We need more of these examples of supportive, caring male friendships in the world.
+
Absolutely
Also women caring about men would be nice too.
Outside the US and Canada, males/guys/fellas DO in fact care for and support each other. I mean sometimes. If that comes natural. As in: If they're friends. It's not really rocket science American males. If you like another male and if you slowly start gaining the trust and/or appreciation of said male, you might be becoming what we in the entire rest of the world call being actual FRIENDS. I know, pretty shocking, right.
what
Those of us who have seen The Handmaiden knew EXACTLY what John meant when he was struggling to explain it. Great film. Wouldn't catch me dead watching it with a family member
I lold so hard when he said the name, 😅
Kim goeun!
yup saw it in a theatre at a film festival
the bells man
@@roonil3931 Kim Goeun was not in the Handmaiden. Maybe you're thinking of A Muse?
FantasticFest2016? With Director Park extolling the splendors of the Salt Lick?
Seeing John begin to unmask thanks to sobriety is really powerful. I wish the best for him.
Yes. I'm rooting for him to stay well. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
Did he ride his new girlfriend whilst still married?
@@robovac3557 YOU DON'T KNOW THESE PEOPLE
Awkward situations are the birthplace of comedy.
So sweet of Olivia's mom to try and break the tension.
I knew immediately the movie and the story was even better then I was expecting! Hilarious and so dear!
She seems like an absolute gem haha.
She broke the tension masterfully
The most amazing part is that she's an Asian grandma. I'm Asian so I can say/attest to that.
Oh, Olivia is the woman Mulaney cheated on his last wife with?
This was the first mulaney interview I've seen where he didn't seem like he was performing. He just seemed like he was being a person. Refreshing.
I think that maybe, for people who have had troubled relationships with their parents, Stephen Colbert is one of those people you would wish is your father. He is funny as hell, super crass when he feels like it, but so very sincere. I wonder if John Mulaney feels this way, receiving this gift.
What a great guy Stephen is.
meeeee lol. hes such a dad, its like so potent. i need this in my life
Don't tell Joker that
It’s really good to see how people have embraced John Mulaney and how open he’s been with his experiences, warms my heart
I haven't watched the video yet, does he talk about cheating on his wife?
Is this why Colbert and him get along so well?
Hormones, everyone’s got them, what do you think? This woman is the coolest grandma ever.
To have the authenticity of their relationship transpire in such a casual conversation… I teared up!
Shoutout to him for getting some free publicity for The Handmaiden! Insanely good film
Asome movie, right?
@@andresbarriga5305*awesome
stephen is so sweet. i can't believe i'm crying over a medal
#metoo
I’m not crying. You’re crying. So happy for John. So sweet of Stephen. Going to get a tissue.
That was really unexpected, especially after the story about Mrs Kim 😂
I got fuxking teary-eyed lol
Same
Always loved Stephen's comedic talents but what stands out even more is his heart. He's one of the good ones. Props to John for getting clean too. I hope all the good influences his life keep him on the straight and narrow.
Conan and Stephen are the good ones!
As soon as he mentioned “Korean period pieces” I started actually cackling. For some reason I cannot comprehend John Mulaney of all people loving Korean historical dramas as much as me😭😭😭 Like they don’t exist in the same universe in my head
he’s a strong, independent, asian woman
Just had the same reaction 😂
As soon as I heard him say it I couldn't imagine a world where John didn't watch Korean period pieces.
Hearing John Mulaney talk about The Handmaiden was all that was missing from my life
RIGHT
I love these two men. Their talent, their heart, their intelligence. It’s beautiful to see their deep friendship on display so genuinely.
Love John. His Baby J Netflix show was hilarious and sobering. So glad he got his life back.
I feel like I can imagine why Olivia and John are together after hearing how easily he connects with her mom. So sweet!
These are my favorite type of interviews, you both like each other, continue to be naturally funny without pushing anything and it feels authentic. John was very touched by the medal too, that was awesome
This was so beautiful to watch!
John, humble and funny as always, and Stephen thoughtful and kind!
Colbert loves guys who cheat on their wives.
The Handmaiden is freaking amazing. Park Chan-wook GOAT!!
The second he said The Handmaiden I FELT it ! watching that alone is too much at a point 🤣
right when he said "erotic korean film" i KNEW it was the handmaiden 😭 it's an incredible film, i highly recommend it! but yeah, it's best as a solo viewing experience 😅
Note to anyone reading this: do not watch The Handmaiden with your inlaws EVER.
