure out how to take my dash apart after watching it like 20 time's but my problem was my HVAC vacuum actuator was bad but in the process of pulling my whole dash apart I noticed by actually looking at the HVAC door, that it was cracking so I replaced that as well as all of the vacuum actuators just too be sure I don't have the problem again and I haven't, sorry if this piece of info is too late or not I hope you get yours working again partner.
