I’m quite certain this 1300 GS is a great bike. Took one look at it, then 2 weeks later I purchased a 2023 R 1250 GS. Couldn’t help myself. The 1250 is completely “the bike” I wanted for years. Could not be happier. To all these motorists, the 1300 is better, yet the 1250 will always race my heart. ❤️

Same as myself, looked at a 1300 but fell for a 1250 tripple black. Never ridden a bike like it and absolutly amazing bike.

But maybe you screwed up? I recon LOTS of nearly new/better than new 1250s will be on the market shortly simply because the 1300 is "All New" If even 10% of current GS owners cant stand riding "the old one" then that is a LOT of bikes suddenly on the market....combined with a tad bit of recession?? BTW did you steal your slogan from Yamaha? "Revs your heart"?

Very honest with the finance figures Bruce and you should be highly commended for doing so. There should be more about purchases & costs on these reviews as it’s something we all have to do. Last year I bought a new Honda CRF300L cash, this year my SDR’s finance will cease (£226/month) and my R1250R is mine also. Always light at the end of the tunnel mate.

Not necessarily, but if you are lucky enough to experience it and properly put it to the test it’s a beautiful thing. Yet another review that covers what an everyday rider wants to see. Nice one.

Fantastic info, Bruce. I think the 1300 will do really well. I’ve had my vfr1200x for over 3 years, full dealer service all its life. Reflecting what a few have said, individual dealers make a big difference. I’ve had some not so great and others have been fantastic. Never had so much as a single warning light in 13k miles, typical Honda. But, to be fair, it has less tech than the arc. Keep the great work up. 👍

I have treated my Crosstourer to an Akrapovic end can and with the baffle out gives it an extra 7hp so 136 in total.
Suspension has been upgraded to Nitron R3 rear and Nitron TVT fork internals.
Top Selerie seat and McCruise electronic cruise control.
Givi Trekkerfender bash plate, Michelin anakee adventure tyres.
All very expensive upgrades especially here in New Zealand, but I doubt Honda will ever make another V4 adventure bike.

      @headrace4863 10 месяцев назад

@@pl1068 great mods… the nitron option is top on my list. The standard suspension is passable, but no more. Sadly, I think big V4’s are really struggling to meet modern regs.

@@headrace4863 you will not regret doing it, the low and high speed ( shock speed) compression damping stops the bike dipping on the brakes and the seesawing on full acceleration gear changes.
Speed bumps disappear and if you hit a pot hole the high speed circuit absorbs it fully.
We have a lot of gravel roads here and they are now a pleasure to ride.

I've had so many Japanese bikes and no problems. With BMW it's expected and therefore OK to have warranty issues. Fine if you want to spend time going back and forth to the dealers.

I was looking forward to this video, someone who knows the 1250 extremely well and now owns the 1300 - seems like a ton of positives, especially if you like a sportier edge. I love the new look, a far neater design and would seriously consider buying it 👍🙂

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  10 месяцев назад +3

I genuinely love it Nick - believe me, I’d say if I didn’t.
So far the only negatives for me are:
New lithium battery is pants. You have to let it warm up prior to starting, which can take over 30 seconds at times.
Really don’t like the lack of button for the heated grips - all the accessories like heated grips/seat, screen, cruise control radar sensitivity etc are all operated by one switch, you have to select what that switch operates and it’s a pain in the arse.
I don’t like the smaller and less sculpted tank - range is about 10-20 miles less for me and it doesn’t feel like I can lock into the tank with my legs when standing up anymore (I’ll be testing this next month when I go offroad on a 1300).
There seems to be more electronic intrusiveness on the 1300 - if you’re accelerating hard and the revs are up, it feels like it cuts in a lot more when changing gear to lower the impact on the drive shaft possibly? I noticed it on the 1250 after they did the shaft drive recall, but this one is more evident I feel.
I think that’s it so far.
Huge step up/forward for the GS overall in my book 👍👏

