My favorite is Paulie. I used to work in a neighborhood in Brooklyn where his Mom lived and used to see him all the time. What a nice guy. He is the real deal. He’s not acting. What you see in the show is how he is when you meet him in the supermarket - except for killing people. Haha.
Nancy Marchand won a lot of awards for playing Livia Soprano. You really have to watch her closely in the early episodes to see what she is doing. An excellent performance, but a lot is subtext. No spoilers, but keep an eye on her
The Sopranos was so groundbreaking, James as Tony Soprano really paved the way for characters like Walter White, Vic Mackey, Dexter Morgan, Ray Donovan and so many other anti-heroes we've seen these past 20 years or so.
The show starts off a little slow in the first season to build its characters, but by the end of season 1 it kicks into high gear and it's smooth sailing from there. Gets better every season.
Gandolfini had Tony Soprano down from day one. One of the best performances ever in this series. A terrible human being that you can't help but to love.
This was life in NY/NJ for anyone Italian whether in the mafia or not. EVERYONE knew someone or had friends or family who were “connected”. The further back you go in time also, more Italians were connected in one way or another as it was the way to make good money from the early 1900’s through the 50’s at least; and then it tapered off more and more every decade since as Italians had more opportunities…
I watched this whole show for the first time last year, blew my mind how good it was. Whilst I'm not 100% positive if I would call it my favorite TV show, I would definitely say it's the greatest TV show I've ever seen.
The character Olivia (Tony's mother) is based off of David Chase's own mother. David Chase is the creator of The Sopranos. Also, Silvio (the guy who quoted Pacino) is played by Steven Van Zandt of Bruce Springsteen E Street band, and Paulie (the guy with the highlights on the side) is played by Tony Sirico who was an actual associate of one of the mob families in New York. Went to jail 20+ times. He also had a minor role in Goodfellas.
As a die-hard Sopranos fan that has seen the show over 7 or so times since it first aired - want to tell all of you that watch these - there will be A TON of little details/things/moments you wont get without seeing the whole episode. Fair warning - just go with it ;) Finally you two get to what is easily the greatest TV show ever made. Enjoy! :)
Have you seen that "Many Saints of Newark" movie? If so, how was it? I watched the series when it first aired...waiting each week for an episode...then waiting for a new season to start; ugh. All these reactors have it so good!
@@Brooklyn_Bleek It’s received pretty poorly, and I personally think it’s pretty meh. It focus more on the riots rather than the backstory of Dicky and Tony more in the movie, despite it having ANY connection to the mafia at all. I’d say give it a shot because it has some fan service that’ll make some Sopranos fans satisfied and happy, and it’s more Sopranos content (nothing can be better than that). But don’t expect it to be as good as the series.
The mafia back in the day used to control all the garbage. Lots of people & businesses in New York and New Jersey. If you’re restaurant has a tonne of stinky food garbage noone will want to eat there. That’s where they can control the price on the garbage removal . Lovin you’re channel Matt from Oz 🇦🇺👋
Oh goodness, I'm SOOOOOO excited for this!!! Such a wonderful surprise! I watched this fantastic show for the first time last year and I'm so glad i did. Lol. I'm so excited for this journey!😊💚
Brooklyn here! The actress who playing the host at the restaurant came to the Bar I worked at on 1st ave and St.Marks. for drinks with some friends. She told me that 99% of the people in Hollywood are pretentious pieces of shit!!! Drea de Matteo. We talk for a good while. She really has a beautiful heart!!!
YESSS!!! It’s such a great drama, but what really made the Sopranos great was how revolutionary it was. It gave television a cinematic quality, it brought in (I think) the first anti-protagonist on tv, in a time where tv was happy shows with laugh tracks. Ultimately tho, it spawned many tv shows we have today and shaped what television has become! “There wouldn’t be no Walter White, without Tony Soprano” - creator of breaking bad.
So excited you are watching this now! I just started watching it the week before you announced you would be. I just finished season one. It’ll be so much fun seeing you watching along. Also, it’s great that you are watching this and Lost. With the new shows all having shorter seasons now there aren’t many people willing to make the commitment to watch the older shows with lots of episodes. But it goes fast. Look how far along you are with Lost! Really looking forward to this!
You're going to find that this show is actually more of a comedy than people originally would assume. It's hysterical! And yes, it's a "family" drama in both forms of the word: his actual family and his mob family. I hope you pump these out. Once you get through season 2, you won't want to stop. Occasionally you may have to devote one video to one whole episode. There is going to be a lot to react to and unpack.
Mr. Movie’s dad joke of, “this isn’t about singing?”, is actually what Jamie Lynn Sigler (Meadow Soprano) thought she’d have to sing when she originally auditioned for the show.
The first 2 seasons of The Sopranos are some of my favourite ever. It’s got that retro, late 90’s vibe with the cinematography, very light hearted and fun. Almost a rustic vibe captures that Jersey street life perfectly. I think it contrasts well with the later seasons with are shot much darker and dramatically because by the end of the show you’re looking back at the beginning as kind of the melancholy “good old days” period.
It's one of those shows that you like more and more each episode and you also realize how intelligent it is with each rewatch. As you pointed out his family is a big part of the show which gives it a broader appeal than if it was a straight mob drama. Even my mom enjoyed this show. Glad you're reacting to it.
Such a unexpected surprise! Love this channel sm and I’m happy I get to tune in more with your sopranos reactions!! I literally finished watching this show late 2021 and I CAN’T WAIT to see your future views on this show! Much Love !!!

