I read "how Doctors think" it's an amazing book which can help we med students especially in clinicals. Also good for Doctors and patients to help in diagnosing a disease, common mistakes, how to avoid it and more. I recommend this book.
I'm super nervous about school in general. I dropped out of high school my junior year since I was hospitalized for 8 months. And eventually went back and got my diploma a few years later at an alternative adult high school. I became a firefighter and a certified Emergency Medical Responder and loved helping the patients. So I knew I wanted to become a doctor. I'm starting my first year of college in august and just worried since I never did very well in biology and me going for a bio degree seems crazy and scary.
Hey Jamie. please make a video about how you study at "not so quiet" places like coffee shops etc. Also what type of study you prefer to do at these places. Thank you for all the videos. Love you. And I think you are INFJ.
I'm a medical student and the best thing ever is ear plugs with headphones on top with white noise playing. You can study anywhere and be completely zoned out and isolated from any noise around you. Seems a bit extreme but I definitely recommend it
its one of those questions where you can be an awesome doctor or an adequate one. I don't think you need to have that strong a scientific background to be a good dr (especially when you become completely clinical) but if you want to be an awesome dr you'll be able to back and work through all the decisions as oppose to learning the rules!! :D
+London's Journal I totally agree. I love Math and Physics but hate Chem and Bio so much because there are so much to memorise (vs. Math & Physics-- no memorising). Turns out they are not important during med school lol.
yea i mean perhaps subconsciously they've helped but im defo not actively doing any physics, chemistry or maths day to day... apart from some primary school calculations when prescribing :P
I'm not going to school to be a doctor but I can say from personal experience that if you don't like science and math it's going to be excruciating in college because you'll take so many especially science classes
Hanah Ladenburger I decided against premed for this very reason. So I graduated college and worked in marketing and felt so unfulfilled. Now I'm back in college getting my science prereqs for med school. I still hate chemistry. But if you'll only feel fulfilled in life caring for patients then you make it work. My two cents.
I absolutely love you!!! Med school isn't right for me although it would be amazing to be a doctor, but anywho you inspire me so much! And it brings me comfort to know that you dont have to be a genuis to do things like med school etc. but that just working hard can get you there! Thanks so much! Xoxo
Most of the math used in medicine is statistics, and that's what's tested on Step 1 (and to a lesser degree on Step 2 and 3). It's also very useful in general throughout your medical career, because you will need it to better understand journal articles and to partake in research. You almost never have to use actual math in medicine except calculating acid-base related things and calculating medication doses, which is like 9th grade math at most.
Jamie my girl, my question for you is how do you have such a well trained self discipline where you sacrifice free time and social life to always stay busy and study? And what keeps you motivated? I would looove to know. Thank you, love you!!!
It is so interesting to hear your experiences. My daughter wants to go to med school, so I have shown her your channel. :) Thanks for all the great info!
Hey jamie!! i love your videos! and you've been a real inspiration for me! Please please if you have extra time could you please do a video on how to stay motivated and tips on how to handle stress and depression in med school?? Thank you so much love!
Most important question of all: How many hours do you study in medical school? I have heard that students are supposed to study a lot because of the difficult course.
Hi Jaime! I love your channel, you're such an inspiration. I'd like to ask: how much time do you get to spend with your family in med school? How do you balance family time and studying? Thank you Jamie :))
Lol watching your videos , I think about actually going to med school! You make me feel I can do it. I am going to school for nursing but want to do nurse anesthesia or neonatal nurse practitioner.
Hi Jamie (and other people scrolling by)! I'm 15 years old. I want to get your opinion on what you think I should do. I love children. Definitely my lifelong ambition has been to have a happy family. I want to be there for my kids and raise them to be successful, however I also want to do a job that makes me happy. Also, I *love* to sleep, but I am willing to sacrifice it if it means my happiness! I do not know what area of medicine I want to do yet, so do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
You have plenty of time to think of those things, just enjoy your time as a kid. Plus, you’ll have to do 4 years of undergrad first before you can even apply to med school.
