Wow I love how you analyzed your sleep pattern throughout medical school. That's pretty cool. For a sleep addict like me, sacrificing sleep was the most difficult part of med school😭
sleep is funny! sometimes i get alot of sleep and feel exhausted, other times i get none and feel bright and alert. I think the trick is to keep your sleeping pattern consistent. always getting 6h is better than getting 5-10h over the week? has anyone else noticed this?
London's Journal ahha i agree. i used to only sleep 5 hours a day because of studying, but i felt great. then exams were over and i got the chance to sleep more and i felt absolute shit.
I only sleep 3-4 hours all the time during clinical period. I feel like a dead man walking at the hospital every day. I love medicine but feel like i'm burnt out before even starting my career.
The hardest thing for me was always turning my brain off at the end of the night. I would find myself subconsciously reviewing the info from that day. This is where Mindfulness Meditation really helped me out. Anyone else ever try Mindfulness? Great stuff as usual, Jamie!
Victoria Claire Definitely! So the idea is that we often go through our day thinking about what we did yesterday or what we have to do tomorrow and loosing sight of the present moment. This is called mindlessness. In mindfulness you work on focusing yourself on the present moment by focusing on your breathing and training your brain to ignore intrusive thoughts like, "What enzyme initiates glycolysis?". I would recommend the book, "Wherever You Go There You Are" by John Kabatt-Zinn. However I know people are busy and would be happy to make a video if there was enough interest. I hope that helps a little!
I was expecting for her to just tell us how much sleep she think she got, no this girl comes out with graphs and shit and telling us the standard deviations of all her statistical data. Get it girl! lol she blows me away at how smart, pretty and kind she is .
You inspired me alot.I am in my pre med now and currently earning good grades because you inspired me alot to do good in school.I always watch your study with me video and it helps me to focus more on my subjects. You're an inspiration for us undergrad students who wants to pursue Medical school soon.Love you so much!
Such a cool way to discuss sleep! Love that you took data from your watch and quantitatively assessed each graph and explained why some rotations allowed you to sleep more than others. I'm a visual person so this was helpful. Love your channel! 🙌🏽❤️
Can you do a video on your meal prep? Many students in college/grad/med school struggle to keep a healthy diet. Like a grocery shopping, simple meals and snack ideas for work and school would be super helpful. Thanks for reading! Your videos are great:)
You are actually so amazing! Your videos are so helpful but also the fact that you can be studying medicine AND running a youtube channel....you go girl! x
Very interesting! I'm a young working mom getting an MBA so my schedule is obviously different from yours but my sleep is probably a little less... glad you're making rest a priority!
Please make a video on how you manage to study at 'not so quiet' places like you do at coffee shops etc. Also what kind of studying you do at such places. Thank you, love you Jamie.
I'm surprised you get as much sleep as you do, they make it out to be that every med student is sleep deprived and suffering (maybe it's subjective though/different for everyone). Nice video.
rubat0 I think it comes down to time management. When I started nursing school 2 years ago, I was told to say goodbye to my sleep schedule and social life. I followed exam blueprints and studied regularly and found after my first year I still got sleep? I still had friends? I think it's the people who pull all nighters and find themselves catching up on studying that tell people students in medical disciplines that it's normal to be sleep deprived
This channel is amazing. The people in the comment section are so positive and motivated to study and sacrifice a lot of things just to achieve what they want in life :)
I love your videos! If you can find the time, could you make a video about how you balance your studies and your boyfriend? I'm finishing up nursing school and I've found that either I'm spending a lot of time with my boyfriend and neglecting my studies or vice versa. I'd love to see how you balance that with a busy med school schedule 😊
Great video. Really easy to understand and interesting. How you have time to make such clean edits and graphics while managing your schedule is beyond me, but keep it up!
How do you manage your self-care, mental health, personal/family problems & unexpected hardship? I had a difficult time staying caught up with grad school during some of those times.
