I've ridden in a 2018 GT350, and I thought the power was just brutal, amazed at how quickly it revs up. I think the Dark Horse is another amazing car, however, it makes me sad to know the days of affordable performance is long gone.
Still waiting to see that mythical unicorn C8 Corvette for 60K, never actually seemed to happen. Maybe for a few, who turned around and flipped them for a 20K profit, shortly before Chevy raised the prices..
MSRP on a 2018 gt350 was $58k without adding an extras (with inflation thats $72k in 2023 money) The premium model dark horse is starting at $62k without adding anything. That means this car is $10,000 less then the gt350 was. That means you can buy a dark horse AND put a blower on it to make more HP as the GT500 does and still only have as much in it as someone who bought a gt350 back in 2018.
For what the car is.. this *IS* affordable. That's just inflation.. things aren't going to be as cheap as they were before.. You can think Brandon! At least the orange guy had everything in order..

I own a 2018 GT350R. I took the Ford Performance Racing class in 2019 when it was out in Tooele, Utah and had an absolute blast! The GT350 is a phenomenal car, that flat plane crank engine is an incredible, rev happy device. On the track I couldn't believe how well it stuck to corners. I'm curious to know how the Pirellis compare to the Michelin Sport Cups that were standard on the GT350R. If the Dark Horse is anything close to that, they have another solid winner on their hands.
I regrettably sold my 2016 gt350 to buy a boat. I fixed that mistake by getting a darkhorse the monday after nascar swept the championship weekend. No mark up and in stock. It was fate. The only difference i felt was the DH doesn't scrape my driveway like the gt350 did. While sad i don't have a truly unique motor like the gt350, the dh is a first year numbered chassis that anyone can buy. Common folk couldnt get the first year 2015 gt350. They are both beasts.
Fantastic review REVan with some outstanding driving included. i noticed how hooked the Dark Horse was handling curves. Flat, stable with amazing brakes and an nasty exhaust note. From your driving review. I was surprised how much you enjoyed the performance from the automatic. It's definitely not a slouch handling the road course. Thanks for an amazing ride along. From watching a couple other reviews. Your 130 mph was tops. I love the flat plane voodoo. One thing i noticed is how the power comes on differently compared to the Coyote and how much the Coyote loves boost. If you have the opportunity. Great video Evan. Takes me back to my Mach 1 Track Attack. Hammer down diving into the bank on turn 2 and rolling up to the wall on the back stretch. I only got to 118, my instructor got to 125 on the ride along. I wonder how the P Zero's compare to the Cup 2 for 4s? I have always like Pirelli's.
What’s your opinion on the base vs. the handling pack? I ordered a base Dark Horse. I’m not track oriented but might want to try it out. How would it be as a daily?
I own a 2020 GT350 and have seen some of the reviews for this newest of Mustangs. For the price, I would buy a used Gen2 GT350R for less or a GT350 Gen 2

Terrific video as usual Evan. How would you compare this new Dark Horse vs the Mach 1 you drove on track a few years ago? I own a Mach 1 and I feel like the Dark Horse is the replacement for the Mach 1 (coyote vs coyote) Tremec vs Tremec.
I think it's a better track car but as for the street, pretty equal. Personally, the new S650 hasn't grown on me yet. I love the technology and performance, but it's hard to beat the looks of the Mach 1.
@@revanevan Yeah I agree, the Mach 1 does look pretty badass that’s why I bought a 23 Mach 1. I wanted the last generation of the S550 since the new S650 just doesn’t do it for me just yet. I prefer the S550 interior as well as exterior. Thanks for the reply and answering my question 👍🏻
Is "Dark HOrse" just the name for all 2024 mustangs, or is "Dark Horse" specifically that track focused car(roll cage, no interior) we saw yesterday/day before on this channel?
Dark Horse is a step above the GT and is its own car. The car I did the video on before this is the Dark Horse R, which is a full race car, this is the street version with 500 horsepower, different body than a GT or EcoBoost, improved suspension, brakes and tires and a better manual transmission.
Good luck with trying to get this car at MSRP !😮 With that dark horse emblem the dealers will mark it up to steal your hard earned money!😮 Great review, love your channel 😊
LOVE the hardware this includes, but really not a fan of the Dark Horse aesthetic choices. Aero parts aside, I'd try to build one to look more like a standard GT.
Missing a huge piece. GT350 especially is a huge upgrade for any resale value. 2018 GT is going for more than list original price. 2019 forget it! That might not be important to some, but the car is much more special from a collectors standpoint. Dark horse is just another mustang. Same coyote engine with some upgraded parts.

