I think the Series X is an under appreciated machine for collectors. It plays: Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One & obviously Series X|S games. Granted it isn't total backwards compatibility, but there isn't really a console with that degree of range - the fat PS3 I suppose. It also has a disc slot, which plays a small handful of games that are disc only backwards compatible that otherwise would be locked to the original Xbox and the 360. I really like the Series X, they need to lean into backwards compatibility more, it's the best feature of the Xbox.
Not only that but the games are improved. You can play Oblivion at 4k 60FPS with faster load times on series X. I use it to play 360 games more often than modern games.
I remember watching you when I was in middle school or first year of high school on a regular basis. One of the first channels I subscribed to. I just turned 30 last week and I'm still getting new Pete Dorr videos. Time flies and life is awesome
Totally agree with people getting fed up with streaming and not owning digital content. Streaming services are getting more and more expensive and adding a ton of ads now. I’ve recently been picking up a lot of blu rays and DVDs at thrift stores and flea markets for $1 to $3 while I can. I feel like physical media in general will be going up in price soon because of these reasons.
My problem with collecting Xbox one games is a lot of the games I’d want to buy don’t have the full game on the disc so at that point you might as well get the ps4 or digital version.
@animedrawer69 ohh, Totally. I don't think they put anything on first party disc, except rare replay, and even then we had to download 40% of the games.
The problem with xbox one/series collecting is that the consoles require an internet connection to activate right out of the box. This is effectively console-based DRM and a non-starter for collectors. One of the many reasons PS4 won that generation is because nothing stood in the way of ownership. You could get a ps4 or a launch ps5 and play physical games without ever connecting to the internet. BUT, playstation has this problem now too with the slim ps5. Because it has a detachable disc drive, it has to connect to the internet at least once before physical games can be played just like the xbox. The reason for this has more to do with copyright laws rather than sony hoarding control, but the end result is still the same for the consumer: less control over the things you buy. The fat ps5 with the built in disc drive is still safe tho 👍
There's a few games where the DLC is on the XBOX disc but not on the PS5 disc. Cyberpunk Complete, for example. I go for those. If that were a policy for M$, it would be a consumer-friendly move.
That’s what I heard which surprised me. I’ve just recently started eyeballing Xbox games to see if there is anything that I might want. Any other games you recommend for Xbox 1 or XSX complete on the disc?
@@SilverSurfer17 Terminator Resistance is another one. It got a physical release on PS4 and an enhanced one on PS5, but the DLC was sold separately. It's fully complete on XSX though with the enhanced game + DLC.
Thanks for the suggestions, I’m gonna check some of these out. You gotta start somewhere. I have maybe 5 games for the XB1 none for the XSX, just 360 games.
The large problem with Xbox One & Series-X consoles, is they can't be jailbroken like the Playstation ones. So collecting physical keys/games for XB1 & Series-X consoles, strongly depends on their servers still being up & obtaining the updates & large portions of games not on the disc.
I simply dont trust Xbox One/Series physical games. There's so many games that require updates, if you're console is online it forces you to download the updates, not to mention the consoles themselves are basically DRM locked. I have really zero desire to collect those games, give me PS4/PS5 any day over those, and I really don't care how cheap they are.
UM… you can set it up to not auto update or lock you out while offline. I game offline and do not suffer from auto update all the time. If it’s something you shouldn’t trust it should be your knowledge on the subject. Cuz you just gave shit incorrect intel.
You can play many xbox one games without updates but the issues comes with series x. Smart delivery screwed up preservation so bad since 99% of series x games are download only. PS5 by default is the only way to get most physical current gen games
@@lronlance6366 Most PS4 and PS5 games can be finished to completion without ever connecting online. It's why PS5 versions of games tend to retain their value more than the series x version. Smart delivery is the xbox one version on disc with the current gen games being digital download. There are exceptions but they're few and far between.
Microsoft pretty much invented the whole day one patch scam. So most Xbox One disks contain an unplayable buggy broken mess. As soon as the servers go down and you can't download the patches anymore, those disks become as useful as a coaster, to put a glass on. I think most collectors are well aware of this fact, which is why most of them don't care as much about collecting for that console.
Untrue. Most Xbox One discs still contain a decent playable build. Same with PS4 and PS5 games. It's Series X you have to worry about not being fully on disc since Microsoft is still using regular BD-discs instead of the 4K UHD high capacity discs PS5 uses.
