Quick math correction. 14X50=700. I forgot to divide by 60 to convert it to minutes. The correct number should be 11 min. If that doesn't make sense watch the whole video to find out. Buy Stuff - www.thebicyclestation.com/
Thanks for taking the time to make this. Thoes results are not surprising as I was expecting the MOG to win out in most instances until the road starts to get too rocky and flipps the preference. In all fairness to MTB'rs, it would have been a more fair comparison to compare a hardtail to the MOG.
This would be a good test to do loops with these TBs vs a "normal" 38-42mm gravel tire. I want someone to corroborate 2.1 TBs or 2.2 Race Kings are as fast as a 40mm gravel tire on all but the most perfect gravel/road while being way more capable.
Great MOG vids guys! I would love a followup vid w the MOG fitted with a set of road wheels and tires (same cassette as the gravel setup so there is zero adjustment when making the swap) and do a 75-100 k Saturday Group Ride. How hard is it to stay on pace and on line with road riders that have 2x drivetrains. Thx for the cool content!!! Big shoutout from Mammoth Lakes, CA (Eastern Sierra).
the question is did you have a higher heartrate on the no suspension bike even though the power was the same? (more strainious on the body - therefore slower in a real race? should do a 50k test with power and heartrate data)
That MOG looks amazing, especially in the blue! How would I make the WC faster? Race Kings or Aspen ST and a little more air, then maybe lockout the shock. Could shed some more weight through some Berd wheels.
Mog or frat for a do it all bike for road and gravel? In Utah so gravel can be pretty harsh where the mog would be great but how would the mog do with 35mm road tires?
Now to tweak the WC to make it just as fast as the MOG, and revolutionize the gravel scene......only negative for consumers (like me) would be shock service requirements, rigid is so easy.
Nice video...a little more detail on tire size and tire pressures would have been nice. That plays a huge role in this as well. That MOG is just so good looking.
There you go! Gravel bike won 😅 You should include in the list, the Specialized Diverge? I think that bendy seatpost, future shock or STR version is all you need.
Why didn’t you just turn around after the climb and rip back down the hill? Measure both up and down on both. It would eliminate the conjecture. Put a Redshift stem on the Mog and it will rip downhill 😀
So the first time downhill that was my plan. But then you know the fancy house with the s bend. You hit that and then I didn’t know what power to do to keep it fair. It was attempted hahaha
Since you mentioned the Aspero and I checked out your website and see that you sell them, I was wondering what the largest tire combo on the previous generation Aspero you’ve possibly seen? (45 front/42 rear?).
We’ve actually only just started selling cervelo like 6 months ago and I honestly don’t have much experience with the old Aspero. I just fit 47s in the new on though
Cool video, thanks. I'm in the market for a gravel bike and considering the MOG. I have a request for your consideration. It might sound like criticism, but it's not. It's just something I wish I could find on the internet. There are many RUclipsrs making watt comparison videos with bikes, wheels, skinsuits, etc. But no one is doing them all that well. Everyone I've seen is more focused on getting content out there asap than they are getting quality data. Getting good data would be more time-consuming, but it's still easy. We just need a RUclips channel to do repeated tests over the course of several days and then average the test results. Just doing them one time and trying to make a conclusion isn't that helpful. There are too many variables to have any confidence in the results. I bring this up because I think there's a market for a higher benchmark in these types of tests, and perhaps this is the channel that will focus more on quality than fast-producing content and trying to draw conclusions based on insufficient data. Thanks for reading, and keep up the good work!
Logistically is not really possible to invest that much time into it. When you multiply Trey and Is hourly rate over the course of a whole week on one video that’s got an income of like 30$ it’s just not worth our time. We gotta balance the time investment with the quality of the video. I think that’s clear in our video. We aren’t taking it too seriously and still had some fun insights. I agree with you though it would be really cool. I just know there’s no money to be made in that and it would really have to be a passion project. We at the end of the day have to pay our staff.
@@bicyclestation Well said, and I agree. It’ll take someone with more vision and creativity to do something better. It’s too bad that there’s such little incentive to do things better, rather than just copy what everyone else is doing.
If someone paid us to do it it would be possible. And if the channel was bigger and we were getting paid off the videos better it’s in the cards. But we’re still new at RUclips. Hopefully we can get there in the future
I wonder if you guys could try like throwing a lauf fork on the Mog and seeing if just a little bit of suspension but not a full on mtb frame would change things.
We have a surprise in store that along the lines of what you’re thinking. My experience with the lauf fork was super mixed. It really messes with the bikes steering. Might try a Rudy fork tho
Mog wins always. If the mtb setup was faster even over 200 miles, then I’d think pros would be using the setup for Unbound. Maybe midpackers like me will use front suspension just so I’m more comfortable but don’t think it’s faster (yet). Possibly setups like cane creek invert are getting closer

