So you showed a video of a group of experts doing a comparison test. Was it intended to actually provide results of the comparison here? Because this video has absolutely no information regarding a comparison.
I thought Yachting World would know how to present a catamaran comparison test.....this video shows they do not. I learned absolutely nothing about these cat's....even when I could hear what people were saying. If I see another video by this outfit, I sure as heck will not waste my time checking it out......
agreed. I was in confusion on what they were comparing to what? this vid sounded more like reminiscing from personal voyages on other boats. this is just rubbish.
if you could have lost the last wasted section on racing cats and given some useful information on how each cat was judged to perform it would have been a lot more informative.
Interesting video but as a comparison between the three boats it was horrible. I would love to watch a video of the testers racing experience but I watched this to COMPARE the three boats but it never did. For the purpose of the video it was a complete waste of film.
Nice video, could we do it again with a little more analysis? How many degrees off the wind will the come? How does each hull design handle chop/waves? etc etc like you usually do.
I agree with some of the other posters, albeit a little more delicately, that it appeared that the review was just getting started when it transitioned to a video of a sailor's personal racing experiences. I was hoping for more along the lines of the Gunboat reviews (love those!). If you are taking requests, I'd like to see independent reviews of the 45' cats from Lagoon, Fountain Pajot, and Antares. Keep up the good work!
How nice it would have been to actually SEE THE INSIDE of those interesting cat's! As many have stated, not much comparing going on in this comparison test. I've entertained the idea of a catamaran for a while now, but I can't seem to get a feel for what a short trip or longer voyage would be like on one of them. One seemed to have a much larger cabin than the others. And there was one comment about one of the models demo'd having a narrower hull -- Albeit no interior shots or mention of which one had the narrower hull. Was it less comfortable than a wider hull to use for the weekend? Which cat' had the better design, build, livability? A nicely shot and edited video that left me with more questions after watching it than I had before! Color me frustrated!
Erin, You are right and there are very significant differences between different cat designs. The Lagoon has wider hulls than the Lipari. I haven't sailed the Broadblue, so can't comment. If you are in a warm climate, you'll end up only in the cabins when you turn in for the night, so we found space below a negative (just slows you down). The Fountain Pajots are a good compromise between sped and comfort, with the new lines (Helia, Sanya, Victoria & Saba) having amazing exterior spaces and saloons.
If you have the money I'd take a look at a Gunboat. The new 60 is incredible and Torqeedo has a hybrid system that's been installed on one named "Moonwave". You are looking at a cool $2, 750, 000 for a boat like the Moonwave with Torqeedo hybrid. watch?v=ImU82SmmtQI For a lot less money you could look at the 55 that's been built in NC. The 60 is being built in China interestingly. BTW the 66 is a once piece carbon fiber hull but all Gunboats are carbon fiber.
Why are we listening to a guy talk about sailing a hundred foot plus sailboat with fourteen crew at night in heavy seas and NOT hearing about the top speeds of the THREE cats?(!!!) What was the point of this video? I thought you would tour all three boats and do tacking tests and races. What a waste of time this video was.
I think the faces of the editors at 6:30 and 6:59 sum up Yachting World's opinion on crusing catamarans. Nose turned up and looking as if he smells something unpleasant. Then asking Brian Thompson, a racing catamaran sailor, how fast he'd been in a multihull boat and to expand on that story for almost a third of the video shows where the editorial team's interest lay. Probably not a magazine for crusing sailors or aspiring cruising sailors unless they want a monohull racing cruiser. edit to correct second editor face time.
You cannot have a meaningful comparison of cruising cats without the Antares 44i. Everything these 3 designers either ignore, or do not know about building a safe, reliable and purpose-built cruiser has been utilized by Ted Clements of Antares. I don't know about other sailors, but getting myself and my passengers home safely is my first priority - way ahead of gigantic kitchens, flashy furniture and multiple (exposed) helms!
This comparison is about how comfy you are at harbor. You expect to just day sail, and if you have to go up wind to use your motors. Now are there some cats that can go upwind reasonably? I find that when I sail, I spend more time going up wind than any other point.
Great test. No comparisons between the cats or ANY useful information. Just one unknown guy swanking about his own microscopic participation in some fast passage that he supposedly made. Congratulations Yachting World.
And the result of the test is ....... ? Should re-title the video to - "load of blokes sailing catamarans then talking about their experiences which are unrelated to this video"
You would expect the crews to at least have lunch aboard one of the boats while giving their impressions... Apparently they were more comfortable discussing past experiences in a restaurant ashore.
