Made my night, got all giddy when the notification popped up, I even turned the golf off to watch 😂
Ha ha thanks man! That means so much!! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 😀 it means a lot!
New set of plates and buff the headlights. Job done. Cracking job so far.
And some posh furry dice for posh lad Matt.😁👍
Ha ha you know him well! 🤣
Great work guys, she’s getting there!
Not a mechanic but have seen plenty of people talk about checking the stepper motor for the vacuum system and also resetting the throttle potentiometer? If the flame trap was choked as in the video the stepper might be the same?
Fingers crossed guys, looking forward to hearing the outcome!
Keep up the good work guys, videos are great and you have a whole community hooked on this Rangie!! 👍👍
Thanks mate, she definitely needs more investigation ha ha im gonna reach out to a guy that restores these on RUclips and see if he'll do like a zoom call and see what he thinks to it
All my experience with classic range rovers and land rovers has been with the 3.5 v8 and all on carbs. The maf not being Lucas sound's like a good shout especially if the covering of the intake makes a difference. Its not my money but if it was id chuck a new one on and its future proofed it becoming an issue down the road. Keep em coming fellas 👊
I mean that one is brand new from a range rover/ landrover parts supplier but one of the subscribers has had issues with these aftermarket afm's, we are running out of options tho ha ha 😂
@TransformotionVR
Always a mission when there's a fault on these older RR's. Did this engine used to run perfectly in the time Matt has owned it? I can't remember. Andy's idea of another YT creator who works on these could be a good idea. Maybe even a collaboration 🤔
Keep smiling boyz your doing a great job 💯
I think matts dad said it did run to where it was parked but he didn't say how well as it runs now so could have been the same
This Range Rover is really coming together now, excellent restoration , well done guys.
Hopefully the engine running issue will be resolved soon ❤.
Ha ha let's hope so! 🤣🤣 it's getting there now 😁
Onwards and upwards. Matt has found the A Team, and you both will be able to sort out the running and get it roadworthy and working. Another brilliant video
Thanks mate, we appreciate the confidence ha ha im sure we'll get it running properly soon 👍
Cracking job lads, it's coming along nicely. I hope these Sunday morning coffee runs Matt is wanting it for, there's a few cuppas coming your way.
Ha ha let's hope so! I want Starbucks too....with an almond croissant ha ha 😂
Brilliant, fascinating video guys.
It will be a cracking LR once it’s done.
Matts going to be ‘massively overspent’ but well worth it.
Yeah he's going to have a few quid in it but I think he'll like it when it's done
Thanks for mentioning my Channel guys! A bummer that the previous owner welded it to the rocker cover! haha!
Great video!
No worries mate! Thanks for your suggestion, I hope a few people took the time to look at your channel 😀 if there's anything else you can think of make sure you let us know ha ha 😂
@@TransformotionVR seems that it was running a bit better but not 100% 😅 yes, was like 20-30 people subscribing so big thanks 🙏🏻
As I mentioned before and someone else suggested in the comments, the stepper motor can be removed and cleaned. Located at the back of the plenum. As far as I understand it controls the idle and throttle in some way. You can just unscrew it with 2 or 3 bolts, clean it with brake cleaner and put it back in 😊 or replace it ofc..
hope you can get it to run well soon 😅
No worries mate, we should all be trying to help each other like that anyway, it didn't cost us anything, you gained a few subs and we got a possible cause to our problem so win win really! I'll look into that stepper motor mate! Thanks 👍 😊
Alright chaps, nice progress on the RRC the underside is looking lovely. As I mentioned in the last video regarding the AFM, those cheap ones aren't fit for purpose what's happening when you put your hand over the intake and rev it is it's starving the engine of air temporarily improving the way it runs because that AFM will be leaning out the mixture. Mine came fitted with a non genuine AFM and it ran really rich as it had completely failed I replaced it with another non genuine one and it ran exactly like yours does in this video, extremely lean and un-drivable backfiring through the intake. This had me thinking up all sorts of issues like worn timing chain/cams, dizzy etc... I acquired the Rovergauge software to read live data and that's when it became apparent what was going on with my non genuine AFM. At idle on a non cat car the voltage should be approximately 1.5v and it was 2.2v on mine, I adjusted it on the screw which by the way is just a screw soldered to a variable resistor and not even connected so turning it made no difference I had to pop the lid off to adjust it to the correct voltage and still no improvement. I took a gamble and bought a second hand Lucas/Hitachi 3AM unit on eBay and it instantly fixed the problem🙄
I dont suppose you're anywhere close to the North west in the uk are you? Ha ha 😂 id love to borrow one to see if this fixes our problem.
If it turns out not to be the AFM there may be an air leak on the inlet manifold.
We've give it a spray with brake cleaner and the revs didn't pick up
I might be able to get to you guys in a couple of weeks, I'm in West Yorkshire, it depends how desperate you are. I'll bring my laptop and a working Lucas AFM off my car but it's going to be a couple of weeks.
That might work if you could mate, we've got other stuff we can be doing on it I reckon ha ha 😉
11:37 is that a South Africa 🇿🇦 accent, im from South Africa 🇿🇦 too bro 😎 well now I’m in the UK 🇬🇧 too. As always boys keep up the great content and hard work.
