  • At number 6 in my top 37 of Eurovision 2024's contest entries is United Kingdom, represented by Olly Alexander with "Dizzy".
It's our last big 5 country, my home country, and of course, last year's hosts - Eurovision returned to the UK in 2023 in Liverpool, hosting on behalf of Ukraine. Now I may be a little biased, but I think the BBC, the city, everyone involved did an amazing job, and it really felt like a 10 day festival with huge attendance of all types of events. We got the right to host because Sam Ryder had come second, the UK's best result since we last hosted, and Mae Muller's song "I Wrote a Song" was proving popular with fans, but didn't come together on the night and we got a typical UK result. The BBC are not intending on slipping back to bad old ways though, and have gone bold with selecting the internationally-known artist, Olly Alexander, formerly of Years and Years.

Catherine princess of Wales playing Stefania on the piano absolutely blew me away, it was a lovely gesture. Until this video of yours I never realized I already knew dizzy. Very educational, thank you!

Ooh I was wondering when Dizzy was coming.
I was a little unwhelemed by the song so I am hoping that the staging is up to scratch.
The UK clearly wants a good result but not too good. I hope for a top ten result but I think it's a Jury song rather than a televote song.

I do think we've not seen the Eurovision potential yet - deliberately so. I also think it's no bad idea for the Big 5 to skew more towards juries (France and Germany have gone this way) given how many big televote songs there will be in the final!