11:40 is a lot as long as you can take getting battered up 😛
I just want to say that I appreciate all of the ADHD focus cuts in these videos (like the one to the yellow jacket.)
Drop bar Epic WC has my heart too

Both Bikes are great!!
That mogs fire dude
Jesse's beard is really coming into it's own. The mog bartape is absolutely wild, but the drop bar WC is dope.
Good vibes all around.

You read our minds. This will be the same course we use for all gravel related testing going forward
Nice! Great to see that trucks still give you plenty of room! Used to ride gnaw bone in late 90s

Those 7 min. can be gained in the more agressive single tracks... seems to be a great setup
Really like your videos keep going !
is the beard aero?
That MOG looks amazing, especially in the blue! How would I make the WC faster? Race Kings or Aspen ST and a little more air, then maybe lockout the shock. Could shed some more weight through some Berd wheels.
which cranks are on both bikes? the mog has some logos but not enough to make a good guess, and i like the this vs that shootouts!
Same crank. XXSL 168q 170
Tons more coming!
Would love to see a comparison on the downhill!
Mog or frat for a do it all bike for road and gravel? In Utah so gravel can be pretty harsh where the mog would be great but how would the mog do with 35mm road tires?
Great vid thanks. What handlebars are you using on both bars? Thanks
Zipp xplr on the World Cup
Enve AR 1 piece bar stem on the Mog
@@bicyclestation legend, thank you!
Nice video❤..No toe overlap with 2.1 tires on the mog?
Both amazing bikes. Mog is a great all around bike, World cup a bit better on the trail. If you can afford it, great thing to have both 🙂
How would the MOG do on the road w/ 32mm tires? I have a Caledonia 5 now but want this w/ two sets of wheels: 32mm tires and 50mm. Great videos!!
I’d check the bb heights out. The mog honestly looks a little off with 40s. I think it would be slightly strange and really low to the ground
Can you do timed tests on trail D northbound?
Which would you ride in a long race such as Unbound?
did you find that you had to size down on the epic frame to get the dropbar geo you wanted?
No. But I always ride a smaller mtb then the size chart says to begin with
Now to tweak the WC to make it just as fast as the MOG, and revolutionize the gravel scene......only negative for consumers (like me) would be shock service requirements, rigid is so easy.
Gravel bike is faster. But suspension is more comfortable, which is probably faster in a long event (different amount for different people)
Nice video...a little more detail on tire size and tire pressures would have been nice. That plays a huge role in this as well. That MOG is just so good looking.
Mog has 2.1 WC has 2.35
Both were at 19/20 psi
@@bicyclestation Wow that is some low pressure. Thanks.
Mtb tire kinda demand it. You’ve got the volume might as well use it
There you go! Gravel bike won 😅

wouldnt skinnier tires make it faster than being a few lbs lighter?
why you don't try wc vs diverge str
We were planning on it. The str is really interesting. I guarantee it would lose to the Mog in this test though.

Was it a hard tail or full suspension?
Full sus

Or a Redshift stem 👀
I’ve gone down this path with the diverge. It doesn’t make the bike any faster. Just effects how comfortable it is
I ride smooth gravel roads like this on my steel road bike and 28 mm tires...
Me to! One time I road my sl8 up this road. So cool!
lol awesome

Add some weight to the gravel bike to match the Wolrd Cup and try again 😶🌫