Did you ever make a Step 1 summary video after you took it? I was trying to find it and see how you did! Trying to help my boyfriend work on his study schedule now, and you're my go-to resource for all things med school! 😊
Hey Jamie you're such an inspiration for me even if I'm a law student haha and live in France (just so you know you've fan there haha) ! I was wondering if you could make a video about failure... how to go over it etc ? Did you ever fail ? some tips when you feel like you did ... Anyway I admire you so much you're wonderful ! Kisses from France
Great video! Thanks for all of the information! ^^ I used to track my sleep with my fitbit, but I stopped wearing it at night lol. Maybe I should do that again... :)
What Ever biology, hands down. You'll be more prepared with that knowledge and skill set. Mechanical engineering will develop perseverance and good study habits needed for med school, but (I believe) will not give you an advantage academically. Best of luck!! 😊
hi, I didnt get a notification for this newnvideo as I usually do, just wanted to ket you know. Loved this video btw. I want to do this for grad/ned school.
I've been suffering with insomnia recently , 6 hours is a really good night for me, I've been trying meditation , but is there anything else I can do ? It's really starting to affect me
I bought some highlighters on thestrivetofit.com and I'M SO HAPPY WITH THEM! They're so pretty and I can't thank you enough for putting them on your site. I love you and your account!!!
Great video! I find that if I'm not in bed or dozing off by 2AM then I can sleep until Noon and my body will still feel unrested so I suppose the time of the day/night matters as well :)
I'd be enrolling in med school this month. My goal is AT LEAST 6 and a half hour. I'm also planning to go vegan and avoid coffee as much as possible. Hope I can do all this. Let's all become a doctor while staying gorgeous 😎
I'm looking for the watch that you have with the brown band, the ones you linked only come in white and black. Do you know where I could find it? Thank you!!
It's weird because they were on the website before the video was up. Oh well! She did add a new t-shirt that looks cute though! I was honestly just waiting to see if the sweatshirts came back before placing an order with that and some of her stationary lol
I'm really curious about what time you go to bed and get up. I'm also a medical student. I'm in 3rd year. I use sleep cycle app now to track my sleep and I have 6:44 hrs in average right now. Is that good or should I sleep more?
How can I do to sleep more? I am in high school and I sleep like 4-5 hours per night T.T This is my routine. I wake up at 4am. I take a shower, I get ready for school. And then I take breakfast. I leave my house at around 5:45 - 4:50 and I arrive school at 7:00 am. I stay there until 2:30pm. T.T And I come back to home at around 4pm. I eat, which takes me 1 hour. So start to do my hw and to study at 5pm. If I want to sleep at least 6-7 hours, I need to go to bed at 9-10pm . From 5pm to 10pm I just have 5 hours to: study, do homework, study english (note that I am not a native english speaker haha), study german, work out, read in english and spanish, time for myself :C I feel that 5 hours are not enough for all those things.
Hi Jamie! There was an issue with my order (missing pen) and I emailed the gmail address on your website, but no response. I know you're busy, but was just wondering how soon I could expect an answer/the missing item? Thanks for your help!
Hi Jamie, I'm just looking for some advice from either you or someone that can help. I am a sophomore premed major currently with a 3.6 GPA. That is just for this semester. My freshmen year was a complete trainwreck. I got a D and a C- in Intro to Bio and a C- and a C in Intro to Chem. I really want to go to medical school but I am not sure if that is just too far out of reach for me at this point. My advisor isn't being very helpful so Im not sure what to do. Should I retake these courses along with fixing my Organic chemistry grade? I believe I read that the AAMC takes all transcripts. So if i take these courses at another college over the summer, they wouldn't replace the grades but I could do way better. Overall i am just looking for some sort of guidance because I am lost HELP Thanks, Love your videos
I know that drinking too much coffee is not good for health, but do you drink a lot of coffee? You seem to do a lot in a day. Honestly, I would fall asleep easily in lecture if I sleep less than 7 hours, and go without coffee.
This is such a interesting video! I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel!
Amanda K Jamie uploads really interesting and inspiring content :)
Eat bulaga