Do med schools offer nutrition courses? A lot of MDs don't have educational background in nutrition and the majority of our illnesses/diseases today are diet related.
oh my god!!! you answered my question!!!! i was literally looking for my bras on the other side og my bed while i heard you calling my name hahahah! thank you for sharing your experience about lasik with me! it helps me a lot. To be honest, you helped me build up more confidence on myself than anyone else did. Rly appreciate!
Hey Jamie! I wanna ask the importance of research in med school. Can you tell us a little more about how research benefits medical students and to physicians, and if you don't mind, please also tell your personal research story, thanks!!
I'm majoring in Neuroscience & Behavior at the University of New Hampshire starting this fall! Do you have any videos about your major in undergrad/how helpful (or not helpful) that major was for preparing you for medical school?
Hey Jamie. I just wanna ask, will it be best to get lasik surgery done if I am planning to go to med school, or be a doctor? Is it hard to have to wear eyeglasses during rotations and surgeries? Because I have a very bad eyesight and having surgery to correct it is really out of the question right now since my family is in a very tight budget. I thought of resorting to contact lenses in case my eyeglasses gets in the way, will that work? Thanks in advance!
hello, jamie, can you share some thoughts about the research and clinical work? Do you have any research experience? what is the situation in US about how to balance the relationship between research and clinical? after finishing your resident rotation, what is your next plan ? finding a job? or go for a MD or PHD? thank you for answering if you like. love you ~
I love biology, chemistry and physics but I hate math and I literally get 20%’s and it just ruins my whole average when it most likely won’t be needed in med school I hope they change the curriculum
I don't love biology at all. But I love anatomy so much because I went to medical high school for physiotherapist and I was best in the class. I really like medicine but the only problem is that I have to take test of biology and it is so hard and I don't like it and I am not good at it. And we have test of chemistry that I like but I am not so good at it. Any tips ?
lol I know glycolysis and Kreb's cycle, but will I know by the time I get into Med school? lol chemistry math is just basic algebra. So glad I didn't do anything more than calculus, and I got an A
I haven't had my chemistry classes yet so it feel good to know that chem math is basic algebra! I did very good those math classes! Thanks for saying this!!
Which med school do you go to? (if I may ask ^.^) because I'm starting Med School in NY this August, wondering if I'll bump into you in this big yet not so big city
Hey Jamie, I was wondering if you know any sources or method to practice OSCE history taking and physical examination (especially history taking). Would really appreciate your input. Thank you!
I`m really interested in psychology and (maybe) want to become a psychologist/Psychiatrist but because there are certain limitations as a psychologist I think i'd prefer psychiatry. is it worth it to go through pre med and med school of I don't actually want to physically treat patients?
Hi Jamie! I love your videos! They're super helpful. I'm studying for the MCAT rn and I was wondering if using resources for the BSM class would be helpful for studying for the MCAT since you mentioned that the material is the same (and probably more advanced). Thanks so much!
So now I am in grade 9 and I want to be a doctor and I am not the best in maths or biology and physics? Is maths important do I have to be perfect at maths?
Hi! Love your videos.... question: for your first year, are you going to all lectures in person, some of them, or are you studying on your own with the lecture videos? Thanks!
hey Jamie i finished my high school and i have passed with good grades but my strength is in maths and science a bit should I do Medicine or something else
Hello Jamie, There's a little correction in the pronunciation of the authors surname. You are pronouncing it as "Gu-vaan-di" Where as it is "Gaa-vn-dey" !!! Love your videos ♥️ Love from India 🇮🇳
Hey I need help i want to be a nurse I'm in college im Not finished and I need help to get ahead and I want to get ready for nurse what do I do..?? Help
Aside from youtube and your shop, what's your source of income if you have one (if you don't mind me asking). Still have a couple more years until grad school (PT school) but I just wanted to get an idea of potential sources since the debt is gonna be so real
I read "how Doctors think" it's an amazing book which can help we med students especially in clinicals. Also good for Doctors and patients to help in diagnosing a disease, common mistakes, how to avoid it and more. I recommend this book.
When she whispered the answer back i laughed so hard! 😂 I love you Jamie