I just bought an Xbox One S yesterday as I finally found one at a really good price. I'm excited to start collecting for it, but to be honest I mainly got it as a backwards compatible machine as I've never had any xbox console, and there is only about 10 xbox one games I'd ever be interested in
Got it for £65 and it came with a few games. I think thats roughly like $85. I might upgrade to a Series X when they get cheaper, as at least here in the UK they are still around $300.
The Xbox One and Series X have one major problem. The console itself needs internet to be activated the first time and in general it's a lot more internet dependant. This will inevitably make the hardware a lot less accessible when buying from the second hand market years after it has been discontinued. We're already seeing base Xbox One VCR models becoming bricked because they haven't been updated for a while. This also means the physical games are rather worthless and nobody cares since the hardware won't work properly. As long as this issue isn't resolved by some kind of jailbreak physical Xbox One and Series X will not be desirable. There is also the misconception that most Xbox One games don't even contain the full game on disc which is just not true. On top of that the dominance of PlayStation right now just means Xbox isn't top of mind.
I collect for Xbox One and SX and its my preferred system to play on if they are released on both systems. (I current own close to 900 XB1/SX games.) The games I watch for and pickup every chance I can are the obscure recent Japanese games that get a release for the system. When Unicorn Overlord came out I had a hard time finding a copy for XBSX, the PS5/4 where common as hell. I asked Gamestop and they got in 2 copies compared to PS5/4 getting over a dozen of each. Others I recommend getting are AI: The Somnium Files, Fallen Legion, Loop8, Neptunia, Persona 3 Reload, Raiden IV, Sea of Stars, Scorn, (scorn is rarer on XB yet only the PS5 version shot up in value, heck many thought it was a PS5 exclusive because they never saw the XB version, plus it got a re-release from VGP but not the XB version) and of course any of the LRG releases (I swear I see far less of these sell compared to the other consoles) while you can find these games at market price (or cheaper) now, in the years to come they may be harder to find compared to the versions on PS5/4 and Switch. The only thing holding them back as far as value is there's a ton more Sony and Nintendo collectors then Microsoft.
I've owned a Series X for about a year and have picked up a few Xbox One games recently. Such as the Dead Rising port from 2016, and Shadow of War. I think i'll continue to pick up more games for it as time goes on. Shooters are more comfortable on the Xbox controller, so i'll get those on there for sure. Xbox One does have some very cheap games. Take Transformers: Devastation for example. It's around $50-$60 for the PS4 version, but only about $20 for the Xbox One version. If you're looking to just own some 8th gen titles physically for the cheap, then it's well worth investing in. The problem comes in with the Series X games. Plenty of Series X cross-gen games like Sonic Frontiers, Resident Evil Village, or Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth only come with the Xbox One version on the disc, and you just download the Series X version when you insert the disc into your console. I don't really like buying new 360 games I don't own physically for this same reason. Backwards compatible games aren't reading off your disc, it's just giving you a license to download the emulated version. Also, every time I go to my local retail store, especially GameStop, there are very few Xbox One games. There is a shelf full of PS4 and PS5 games, but just a very small Xbox section. Like you said, it seems lots of people aren't buying these physical copies and there isn't a high demand for them. It will be interesting to see if there is a price jump on some of these, especially the exclusives, in the years to come.
I have been collecting Xbox games in recent years. I noticed the exact same things. Psyical stores don't even sell them anymore and webshops most often only got a handful of them. Sometimes even 3 or less copies of the same game. (Even when they are brand new and just released) I don't know what the future brings, Xbox is kind of dead right now in Europe. But if things ever start to pick up again, I think I've got a lot of somewhat rare Xbox games on my hand which I bought dirt cheap :)
Great video Pete! I personally strongly believe that Xbox One and Xbox Series X games will be collectible in the future. The biggest reason is because games for these consoles will be that last games that your are actually will be able to create a decent collection with. If Microsoft’s next console will be able to play physical discs, chances are that the print runs for these games will be so low that collecting isn’t even worth it. If people will start to feel nostalgic for Xbox One and / or Series X one day, they will have a difficult time finding a lot of titles because so many titles already have a low print run. Just like you mentioned. It’s much harder to find certain games for Xbox than for PS5 right now. I’m really consciously collecting certain Xbox One and Series X games knowing that these will be hard to find in the future.
