One of, if not, the finest movie I have ever seen. Due, to a great extent to the superb illustration of Mozart's genius by Sir Neville Mariner's rendering of his music.

... the organic unity achieved in this motion picture is remarkable*🎶... however:
      a) too much 'chiaroscuro' (effects/tone) is added with regards Salieri, the 'mediocrity'; an opera composer who had, apparently impressed Beethoven,
      b) given, thus, 'intertextuality', {social issues of our times, valid with regards film theory, etc.} makes the art work*🖼️,
c)...Dr Max Horkheimer once described aspects of popular culture as "... rubbish..." He was probably right, however one should not dismiss the discovery of value judgements...📚😎🌈
      🎼 all the best...

How brilliant was F Murray Abraham as Salieri in Amadeus? If i had to choose one performance, BY ANY ACTOR, as the finest in cinematic histiry, this would be it. Flashing back and forth in every scene from idolatry to bitter hatred. Questioning why an obscene, giggling little "creature" should be god's instrument on earth. That is a feeling common to most of us. We witness these supremely gifted individuals that never realize that to whom much is given, much is expected. That is at the core of this incredible film. As the elder Salieri, Abraham takes it to an unfathomable level. Poignant, funny and tragic. All at the same time. The irony is that Salieri was regarded as a great teacher in his time. His knowledge of music was vast. Some of his students included Beethoven and Mozart himself!! The closing scene in Amadeus may be the finest ever filmed. "I will speak for you father. I speak for all mediocrities in the world. I am their champion. I am their patron saint." UNREAL. Waving as he is wheeled away to everyone in the asylum. "Mediocrities everywhere i absolve you. I absolve you." The greatest lesson in this film is that we are all essentially flawed. And the greatest absolution is the absolution we owe to ourselves. A lesson Salieri omitted to himself.

@@vladimirazubcekova7727Okay, I see your point. I was speaking about Salieri, not the Movie.
But from my own point of view (which is the only point of view I can represent) I could not hum a Salieri tune if my life depended on it -- I've listened to a lot of it, but I've never heard anything catchy.
Furthermore, I think the movie (and the play on which the movie is based) in fact revived interest in Salieri's work, not the opposite you suggest. The movie spurred great popular curiosity in Salieri.
Finally, about the movie: it is also a piece of art. Shakespeare's "Richard III" is widely panned by scholars as a tainted historical narrative, but it stands alone and importantly as a compelling fiction, and fountainhead of cultural value. Amadeus too is fictitious, but simultaneously appealing and intrigues people to discover not only the works of Mozart and Salieri, but classical music, period costume and art and architecture, and even film and playwriting themselves. It is a vital film, which happens to be fictitious.

An absolute tour de force, both the movie and acting. Just a gem that rekindled broad interest in not only classical music but also period movies. Shame that Tom Hulce didn't receive an Oscar for his efforts, but Abraham's Salieri was as fine a performance I've ever seen - again and again.