First thing anybody needs to do is, get a lap time comparisons with the Mach 1 vs dark horse. My point is I bet they run the same lap time and Ford will sell you a gimmicks. And what is the point of making to track cars. Could have literally made the Mach 1 a gt4
Regarding the IMSA GT3 and GT4 Mustangs. Ford built S550 GT350R-C race cars. If you've attended IMSA GT series racing. There are no Mach 1 GT4 race cars. The Mach 1 is a strong track car but the Dark Horse has better aero to go along with an improved chassis and the new Gen 4 Coyote. Like any track car. They need to evolve and the Dark Horse makes a better GT3 and GT4 Mustang track car. There were fewer teams using the Older GT4 Mustang. That will change in the 2024 season.
@@DWH300 I think you're not getting it, my whole point is the dark horse would never been invented and the Mach One would have been the dark horse. It's just a name you can label it however you want.
The mistake is copying other manus with the tablet dash that looks 100% pulled from other cars and using a fully loaded over weight platform for Dark Horse whstcis supposed to be a perfotmance model which needs to be light, no rear seats smaller 18" lighter wheels, and better aero not worse. Total fail.
Your Dark Horse performance times don't match a 500 horsepower Mustang. Ford hasn't tested this car on a dragstrip, but Motor Trend tested the 500 horsepower Dark Horse running a 3.8 seconds 0-60 time. I'm guessing the quarter mile times will be in the upper 11s depending on the transmission and the driver. The Dark Horse Is built as a track car but currently. No quarter mile numbers have been posted.
@@DWH300 I agree, let's see a DH with the auto 10speed make that 3.7/3.8 sec 0-60 time and then we're talking about a "winner." So far, as far as speed, you can get a GT with a performance pack and pretty much stay with it. Can't believe Ford couldn't squeeze another 30 or HP out of the 5.0L and upped that all important torque.
I've worked on Ferraris, what would an "off-brand" Ferrari be? And BTW I am no Ferrari fan, I appreciate them for what they, like any other piece of mechanical curiosity.
This car is a joke for what your are paying.....500hp? 😂 I think not, people will be real disappointed when they get it and realize how heavy and slow it is compared to previous generations. The worst part is all the gimmicky "tech" and the PITA untunable those dual throttle bodies will be. I sense a lot of buyers remorse coming. Easy to promote something you're paid to.
Good to see Ford is making cars for the couple dozen road racers, and still ignoring the 1000s and 1000s of drag racers that dominate the market. And don't give me the Cobra Jet nonsense. As much as i dislike Dodge, as least they gave their customers what they wanted. Street legal drag packs from the factory.. Ford you get corner carvers with push button revs
Way more "road racers" out there than drag strip racers by 10 to 1. Don't know where you get your numbers from! Most buyers are going to open it upon on an open highway or lone road than take it to the drag strip or take it to a road course racetrack where these are meant to shine & yet still go on a drag strip & do high 3 secs 0-60 which is fast for a small V8!
Just my opinion but these people at Ford need to make the manual transmission in GT more durable more so than worrying about how good the automatic transmission works on the track. And start making affordable fun car’s again because it seems the past 20 years Ford has been chasing fads in all the wrong directions and charging a premium for it. If a company makes a quality product at a affordable price then that company will never have to worry about sales
We all wish new cars were cheaper, according to Edmunds, the average price of a new car in the US is $47,713, which blows me away. A Mustang GT still comes in under the average. Unfortunately, salaries have not kept up with this increase, and that prices many people out. The Mustang GT used to be an everyman's car, but I don't think it's the case anymore unless you want a 7-10 year loan. I feel your pain and I'll be keeping my paid-for GT350.
@@AB-coyote for the price they charge it should be bulletproof. Hell Ford should bring back the toploader with a extra gear or two and never have to worry about that issue again
@@travislostaglia8861 the price they charge? The price is fair for what you get. My MT82 has been holding boosted power for the last 21,000 miles. 36,000 total miles on car. The car gets BEAT. I bang gears at 7700 rpm and it never complains. At this point the car and trans owe me nothing
@@AB-coyote in 1969 the most powerful mustang you could buy the boss 429 would be under 40 grand in today’s money. Can you even get a new base v8 mustang for that?
The steering is light I've been heating this a lot. Kind of a deterrent. Take the electronic steering and cram it. Ford is making the experience more dangerous in my opinion.