I remember I wanted to get physical games at the start of the One generation, but the disc drive on my Xbox went bad so I transitioned to that collection being digital instead, and I'd collect for the other consoles out at that time. That being said, I don't think I missed out on much this time around. There's some good collectors editions in the library (Halo 5 imo), but not enough that you can ONLY get on Xbox.
You're absolutely right. For anyone reading this that doesn't understand. You need an internet connection to activate the xbox one/series consoles to be able to add an account and play your physical games. And, for PS5 slim, you need an internet connection to activate the disc drive because it's detachable. That model ps5 is unusable without an internet connection, but the fat version with built-in drive works as you'd expect.
Another point that wasn't mentioned is if gamepass ever disappears in the future... I reckon there will be a larger demand for physical xbox games, and that having physical ownership will be harder to come by
As someone who recently got an Xbone for cheap on FB Marketplace to play some 360 games, I too was surprised with how cheap Xbone titles are not just in places like GameStop but also on the digital Xbox Store. Been using it to play a couple matches of Battlefield 3 before the servers closed. Not bad honestly and quite a cheap venture for those who don’t have that much money for a current console or PC. Have collected a few games (I.e. UMvC 3, Deadpool, etc.) but quite a few in comparison to my PS4/PS5 collections.
Your videos are so easy to watch bro! My PlayStation is definitely on more than my Xbox, probably because I enjoy JRPGs. Loving Tales of Hearts R on #PSVita lately also
I've been watching you on and off for about 15 years, you've aged so well dude. I'm so jealous you have healthy skin and all your hair still. Keep it up!
I am an old school gamer. I like collecting and playing games for the xbox one. I don't use game pass and don't even know how it works. I like to buy a game, put it in the system and go. I would like to to buy or rebuy retro games and play them on my xbox one. I know it doesn't make sense, but I would rebuy some games again just to play it on there again if they are cheap enough. I wonder if I can play the original Doom games on the xbox one? I think I need to purchase them digitally. I was hoping I can unlock them with a newer doom game. Maybe doom slayers collection, but I don't know if that would work. I am thinking of buying the sonic origins collection and maybe the megaman collections. I bought the cobra kai games on the xbox one, playing the 1st one and having fun.
I agree. xbox games are weirdly undervalued and if you like having a cheap collection of physical games. eventually you might find out you have a few gems but there doesn't seem to be a lot of games that are particularly rare. This is partially related to microsoft's MOQ for printing which prevents them from being obscenely rare.
Admittedly I’m an obsessive Switch collector in terms of current gen systems, spend anytime of eBay & you’ll soon ask yourself when you price in the shipping the question sellers are making next to no 💵 on new & sealed Xbox One 🕹 , why bother ? I decided a year ago to fill out my collection that was equally pitiful because cross platform games are so much cheaper on the system I’ve gone from a paltry 50+ collection to 125+ in 12 months I’m still not a fan of the system I’ll still buy a new release on the Switch & PS5 if available but you’ll never get a better time than now to buy games for the system, some of the differences between games also available on both the Switch & PS5 is jaw dropping on how much cheaper they are selling for it won’t last prices will go up when they do I’ll have cherry picked everything I want on the system, if you were a teenager on a budget it would be a very attractive system to collect me in 2024, I see it as addressing a paltry collection for very little 💵 in real terms not because I’m on a budget because it’s Microsoft’s worst system & that dissatisfaction equates to the market value of the 🕹
Hey Pete, I am a big Xbox One/Series X fan. One additional detail to note about the SX is the Series X upgrades that you get for free on a number of Xbox360/XB1/Xbox titles. Another reason I prefer buying some games on XSX over PS5 relates to performance. Two key titles that stick about to me are Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden. The physical copies for Xbox are XB1/XSX which output 4K and 120 FPS on series X. The PlayStation versions of these games were PS4 only with no PS5 upgrade, and as a result only run at 1080p 60fps. I really wish Backwards compatibility would continue to be expanded though!
There really needs to be a database. I find myself checking Digital Foundry frequently. One specific example was Shadow of Mordor being 4K on PS4 Pro, whereas the Xbox One version was sub-1080p. However the sequel, Shadow of War was 4K on Xbox One X and even on PS5 it never got a patch so it can't hit that level. Doom 2016 is another one, it is native 4K on X1X/XSX and blurry 1440p on PS4 Pro/PS5.
