    I like it, however I’ll stick with my 2010 1200GS with nearly 100,000 miles on it. I’m 74 so my bike and I will expire about the same time. I think we have at least a few more epic trips left in us.
    If I were in my 40s / 50s I’d buy that 1300 in a second. I love that green paint, lighter weight and massive power!

    Others have noted the noisy engine note. They have put it down to the construction of the new engine in which they have used stronger alloys but the walls are thinner! This is perhaps allowing more mechanical noise to exit the engine.

    Thanks for the review, I just tried it here in the UK: outstanding engineering, amazing what they can get of this boxer engine, smooth as butter for a twin, excellent quality, i have nothing to fault (except maybe a hard seat) and that is my “problem” as it has become the perfect machine lacking personality. I loved my GS back in the 2000s but prefer now KTM or T700. Nevertheless kudos to BMW to show the world what perfect engineering means in bike production.

    It seems a great upgrade (a naked 1300r keeping the fancy suspension as they did up to the 1150r would be great!). But you are right - for 25K it should come with far more standard, not just the expensive 719(?) billet bits.

    Point taken regrading the nits relative to the fact that the bike is quite expensive. The lack of backlit switchgear and not having an integrated moving map available on the TFT (CarPlay or other) are my personal biggest. It's probably worth noting to your viewers that the Option 719 version you are test riding adds significantly to the price for what are essentially cosmetic upgrades (green paint, billet aluminum bits, gold handlebars and gold spoked wheels) over the Triple Black and White models, at least it does here in the USA. My guess is that it's a similar situation for the EU. For reference, in the USA, selecting the Style Option 719 adds $3,195 to the price here in the USA. That is regardless of what other packages and options one might also want.

    The lithium battery saves a lot of weight. The black plastic on the windscreen is a bit distracting. The seat to footpeg distance looks shorter? How many GSs out on the road have you seen lately that haven't been dropped? Mirrors and handguards will likely be expensive and difficult to replace I would think.
    I'll be interested to see if the new GSs more sporting nature will compare well with the older GSS more touring orientation.

      $26,500US for a trophy with all the options. My '13 fully loaded GSW was $19,500. Over 10 years that's an increase of 3.6% per year and the new bike has so much more. Hard to really argue that it's not a good deal although you could say the '13 was way overpriced too, but I don't agree.

    It's an amazing bike for sure, but they should have made a little better looking front around the lamp and adaptive cruise sensor.
    That's my only complain and some other things you also mentioned, but they don't bother me that much than the front look.
    Other than that they improved it what I wanted: central locking cases, electric screen, lighter, better QS, better looking side and top cases...much better and nicer road bike for me.

  • @cassin11
    @cassin11 10 месяцев назад +5

    I agree the front end was poorly designed - the lights, the black wings holding the windscreen, huge radar panel just look ugly to my eyes. The other thing is the key fob - another thing I don't like because I wear leather pants when I ride. The key may not fit any of the pockets as the 1250 key can get uncomfortable at times already in the front pocket of the pants. My jacket pockets are already reserved for wallet, phone, and house key. I want these 4 things in my person at all times for security reason. I'm not convinced that the weight savings is significant because they removed the center stand, 1 liter of fuel and the agm battery. I optioned the1300 here in California to the specs I want. It's over US30,000 with taxes and fees. So no. I keep my 1250. One guy here who ride the same bike was able to put over 300,000 miles in 5 years until he hit a deer recently that wrecked the bike. That tells me 1250 engine is solid. The 1300 is new and has not seen real world mileage yet. Only time will tell if it's really a good engine like the 1250.

    A heated seat would be nice. A GPS which actually works would be nice.
    Would the an singing and dancing version of the 1300 be nice. Yup but it would cost a lot. I will put a few 1000 more KM on mine.

If the headlight is less complicated than my fancy one on my '22 model, it might be worth it in the long run, but the handguards, blindspot mirrors and the radar..... are a waste of money for those of us who ride offroad on our GSs. I would love a modern high performance GS to keep my 2016 R1200GSA company, and I'll test ride one when I can. However, it all feels like too much technology, mandatory keyless ride, luggage with electronics on them, no rear stop light, menus and shortcut buttons make it too complicated. I fear it might not be the bike for me, unless that engine and gearbox really make me forget about how much of a smartphone it wants to be.

      Not when the new 1400gsa comes out. It will be tailored a lot more to onroad touring. Usually the lighter version is better offroad.

      @@LongWayHomeso when comparing the out going BMW R1250 GS adventure and the BMW R1250 GS. The GS is lighter but I’ve always seen them described as the more touring version. The adventure version being more off-road. I agree generally a lighter bike will be better off-road but just confused on terminology.

    For me, it's torture when you only scratch the surface when you have someone who can answer and tell you everything about this hoj. Why don't you have 7 gears? why shorter strokes? Just the engine there is so much to ask. Frustrated how little people want to know and learn.

    • @LongWayHome
      @LongWayHome  10 месяцев назад +1

      I can answer the shorter stoke question. Apparently on the 1300 the shiftcam in bulit-in and makes a lot of difference for low down torque, while on the 1250 it was just bolted on with much less impact on torque, so they can get away with a shorter stroke.

    • @magnusenamd
      @magnusenamd 10 месяцев назад

      @@LongWayHome I think the answer is also that they have problems with this engine to get enough HP. So bigger piston and shorter stroke and a cam that means they don't have to raise the rpm at max torque as much. They have actually raised it. So next time they have to be completely water-cooled and a bigger piston with the same stroke length to get over 150hp if even they can do it?

    • @magnusenamd
      @magnusenamd 10 месяцев назад

      @@LongWayHome koenigsegg drives development forward and mc and wants to manufacture segar so so slowly forward. They have, for example, a 3-speed gearbox that becomes 9 gears. Don't ask me how and it's so small too. Tired of only 6 gears and honda has a 7 speed box goldwing and honda are super conservative and even these can't beat the BMW. I'm disappointed with 6 gears and idle revs like 4000 rpm at 110kmh. Pathetic with 1300cc with such high revs in 2024.

    Love this. Though obviously not in this weird green color - the Trophy version with the wire spoked wheels is the obvious way to go.
    The more compact, lighter and funkier design is a lot more appealing to us younger guys (under 40). The old tonka-toy design was pretty boring and because of that it attracted a pretty boring crowd (the cliched 55 year-old suburban dentist was not far from the average owner). This guarantees it will keep selling well for years to come.

    Agree front end is very disappointing; ugly looks like a tribute to Elon Musk, I always liked the headlight design on R1150RT, obviously not suitable for GS model. Not loving it I’m afraid, no illuminated controls! Hope the handgrips and seat are heated at no extra cost. I’m 1.88m and if BMW have changed the rider position geometry the bike is definitely not for me, 1250RT is really uncomfortable after an hour in the saddle, aware suspension drops when stopping.
