One Plus started out cheap but now they're just as high as of a Samsung flagship phone. Right now they're no longer a flagship killer as they became a flagship company themselves with their prices on their new phones.
You know I remember Eazy and J. Will talking about this in a livestream. The mid-range is going to be where the real fight is. People already have particular expectations of flagships. Mid-range is going to allow so much room to flesh out.
That's good, but I've been a Samsung user since day one, really don't care who is running the game, but these high end companies needs some competition to step they game up 🤷🏾♂️

It's a great start but I still think getting a S10e from renewed is a better deal. You get the Snapdragon 855, AMOLED screen and flagship camera. This is coming from an iPhone fan not a Samsung fan too.
I wish them luck. I'm a Samsung guy but competition does nothing but help us consumers. Having said that, its very hard for new brands to break into the smartphone market successfully. I look forward to seeing what they can do!
I'm a Samsung fan, but I do believe this is only going to push Samsung and Apple, the 2 biggest players to readjust their strategies. Apple is already doing it with the SE and the new rumored prices of the iPhone 12 series. Samsung can do it, I'm sure they see whats happening.
That was my last phone. Overall its a beast of a phone. But it does have some Chinese ways about it. Just little annoying things. Like if you ever restart it it will get stuck on hey Google in set up. If that happens you have to. Reset charge language then do it again. You want understand it but just hit agree on right . Then it does have ghost touches especially when it gets cold for some reason. In real cold weather the screen will start acting crazy. But for the most part it was a great phone. I had the s10+ before that and now I have the s20+ really it was about just as good other than camera. The phone is super fast. Great screen and the battery drains a little faster but it makes up for it in charge speed. I love that about that phone. It charged in no time. Overall you will be happy. But do not accept the oneplus terms to help you with your experience. That is just a way for them to spy on you. I learned that because I started getting all kinds of calls and emails from China. Remember it is a Chinese phone. So just be careful on it and maby install extra security
Never owned TCL products, but have seen plenty of satisfied TV customers. Give them some time to get the cameras and things could get real interesting.
I think once this phone starts getting recognition from media and those crazy channels like mkbhd, unbox therapy etc etc, TCL is going to start blowing up on the phone market side.
That's obviously the plan. IMHO, this phone does nothing to standout from Motorola, Samsung, Honor, Redmi, Realme etc... which all offer similar/better phones at the same price.
Walmart has been selling very budget priced TCL phones for a little while now. These look much better though! I'm still enjoying my Amazon Renewed S10 Plus, big thanks to Travis for the recommendation.
Another home run Travis. I can agree with everything you said as some years back I had an Alcatel phone. Nothing fancy, but it worked and worked well with the best voice quality I ever had in any phone before or since. The ONLY thing that we have to keep in mind is Samsung's ecosystem. If you have the Samsung phone, their tablet, their earbuds, the Samsung Pay etc., and it's all synced like Apple products are...then you will buy the TCL just for the phone and not the tech behind it. Like you stated in this video...that just maybe their intent. We will be keeping an eye on them for sure. Thank you.
I’ve always saw this battle coming within Android phones! They all run the exact same software so no real way to differentiate from one another. You can slap a 2 year old camera on it at this point and it will be more than good enough. Samsung is taking advantage of the tech geeks by making them think they need 30 gigs of ram in a phone and use that as a selling point lol! Most people just use their phones for Social media, taking pictures/video, browsing the web, texting, calendar and health tracking.
Most people does not apply to everyone. Some people are editing right from their own phones. To be honest though I do see your perspective but I also see the open market. That s20 ultra for $1400 will be half price in the not too distant future.... That's an insane value for $700 on that device
Great video Travis. Can you please do a video about how people should not be upgrading flagships phones every year? Talk about how the iPhone XS and the Samsung Galaxy S10 are phones we pay to keep for years. I just feel that at this price range of $1000 starting price for a flagship, we should be keeping the phones for 2-3 years so companies like Samsung and Apple would stop the ridiculousness of pricing their product higher every year.
Keyword to remember is TCL = Budget Samsung = better quality Plus if it don't have a AMOLED or OLED display I don't want it call me spoiled. Don't mean that the TCL phone is bad to me I just rather have the better display technology over older technology. Also Samsung's A series some if not most have Super AMOLED displays so the TCL can't truly compete with them as LCD is no match for any type of OLED panel that's my view at least.

Possibly but there are others going for the mid range crown and Samsung's neck too like, Xiaomi, Oppp, etc. Unless Samsung comes to sense with both, its mid and high end phones it's going to be kicked off the top. It started in China, now in India and so on.
The smartphone manufacturers were focused on features that don't matter, like thin bezels e.t.c making the whole production very expensive. Just give decent bezels, 90hz screen, good camera in a price around 400 and if TCL does that, then will be a game changer.
Also I want to add this! If TCL makes a deal with Google to make a Android One device that gets regular updates for around $250 they can start to make a big difference in the budget phone business for sure. I'm sure they would sell a lot of TCL phones that have Android One on them.