Another weird example is Far Cry 4. It is 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One. However it got an FPS Boost update so it runs better now on Xbox but still looks better on a base PS4 over an XSX. A lot of early Xbox One games really suffered because the PS4 versions ran circles around them. However that changed once the Xbox One X released.
Like when dvds started becoming blu rays. We're in that weird change period but this physical to digital is taking longer so we're stuck in that limbo.
My xbox one disc drive isn’t currently working but I started collecting for it again because the games are cheaper and more widely available. I got a used copy of Evil West for $30 compared to $50+ for the PS5 version. The PS4 version is also $30 but I’ve never seen a copy in any of the stores around me.
I am buying Xbox one series x physical games once in a while since they can be cheap like you said. As for modern disc based games, I’m playing them now because I really don’t 100% know if in the future I will be able to just pop this disc in a console, install it and be able to play the game without having to be connected to the internet and downloading an update.
It’s not just Xbox I work at GameStop in Buffalo as a second job for the discount to help with my habit lol. When nhl came out last year we got 7 copies in. 4 for ps5, 1 for ps4 and 2 for series x. This year when paper Mario came out we got 55 copies when normally any first party nintendo game we usually get 100 plus. I worked at the one in the galleria mall at that time and it’s one of the more busier GameStop’s in Buffalo and still not getting many physical games. I’m a small time collector actually inspired by this channel many years ago to get into collecting and what I have to pay for retro games is insane and now new games either don’t pan out or I gotta pay $80 for a code and not have anything for the shelf.
Hey Pete, I'm in a pretty similar boat. I pretty much only use my xbox for game pass and rarely buy physical games on my playstation. I'm starting to shift to digital only because I have an easier time finding game sales on steam sales, psn or xbox sales. You're recent ebay video did inspire me tho to start building my physical game collection! I honestly miss the feeling tho of walking into a game store and finding a bunch of cheap games and buying a lot of games. Even if I didn't enjoy them all, it was pretty fun to shop and have a ton of cases to dig through to find a fun game to play.
Good thing Xbox is my platform of choice for 3rd party games so it is my biggest collection. My buddies play there and I prefer Xbox live over ps online. PlayStation I only buy exclusives. I think I have over 200 physical games.
I let my Game Pass subscription run out once and for all a couple months ago. But I don't need it--I own virtually everything Game Pass could ever dream of, and then some. Almost 1300 games ranging from original Xbox to Xbox Series X|S. All digital, I only collect physical games on Switch. Physical games on Xbox and PlayStation consoles are a joke and have been since last generation.
Playstation is far better than Xbox in terms of physical preservation and it's not even close. You can play Stellar Blade and God of War Ragnarok entirely offline. However Halo Infinite, Forza, Starfield, etc. are all just coasters without internet. Refer to DoesItPlay for the most up-to-date information.
True, but I think the OG Xbox will be a lot closer to its 6th gen rivals compared to how far below the Xbox one will be to the PS4 and Wii u/switch. OG Xbox had a lot of collectible exclusives, and this is an important factor to a library's collectibibility that the Xbox one is severely lacking.
There's one huge thing that gives me second thoughts when buying for Xbox one as a collector, and that's the required online handshake to start operating the console itself. An Xbox One or Series is a paperweight unless you do the online handshake and have an active gamertag to start playing games. There's also the fact that first party games are mostly not completely on disc or nowadays don't have physical releases at all. Halo infinite and Series version of Forza Horizon 5 were the first two games that solidified the Xbox as one not to collect for. I collect original Xbox and 360 games all day but the Series and One consoles wiill always have a huge question mark with future viability.
Xbone is my main console I’m focusing on buying for atm. I generally don’t like having too many consoles hooked up at once and having xbone allows me to play about 1/2 of my 360 library. The unreliable nature of gamepass having games going up and coming down off the service has lead me to mainly picking up games in series I like, even if I have no intention of playing them currently. Main mind set for me with this is that, just like OG xbox and 360, services have gone down and prices have crept up (at least in the UK). I imagine when/if the next online service comes alone and/or the xbox brand dies off, these games will become valuable. Not saying the definitely will do, but I do think theres logic behind my thought process
The only problem with this is that the console itself requires an internet connection to activate. So, hypothetically, if the xbox brand goes away, you'll be fine as long as your current console still works. But, if you have to buy a replacement console in that future, then you wouldn't be able to activate it to add an account and play your games. PS4 and the launch PS5 don't have this problem, BUT the new ps5 slim does. This isn't meant to start a console war in the comments. I just want to inform people so they don't buy a bunch of discs that they mistakenly think they'll be able to use. Personally, I choose to get the ps4 versions of discs even though I have a ps5 because there's a greater ability to maintain ownership with those.
