Believe it or not Tony Joe White was a neighbor of mine in Corpus Christi, Tx. On Mable St. late 60s he has a son named Jim Bob I remember him he would sit in his garage and play his guitar, the thing I remember the most was he built a house boat right there in his front yard. Good people.
Tony, was a good guitar player and a good singer he also wrote Rainy Night in Georgia . Good looking guy, looked a lot like Elvis, this song is a classic gem!
I love it when they look meaningfully into each other's eyes, giggle and laugh. Everything seems unrehearsed and spontaneous. Unbelievable compared to today.
Love Tony Joe Whites sexy deep southern drawl accent, whew, what a “double trouble” show here with Johnny too!! Chomp Chomp Chomp haha. Living in OK, transplanted from WY at age 6, I’ve developed a cute slight southern “drawl” myself. Never knew I had it until going back to visit relatives at age 17 and new teen friends I made, asked me to talk to entertain them and laugh, my “17” vocal came out as “Semanteen” haha. Such fun memories!!
I am reminded what a great record Polk Salad Annie was. The guitar was sooooo cool, and Tony's voice just amazing. Fun too! Played that 45 a 100 times. You Younguns' look up what a 45 is. Not only a gun.
How cool it is when one of your favorite musicians sings with another of your favorite musicians! I didn’t know there was such a wonderful duet, thanks for sharing. And what a warming soulful vibe!
Johnny Cash & Tony Joe White were two of the real greats of American music. Tony Joe White is the only man that I got to see play a full concert with a live snake holding on his guitar strap, the snake love Tony Joe's music so much that he waggled his tail with enjoyment and never threatened to bite.
These 2 just had too much fun here! What a classic, classic performance. When I was a kid I thought it was Jerry Reed singing this because he did several humorous novelty-esque songs. I learned later it was Tony Joe. I also got it mixed up with “Amos Moses” since that song is set in Cajun land as well. Anyway, thanks for this upload! This is a fantastic video.
As a Southerner (like me) Tony Joe knew that it's actually called “Poke Sallet” (poke for the pokeweed and sallet from an old bastardization of the French word salade) but I'm guessing he wanted the title to be less confusing to non-Southerners). Anyway his voice was fantastic and this is a dream duet.
That's MY song! 😊 I am Annie...have been for 65 years now. I have never seen this video. How awesome. It's wonderful! I will watch it half a dozen times and then go to bed, sleepin' like a baby. Thank you. This is a great gift tonight. 🎉
@@publius1252🤭 Can’t believe you said “that?!!” 😜 Years ago my teenage son and daughter teased me with the new “slang”, gave them a good laugh at my expense and I learned something, haha!
Great performance of a great song. Maybe somewhere it's "polk" salad but back in Arkansas where my folks come from it's poke salad. And it's pronounced "poke salet." 😊
At an aftershow fan meeting I raised my voice and said to Tony Joe White: Tony, you were an outlaw before that term was cool. - He bashfully smiled. Johnny Cash was an outlaw from day one.
GRANDE JOHNNY CASH, O HOMEM DO VOZEIRÃO. ESSE OUTRO AÍ NÃO CONHECIA, MAS CANTA BEM, MAS CASH TEM PRA NINGUÉM. ESSA MÚSICA É LINDA, E COM ESSA ORQUESTRA FICOU INCRÍVEL.
If we only had musicians and shows like this today.
These men are just so cool. Not even trying. NEVER will be their likes again.
I've been saying that since the 80s. They started dwindling down in the 80s. Now good talent is pretty much extinct.

Why? Was he your neighbour too then..
Wow that is so cool. Figured he was a good person. You can tell.

I'm gonna start grunting like that when I sing. Everyone will think I'm losing it except for us "hip" "outta sight" cool people
When Johnny Cash talks it sounds like he sings and when he sings it sounds like he talks: this is one of his fabulous talents!
How are you? So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song
Two deep bass voices. Great blend.
Now theres something you dont see every day folks.
Tony, was a good guitar player and a good singer he also wrote Rainy Night in Georgia . Good looking guy, looked a lot like Elvis, this song is a classic gem!
Tony also toured with Eric Clapton
Tony also played the harp and wrote “Steamy Windows”, covered perfectly by the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll…
Tina Turner …❤❤❤
Have you heard the song "Boot Money" from Tony Joe's very last album? Great song and I think his son produced the album.
That right there is a pair that will beat a full house every day.
I love it when they look meaningfully into each other's eyes, giggle and laugh. Everything seems unrehearsed and spontaneous. Unbelievable compared to today.
To me, they look stoned, in a friendly way. Straight enough to perform, but not straight enough to take it seriously.
Made Johnny giggle. Mutual admiration .
@@gndrconstantin8377 Cash trying to act hip is hilarious.
@robstevenson675 you should watch the episode with Johnny and Roger Miller if you ain't seen that one yet. They were on one that night I guarantee ya

They look like they were having fun doing that song.

This was awesome. What a fun duet!
Johnny gave this 1941 Martin D-45 , to his onetime son in law, Marty Stewart. Marty plays it to this day.
A pre-war Martin, wow, that's a damn nice gift! JC was getting it dangerously close to TJW's headstock in this video!
Thoroughly entertaining. I had no intention of watching this til the end, but glad I did.
🤣🤣Tony really tickled Johnny @4:00 mins with that mad little ad-lib… Imaging the fun these guys were having ❤️👏👏👏
Best duet in the history of music!!

Amazing voice on Tony White, dang!
Johnny Cas- a true story teller of immense talent and individuality. A slice of Americana Pie! And humble as heck backstage.
Always loved the horns on this tune. They nailed it on this performance.
