    I don't understand the hate this coaster gets from some of the coaster community. I first rode this back in 2011 and it helped me overcome my fear of big coasters. I rode this 7 times in a row that morning and after that became addicted to coasters. I visited the park again in 2019 and after having ridden more coasters, I was expecting to like Apollos less but it remained my favorite coaster and I got 7 more rides on it that day. Back row on this coaster is just amazing to me and floater being my favorite sensation, makes Apollos my favorite coaster. I've ridden Goliath at Over Georgia and that is in my top 5 and Mako will be later this year. B&M hypers are just fantastic in my opinion!

    A solid, smooth, fun ride. I like the drop, camelbacks, terrain and definitely the helix where I did grey out a little bit. To me this is a coaster to start of with a youngster. Also to mention this a 22 year old rollercoaster and still packs a fun experience. I can see years later a landmark with American Coaster Enthusiasts Organization for this coaster just like The Loch ness monster coater. After all this is the first prototype hyper of B&M. Everything advances from a prototype, look at today's line-ups.

  • @zacg_
    @zacg_ 3 года назад +3

    I LOVE this coaster! I'm genuinely baffled that so many enthusiasts see this as a weak B&M hypercoaster. It's smooth and has great airtime. The setting is simply the best for any B&M hypercoaster and it's much less formulaic than other B&M hypercoaster in North America. I rank it just behind Mako and Diamondback in that group. It's just one more reason why BGW is one of the best parks on earth.

    • @CanobieCoaster

      If floater airtime isn't your thing, I can understand why Apollo may not be liked by some. But I love it.

    • @zacg_
      @zacg_ 3 года назад +2

      @@CanobieCoaster I get that. But what I don't understand is why so many enthusiasts rank this low among B&M hypercoasters. They're almost all focused on floater airtime and only a few have a speed hill. If someone isn't a fan of floater airtime then I can understand them not being impressed by B&M hypercoasters in general but I don't understand why someone would say this is one of the weakest of that model.

    • @CanobieCoaster

    Yeah, Apollo's is a very good ride. Honestly, some minor nitpicks based on personal experience:
    1: I was getting a tiny amount of vision-greying on that turn-around in the back, so it has some positives
    2: It has a small rattle on that turn-around but nothing bad.
    3: That last drop from the back honestly felt like strong floa-jector to me. Like stronger than any of Mako's hills.
    I did ride it on the tail end of the 2018 heat wave it should be noted, and most of my rides were in the evening while the sun was setting.

    It's currently my favorite ride at the park. It had a slight rattle for me, but even a B&M-rattle-wimp like me had no problem with it. I was very pleased with this after riding the rattle machine, Diamondback, the previous week. Apollo is in the middle of the pack for me, behind Nitro (which rode amazing on my visit), Candymonium, and Mako. Apollos night ride was excellent, and it was possibly my mom's overall favorite coaster before I got her on Steel Vengeance, Maverick, and Valravn.

    • @zacg_
      @zacg_ 3 года назад

      Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Lightning Rod isn't a hypercoaster because it's lowest point isn't 200 feet below its peak. My understanding was that while the lift hill and hillside itself put the top of the coaster over 200 feet above the ground level, the coaster is built entirely above the ground level and the coaster isn't itself over 200 feet tall. Let me know if I misunderstood.

    • @zacg_

      I think Apollo's Chariot has the best setting for a B&M hypercoaster but Magnum XL-200 has the best view from its lift hill of almost any coaster on earth.

    The amount of vertical feet lost during every dip of the coaster including the drop is a very interesting stat I've considered but never mentioned. For me: Diamondback has lots of verticality for its 5282' of track of nine drops; the 1st six each being over 100'.

I heard the drop with the pre drop on Apollo's Chariot is not as good but the rest of the ride maybe besides the drop of the mid course looks better than RB. I have ridden Apollo Chariot, Nitro, Goliath at SFOG, and Raging Bull , and if i can remember, this is the weaker one of them all. I think one of the reasons why is it's just 170 ' tall with a 210 ' drop. It seems like it doesn't feels like you are dropping into a 40' ravine. At least in my opinion. And the layout with that huge turn around is way too much of a curve without feeling anything. At least Goliath at SFOG has a good positive fun downward helix. And the hills on the way back after the turnaround curve are smaller to me, besides the last hill. The length is not as long either. They should have added another 600' of more airtime hills with bigger drops since its on a hilly land. Im sure the trains would have made it back to the station. Just my thoughts about the coaster. But still a fun ride.