This is the absolute best show ever! I've seen it multiple times, sometimes multiple a year and I've listened to a handful of podcasts about it. I'll watch it over and over until I'm dead. Glad y'all are watching it.
The Pine Barrens. Paulie: You're not going to believe this. He killed 16 Czechoslovakians. The guy was an interior decorator. Christopher: His house looked like shit.
You're right. It's a family drama. 2 families. his own family, and the mob family, perfectly balanced via his visits to Melfi (the shrink). It's not just an italian mob show.
This is the greatest show ever and pretty much was considered as such until breaking bad. This show gets better and better and Tony soprano is one of the greatest TV characters of all time.
Something to remember about the first episode is that it was literally filmed 3 years before the second episode was even written, It is was made as a pilot that sat on the shelves of various networks for those years. It was also made with the intention of being able to be released as a movie if nobody ever picked it up as a show. That is why the first episode is somewhat cartoonish compared to the rest of the series and some things that happen in it don't quite fit with things that happen later and the actors all talk and look a little different in the very next episode . It is still a great episode and does set things up nicely even though some of it does change. But it puts across the general theme of the show you are about to spend 100 hours of your life watching.
I remember when this came on HBO for the first time I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not, by the end of the third episode I was hooked. R.I.P. James Gandolfini.
Oh hell yeah! This is definitely one of the greatest TV shows of all time. You're in for an incredible ride. It has action, drama, suspense and a lot of comedy. Paulie is the best. Tony's mom is the biggest drama queen I've ever seen. Great reaction. Enjoy.
Your 2 immediate takeaways of it being a real family drama and Tony being a layered character are spot on and both those aspects only get so much deeper and better as it goes on, so im sure you guys will continue to enjoy it...looking forward to it

The notifications bell is set on hair-trigger. This was a great and seductive series. And i missed a bunch of the episodes originally, so i'm happy you've chosen The Sopranos. I think Tony is my favorite character. Thanks -
The Sopranos is a masterpiece. Over 20 years old and it is as relevant today as ever because it's about people, relationships and family, and power, control, money and crime. All of life is here. So well written, acted and filmed. The level of detail surpassed anything that had gone before I had ever seen. A movie, but for TV, in 86 parts. Who would have thought that would work? But it does because some episodes set up for things that pay off several episodes later, and some just stand alone. It's about everyday stuff, yet epic, tragic and hilarious in equal measures and you will love it. Enjoy the ride...
I can’t tell you how happy I am to see y’all reacting to The Sopranos. It’s one of the best dramas of all time and, sadly, pretty much no one reacts to it.
You two definitely picked a good one. Being from Jersey, I am all too familiar with the locations they show. And like all the other great TV dramas, it gets better as the seasons progress.
the real people who own Tony's house should turn it into a airbnb , they would have to re-do the inside to clone what we see on the show but damn they could set any price and you know people from all over the world would have that place booked all year round
@@hltron5781 If I'm not mistaken, the house was up for sale a couple of years ago and listed at about 3 mil. Shit, if it were converted into a bnb, I would love to stay there if I could afford it.
I'm very glad you are reacting to this. It's a great ride. Hopefully you gonna stick to it because maintaining a viewership for this type of content is a uphill battle nowadays. Definitely in my top 5 shows.
Finally! Why are so few people reacting to this show? It's widely considered one of, if not the greatest television shows ever made.
Right? I’ve looked for Sopranos reactions and there are basically none! I’m excited.
Nobody did it because when it was on TV there was no RUclips
There's not many ppl who watch breaking bad or the wire either
people like more instant action and fast paced stuff nowadays
Not too many reactors are not smart enough to understand and enjoy the sopranos and the wire the normies certainly didn’t
James Gandolfini gives one of the truly transcendent performances in all of TV. I hope you guys enjoy this show. It changed TV forever.
It’s the greatest performance ever put to screen
RIP
One of? His performance is THE greatest dramatic performance ever in history.
@@delraybrewer I would have to agree
Transcending from what to what? I'm not saying he does a bad job, he's great. Maybe his best role, definitely biggest. But why transcendent?

Which I think for a show like this that is vitally important to do.
It hit a bit of a lull around the first half of season 4 in my opinion. But then it recovered and was honestly better than ever in season 5

Gandolfini had Tony Soprano down from day one. One of the best performances ever in this series. A terrible human being that you can't help but to love.