The interesting part will be how their software support will be and will they continue to make smartphones at this price range. Companies that enter into the market seem to come in a lot on the price. When OnePlus entered the market in 2014 they introduced their $299 and $349 smartphones and over the years they followed general market trends and increased their price. When Google was first on the scene with their Nexus line of phones they came out at lower prices as well. The Nexus 4 release price was $299 and $349 as well. These phones were praised for the price to value. Over the years Nexus was dropped and the Pixel line follows the same pricing trend as the rest of the market but then Google realizes people they needed a cheap option and introduced the Pixel 3a. I know the LG G and V series wasn't known as a budget line but value for older LG phones start falling into budget prices. The depreciation of LG phones are crazy but it's no surprise on their track rack for software updates. Smartphones remind me of how PC's were. In the early years you needed to get the top of the line because the mid of the line models weren't good. They lagged or it took forever to do tasks. No one like celerons because they were so slow. But as time passed and cpu's got faster even tablets are able to do the work only desktops were able to do. We no longer need intel i7 to do the average task consumers throw at it. It's the same thing with modern smartphones. Unless you are using your smartphone to do work or pushing it to the limit you don't need to spend thousands of dollars. Those spaces are now reserved for enthusiasts. Look at the price difference of trying to make an average desktop setup compared to paying two to three times as much for a gaming rig or a dedicated professional video or photo editing computer. In every sector of the market, you end paying several times more for the top of the line product compared to the base model.There will be exception to the rule but we will just have to see the track record for TCL as a smartphone manufacturer now.
Question is...how many operating system or letter updates you get? You will definitely get periodic bug fixes, camera software and Google app updates. Not sure how well they updated their Alcatel branded phones. Blackberry primarily updated their TCl phones...on one occasion a TCL installed app showed up on some Blackberry phones
Just bought a galaxy s20 for 500 after tmo's 500 off sale. And i think the one plus 8 5g is like 350 right now. TCL may still have trouble competing against flagship phones with tenure. But carriers will probably give budget TCL phones away free with contract sales. And that's ok because their prices are getting way out of control. And that will hurt sammy and apple. Btw, Travis, you so rock.
Update on the Amazon renewed s10+. They replaced it no problem. Took about a week for the round trip device turn around. New phone they sent still had a few dings in the aluminum band around the outside but everything else looks and works great. Thanks for suggesting the Amazon renewed line 🍻
I feel like they're going to need something unique to TCL to set them apart from the bigger names with brand loyalty and history on their side. It's getting really crowded in the under $500 market. Why choose them over a Samsung A series where I know and trust the product. If everything else is equal I know Samsung pay works great and the phone is nicely built to last.

Being that it's the newest budget phone on the market that Apple is trying to get into. I wonder how long they plan on supporting their devices. If it's all it's cracked up to be, definitely worth buying. But as you know, specs don't always tell the full story.

What's with camera bumps nowadays? No more flush cameras around. It's always an annoying uneven bump with popular phones these days.
The issue is TCL never provides software update. I've had a TCL phone in the past and never got software update.

Question is...how many operating system or letter updates you get? You will definitely get periodic bug fixes, camera software and Google app updates. Not sure how well they updated their Alcatel branded phones.
Blackberry primarily updated their TCl phones...on one occasion a TCL installed app showed up on some Blackberry phones

Just bought a galaxy s20 for 500 after tmo's 500 off sale. And i think the one plus 8 5g is like 350 right now. TCL may still have trouble competing against flagship phones with tenure.
But carriers will probably give budget TCL phones away free with contract sales. And that's ok because their prices are getting way out of control.
And that will hurt sammy and apple.

2021 now. Should I buy the TCL 10l to save money? Any concern about updates?
Update on the Amazon renewed s10+. They replaced it no problem. Took about a week for the round trip device turn around.
New phone they sent still had a few dings in the aluminum band around the outside but everything else looks and works great.

I feel like they're going to need something unique to TCL to set them apart from the bigger names with brand loyalty and history on their side. It's getting really crowded in the under $500 market. Why choose them over a Samsung A series where I know and trust the product. If everything else is equal I know Samsung pay works great and the phone is nicely built to last.
TCL is a brand people know and trust in the US. They can easily leverage that.

250 bucks....wow! I forgot all about TCL! Their coming for EVERYONES HEAD with this one. Specifically the new SE 2020. Being that it's the newest budget phone on the market that Apple is trying to get into. I wonder how long they plan on supporting their devices. If its at least 3yrs of security patch and OS updates....GAME ON! Cause Samsung only does 2 major with 3 to 4 for security patches. 🤔....that could for Samsung to support their devices longer so they can compete!

I’m glad TCL is doing this....we need a disruption in this “charge more” “Brand crazy” bunch that have been dominating...The Google Pixel could have been that, but Google needs to watch the demand for the “a” series over their regular group