The experts did not make any comparison of the three boats in the title. After stating that these all showed best sides after tied to dock, one expert told tall tales of racing for record speeds. I am sorry they failed to compare the boats they were asked to look at.
They stacked the stakes pretty heavily against the Cat's here. Both the FP and the Lagoon are heavy and fat designs which simply cannot perform. If they'd added something like a Outremer or a seawind into the equation I think the conclusion would have been very different. There's definitely a compromise between performance, cost and space but the FP and Lagoon both side very heavily with lots of space and low cost meaning that their performance is trash. It's entirely possible to get a lot more performance without massively sacrificing space or cost as the mid sized performance cats have shown.
"You're certainly not going to buy one anyway so stop complaining." The whole point of watching the video was to inform my purchasing decision. Instead of a review we got this. The only thing that is certain is that I won't be visiting their website or reading their magazine if this is what you get.
the best education and real talk from these vids it seems is in the comments. Aren't these all protected inland waters? Leisure target market meet the requirements of him and her to go kinda sorta fast on a floating apartment? Pretty though
So the consensus and results of testing three multihall cats are a completely unrelated story about reaching 45 knots in a monohull racing yacht? What a load of boasting snobbery this 10 minutes was. I may never watch another Yachting World video after this rubbish.
its hard to see any merit in this review when you have people saying he had sailed his cat 45mph. it's hard to get a foiling racing cat to ever do that.
-- just a lofty, patronizing comment about how they may be slow but still good for purpose.-- I see, read this about these Catamarans in every article, Which is very strange. These are Water RV's not race carboats Maybe RV people should review the boats and we would get better reviews and Videos
Your videos are quite good, but you need to plan your story lines a little better, and for god's sake, pay attention to your audio mix! I'm not here to listen to crappy royalty free music - there's absolutely no need for it to drown out the voiceover like that.
Showing the boats underway, pulling into a dock and participants sitting in a saloon with one boasting of his speed accomplishment on a cat not in the test group is NOT a test in any sense of the word. How about quality of build, handling, safety features, innovative designs, pros, cons, etc.?
They weren't even in one of the saloons. They were in a restaurant with a reservation card on the table when the designer and the racing sailor were talking. You can see the card at 9:18.
??????? and the final analysis is that a child can sail these boats with glee. The kids loved them and that is all that matters. On the the next analysis where we can see real life statistics, wind speed vs. hull speed, full sails or reefed, etc. etc.
I concur with many of the other comments.... this meaningless "Catamaran comparison test" video takes Yachting World to a world beating educational low! Must try harder.
So the veredict was; nobody gives a damn about the those boats, they just took the free ride sponsored by the builders, ended up telling old sailing tales and you just made a video about it to keep appearances.
A few minutes of the catamarans, then instead of evaluating the 3 boats they are sailing, they just listen to Mr. Thompsons tell stories about sailing, that have nothing to do with the 3 boats in the video - waste of time.
this is a terrible review of the three boats, really, a shocking waste of a good opportunity. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Indeed there is no 'reviewing' at all, to speak of, in terms of comparing the three for purpose, just a lofty, patronising comment about how they may be slow but still good for purpose.
this was a bunch cat in 14 nt wind, of course its safe! a kayak is safe in 14 nt wind and coastal sea. SHOW us 50 nt 60 nt wind and 5 - 6 meter seas! nothing else matters because until the day I learnt how to calm the fury of GODS I need to live through them right? showing calm weather in a cat and call it a good choice is like showing the past casino winners on their winning day and call gambling a good sport.
So you showed a video of a group of experts doing a comparison test. Was it intended to actually provide results of the comparison here? Because this video has absolutely no information regarding a comparison.
the Lagoon 400 is the best.
Mate - I can hardly hear the voice - the music sound track level is too loud.
ColGadarby so right, those bells got a headache trying to understand what was said.
I thought Yachting World would know how to present a catamaran comparison test.....this video shows they do not. agreed. I was in confusion on what they were comparing to what? this vid sounded more like reminiscing from personal voyages on other boats. this is just rubbish.
A lot of ya's talking about previous racing experiences was that meant to be a comparison?
Supposedly a comparison of three cats this turns out to be a guy bragging about his sailing achievements. In depth bullshit.
if you could have lost the last wasted section on racing cats and given some useful information on how each cat was judged to perform it would have been a lot more informative.
well, that was utter garbage. What was the point again?
Interesting video but as a comparison between the three boats it was horrible. I would love to watch a video of the testers racing experience but I watched this to COMPARE the three boats but it never did. For the purpose of the video it was a complete waste of film.