London's Journal yeah. ikr. must keep it consistant

+Audrey Natalia It's Worth
audrey why are you sleeping so little? burnout is a real prob with drs!

haha so interesting - never thought to compare different specialities like that! oh man I don't miss the crazy hours of surgery!!
... As I watch this video at 230 in the morning 😭

MEDICAL STUDENT: Living on massive amounts of caffeine, sugar and ramen noodles and forgoing sleep to become a better health professional...
Same for pharmaceutical students lol
Haydee as a pharmaceutical student, I agree.
Omg Hi, I'm a pharmacy student as well, I'm 17 but I just finished my 2nd year :)
Hi Kareen 👋💗
kareen roda Good luck!!! Just got finished with Pharma. 💕 Keep it up!

You are actually so amazing! Your videos are so helpful but also the fact that you can be studying medicine AND running a youtube channel....you go girl! x
Great video, sleeping is so important! I feel like I can remember so much more when I get more sleep
Something so satisfying about this video, think it was probably the graphs lol and how the data was collected over such a long period of time
I'm surprised you get as much sleep as you do, they make it out to be that every med student is sleep deprived and suffering (maybe it's subjective though/different for everyone). Nice video.

Great data collecting!
Thanks!
Great video. Really easy to understand and interesting. How you have time to make such clean edits and graphics while managing your schedule is beyond me, but keep it up!
I am a med student from China, and your video is quite inspiring!,thanks a lot!!!
This is awesome :D To see how it all looks in numbers and graphs. You are even more awesome, I love watching your videos
How do you manage your self-care, mental health, personal/family problems & unexpected hardship? I had a difficult time staying caught up with grad school during some of those times.
home girl did std Dev for sleep hours 😂😩 do my lab reports for me lol
Like yeahhh😂😂
I really like how you dedicated time to show the graphics and everything, very very nice, congrats!
this was actually really interesting to see. great idea for a video!
also, your music choices are always on point!
I ❤️ this channel so much. It gives an amazing insight to all viewers! Thanks and keep doing it! 👍😄
This channel is a testament to growth! Great video
I’m doing my undergrad being a mom of two and forth year. I’m like I wish I can do homework while sleeping
Did you ever make a Step 1 summary video after you took it? I was trying to find it and see how you did! Trying to help my boyfriend work on his study schedule now, and you're my go-to resource for all things med school! 😊