Or like, with anyone you dont want to have an awkward moment with. That movie is gorgeous but explicit as hell XD
I started thinking "oh great movie" then the context dawned on. Good advice.
My husband and I watched it with my then 20 year old daughter. It’s a fabulous movie, but the three of us were pretty uncomfortable at times … Funny story, I went to see Inherent Vice (Paul Thomas Anderson directed) with my 80 year old mom. There were some very uncomfortable moments in that movie too.
This whole video was just unexpectedly sweet. ❤
I cant believe i live in a world where John has watched my favorite Park Chan Wook movie
The Handmaiden… I’m still mad that this IMMACULATELY shot queer Asian film got snubbed at the Oscars. Do yourself a favour and go watch the trailer… and then go into it blind. Asian lesbians. Crimes. Revenge. Tenderness. Gorgeous cinematography and editing. What more can I say to convince you
The definition of be gay do crime.
"It's about this 'book collector'" I mean that's one way of putting it, John! As soon as he said he's been watching K-content, I knew it was gonna be The Handmaiden. You can't even euphemize any of it for American TV!
So glad John had people who care about him so much. He's a lucky man and sober looks good for him.
I love love love this kid... I truly hope he is on his path... Stephen really cares for him, what a kind and deep gesture. John, I wish you all the best, you have so much potential, and might be the funniest comedian alive... Please take care of yourself young man :)
genuine question would you call a 41 year old woman a "kid"?
We need more of this on TV.
In just less than six minutes we get a whole lot of emotions...from the wickedly funny to the moving ending. A golden talkshow moment.
Congratulations John on all your recent positive achievements in your life. You exude happiness and look gorgeous! Love your cute mother-in-law stories!! I’ve watched your Baby J show several times already and love every minute!
The Handmaiden is an amazing movie! I can't believe he watched it with Ms. Kim lmao
Heck, my husband and I were watching a movie with my in-laws that ended up just "very steamy" and we were both awkward as heck being with them. I can't imagine being alone with my father-in-law, curled up under a blanket with him, and suddenly a hardcore scene starts to play. That really shows how comfortable they both are around one another.
before he even said it i knew he was gonna talk about the handmaiden LOOL
Super happy that John was able to turn his life around like this. Talk about landing on your feet. He went from heavy addiction and divorced in 2021 to watching Korean soft-core porn with Olivia Munn's mom.
this is not soft porn...is pure explicit erotica now, I get it ! Sweet to ringa- da And becoming legendary White Swan
Love John Mulaney and hope for his continued sobriety. And love Stephen more every time I see great interviews like this. What a good man he is (both are).
Their relationship honestly just makes me so happy every time
what a touching moment between these two gentlemen. Fills my heart
I CANNOT IMAGINE WATCHING THE HANDMAIDEN FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH MY PARTNER'S MOM.
The Handmaiden (2016, Park Chan-wook) is an awesome film.
What a great interview Stephen , we need more openness and kindness like that
I now NEED to know what sort of oral sex that Mulaney would describe as "off the charts" while doubling over laughing. This movie made an impact on this man.
I watched this movie by myself in a theatre and I blushed. I'd die if I had to watch it with anyone, even a partner.
Keeps it short and sweet with "Gettin your shit together"... Both of these men are great examples to live by, in different ways
Enter the new era of Mullet Mulaney. I welcome this new story arc.
To the haters, it's Dad-hair = don't care.
Never expected a Chan-wook Park film to get name-dropped on mainstream late night TV! Excellent film too!
Awww. Stephen always has the most thoughtful gifts for his guests.
Love these two daddies!💖💖
Sweet baby J x xo graduations for making it through the storm, and coming out better than ever before!
And congratulations on your littlest best friend ❤ beautiful interview!
Omg, I need to know what they were talking about at the break for Stephen to be basically yelling Shut up, with so much love.
ikr ? what the heck were they screaming at each other about ??
I just read the title of the video and knew John had an awkward night watching The Handmaiden😂
That movie is fantastic
real talk tho, The Handmaiden is an excellent erotic thriller and everyone should see it, preferably alone, with the door locked. It's by the guy who made the original Oldboy, so you know it's good.
Love the mutual affection and respect they have for each other, they seem to have so much in common!
