I luv my Aspero! I have had the Gen1 Aspero and now the Gen2. Like you mentioned "Its is one of the best bikes I ridden." I Ditto on that. I was coming off a Factor LS, which is a super cool rig too, Buuuttt the Aspero! Killer review and BTW we love racing the Dust Bowl. Yawl should swing down our way some time for some rocks riding. We are just south of you guys.
I’m also interested, though for this comparison test they wanted to use the same tires. For this video the Fray would’ve been more similar to compare, but I would be interested to see how a frame designed for wider tires compares to a frame designed for narrower tires.
Interesting. I have owned and raced both the 1st gen Stigmata' and Aspero 5 bikes. My experience was that the Aspero is darn fast but very scetch on any loose gravel decents or sand. tried numerous tires of all sizes and pressures. IMO the Stigmata was one of the fastest and most stable riding bikes I have been on. I did ride the 56cm Aspero and a 58cm Stigmata so the compare is a bit off. geometry may have been a bit of the difference I was feeling. I sold the Stigmata to get the Aspero 5 for the fully internal look and i since sold the Aspero to get the Checkmate in hopes of having a more stable and fast feeling bike vs the twitchy unstable feeling I was getting from the Aspero. I have yet to ride my Checkmate frameset till it get's fully built but thank you for a great video. It has always been interesting to me how so many factors can lead to how one describes ride and feel.I subscribed.
I see you’re running the mtb transmission crankset on the Aspero. Did you follow the standard setup instructions with the cog key and chain length Sram recommends? Just wondering about this setup vs a road wide crankset w a 47.5mm chainline.
I appreciate this review! Definitely helps file down my choices for picking a new gravel bike next year. I would love your advice or opinion on how the new Giant revolt stacks up against the aspero. I know two local shops one is a cervelo carrier and the other is giant. Let me know what you guys think. Great video!
Thanks for this comparison. It would be interesting if you might consider really testing what tires can fit in these bikes. At SBT GRVL, Trek DRFTLSS riders were running a 50 mm rear, and a 2.1 up front in their Checkmates, so for at least dry conditions, bigger tires will work (albeit with less clearance). On many bikes one can run a little bit bigger than official spec. It would be nice if this was checked in your reviews.
@@bicyclestation I am almost certain Russell Finsterwald had a 50 in the rear... I think a Terra Hardpack. In any case, it would be nice if you guys could check the fit in your reviews, as it is hard for us customers to be sure what the real world fit situation is. We have a trek store here, maybe I'll take a wheel down there with a 50 on it...

Thanks for all the great videos you produce. Always very interesting. I know you already had a Checkpoint slr. Can you give us your impressions between your old bike and the Checkmate? I have the Slr currently which I love and I wonder if the new Checkmate is worth it for a possible change ? I ride the checkpoint slr with 2 sets of carbon wheels (road and gravel) Thank you very much
Great comparison. How does the Checkmate compare (geo-wise) to Checkpoint? You were riding 56. Theoretically it's the new "M/L". But without offset in the new CM and different cockpit, did you notice any change of how the bike rides?
new to your channel, great videos. noticed the aero crank on the Aspero. any specific modifications needed to swap out the cranks. I currently have the SRAM force 1X. I assume it's a sram crank ?
Is the 10/52 12 gears set up better then the new xplr 10-46 with 13? I am deciding between the 2 set ups for my gravel bike. Use it in gravel races on east coast with lots of climbing (Mountaineer, Hibernator, Michaux grvl some examples) and on daily training mainly ride road with some gravel and single track. Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
but also at higher speeds the treks areoness will get even more and will win by a bigger margin, at 15 mph aero doesn't mean much but at 25 or 30 its WAY more
Jesse - have you tried the canyon grail ? any thoughts compared to an original aspero? I was so so set on a grail CFR with xplr 13 speed but im rethinking
Seems like small tires clearance on that one. But I’m not really the right person to ask about canyons. Looking at the geometry really quickly the size medium is stack is taller than the checkmates. I don’t think I’d be able to fit it comfortably.
@@bicyclestation makes sense. I just asking, because here in Europe or at least for me. That's the bike I would choose as a fast gravel bike. Trek and cervelo it's a higher league at least for the price. Of course the 12 speed xplr, the 13 speed that's way to much for normal people.
2500 is cheap? back in 2020, I got my complete Checkpoint SL5 with 105 and some shitty wheels. These days you only get a frame? Don't even get me started on the 5k Checkmate and them going back to the more relaxed 2020 geo on the Checkpoint. I hoped for a racy gravel bike with rack mounts for bike packing but they f'ed it up (for me, looking for "the bike to do it all"). I don't see any reason to "upgrade" within the Trek range because I don't feel like it would be an upgrade. I gravitate towards the MOG or Lauf Seigla for example. I'll never be an elite racer anyway, might as well have a wide tire, super versatile bike I enjoy