I'd say anything above to six hrs is a good sleep night
How old is she? I'm curious
Thank you so much for this! You're a blessing to all of us considering going into med school 😊🙏🏼❤
I hope you do another video like this for step 2 and 3 and residency
Great video! Thanks for all of the information! ^^ I used to track my sleep with my fitbit, but I stopped wearing it at night lol. Maybe I should do that again... :)
I have been waiting for that video so looooong!!
I missed your videos! :) Great as always, Jamie!
Please make a video on things to do and things to not do as an undergrad!
Also when napping are you doing power nap? less than 30 mins, or longer periods?
Awesome video! You are a very inspiring and awesome person. Keep it up!
Which is better pre-med biology or mechanical engineering??(plz don't answer "do what you love"
Biology
What Ever biology, hands down. You'll be more prepared with that knowledge and skill set. Mechanical engineering will develop perseverance and good study habits needed for med school, but (I believe) will not give you an advantage academically. Best of luck!! 😊
Ok. Thank you all for the replies☺
Engineering. Because you won't have time to delve into other fields once you're in med school. And pre med biology does not give much of an edge so...
crazynfreaky9.9 I'll definitely consider what you said
This is so helpful! Thanks so much for collecting all this data!
hi, I didnt get a notification for this newnvideo as I usually do, just wanted to ket you know. Loved this video btw. I want to do this for grad/ned school.
This gives me hope still, I love sleep.
I've been suffering with insomnia recently , 6 hours is a really good night for me, I've been trying meditation , but is there anything else I can do ? It's really starting to affect me
Have you tried ASMR & talking to your GP?
What type of ASMR would you recommend ?
MedicEne try some work out in the evening maybe it'll help you
Yeah im going to try doing that next week
MedicEne Melatonin helps me sometimes.
Can you mention about how you use Qbanks for exam preparation ?
She always has some really cool graphics in her videos.
I bought some highlighters on thestrivetofit.com and I'M SO HAPPY WITH THEM! They're so pretty and I can't thank you enough for putting them on your site. I love you and your account!!!
Great video! I find that if I'm not in bed or dozing off by 2AM then I can sleep until Noon and my body will still feel unrested so I suppose the time of the day/night matters as well :)
hi jamie :) can you tell us how you manage to study on less sleep? or does it not bother you? that's something I'd really like to know :)
How real is she😍
Whoa! Thats a lot for a med student isn't it? How much sleep have you been getting in undergrad?
I find internal medicine more tiring than surgery .The days seem so much longer😅
I agree! OR makes me forget the time, every day goes by so fast & enjoyable.
I'd be enrolling in med school this month. My goal is AT LEAST 6 and a half hour. I'm also planning to go vegan and avoid coffee as much as possible. Hope I can do all this. Let's all become a doctor while staying gorgeous 😎
this was a really interesting video! i try to get 6 hours sleep everyday but end up speeping a lot more😢 until exams hit and sleep becomes a myth🙅
I Love your video so much, and i think you have a great personality.
best wishes from palestinian medical student.
I'm looking for the watch that you have with the brown band, the ones you linked only come in white and black. Do you know where I could find it? Thank you!!
I'm not sure if you spoke about this in another video but, do you plan on restocking your sweatshirts of t-shirts in your shop?
Melanie Williams Theyre not even listed as "sold out" anymore, they're just gone! 😳 I'm curious as well!
It's weird because they were on the website before the video was up. Oh well! She did add a new t-shirt that looks cute though! I was honestly just waiting to see if the sweatshirts came back before placing an order with that and some of her stationary lol
You guys are quick 💖 haha I just changed it!
i love love love your videos! esp this one!
did you get a haircut? sorry this is so random but looking good!!! :)
I'm really curious about what time you go to bed and get up. I'm also a medical student. I'm in 3rd year. I use sleep cycle app now to track my sleep and I have 6:44 hrs in average right now. Is that good or should I sleep more?
Officially finished with the first year of medical school! Ahh... now comes the research.
This video is amazing! Thank you so much (:
How can I do to sleep more? I am in high school and I sleep like 4-5 hours per night T.T
This is my routine.
What can I do*
Maybe you got enough time because of the flexible school system that you have there in the US T.T
Can you study during your commute to school in the morning and on the way home in the afternoon?
How you remain inspired to do so much things
You look so good with this length of hair!
When is the Q&A coming?
Hi from Spain! Really interesting video. But how much do you usually like to sleep when you don't have to wake up early for work or studying?
4-5 hrs is good enough for me. Was so paranoid about medicine courses.
This is all valuable information. Thank you.
Can you do a separate video on the watch or do you already have one on that?
How long do you spend time in gym? and how often you go? feel like gym is wasting time little here
Hi
Is this watch silent or you can hear clicking ?
Can you talk about if you get summer breaks or winter breaks and your social life and friends and family
What did you major in for your associates and bachelor?
I majored in Neuroscience and Behavior!
TheStriveToFit I'm looking at this major. What school did you attend?
Alex Younk she said in a video that she went to Barnard college for Neuroscience and Behaviour as undergrad
Where can I find this watch?
I like the music......as always!
About the watch ,does the bluetooth stay on at night?
Do you think you slept more or less during your undergrad? I am a second year and I swear sometimes I sleep 4 hours a day.
What software do u use för making ur videos. I have to make one for school and i am really bad at this. Thanks
What is the watched called I didn't get it in the video...?😬
I think it's called a withings watch!!
Hi Helli! I have it linked in the description box under fashion and accessories :)
Thank you 😊 😘
Great video!
Hi Jamie! There was an issue with my order (missing pen) and I emailed the gmail address on your website, but no response. I know you're busy, but was just wondering how soon I could expect an answer/the missing item? Thanks for your help!

Does time fly by in Med School?
What kind of doctor do you want to be?

I know that drinking too much coffee is not good for health, but do you drink a lot of coffee? You seem to do a lot in a day. Honestly, I would fall asleep easily in lecture if I sleep less than 7 hours, and go without coffee.