Nice one mate! Well give you sub for following us, and thanks for watching 😉
My 1991 Sl300 has the same issue after winter storage. Lumpy idle and engine cuts out if it get to much accelerater. After running it on the motorway for 1 hour it frees out and runs sweet. Might be work leaving it idle for an hour with fresh fuel and fuel additive. Love the videos and the project 👍
Does it run good all the time now or does it take an hour each time? This has brand new fuel in it and all the fuel system has been gone through
Each time it comes out of long term storage, if the old engine has been sitting for 5 plus weeks it takes a few hours of driving to free out. 1 to 2 hours on the road, it runs perfect and start first time every time. Same with the gearbox, lumpy changes for a few hours after storage but frees out once its driven regularly
Mad these old engines ha ha 😂
Great Video guys ... keep them coming
Thanks mate, will do!
Its getting there hopefully you figure out what it is, keep up the good work
Thanks Ronnie, well get there in the end 👍
Love the attention to detail you guys put into the car. Keep up the great work lads. 🎉
Thanks mate 👍 👌
Great video. Love watching these
Thanks mate, we appreciate that 👍
So frustrating for you guys I was willing it to run perfect! No doubt you’ll sort it though I’m keeping everything crossed it’s a simple cheap fix 🤞🤞
Yeah its getting that way! I was almost certain that that was going to fix it! We'll keep going at it tho
Can’t wait for the before and after photos of this car it’s looking amazing 😻
Thanks Trish, That transfomotion will be amazing! 😁
Another great watch keep it up lads
Thanks mate, we appreciate that 👍
Another great video update lads 😁 Almost upset there's no bazzin' though! 🤣🤣
Do you regret the rebuild yet? 🤣 Are we going to find out how much the rebuild costs in the end - to see if it's viable or not?
Looking forward to the next enthralling episode guys! Keep up the good work 🖖
Nice one mate ha ha there will definitely be more bazzing on the channel 🤣 I regretted it the day we picked it up ha ha im not sure, we'll see if matts wants that aired 😜🤣
Its come so fat, l to love a TVR notification & save it till l can watch in peace, like waking up at 6am & hit it.
Ha ha thank you mate! We love the fact people are waiting for our videos to come out, that means a lot! 👍
Matt!! Please go all in on this project!! I know it's costing a fortune! But it will be so much more better... Than just a half resto mate
I'm guessing Matt has "massively overspent" already!
Just needs a fresh set of plates
@@Lee.1985. ....and a £30 special valet where he doesn't look forward to picking up the and seeing the boss
They’ve not done a comprehensive restoration which keeps the car as original as possible, waste of time throwing a load of money at it. It will be a nice useable classic but never a perfectly restored classic. I own one of these, some of them a worth full resto budget, some just aren’t.
That sounds like trouble with the mass flow air sensor. Hope you can borrow a Lucas one to test out this theory.
So do I mate, but no one local has reached out yet, we might have to buy a second hand one
Shame about the rough running hopefully a Lucas maf may sort the issue,if not I’m sure you’ll sort it,great work with the front and underneath it looks great 👍
We'll find the problem eventually ha ha 😂 thanks mate we appreciate that 👍
@@TransformotionVR nice one 👍you deffo will
Another great video. Love the dodgy ramp trick to get under the rangie.
Thanks mate, it's not a bodge if it works ha ha 😉
Love the channel boys. And more uploads. Hope your both well. And the team 👍🏼👏
Amazing video again lads, first on my watch list of an evening 😊
Nice one Craig! That means a lot! 😁
If its an issue of the engine stumbling when cold, maybe try the coolant temperature sensor (not the sender for the gauge), or, failing that, maybe the fuel temperature sensor.
I think it does it constantly, it sounds like it's getting too much air to me
Nice job guys..keep em coming 👍🏻
Nice one mate, will do 😉
That Range Rover is going to give the most rewarding sense of accomplishment when its done given the head scratching moments it has presented so far.
Ha ha I know man! If we get there! 😉😁 I can't wait till the day it's done, sat there all shiney!
Cracking video lads
Nice one Mike! Your hoodie should be here this week, hopefully tomorrow!! Then you can pop down and pick up your new tool box 🧰
If I were working on this engine I'd be doing a smoke test on the inlet system to rule out 100% no unmetered air getting in, if the smoke test didn't show any leaks I'd be buying an external fuel pump and running it from a fuel can. This engine is a little before my time but principles should be the same, have you considered timing with a strobe light may just need the dizzy cap base advancing or retarding :)
They're good suggestions mate, we've tested for air leaks by spraying brake cleaner over the inlet and the revs didn't pick up once, but a smoke test would probably be more accurate. The fuel pump and sender unit are brand new and went into a clean plastic tank with new lines, filter and cleaned injectors. This is also before my time ha ha but we do need a test light and teaching how to use it ha ha 😂 we have turned the dizzy but it's still hesitant
Top work as normal, guys.
Is there a follow-up video on the white van conversion?
Cheers.