I knew it was The Handmaiden as soon as he mentioned Korean film 😂
The whole interview was so sweet and interesting. I wish him the best
Can that medal be from all of us, thanking him for getting his stuff together? I don’t know how many bad days Baby J has made better through his comedy. Thanks dude.
this has to be one of the best interviews ever
The gasp I gosped at the handmaiden mention and John going “one of you knows this” and I know it was a fellow Sapphic in that audience
Aww, I legit cried. Love these guys both so much.
His mother-in-law sounds absolutely delightful 😊
I am shocked no one has seen the Handmaiden
The handmaiden is a good movie indeed
Stephen is the best! And so is John! Such a 🥹 moment. Always funny.
As a proud Asian woman, it's natural that John would want to watch Korean period pieces 😂
(If you know, you know 😉)
The Handmaiden is a great film.
Stephen is such a great dad.
Que momento fofo no final 💙💙
That is a serious bromance! Love it!! ❤
If any of you Americans see John anywhere near drugs... slap it right out of his hands. I love his comedy too much to lose him❤️
Hahaha, don't worry, we're all keeping tabs on him, he's a national treasure.
Aww you guys
What a supportive friend. Stephen must be a great dad.
The Handmaiden movie is crazy good. Incredibly good.
If you like the handmaiden, I highly recommend the novel it’s based on, fingersmith. It’s set in Victorian England rather than early 20th century Korea, but it’s really good!
The movie Handmaiden is extremely good in its own right but personally I love the British mini series Fingersmith. Absolutely insanely good acting.
That was so awesome 🥰👏👏
Well that gesture was painfully adorable
I screamed a bit when he said The Handmaiden. Good film, but very erotic, like he says.
Gotta love John, man.
I love Steve Colbert❤️❤️❤️
Yeah watching Handmaiden in the theater was...an experience.
I am grateful I live on this planet at the same time as Stephen Colbert and John Mulaney. (And you reading this. You're awesome too.)
The colour of the medal's lanyard goes well with the colour scheme of John's outfit, and serves very well in place of a tie!
My God, John, I'm whEEzing laughing..
We love john mulaney and stephen colbert
The Handmaiden is a freakin' crazy ass movie. I think I liked it. Might have to rewatch it someday. But when John said the name of the movie I literally went "oh no" out loud. Definitely a movie I never want to see in the vicinity of any family member.
I never realized Mulaney looked bad until I saw him looking so good. What a joy to see this wonderful artist so well.
I honestly think he looked much better before - he was always super well groomed and dressed, and now he has lost a lot of that. But that's just me.
@@MothGirl007 huh
My favourite part of being married was my in-laws, and all my exes are from different cultural backgrounds so i got bawdy Scottish/Irish songs, fabulous Chinese cooking skills, and Portuguese sing-alongs (and the Korean drama thing too, oddly) from my ex mothers-in-law, and it totally made mating with their children a much better long-term experience once the baby-making petered out. :) You're winning at life, Baby J!
Great to see John M. out and about and enjoying life.
The mom is hilarious
this whole interview with John Mulaney between he and Steve is truly heartwarming
i had the same experience happen with The Handmaiden. My roommates in college and I were all film people and we thought we were just gonna watch a historical movie. we were incorrect 🤣its a great movie though!
That is so so so so so so so so sweet.
03:23 - This moment... Bless whomever did the RUclips Closed Captioning... I am now picturing an "Oriole Sex Scene"... LMAO!
So good. Father son vibes.
This was hysterical!
I could not imagine watching that film with any member of my family, I found it awkward just watching it with a friend 😂
I can't believe that a 23 year old like me, falls in love with a 59 year old man, every single day. He's so kind and thoughtful and articulate and funny. If my man isn't like Stephen, then i don't want him.
Just has to be the star of his own late night show? I think you might be aiming a bit low.
You'll meet them, find them "awkward" and feel weird around them, realize they carry immense trauma (AKA for people lacking empathy, "baggage") that you decide is too much for you to deal with and then ghost them within two weeks. That is exactly who Stephen Colbert was at 23.
@@RustyAShackleford Stephen met Evie when he was 26. Not everyone would ghost that guy, apparently
I think we all we we had a Dad like Stephen
@@awaredeshmukh3202 OP is 23.
Stop it Stephen Colbert! ❤ 😭
Olivia's mom sounds so funny
1. This interview made my day.
2. That implies there could be a patron saint of shotguns...
😂 I saw the Korean version of "Dangerous Liaison" at an international film fest with my hanai uncle once and we've not been able to look each other in the eye since!