Can't really understand the narrator or crew. Turn the music off and speak louder & clearer please.
Hearing issues lol ! I can hear it just fine. Maybe its time to visit an ear specialist lol !
I agree with some of the other posters, albeit a little more delicately, that it appeared that the review was just getting started when it transitioned to a video of a sailor's personal racing experiences. Beautifully filmed. Would have loved to be at that dinner
Cheers
you guys hit the nail on the head , a lot about nothing .
the color coded rigging of the 45 is cool!
Pro Tip: Use one captain and crew and have them pilot each Cat and give their pros and cons of each.

i really enjoy your videos. You do such an awesome job.

edit to correct second editor face time.
Stopped this video at 1:33. The volume of the music is a hugh distraction making it very difficult to hear what is being said.
Hearing issues lol ! I can hear it just fine.
apaguen la musica cuando hablen, shut down the music wen speaking please

Great video, so who won, what are the personal reviews? Give us more
music is too loud
agee i, audio is terrible
Are these catamarans primarily the Lagoon rated for open ocean or long distance traveling?
I agree with other posters that the actual review was lacking. Also, the music was so loud and the voice track was so quiet it was hard to follow.
audio is terrible, cant hear the commentator and the music is unsettling.
You would expect the crews to at least have lunch aboard one of the boats while giving their impressions... Apparently they were more comfortable discussing past experiences in a restaurant ashore.

The music is loud and hard to hear what you are saying.
Well after 10:34 I still don't know anything. Was it about "comparison test" or restaurant critic :(
more than half that wasn't even on subject. wtf

Who's Idea was it to play music while you were talking on the video?
Yes but which boat is the best to ram the refugee boats?
the best education and real talk from these vids it seems is in the comments. Aren't these all protected inland waters? Leisure target market meet the requirements of him and her to go kinda sorta fast on a floating apartment? Pretty though
4:48 what brand/model sunglasses is he wearing?
Hardly a 'comparison'... Which one is recommended for what?
The older fellow wasn't impressed and should just stay the hell off cats and sail on whatever it is that gets his jollies going.
Poor audio quality made the accented communication difficult to understand and impossible in some areas.
So the consensus and results of testing three multihall cats are a completely unrelated story about reaching 45 knots in a monohull racing yacht? What a load of boasting snobbery this 10 minutes was. I may never watch another Yachting World video after this rubbish.
Couldn't finish watching the vid. Sound is unbearably anoying!!
its hard to see any merit in this review when you have people saying he had sailed his cat 45mph. it's hard to get a foiling racing cat to ever do that.
Everybody gotta learn sometime.....
i hope you have because this wasnt a very good in depth, lol, test.
In the meantime, keep sailing!
not a real review
What happened to the review ???
Not very much information given in this video. :(
Intéressant. Belles images, mais musique stressante et mauvaise prise de son des voix pâteuses et endormantes des messieurs...;-)
I can barely understand him over the load background music. It was very distracting!
Opportunity Missed.......or was it a test of the cameras?!?
-- just a lofty, patronizing comment about how they may be slow but still good for purpose.--
I see, read this about these Catamarans in every article, Which is very strange.

DONT BOTHER WATCHING THIS , NO COMPARISON !

the damn music was irritating .. someone obviously didnt know how to edit
Need to avoid all these Yachting World videos. USELESS
super
I can't hear anything with the fricken music in the background. Turn the music down!
Showing the boats underway, pulling into a dock and participants sitting in a saloon with one boasting of his speed accomplishment on a cat not in the test group is NOT a test in any sense of the word. How about quality of build, handling, safety features, innovative designs, pros, cons, etc.?

Drop the music thanks
Kill the lame music please. I will never understand why so many marketing boat demo videos have annoying music!
I concur with many of the other comments.... this meaningless "Catamaran comparison test" video takes Yachting World to a world beating educational low! Must try harder.
just low performance cats built for the charter narket
NOT a comparison at all. Several experts sitting around chit-chatting. Total waste of time !
Sorry you got dragged into this one Toby.
So the veredict was; nobody gives a damn about the those boats, they just took the free ride sponsored by the builders, ended up telling old sailing tales and you just made a video about it to keep appearances.

Lame clickbait title. Where's the actual comparison??
cant understand
I can't get past the music, so I stopped within a minute.
For gods sake sort the incredibly annoying music out ffs
what a pac of wingers why dont you lot just take it for what it is
advetising
What a waste of time, most of the content was about some bloke bigging himself up... Don't bother with it.
Learned nothing !
wha comparison? misleading title. pretty pathetic
Yachting World's in-depth comparative test of three cruising catamarans," 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bullshit click bait - no comparison and no results.
Garbage. No information at all...
this is a terrible review of the three boats, really, a shocking waste of a good opportunity. You should be ashamed of yourselves. mumble mumble ding dong
what a waste of time
Rubbish basically. forget about it.