I think a good chunk of One games are on the disc, but One X games aren't for the most part. Going forward this will be a problem, they already shut down the 360 store and who knows how long they will let you redownload stuff. Seems like PS4/PS5 is the only system with everything on the disc(most of the time, there are still the odd release that need patches, like Atomic Heart.) Switch we know has a ton of "download required" games, and we know how Nintendo is with their storefronts.
Hi Pete! Im thinking of starting to collect for different systems, but something that pushes me back is not knowing which games have a physical release. Do you have a website or a place to guide yourself on which game has a physical release?
I'd guess the games that are delisted from Gamepass due to copyright, etc will spike up in price. E.g. Horizon 3 and 4 are pretty pricey in terms of Xbox One games
I grabbed Deadpool for Xbox one for 45 at GameStop. I think it will come down a bit after the movie hype dies down but it is quite pricey already so consider that if youre eying it
I collect for my One X as much as my other systems! I love the console. I’m not the biggest fan of game pass and other subscription services so I love having physical copies. I have over 85 XBox One physical games
The setup requiring an Internet connection has always turned me off collecting for Xbox One/Series. I just chalk it up to being a digital only system that goes away when MS pulls support for the initialization servers
Honestly, I pretty much only have all of the Xbox Console exclusive titles for the ONE and Series consoles, with maybe a half dozen to a dozen 3rd party games... But I do think that because of relatively low print runs, they probably will go up a few years down the road, just due to relative rarity.
Weirdly I have been collecting Xbox One games more where I never had in the past. I got Flight sim, Wanted: Dead and the Inside/Limbo collection. I feel like I will buff it up more, but yeah, it’s kind of the generation that won’t ever have value, and will never eclipse my 360 collection, which is my favorite.
Xbox One will be the least collectible platform ever. The "Grails" will be $50 games. $5 will be a typical game in a future where $5 is a cheeseburger at McDonald's.
Try again! Deadpool is over a 100.00 and ultimate MVC 3 is over 60.00 and climbing. I think that Xbox One and Series X games will go up after Xbox goes full digital and physical games no longer sell in store and especially if games cycle in and out of gamepass so want to play physical games on Xbox will be hard to find
I collect for xbox due to the prices as you mentioned. My rule is if it is digital only on xbox I’ll buy the physical version on ps (if option is there). Sole purpose of buying the physical games is due to ownership.
xbox games are gonna be the go to for people who want to play games on the cheap. I actually prefer xbox games because it handles backwards compatability better than the others, it's extremely painless, just put the game in and it works, usually with an enhancement update. I think these two reasons will be big in the future
i have an Xbox One mostly as a backwards compatibility machine, but I have noticed that on average, an XB1 game is cheaper than the PS4 version of the same game. So I have a decent Xbox One collection right now.
There are a lot of sales I see where it’s buy 2 get 1 free for brand new games, but usually the Switch is excluded and the PS5 version isn’t available… But sure enough, there’s the Xbox version sitting there (often even cheaper). It’s not my console of choice anymore, but I’ll keep buying games for it if they’re cheaper!
I’ve been to multiple GameStops in multiple states and usually they only get enough Xbox copies for people who pre ordered unless it’s a huge release like Madden. If you try to buy anything else day 1 without a pre order you’re out of luck
I got a really good deal on series x last holiday and I skipped the entire ps4/xbox one era in favor of the Wii U and switch. Im not a game pass subscriber either. Lately I find myself excited to go to GameStop to see what awesome game I can find for dirt cheap. It brings me back to the days where you can get older games for a bargain and I like the comparison to DVDs you used.
I often buy Xbox One games for my Series X. They are definitely affordable right now. I don't like Game Pass, for a variety of reasons. I'm hoping Xbox doesn't abandon physical games next gen. Assuming they even bother releasing more hardware. I'm not down for digital only, and I won't support any platform that is. This is why I don't bother with PC.
