While the Blackwing 602 was used by a lot of people, it was because it was 1) just a popular brand and easy to get 2) A stenographer's pencil that produced a dark line with less pressure. This isn't that pencil. The brand closed down when their ferrule making machine broke. The Palomino Blackwing is using different wood, a different formula eraser, different paint and crucially a different lead - But that's OK, it's *good* - I have bought a couple of boxes. however the only thing it shares in common with the original pencil is that it is a pencil, and that it has the same type of ferrule. Palomino was also smart enought o know that hipsters would glomp onto the notion that they could achieve some sort of second hand magic effect by using the ''same" pencil as talented people. The way Moleskine, a 20 year old company that makes cheap notebooks in China likes to intimate that they're the notebook of Hemmingway and Van Gogh.
Thanks..for sharing!!! I used to love these pencils when I was a kid. So glad to find them again. My father was an animator for Jay Ward ( Bullwinkle fame) , Chuck Jones, Ray Patin, among many others. ...my mother was a graphic artist. These pencils were well used in our household. Besides the great graphite, the erasers were such better quality then the ones now that shred the paper. Are these erasers still smooth?
Beautiful drawing I wish I had one.. the answer is Chuck jones he used to do that with black wing pencils and very good animations indeed. Many Hollywood Composers across the world like Leonard Bernstein ,John williams, and other used Black wings.
Hi Stayf, the answer is CHUCK JONES. I would really love to win a set of these pencils. Heard a lot of great things about them for quite some time, but never had a chance to get them in my location. :D
Which graphite pencils do you best advice me to use in your personal opinion? The Palomino or the Staedtler? I keep hearing plenty of people that the Staedtler is one of the best graphite pencils to use. Thanks so much!
Hello Fred, the best way to find out to test them out yourself. That is what I always do. Always looking for that perfect Pencil. To me it is the Blackwing 602. But for you It could be a different Pencil.
I found the names on the site of Palomino. The only two women that are mentioned are Faye Dunaway and Michelle Williams. palominobrands.com/blackwing-pop-culture/
Hi, Stayf! Chuck Jones wants me to have those pencils :-) I just received Newsletter 3. Wanted to let you know the links to the first two newsletters bring up a blank page. Looking forward to reading them.
They answer is Chuck Norris. he was famous for wielding his Black Wing... No just kidding, it was Chuck Jones. Now hand over that magnificent pencil :) and congrats on being nr1!
I hate these blackwings, especially with the heavy, unbalanced eraser and glossy finish. Sure the lead itself is nice but a lead holder is far superior

You are indeed correct! My mind keeps playing the ''find the perfect'' game XD I believe it's all about personal preference but thanks!
Were there any women that used these pencils? You listed only men. What about Mary Blair? (Disney animator and artist).
