I can't get over how amazing Charlotte and Mat sound harmonizing together in the beginning. I want MORE. I would listen to entire albums of just them, they sound THAT good.
Same! It's a comedy but sometimes there are some meaningful heartfelt scenes that I think get all of us in the feels! 💔😭🎄 That's what makes this series so amazing
I think it’s because it’s about people who lost their lives and never had a chance to make up for the mistakes they made or heal the pain they suffered. It’s funny and yet underneath it all it’s about what it is to be human and love and lose.
I love this part so so much because not only is it beautiful but also because Allison wanted to sing a carol with her family and technically, the ghosts are her family It’s just a really sweet gesture
What I find particularly touching in this scene in the show (well, apart from everything else about it) is Fanny's smile as she looks at the Christmas tree 🥺❤
Thanks for this observation - I think this was really beautiful and that Martha Howe - Douglas’ performance in this scene was understated but very moving. I could feel Fanny’s joy and relief.
Tbh Larry's such an underrated singer! Like Charlotte and mat both have albums out, everyone knows (or at least should know) that Jim has a fantastic voice, but I think Larry is even slightly better than Ben, who is also good tbh...
@@torymonarchist Mat did an album Toys with his band Special Benny in 2010, & a solo EP So It Goes as "Dog Ears" in 2011. I spose you've heard the songs tho, cos they're on yt. Dunno about Charlotte tho, all I know is her band is All Angels.
He looks even better now, ages like a fine wine lol. Definitely got an attractive 'silver fox'/ George Clooney (except a decade younger) vibe haha. Especially as seen in the 'Ask the Ghosts' pandemic Zoom chats.
I had never heard this song before watching this episode of Ghosts but this has been my favorite scene of the entire series so far. Harmonies are done nicely and how they come in with just Thomas and then the rest of them joining in is so nice to hear.
This is lovely, I love this scene in the series. When Alison (Charlotte ) Sat down to play I felt sad for her. .. then...wow that beautiful harmony from Thomas ( lovely Mat). That set me off and then they all joined in and Robin(Larry) howled....perfection. Guys you are the best team on TV please do more things together.
This isn't a song I've ever heard in America and it instantly became my favorite Christmas song. This was such a lovely scene. Can't WAIT for season 4!!
I watched the episode again today, it's so sweet. And then I came hear to hear their version of this song. I also love the plague victims singing a line down in the basement.
I keep coming back to this. The cast are all fantastic but Ralegh Long deserves credit too! This is genuinely my favourite version of this carol. It's so hauntingly beautiful...
"What can I give him? Poor as I am If I were a shepherd I would give a lamb If I were a wise man I would do my part But what I can I give him Give him my heart" 👆I see what the writers did there..and it reflects so beautifully on the living and the dead people sincerely if awkwardly showing how much they care about each other.🥺
Not only is the song lovely and sung so beautifully, it has managed to drive out a song that I hate and had constantly in my head for months… I could never tire of this. It made me sad that Mike’s family didn’t appreciate the sheer beauty of it.
@@alasdairduncan3 Yes… My Mom used to play the piano and try and get us to sing carols but we made excuses… What I wouldn’t have given to hear her sing, now.
Well they could only hear Alison, to be fair. (Not that she didn't sound beautiful all by herself but it's the harmony with Thomas that really gets me) Is it wrong to ship two characters when one's been dead 200 years and the other's married?! 💔
I have just watched the final season of Ghosts and I am just so glad it has come back. Still such loveable characters and heartfelt moments. But this, wow... this episode in the Christmas episode when Alison started playing and singing this and she could obviously hear all the ghosts joining her aswell and it was just so beautiful. I am not going to lie, I was very teary. Beautiful harmonising. ❤
I absolutely loved this scene and it makes me cry but mat looks like a kid at a Christmas Carol concert or a school play at certain points in this video
That was lovely. The episode had me sobbing through a hankie, and I'd never heard the song before. Now I'm determined to learn it so I can make other people sob.
The main 6 actually quite 'old'. Not old but not particularly young either; they've just aged well. This is from the 2020 Xmas special so c. 2 years ago (2 and a bit). So here, the 6 idiots (Martha, Ben, Jim, Matt, Simon and Larry) would be 40, 48, 41, 40, 47 and 45. Katy was 41 and Lolly and Charlotte 30 and 31.
Just watched this episode and cried at this song that I never heard before in my life! So excited to know they actually sang it themselves!! WOW! Makes it even more special.
I didn't notice that Robin and Mary are signing particularly in character in the episode itself. This behind the scenes makes that clear. EDIT: Returning to this I realize most of them rehearse more in character than they are in the final cut. Robin howls and Mary's accent is thicker, but also the Captain rocks on his toes and needlessly conducts the group, and Kitty sways and looks around like she's in a daze. Perhaps they decided to subdue the performances once they got to filming and the upstairs ghosts are only in brief shots.
To hear a full version you could check out The Crown - it’s sang by visiting carol singers to George VI. Poignant scene as he was very ill at the time . The words to the other verses are very moving.
Does anyone have any idea where I can watch the specials in Spanish or subtitled!!!!!???? Alguien tiene idea de dónde puedo ver los especiales al español o subtitulados!!!!!????
Came to the UK version after watching the US version, the Pete episode was good in the uS version, but I hope they tone down the comedy a little more and give us more episodes like S2 EP 7. I am watching this episode for the 3rd time. My favorite between both shows.
The bearded man in the middle is Mat who plays Thomas. He shaves when they are filming, but tends to keep a beard when they aren't. The guy who did the howling is Larry, the one who plays Robin and Sir Humphrey's head. He just doesn't have a beard here. Both are extremely talented!
I can't get over how amazing Charlotte and Mat sound harmonizing together in the beginning. I want MORE. I would listen to entire albums of just them, they sound THAT good.
This part of the episode had me sobbing. Thomas joining Alison was so simple and pure and then everyone joined in and I LOST IT
I've watched the Christmas special 3 times and cried every time.

katy managing to keep up mary's strong accent.. so good
I know! Katy is amazing!
Imagine having to sing in Robins voice 💀 Larry is more talented then I could ever be
I don't know how Larry manages to talk like that without damaging his vocals
@@princessmoonwalkerpractice… but singing in it, that would definitely hurt if it goes wrong.

the voice of alison so beautiful!
I know I can't wait to buy the albums by All Angels.
Katy singing in Mary’s accent is giving me feelings🥲

when mat and chrlotte sing together is my favourite thing its so pure, also seeing ben with his capstache in jeans and a shirt confused my brain

This scene always makes me cry, especially how thomas just joins allison first and the others come in after, the vocal layering is so pretty 🥺
This is beautiful but the way Larry howls so casually has never dying
Did they not add that into the final cut? Pretty sure it's not in the actual episode, unless I missed something major 😄