I own all 3 consoles and my preferred multi game system is xbox one and series x and I own around 300+ games for the console and have no problem finding most games and buy mostly for console exclusives for PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
I’m lucky enough to own a series X and PS5 and I usually pick up most games for the Xbox, I’m currently at 187 and regularly find games I’ve never heard of before for just a few £, definitely system Work collecting for.
I'd consider buying games that were 'all on disc' but that's very limited on the Xbox One because they choose not to pay Sony the licensing for ultra blurays. I think the prices for the Xbox One are, genuinely, "for a good reason". For collecting purposes they're simply worse in every way outside of the price as compared to a PS4 copy of the same game.
I have a sizable Xbox One collection actually. I never stopped collecting with the 8th gen, and even now, I'm collecting diligently for the 9th gen as well. Downloads and GamePass have no appeal to me, I'd rather have the physical copy. Sometimes it's difficult to tell what folks are even into these days, because I don't see pickup videos of people showing new physical releases anymore. I feel like I'm the only one buying them. Visions of Mana physical coming out at the end of the month, btw. I suggest everybody pick it up.
Xbox one games have been cheaper on the second hand market here in the uk for some time! I have a good size physical collection of games i wdnt pay full price for, as i do prefer playstation 4/5. I recently upgraded to a xbox one x.
As someone with 143 Xbox One games, and 42 Series X games in their collection, I support physical over Game Pass on that console. I treat Game Pass as a rental service, subbing maybe once a year, trying a few games out, and whatever I like, I buy a physical of to enjoy whenever I want. As for finding and playing the games, I love buying XBONE games because of the cheap prices as you've said, and if you've got a One X, or Series X, multiplats often perform better as well. So for a cheaper price, I'm getting the same game that either runs as well, or sometimes even better? Sounds like a perfect match. It's also why my original Xbox collection is at 293 games. Multiplats are cheaper, and run better. How can I say no?
I have SO MANY physical games for the original Xbox and Xbox 360. I'm not alone, I remember reading a statistic that those two systems had the highest software attach rates of any consoles. Having the best multiplatform versions helped as well. You almost always wanted Xbox over PS2 or PS3 versions. Then Xbox One happened... it's more expensive and underpowered?! Plus all the DRM nonsense. A lot of us Xbox fans checked out right there. Now PS4/5 are where the physical collectors have gone. My PS4 collection is massive and I've got such a paltry XB1 collection in comparison. Xbox nowadays is just in such a poor place after so many poor decisions. Companies like Limited Run barely support them and a lot of major publishers are following suit and Xbox won't even get physical versions anymore. I loved Xbox but clearly Microsoft didn't feel the same. It's in a sad state and I've moved exclusively away from it.
I'm slowly picking up xbox one games, but honestly its kind of just because i want a larger library of stuff. They're not really worth it because they are rarely playable because you need to download the game files because its usually not on the disk
I usually double dip on Xbox games when they're going cheap having usually bought the "first version" of the game on playstation or switch. Example...I recently picked up( on Xbox) all the newer tomb raider games for £25 for the separate games and all the watchdogs for a combined £18.
I’m collecting for the Xbox one and series X at the moment because it’s so cheap. I do agree that the lower print runs are going to make a bigger difference than people want to admit. I do think that at some point we’ll see uptakes in the collectibility and maybe even price, especially since there’s a history of listing games on Xbox as well as other consoles so some of these favorite games are low rare games get the listed or put behind a paywall I think at that moment that’s when the prices will go up and scarcity will hit if you’re interested at all playing any of these games on the Xbox platform then snag them now other cheap so you can enjoy them later when they’re not so much.
My daughter has pretty much taken over my PS5 so I have been playing on Series X. I buy all physical and play a lot of RPGs. I have been really enjoying it. Collecting old titles is affordable. Remote play is awesome. But I feel like the odd man out for sure.
I don’t think the Xbox one has any games that play off the disc. So I think once service for Xbox one shuts down I don’t think any of the games will be playable
A hot tip for yall! If u can find old BACK COMPAT games that DO NOT WORK, they will work on the Series X! f th egame is scratched so bad th egame wont load, but at least the title id of the game loads, then back compat will load the game data from microsoft servers. U could sratch the disc very backd and still uuse it for back compat. So dont throw them away and tryh to get them fre if u can
A while back I picked up alot of XB1 games that have FPS boost and/or up resolution for my series X several of which I already owned on PS4 due to PS5 not doing this. Assasins Creed Rogue, Lord's of the Fallen, and Mad Max on the top of my head. So much better at 60fps. Personal favorite was Oblivion because 4k/60fps because it has never received a newer release like Skyrim and stuck on gen 7 so dead end on the PS side if the house.