Hey Jamie. please make a video about how you study at "not so quiet" places like coffee shops etc. Also what type of study you prefer to do at these places. Thank you for all the videos. Love you. And I think you are INFJ.

I'm starting to lose hope in pursuing medicine, after realizing I suck in calculus and physics
i don’t think you need calculus for medicine
oh noo!! please ship to Greece from your website!!! I love the products !!!! 😍😍
It is so interesting to hear your experiences. My daughter wants to go to med school, so I have shown her your channel. :) Thanks for all the great info!

I feel like most doctors are ISTJ so that's my safe bet. I'm an INTP 😌
You are so sweet and your channel is so helpful :) hope things have been going well!
Lol watching your videos , I think about actually going to med school! You make me feel I can do it. I am going to school for nursing but want to do nurse anesthesia or neonatal nurse practitioner.

Piggy Livi Hi! I'm 15 too! I guess if you want to take care of kids as a doctor, you can be a pediatrician or a family medicine doctor?
You have plenty of time to think of those things, just enjoy your time as a kid. Plus, you’ll have to do 4 years of undergrad first before you can even apply to med school.
Do med schools offer nutrition courses? A lot of MDs don't have educational background in nutrition and the majority of our illnesses/diseases today are diet related.
That whisper reply cracked me up! Haha! Hope you're doing well, Jamie! I was really looking forward to seeing Candy in the video :/
I just finished reading Better by Dr. Atul Gawande! I loved it! He's such a great author.

Hell yea to my fellow Neuro and Beh majors >__
Seem like ISFP :), but I don't think we've seen you in overly social situations so may be a surprise! Love your videos xx
The description box is so nice
I'm majoring in Neuroscience & Behavior at the University of New Hampshire starting this fall! Do you have any videos about your major in undergrad/how helpful (or not helpful) that major was for preparing you for medical school?

I'm amazing at science. But math is a big issue for me. I'm a sophmore in high school and I'm taking liberal arts.
I love biology, chemistry and physics but I hate math and I literally get 20%’s and it just ruins my whole average when it most likely won’t be needed in med school I hope they change the curriculum
If you dont understand math, then you are just memorizing.
Hi Jamie, your videos are awesome! I'm always eager for your next video

do you have to have to do physics to get into med school
Yes, most schools require it. 2 semesters with a lab
Tiana Hanson yes, as stated above BUT it DOES NOT have to be calc based. General algebra physics is accepted everywhere(general physics)
Infinite Knowledge thank you for responding
What medical careers would you recommend that do not involve math such as calculus? I’m not great at math but I love medicine and sciences.
Hey Jamie, I was wondering if you know any sources or method to practice OSCE history taking and physical examination (especially history taking). Would really appreciate your input. Thank you!
I`m really interested in psychology and (maybe) want to become a psychologist/Psychiatrist but because there are certain limitations as a psychologist I think i'd prefer psychiatry. is it worth it to go through pre med and med school of I don't actually want to physically treat patients?

hey! I am a BIGGG fan of biology, but not so big fan of chemistry. Is chemistry a HUGE part of the MCAT??
So now I am in grade 9 and I want to be a doctor and I am not the best in maths or biology and physics? Is maths important do I have to be perfect at maths?

What motivated you to become a doctor?Money, prestige, love for medical science?
Aside from youtube and your shop, what's your source of income if you have one (if you don't mind me asking). Still have a couple more years until grad school (PT school) but I just wanted to get an idea of potential sources since the debt is gonna be so real