@revanevan less feedback in the steering could be the difference of knowing your going to lose control or not. I want this car bad but I hope the steering isn't too numb. I've heard the gt is very numb.
@@BigInjun05 You would only lose control if you are doing something that's beyond the limit of the car while racing, on road driving and normal cruising won't ever have that effect. It also seems like many people haven't even touched the limit of the car. I see you haven't had hands on experience with it, but others have and you heard them say it's numb, may I ask who said the DH is numb to drive ?
Goodness, if we are going to compare the gt350 to the dark horse, the dark horse has more usable horse power down low where you need it for every day driving instead of up high in the gt350 where it boggs down cruising around town
❤😂😢😮😅😊😊😊 dark horse is a good damn Mustang but we have to find some damn good drivers to kick ass in the NASCAR race I’m tired of Chevy winning and Ford coming in second or third. We got a put our foot down and start kicking ass and start finding drivers to kick Chevys, ass and Toyota’s ass let’s find some good drivers for foreign mustang dark horse
only two things im not thrilled about the car. its camaro'esq styling that been foolishly added. (like wtf are the designers thinking!!!, please fire the guy!!) and the exhaust note. Look After the Shelby's ya gota know!!!. those were arguably the best looking and best factory performance mustangs ever!!!, along with the best exhaust notes. I cant stand this muffled up compressed note. sound like somethings been shoved in the tailpipe.
The Mustang has never been discontinued. The same can't be said about the Camaro that was discontinued in 2002. Chevy decided to give the Camaro another try using some Mustang styling cues but from it's terrible sells. Chevy failed. Now the Camaro is being discontinued again likely returning as a Mach E competitor. Maybe this time they'll fix the blind spots.

They to let me drive that Dark Horse
I like the car just not all the paint accents.
Cool Mustang. Too bad Ford does not offer a delete option for that gigantic deck spoiler. Other than that, the car checks all the boxes for me
You can roll on the power earlier because it is heavy and is lacking power.
Total fail.
That car does 0-60 in the high 4 second range and covers the quarter mile in 12.7 that's incredibly slow for a 500 HP 2024 Mustang Gt.
Ford please continue to hide track laptimes for your track cars
No way the dark horse is better than gt350..imo it's not even close
good for 190 MPH on the factory tune! this car is going to hurt a lot of vette/off brand Ferrari boi feelings.
I love the Big Three and I’m a Ford Fanatic, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves bud. This isn’t competing with Corvette.
And how will their feelings be hurt?
I've worked on Ferraris, what would an "off-brand" Ferrari be? And BTW I am no Ferrari fan, I appreciate them for what they, like any other piece of mechanical curiosity.
"they are"
Look up the top speed of a base C8. I don't think so???
I've been begging Ford for a 1320 killer for years.
Still hate the unenspired dash. Will keep me from buying one. 😢
Almost 4000 lbs that car needs more rubber to dance for sure
The MT82 isn’t nearly as bad as the internet makes it out to be.
How is it more dangerous?
@revanevan less feedback in the steering could be the difference of knowing your going to lose control or not. I want this car bad but I hope the steering isn't too numb. I've heard the gt is very numb.
@@BigInjun05gotta remember these are still preproduction...that might be something that gets tweeked.
@@raionshishi8290 check out throttle house's take on it.
all this computerized performance stuff just blows my mind!!
Looks like a Camaro???
That's original.
Not sure about the Emo Goth Girl eyeliner. Or the wannabe Mercedes interior...
But a V8 with a manual still offered in 2023? It's all good!
Goodness, if we are going to compare the gt350 to the dark horse, the dark horse has more usable horse power down low where you need it for every day driving instead of up high in the gt350 where it boggs down cruising around town
Wow! Ford paid for all of this?
Is it me or does the interior look old as hell
❤😂😢😮😅😊😊😊 dark horse is a good damn Mustang but we have to find some damn good drivers to kick ass in the NASCAR race I’m tired of Chevy winning and Ford coming in second or third. We got a put our foot down and start kicking ass and start finding drivers to kick Chevys, ass and Toyota’s ass let’s find some good drivers for foreign mustang dark horse
Zero steering feedback ...
10R80 overall, can’t go wrong.
Audio needs work, really annoying.
I wouldn't get one simply for the Pirelli. Yuck.
only two things im not thrilled about the car. its camaro'esq styling that been foolishly added.
The audio capture wasn't fantastic, I'm working on that. Actual exhaust note was really good.
Maybe this time they'll fix the blind spots.
let me guess..........the best mustang ever........