I've got 10 times more Xbox One games than I do on PS4. Xbox has always been the console I get multiplatform games on. Having very few games that are super expensive for people to buy and play is always a good thing.
Ive got a huge xbox one/series x collection because theyre literally identical to the playstation counterparts, but usually way cheaper. Game pass is ridiculous because youre paying a monthly fee for a ton of games that you could own for dirt cheap. The only thing in my eyes that makes the ps5 stand out against xbox is the unique controller features, but most ps5 games dont even take advantage of them.
Lets get that 2024 room tour! Been watching you for over 12 years now, glad you're still around
My series x is primarily used to play Xbox one or 360 games with higher rez auto HDR etc I love it ❤
@ewantu Exactly, it's like official emulation. Really good for preservation, just wish they did it for more games (ideally all)
@mitchbrannon3418 yeah, I've not got to try HDR yet, but having older games in 4K is such a huge selling point they should market more
Series X is great for playing old games.
I remember watching you when I was in middle school or first year of high school on a regular basis. One of the first channels I subscribed to. I just turned 30 last week and I'm still getting new Pete Dorr videos. Time flies and life is awesome
@@ibuy2manymovies i was looking for a comment like this because i felt the exact same. This man is a legend
But isn't Xbox notorious for the whole smart delivery system where only a portion of the game is on the disc?
Yup, that's how it is for Yakuza Like a Dragon. On PS4 the whole game is on the disc
@@thirdsupernova On Xbox the whole game is on the disc as well. It's only the Xbox One version though, the series X upgrade will require a download.
@@thirdsupernova yeah I got suckered into buying that steelbook version on Xbox. I was like, why is this so cheap?!
@@thatssomegoodpie oh ok thanks for clarifying that. Makes sense.
@animedrawer69 that's factually false. If it's a full game on Playstation 4 it's the same on Xbox one ( notice I said one).
@@Eat_like_Irving I’m mostly referring to first party titles. Redfall, Halo and Starfield discs didn’t contain the whole game.
@animedrawer69 ohh, Totally. I don't think they put anything on first party disc, except rare replay, and even then we had to download 40% of the games.
@@Eat_like_IrvingIt's very common on Xbox, which is why DoesItPlay doesn't even really cover Xbox anymore.
@@SilverSurfer17mortal Kombat 11 ultimate is another one
@@SilverSurfer17 Terminator Resistance is another one. It got a physical release on PS4 and an enhanced one on PS5, but the DLC was sold separately.
It's fully complete on XSX though with the enhanced game + DLC.
@@SilverSurfer17 Metro Exodus Complete Edition, Greedfall Gold Edition and Oddworld Soulstorm come to mind.
PS4/5 require updates too..
@@Cruxis_Angel the newer gens are trash anyways no posters, maps, manuals and increased the prices for less. Gen 7 was the last real physical gen.
If you put in the launch version of recore it will automatically upgrade it to the definitive edition when it installs
@@CG-rz2tl that’s if you are connected to the internet
Been thinking this same thing for a little while now and happy to see someone else is having the same ideas
I just bought an Xbox One S yesterday as I finally found one at a really good price. I'm excited to start collecting for it, but to be honest I mainly got it as a backwards compatible machine as I've never had any xbox console, and there is only about 10 xbox one games I'd ever be interested in
How good of a price? Should have just gotten a XSX, I've seen them for as low as $180 used.
Got it for £65 and it came with a few games. I think thats roughly like $85. I might upgrade to a Series X when they get cheaper, as at least here in the UK they are still around $300.
Pete can you do a video like this on GameCube collecting? These videos really help me out when collecting!
That ship has sailed my friend
(Even when they are brand new and just released)
I don't know what the future brings, Xbox is kind of dead right now in Europe.
Cant you play Xbox games on PC too through Gamepass? Giving you more options to play with higher graphic fidelity
I remember I wanted to get physical games at the start of the One generation, but the disc drive on my Xbox went bad so I transitioned to that collection being digital instead, and I'd collect for the other consoles out at that time.