I’m a big cervelo user - best bang for the buck. i picked up the aspero when they first rolled out. i couldn’t be happier.
Just found this channel. It’s great! Thank you

you guys should do a review on some of your favorite gravel (or road) handlebars. feel like touch points don't get talked about enough!
Mog vs Aspero, same day, same conditions.
I’d watch this!

Giants bike doesn’t have udh. So i think that’s a hard one to recommend. Really limits your drive train options
Great review! I’d love to get your review of the BMC Kaius as compared to the Checkmate and Aspero…
great video. I love your honest fair takes.

Good review. Torn between enve mog and aspero. And go for a aspero simillar geometry with enve mog. Less the price😊😅
Great comparison. With the Checkmate maxing out at 45mm tyres, how does this compare to Aspero tyre clearance?
It’s the same

Beck yeah 🤙 Love this channel!
7:50 I can’t wrap my head around what’s happening here 🤔 he loosens the cassette, flips it, and puts it back on. What did I just see happen??? 😵💫
"They don't know about exercising on the gravel." Jesse's jersey, that looks like an '80s punk mesh tank top, might've spooked them.

I have a 2022 Aspero, and there is hardly any clearance between the chain stay and chainring. Did Cervelo fix this with the updated frame?
I don’t know if cervelo fixed this but the newer wider cranks kinda did if that makes sense.
@ that makes sense! Thank you
Hey guys, could you do a review/comparison with Canyon Grail ?
Someone would have to send us a grail. We don’t have a great financial incentive to make content with bikes we can’t sell
Great comparison.

You were riding 56. Theoretically it's the new "M/L". But without offset in the new CM and different cockpit, did you notice any change of how the bike rides?
Is this Aspero frame lighter then the older versions? I have a 2021 Aspero and the frame on mine looks much chunkier.
Realtree + Pas Normal is wild.
Waiting on the official collab
Do you still have the Allied Echo? How does it stack up to these two?
No udh. 40mm tire clearance. I think it’s a really good bike but I’d put it more in the road bike category at this point.

Great video! What bike mount are you using on the Cervelo?
I have a Crux but want an Aspero Sooooooo Badddd! BTW you guys Rock!!!
Shoot me an email. I can get you one haha.

I'm debating between getting an Aspero or Crux Comp lol
Love your reviews! Which one is more confortable for long distances?
Aspero but that was because the handlebar wasn’t as narrow. Beyond that both bikes were pretty equal comfort wise
Excellent video. Would you consider the Aspero to be used as an endurance road bike?
Yes. But actually I’d rather have the checkmate in that senerio. Its really amazing on pavement
Give me the bottle cage link 👀👀👀
Which helmet are you wearing bro?
What bar tape?
What bar tape is that?
Any idea?!
Great review
How tall are you and what size frame do you ride?
5 11 56cm or m/l in this trek
How tall are you?
5 11
Aspero vs Crux please.
how much for the crevelo?

If the groupsets weren't exactly the same, then the test isn't comparable

Aspero or crux ?
The crux is still super unique. Way lighter than the Aspero. I think I’d pick based on if you wanted cables showing or not.
Dope!

Can you also do a enve mob vs the 3t and then this one’s best vs their best
Add 1lb lead weight to trek. That is very interesting observation. Cool comparison!
TREKmate!
I would like to see a review of the canyon grail

New UDH Crux
