Just recently picked up your Pistolcraft book. Haven't gotten to the holster section but so far, just the section "Sighted Fire with a Twist" and "Trigger Technique" has made this book worth it so far. Will definitely need to go through the book again. I haven't even opened up the American Rifleman book yet.

I do this but I soak the leather in water for 5 minutes first. Then let the leather dry. Perfect fit overnight, lasts forever. I will also condition the leather after with a good leather conditioner after and the holster is broken in. It doesn't hurt the leather to get wet, it sits next to your humid sweat body for it's entire life. It gets wet. It's fine, just like your skin gets wet and then dries. If you live in a dry climate you put on lotion. If you live in a humid environment you stay wet most of the day. Same for your holster.

What is the purpose of the plastic bag? Modern tanning methods shouldn't react with the metal, especially over a short three day time period.
Therefore, if you're not 'wetting' the leather, I don't see any purpose for the plastic bag.

Nothing wrong with leather, leather is awesome, but even the highest quality leather will eventually wear and soften over time (they are an organic material - dead animal skin), and be mindful of wear in the area around the trigger guard so it doesn’t fold inwards & you get an ND, which has happened before. They do have a lifespan. Obviously rare and infrequent, but it’s something to keep in the back of your head for safety.

    • @M2fiftycal

The opening on the Milt Sparks holster he's showing is metal reinforced, so they don't get floppy like that. They're great holsters, it's the only leather ones I use.
Unfortunately they are so backed up that they have a 40 week backorder time for custom orders, so unless you want an in stock holster you're kind of screwed.