That being said, I don't think I missed out on much this time around. There's some good collectors editions in the library (Halo 5 imo), but not enough that you can ONLY get on Xbox.
id never collect for a system that needs an internet connection to setup, may aswell collect the nintendo switch empty game code boxes
Pete dorr is right just like he was with the 360
I agree, time for a room tour Pete !
I think for those who want to build a solid, large, collection on the cheap it’s perfect!
In my opinion, keep your eye out for any definitive edition versions. Those will be the best to have.
DVDs are way more mainstream than Xbox games not really very comparable
I think you're killing it with these recent uploads. By that I mean we need moar PeteDorr on RUclips. Keep 'em coming!
Xbox one collecting is going to be like the OG Xbox collecting cheaper on Xbox instead of PlayStation
Thanks!
I love my Series X for the backwards
Farcry 2, Metal Gear Rising!
My sealed Xbox one Minecraft is toooootally going to be worth twenty bucks when the kids turn 25 in about ten years.. Calling it.. :)
Hi Pete! Im thinking of starting to collect for different systems, but something that pushes me back is not knowing which games have a physical release. Do you have a website or a place to guide yourself on which game has a physical release?
I got Gollum on the PS5 but I saw it on XBOX for £6.99 on Amazon so I said why not, I always thought it's a hidden gem in the making:-))
I just started collecting for the XONE simply because I know no one else will be and the games will be cheaper.
My physical Xbox one collection is quickly becoming one of my largest. I must have 300 discs by now 🤷🏻♂️
I'd guess the games that are delisted from Gamepass due to copyright, etc will spike up in price. E.g. Horizon 3 and 4 are pretty pricey in terms of Xbox One games
this is the last console gen I am buying physical games for, there is no point they cant even fit the entire game on disc nowadays
Seems like stalker 2 might be the last physical and who knows if it’s even on disk. I only use my series x for “boosted” 360 games at this point.
I bought the Xbox one on release. One of the worst decisions I’d made for sometime.
Xbox One will be the least collectible platform ever. The "Grails" will be $50 games. $5 will be a typical game in a future where $5 is a cheeseburger at McDonald's.
Basically like the DVD analogy
Okay but if you're actually PLAYING games that's amazing.
@@EliMeadAZ yes, I would consider Xbone to be among the highest of price:gameplay ratios. Probably ranks #1 for that, the longer I think about it.
@@Patrick-tw7nramazing spider man 2 is pretty expensive as well
I collect for xbox due to the prices as you mentioned.
I like collecting for Xbox. The games are cheaper and you sometimes get the best version on Series X. I don't care about Game Pass
i have an Xbox One mostly as a backwards compatibility machine, but I have noticed that on average, an XB1 game is cheaper than the PS4 version of the same game. So I have a decent Xbox One collection right now.
There are a lot of sales I see where it’s buy 2 get 1 free for brand new games, but usually the Switch is excluded and the PS5 version isn’t available…
But sure enough, there’s the Xbox version sitting there (often even cheaper).
Ayyye Petedorr’s back!
I wish Xbox had more physical games because Xbox in general seems to be more consumer friendly than PlayStation, though I main PS
arent “series x” physicals largely just a download key at this point? halo infinite has almost nothing on the disc iirc
I sold my entire Xbox collection in December of last year. To this day I have no regrets.
Pete don't tell any more people how cheap and fun it is to collect for xbox.
I bought the Forza Horizon games because they are getting delisted. Weird thing is I can't play them offline.
People don't care now. But they eventually will. It's been seen over and over again with everything.
My daughter has pretty much taken over my PS5 so I have been playing on Series X. I buy all physical and play a lot of RPGs. I have been really enjoying it. Collecting old titles is affordable. Remote play is awesome. But I feel like the odd man out for sure.
I only buy physical games, I want to be able to always play and own them. Usually I get decent deals.

So dont throw them away and tryh to get them fre if u can
You talking about Xbox One or Xbox Series, because there is a difference...
There’s nothing to collect for when the console itself requires internet just to use it after a factory reset or new out of the box.
I thought Xbox One games are essentially a key to access the game? I prob am wrong or miss informed. Love the video @petedorr.
It's so cheap and fun to collect for at the moment ❤
I've got 10 times more Xbox One games than I do on PS4. Xbox has always been the console I get multiplatform games on. Having very few games that are super expensive for people to buy and play is always a good thing.
Xbox One games for years were worse than their PS4 counterparts. It wasn't until Xbox One X came out that the Xbox versions would surpass the PS4 Pro.