On my 5th BMW, mixture of GSs and XRs and the customer service I receive from Cotswold Mottorad in Cheltenham is amazing and the reason I keep buying the brand. In 250000 miles I've only broken down twice and both times it was dealt with quickly and professionally. It wheelied over a slight crest at 180kph and deffo feels more nervous then my 1250 but then it would because of the extra power. I will try mine with the suspension set on the low setting to see if this steadies her up a bit. if not then i will just get used to it 🙂

I nearly went for a GS last March (I buy under a year old with minimal miles for cash) but the dealer Bahnstormer Alton wouldn’t move an inch on any of their bikes (meaningful amounts)- so I walked. Premier Bikes Abingdon offered me a Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro less than a 1000 miles on the clock, less than a year old under 14k last March, I even squeezed them for a heated seat. I think the new GS is a real winner, I’ll be looking at one in 12 months assuming I can get a deal, the engine sounds louder than the old 1250 is that right - anyway enjoy! (love your vids BTW) 👍

As a short arse the 1300 is the first GS I can just about stretch so's now a viable choice, I know a lot of owners of earlier 1200 and 1250s aren't big fans of the new looks but I really like them and the more compact design.

Still waiting for mine as it’s currently stuck at BMW UK waiting for the recall bits to be fitted but should be here early new year; coming from an 850 GSA so may have to ride in rain mode for a while before I get used to it 😂. Never had a bad experience over multiple BMW dealers, had a KTM once. Never again. The dealer went bust unsurprisingly!

I have the option 719 full options. In my opinion it is a race GS. And that is exactly what I wanted from this new GS. I am stil breaking in the engine. Found that the gearbox was harsh in the beginning. Needed a lot of force to change gears but it is getting better and hope after breaking in and changing Oil it will be perfect. Is your supplier of ceramic coatings also do bikes in the Netherlands?

Hi @TeapotOne - enjoying your content. This is my first GS .. I bought the shiny green one with gold spoked rims ;-) (the chavvy one - lol) but love your triple black!
How are you finding the quick-shifter? It's possibly me, my previous bike was a Tiger 900 (which I found really dull, but my previous bike to that was a GSXR1000), I found the Tiger's quick-shifter really smooth -- however I'm finding the GS1300's quick-shifter a bit clunky - especially 2-3 ... but also 5-6 up and down -- like I say, possibly me, not heard yours clunking at all through your videos.
Also I'm finding the front brake leave pulls a bit close to the bars, I'm used to 1 or 2 finger braking while holding the throttle .. but have found I can't apply enough pressure before I'm crushing my fingers ... span I've set to the widest; but have been trying to adapt and not 1-2finger brake.
Loving the GS, so much more responsive (as you'd expect) from the Tiger ... I felt the Tiger was really vague on the front, where I'm finding I'm a lot more confident with the front of the GS.
May see you around on the South Coast roads!!

@TeapotOne Great video!!!! Do you find the knee bend and or siting position different than on your 1250? I have heard the foot pegs are set further back and the knee bend is different. I am 6 foot tall and concerned about the ridding position. We don't have them in the U.S. as of yet so I can't sit on one yet. I had a 2019 GSA and loved the sitting position. Just curious how different it is on the 1300. Thank you!

Thanks bud, aye I’ve ordered some engine bars and just waiting for them to be delivered now.
Backlit switchgear - this has been a hotly debated topic amongst the GS forums for a long time. Lots of people on both sides.
BMW just seem to have dug their heals in here and categorically stated it’s not their intention to backlight the switchgear as they don’t see a need for it - that’s what I’ve gathered anyway, there may well be another reason?
I fully expected the 1300 to have them actually, but sadly not

    Nice one Bruce.
I think the specs etc. Can be a little misleading on some bikes. I went from BMW R1200R, 125bhp and nm torque, to KTM 790 adventure, 90 something bhp, about 80nm.
The specs say, it's vastly underpowered, I disagree!
There is a definite difference in power, but......
It doesn't distract from the 'pleasure' of riding the bike.
    I ride a little differently, that's all.
As you said, it's the 'feel' of the bike, not the specs.