Nice one mate, unfortunately no, we did that job for someone we know who's doing a conversion for themselves. But you never know, we might do our own conversion in the future
Just tell Matt he’ll have to massively overspend. I’m sure he’ll understand 🤣
Ha ha hes used to it 🤣
If it’s not the MAF try changing the fuel pump and filter it seems to run fine on tick over but starve when demanding fuel
It's got a brand new pump and sender unit on, a new filter and injectors have been cleaned and tested
Great video as per usual lads. 👍
As someone that is not mechanically minded, I personally think that she sounds an awful lot better than she did at the start. It's just a shame that she's just that wee bit too old for your OBDEleven to diagnose the problem 🤔
Thanks mate, she definitely does sound better, but still not 100%, I cant wait till we get to the bottom of it 😀
Nice lads
Thanks man
Church House Classics. Is a youtuber. He works on Land Rover - Range Rover. Of the same vintage, as Matt's one. May even have a video in his library archive. He's not local to North West though.
That's the guy who I'm subscribed to that I couldn't remember his name ha ha 🤣 I think an email to him is much needed
Sometimes I wonder what happens inside Matt's head when he wants to save cars like this one. I think he needs a new hobby like a pony, a fish tank with exotic species or maybe diamond painting? 😂
Ha ha 😂 😂😂 itd probably be cheaper! Antique collecting would be a good one for him
good vid
Thanks mate 👍
Boom
Thanks for watching mate & for getting the first comment in 🏆 hope you are well and enjoyed todays video
@@TransformotionVR I always do keep them coming 👌👌
Will do man! How's the job treating you? Still on the turbines?
Love the channel, hope you get to the bottom of the Range Rover not running right. 🍀🍀🍀👍
Thanks mate that means a lot! Thanks for watching 👀
So have the lads finally admitted this is a restoration project and not the "recommission" they said? It's always *looked* like a full restoration to me, given the quality and depth of work they've gone into. It may not be a concourse job, but concourse cars are just Garage Queens, a restoration that makes an old car useable every day is a much better thing.
Ha ha well id still say its not a propper restoration as I don't want people who do that for a living to think that's what we think they do ha ha 😜 but it is slightly more than 'getting it back on the road'
Needs ignition timing set then would run fine.
We do need a timing light to check and put in the correct spot but I don't think it's that that's causing the hesitation on revving up
You're getting closer every time! Bang a new air freshener in. Sorted like a Manchester postman.
Ha ha 😂 thanks mate!! Sorteddd 🤙
You guys are great i can remember buying one of these from a scrapyard in South Yorkshire for 600 quid been stood for 9years i rebuilt it took me 13months i had it painted in Plymouth blue like yours looked amazing then sold it like a dick head 😊i really enjoyed rebuilding it like you guys great job
Thanks mate! How much did you end up spending on it? Was it the 3.9 petrol like matts one?
Great video lads nice to see Dave aswell was wondering if ya dad would be keen on helping
Nice one man! He's been down every day this week, im sure he's after a job ha ha 😂 we was trying to work out who you was.....do you work with him?
@@TransformotionVR it’s your little cousin Mike
Little?! ha ha 😂 🤣 that's mad, it's showing your user name now, it was a generic one before
I know changed it now been telling people about the channel on my route few people watching from all over Liverpool and Chester
Ha ha I know, some have commented! Saying they're all watching because of yountelling them, nice one mate! 👍
How does ot run with the MAF disconnected now all the other stuff is sorted?
I dont think we've tried it since fitting the new one
My Mint 1999 BMW E38 can do the same one fault leads to finding changing loads , when its good its realy good my baby Bently but when it breaks it drives me mad .
Yeah cars can be like that, they're a love hate kinda thing ha ha 😂
Would have been better using black wax oil
I dont like the stuff, I mean it works but it's horrible when you have to work on a car thats wax oiled
You Guys!! "You Raise Me Up".👆⬆️🆙🔝☝️
So you can stand on mountains? Ha ha thanks mate 😜
Throw a replacement engine in it. You might have better luck with that lads
I dont like the stuff it never goes off so youre constantly working on an oily car, the oil definitely helps tho
@@TransformotionVR why don't you put a p38 4.0 or 4.6 engine in? Will be a better block then that old 3.9i engine is it in them? I know they all have their little faults though but no better sound than a V8 👌
Sorry mate I must have replied to the wrong comment there ha ha 😂 I think matt would like to keep it as original as he can
Top work has to be air you proved it and it’s making a funny sucking noise
Thanks mate, it does sound like it's getting to much tbh
Reach out to tom lenthal ltd he does all of auto alexs tatt.
Might be worth a shout like, we got another youtuber than we can email too so it's another option, thanks 😊
Calling this a restoration is unfair to those cars which have been sympathetically restored. Covering it in Schultz and tarting it up is not a restoration.
We have said from the start of this build its not a restoration we are simply getting it back road worthy for matt to drive that's all matt wants he dosnt want to spend restoration money
@@TransformotionVR having the word restoration in the title is pretty misleading then 😂
Richard at churchhouseclassics if anyone can help it's him
That'd the guy i said I was subbed to but couldn't remember his name
